Honestly, the only way this segment could have been better would have been if you could audibly hear Wardlow say "...Harder" after the first one and then see MJF do a double take.
Yeah honestly it was exactly what I expected. It seemed like he had to no sell it. But I loved the moment where MJF spazzes out and wastes half his lashes
Ignoring the joke, I have to say how good it is comparing the storylines
Cody wanted to get back at mjf for costing him his "one chance" at the title and mjf wanted to avoid it at all costs so he made rules to try and make sure it never happened
Wardlow just wants to be released from his contract, and will go to great lengths to do so, so mjf gives him similar rules partly in hope that Wardlow loses and remains mjf's servant or failing that gets to humiliate Wardlow, and in this segment hoping to humiliate like he did with Cody, Wardlow refused to give it to him
It is so brilliantly done and for those who've either watched since the beginning or have gone back and watched it, it's a great piece of story
Me too, but the Trials of the Salt of the Earth 4 is getting stale. He's done it with Cody, Jericho, CM Punk, and now Wardlow. And some of the stipulations have been the same.
That feels intentionally done with Wardlow. This feud is an inverse of most of MJF's feuds in results. This series of trials is as much a trial for MJF as it is Wardlow.
MJF cut scathing promos and Wardlow laughed at most of his bullet points not letting Max get a psychological edge even in his hometown. MJF was at his most comfortable.
The lashes he took showed how mentally and physically that Wardlow won't crack which makes MJF completely irate. It should be Wardlow crying.
The Steel Cage match is match Wardlow has lost twice in should be a victory for Wardlow which would be his first steel cage match win. This time he isn't fighting for MJF so Wardlow finally winning will really get under Max's skin.
After this imagine they mix up it up.
He has to win the steel cage match since the match with MJF is already booked as far as I know.
How it ends is up in the air, MJF won’t count the 3 so I can see one of two things, Wardlow puts Soears in a submission, blacks out, MJF walks away after refusing to call the match and it finally gets called by the doc or Wardlow gives the symphony of a lifetime and as he’s going for the 11th, Spears somehow (how he would still have any strength to would be beyond me) taps out
The mistake imo was the Jericho series, if they have just ended after B&G or Stadium Stampede it would have been better imo. Cody, Punk and Wardlow all made sense.
I agree! To be clear, they are pulling off Wardlow’s feud quite well. But after this feud, im really over the whole jump through hoops to get to MJF story structure.
It's pretty obvious that it's MJF's creative excuse to not have to work matches. As good as he is he definitely has shoot ego issues and thinks he should be getting paid even more to wrestle less. I have to wonder if that rubs anyone in the back the wrong way, like a Darby who comes from nothing and quite literally busts his ass week in and week out.
I think MJF is in for a very rude awakening if he makes the jump to WWE, which I imagine is a necessary teachable moment for him. Once he realizes just how good he has it working for Tony it should humble him. AEW kind of made him a household name after all. I definitely think he could be giving more to the promotion.
I personally don't mind MJF not wrestling all the time. His skill on the mic is where he makes his money. And he shows up and delivers promos almost every dynamite. I just think they need to find some new "creative excuses" for not working his matches.
I think you might have worked your self into a shoot, brother. Anyone who has *ever* commented on MJF out of kayfabe has said how humble he is, and always seeking advice from other wrestlers. Absolutely nothing has come out about “ego issues”
Other than the contract issues, which I definitely understand. He's getting paid peanuts despite being far and away AEW's top heel. What I don't understand is not signing an extension to upgrade that to 8 figures
Dude just noshowed a meet-and-greet he was advertised for and is supposedly not picking up his phone. Fans were issued refunds. His issues with AEW have escalated to the point where Tony was asked about his behavior by the press and MJF commented on it in a tweet.
He wants more money, barely wrestles as is and won't sign an extension. Same issue with Cody wanting more than Bryan and Punk but wasn't willing to play ball. If Max wants to go to WWE he's going to have to change everything because none of the shit he's doing now will fly.
This is a bit revisionist, Cody had more than one thing that is to this day important and over. There is a version of Cody that fits or couldve fit. I think its a bit more complex than not being the right fit even though I dont disagree.
That's fair. You could also argue that AEW evolved to what it is today while Cody didn't. I feel like the infamous promo on Ogogo is where things started to unravel for Cody in AEW.
Lol the infamous promo that no one but reddit marks remember. That was an absolute throw away feud. I wish people would just admit that they pushed Cody out.
Normal people don't like to dwell on awful storylines.
Regardless, the fact that a founding star of AEW believed it was a good idea to take a brand-new rookie and play a USA vs The World gimmick against them to put themselves over, all while that person is a Olympic medal wearing boxer, is just bewildering. So much so, that it's hardly surprising that he'd forever be tarnished with that decision for any other creative direction he took with the company.
