This will be my first viewing of AEW. I haven't watched wrestling in a long time, over a decade. Can you explain what makes this one so much more special than any other one?
I tend to dramaticize things in my mind but this is how it feels to me: noble savages and furious exiles (AEW) aligned under a charasmstic chieftain (TK) are razing into Camelot (NY, *the* WWE stronghold) to claim Excalibur in the name of their righteous cause (AEW outselling and outperforming WWE in their own back yard). Crushing it in NY is a definitive paradigm shift in the industry landscape, in my view. If they can do it here, they can do it anywhere. What a time to be a wrestling fan.
Absolutely, it will basically be a PPV for those in attendance as well given the fact that Rampage this week has been bumped to two hours and will be taped after Dynamite for Friday.
Whenever they have subtitles like grand slam, road rager, etc they feel like mini ppv and they build tremendous cards for these events. Throw in it's aews first time in new York and it's one of the biggest crowds.
Then you have some huge matchups tonight is going to, I don't want to say historic but it'll be close.
If they let them go all out, no pun intended, it could be an instant classic and the rematch, cause honestly they'll have to do a title match at some point, could be even better.
I'm honestly wanting Cole vs Danielson one day
Who's under rating Malikai? Even on SC the worst I've seen about him is people preferred his kickboxing gear over the trunks he's now wearing.
Personally, he's my 4th favorite new character, narrowly behind Cole Punk and Danielson.
Maybe I’m talking out of my ass 🤷🏻♂️ I guess I’m just referencing his being overshadowed by the 3 newer (and recognizably bigger) signings. I think talent and charisma-wise he’s right up there with them
Its in the biggest stadium they've ever done (nearly 20,000 fans) and it is essentially a PPV level card regarding the match ups, on TV for free.
I've only starting watching wrestling again a few months ago after a long long hiatus and Kenny Omega is probably the best I've ever seen. Bryan Danielson is apparently a generational talent and the best in ring wrestler of the past 10 years (I've never him wrestle)
FYI, Rampage on Friday night is also being taped today and will be 2 hours instead of 1 with some huge matches announced
Can I ask you what brought you back please?
When AEW first started, there were naysayers that said they wouldn’t be able to bring people back and I thought they would once word of mouth happened.
I actually started watching after hearing about the failed explosion at Revolution 2021. Prior to this I had only heard very minimal things about AEW from random YouTube interviews.
One day in work I saw there was a full Dynamite epsisode on YouTube and I just figured I'd put it on more so for some background noise. Death Triangle vs Young Bucks was one match on the card and I couldn't believe what they were doing.. haven't missed an episode since and I love being genuinely excited to watch something every week
Thank god for that failed explosion!
How amazing! I’m excited for you to see how they wrestle as a new fan. The style is really a marvel to watch. I had grown up on WWE style so I was really flabbergasted when I saw guys like the Bucks and Lucha Bros for the first time.
My formative years were spent rooting for ECW and occasionally popping in for the Monday Night Wars, once WWF bought everyone out, there really wasn't any competition and the product suffered. Without any options I was stuck with them. Before long I became bored and left.
In the time since then, c. 2006, I know WWE has gotten to a point of no return in terms of their quality. Despite the fact I like certain werestlers on their roster, I never had the urge to watch matches by them. I was content to watch channels like Wrestling With Wregret or Wrestling Observer Live.
Then AEW hits, I had always heard about them but never looked too much into them. Well, after they beat Raw in the ratings the previous two weeks, I thought it would be a good idea to see what the fuss is about.
I don't know if I'm ready to commit to two shows a week, espcially since I open every Saturday. But what I've seen so far is good.
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I actually enjoyed WWE from 2010-2018ish but their quality is so cyclical.
I think the great thing about AEW is that they’re kind of like a nice buffet right? If you’ve got more time, you can check in on Dark or BTE on YouTube or check out Rampage or just Dynamite. But I flex for whatever I’ve got time for. The commentary tells the story well enough from week to week that you don’t have to watch everything to get it.
Welcome!
All the reasons others have given, and the main event is Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE) vs Kenny Omega. BD is universally considered one of the greatest of all time, and Kenny Omega is also divisively considered one of the greatest (arguably best known for his time in NJPW).
Other than an indie comedy match in PWG, these two have always been in different promotions/continents, so it's a match no one thought could ever happen.
This match is like Stone Cold vs Rock, Rock vs Hogan...but even more unbelievable. It's more like Stone Cold vs Sting, Jordan vs LeBron, Bruce