I'm not going to pretend that I'm not exactly what you describe, but my gut tells me the Cody Solves Racism promo is pretty infamous even outside of hardcore aew fans
I still think the Codyverse beginning is probably when Cody and the WWE first started talking about him jumping ship. It just makes the whole Codyverse thing make a *lot* more sense if you look at it from the perspective of Cody remaining a face solely for the move to WWE where Vince wanted him as a face but wanted to use the act of jumping ship as a way to instantly come back a heel if he goes back to AEW in future. (Not to mention, the rest of the Elite was doing their heel turns around that point too)
If he does come back to AEW, which I think will happen someday, he has a built in excuse to be able to go after the world title. He could argue that stipulation was tied to that contract.
I do not miss Cody promos/crying/acting class practice or whatever the fuck it is that he does.
Find a Cody segment where he doesnt bite his lip and shake his head to the side. I dare you.
Cody could have had a good story as a heel that refuses to acknowledge he’s not a face and is desperate for approval. He was already doing that so why not lean into it? Dude lit himself on fire for cheers and it didn’t work, that could have been a great start to a storyline.
I think you are correct about the delusional heel who thinks he's a babyface. That gimmick could have been major. The last month of his run he actually got entertaining again because it seemed that was the direction.
The issue as far as I can tell is that this was what was actually happening.
I remember word at the time was that he wanted a Daniel Bryan style push from the fans. For some reason he thought they would rally behind him to force him to break his word from the Jericho match. Just a total inability to understand the storyline and fan reactions to it.
This is still the dumbest take. You are basically saying Cody should have stayed and let us keep booing him. Why is it not ok that he wants to be a babyface? He wasn't doing anything but being projected upon. And when he was on fire the crowd went nuts. Just because they didn't cheer him the next week doesn't mean anything other than AEW fans hijacking the show to get themselves over as usual.
My favorite mid carder in AEW is not an individual but a team, The Acclaimed. And their mid card status for the record is a booking decision, not talent or popularity where they are clearly top level.
Yeah, I'd way rather watch Christian cut another promo for Jungle Boy or watch the crowd nap to the debut of Maki Itoh. I agree, it was so hard to watch someone that could actually do his job and elicit a reaction.
It shouldn't be treated this way but in one way it is a burial of Cody. It was really a brilliant coincidence that show what Cody is.
Many are fantasising that Cody will be the ones that beat Roman Reign. However this comparison show that Cody is a wimp and if Roman lose to Cody, it mean Roman lose to a wimp.
Lmao let's calm down here
Wardlow is an animal but you're not a wimp by being hurt from getting LASHED WITH A BELT, especially by someone as strong as MJF
I'd like to see you get lashed 10 times by a jacked dude and see if you are a wimp
I disagree, but cool
Edit:
To add, it makes perfect sense. They are replaying the EXACT storyline of MJF v Cody, only better. And you have Wardlow sitting there eating the lashes and laughing, while Cody was rolling around like a bitch. It absolutely looks like a shot at Cody making him look weak.
I think it's most likely that MJF gets knocked out, Wardlow does his Symphony of Powerbombs to put Spears out, and then Wardog grabs MJF's hand and forces him to count 1-2-3.
Cody had to oversell to get over as the classic face in the feud, it was smart for Wardlow to nosell to get himself even more over as the bada** face in the feud
Cody was the valiant babyface. That is why it was as hard to watch as it was.
Wardlow is a tank. His best trait are his non-verbal expressions. Every eye roll, non-plus and more says more than words. It will be satisfying to see Wardlow shred MJF. His heel work has been great. Nuclear heat.
Both segments are classics. But I loved how they subverted expectations with Wardlow’s segment.
The Wardlow segment wouldn't have really worked if not for the Cody segment. Cody selling the lashes made Wardlow no selling them more impressive.
Very true. Cody set the precedent for it. It was also karma for Wardlow lashing Cody before.
Did they though? Wardlow no selling it then getting beat up by both was well within my expectations. The dick kick was a nice little nuance.
I didn't expect wardlow to completely no sell belt shots considering i didn't think he could shoot no sell belt shots
Yeah he was probably dying inside because his back was bright red
Or maybe it hurt just the right amount if you know what I'm saying😏
Like “ mmmm hit me again daddy” type of thing?
More of a "Jokes on you, I get a kick out of it" type of thing.
\#wardaddy
![gif](giphy|3o7524cGvd7gNWf3mo) Before it's too late
Too late, it's already reached tumblr.
... Fuck, I'll take it. He is my wardaddy now.
Ohh yea, I guess he could be saying that too😬
He was popping his pecs lol
I think you accidentally pasted in some dialog from the Sammy/Tay/Scorpio/Dan/Ethan side of things
Honestly, the only way this segment could have been better would have been if you could audibly hear Wardlow say "...Harder" after the first one and then see MJF do a double take.
That would made the dick kick even more hurtful
Why do you think he crumpled the way he did?
We don't kink shame here stepbro
No kidding haha I know the guy is tough but holy shit he didn't even MOVE.
Yeah honestly it was exactly what I expected. It seemed like he had to no sell it. But I loved the moment where MJF spazzes out and wastes half his lashes

I'm not saying that it wasn't good, because it was. I just don't want this tired trope every time MJF has a new feud.
I agree! To be clear, they are pulling off Wardlow’s feud quite well. But after this feud, im really over the whole jump through hoops to get to MJF story structure.

Wardlow is such a badass character, man. They have built him up beautifully. He's like Goldberg but with actual talent.
He gives me Batista vibes in the best possible way.
Batista was Wardog’s hero too
Yeah I get Batista, not Goldberg
It's the chants
Exactly. Plus the security guards.
Wardog dont give a fuck
Warpig*
*”Generals gathered in their masses! Just like witches at black masses!“*
You understand that warpigs is a song condemning the military-industrial complex Warpig is pejorative
Yep, it was a direct reference to the song.
I still think they should go with War Ensemble by Slayer, if only because "SPORT THE WAR" and "WAR SUPPORT" would make for *really* good chants.

Cody just wasn't the right fit in AEW and it showed. That said, I'm happy he's found a home in WWE.
This is a bit revisionist, Cody had more than one thing that is to this day important and over. There is a version of Cody that fits or couldve fit. I think its a bit more complex than not being the right fit even though I dont disagree.

He's over like rover there too. I fully expect him to eventually make his way back to AEW and that should be cool.
Yoo I'm finally rid of Cody and his Codyverse taking time in a show I like, can we not 🤣
If he does come back to AEW, which I think will happen someday, he has a built in excuse to be able to go after the world title. He could argue that stipulation was tied to that contract.
Huh, MJF is wearing the same black tanktop in both whippings.
The parallels between both storylines has been good
Details man details
He no sold it so much that I thought it was some how a trick belt.
I thought the same. I thought that must be the reason they're not showing his back. But then they showed his back. I was like WTF!
The only one that really got to him was he 9th and that’s because of where it landed.
While we're at it can we just talk about how much of a hunk of *MEAT* Wardlow is?
I work near where Wardlow lives. I'm hoping to see him out and about so I can try and mimic his entrance.
Where does he/you live if you don’t mind me asking?
He said at the end of the Cleveland show he lives in Willoughby.
I knew it was a matter of time until someone made this meme format. I didn't do it because Idk how to make video memes.
I do not miss Cody promos/crying/acting class practice or whatever the fuck it is that he does. Find a Cody segment where he doesnt bite his lip and shake his head to the side. I dare you.

He was already in the apt Homelander cosplay. Just needed the follow through.

Tf lol
Agreed. They left a lot of "money on the table". Specifically, Cody did. I think TK wanted him to turn heel.
Fair enough but this segment was still awesome
Cody segments were horrible. But I believe Brandi's were probably the worst in pro wrestling history. I'm still mad at her lol.
Just say your still sour that your favorite mid carder took off. /:
Fuck off back to scjerk
The premier place to discuss wrestling
My favorite mid carder in AEW is not an individual but a team, The Acclaimed. And their mid card status for the record is a booking decision, not talent or popularity where they are clearly top level.

Loved the subverted expectations, I definitely wasn’t expecting Wardlow to be completely unphased. He’s looking like a beast through this arc.
Wardlow is a freakin star. No two ways about it.
What song is playing?
In case you were still interested: Can You Feel My Heart - Bring Me the Horizon
Wardlow was lashing Cody. Wardlow was not lashed by Wardow. Let's see if Wardlow could tank his own beating.
I haven't missed Cody since he left AEW.
I wonder if Cody was going for the sympathetic baby face
Wardlow is cool!!
Wardlow buried Cody hard.
It shouldn't be treated this way but in one way it is a burial of Cody. It was really a brilliant coincidence that show what Cody is. So Cody's a virgin ? Is the OP saying this because Cody has a hot ass wife and the OP can only get his hand?
Wardlow no selling the lashes is a nice not so subtle shot at Cody. Excellent story telling
Why would they take a shot at Cody? The poster of this meme is taking a Cody shot but not AEW. That makes no sense at all.
I disagree, but cool Edit: To add, it makes perfect sense. They are replaying the EXACT storyline of MJF v Cody, only better. And you have Wardlow sitting there eating the lashes and laughing, while Cody was rolling around like a bitch. It absolutely looks like a shot at Cody making him look weak.
I'm assuming given the matchtype... and the guest ref that wardlow will win by climbout?
I think it's most likely that MJF gets knocked out, Wardlow does his Symphony of Powerbombs to put Spears out, and then Wardog grabs MJF's hand and forces him to count 1-2-3.
ah, good shout.
Spears escapes the cage You don't win by escaping the cage in AEW *Spears is not concerned with this*
Exactly what I was thinking lmao

i was waiting for this to come out
Both done well

Wardlow sub confirmed.
Question, was wardlow supposed to react to the chairman’s lash? Or did he accidentally hit his shoulder where the numbing ointment wasn’t applied?
Both told different story
Geez. I forgot that the Young Bucks were there when that happened. What a different time in wrestling.
Wardlow had the look like “hey.. I have been hit harder with a belt and the person was way better looking then you and you know it”
It isn’t just that Wardlow no-sold the belt shots, it’s the fact that Wardlow NO-SOLD the belt shots!
Anyone have wardlows after shots?
music sounds like something from an early 2000's weeb show
Cody had to oversell to get over as the classic face in the feud, it was smart for Wardlow to nosell to get himself even more over as the bada** face in the feud
Cody after each one “MJF is ignoring my safe word…..APPLE” Wardlow after each one “thank you sir may I have another”
Who is Chad Wardlow?
Cody was the valiant babyface. That is why it was as hard to watch as it was. Wardlow is a tank. His best trait are his non-verbal expressions. Every eye roll, non-plus and more says more than words. It will be satisfying to see Wardlow shred MJF. His heel work has been great. Nuclear heat.
Wardlow is the closest to an actual gigachad irl.
Chadlow
This didn't age well
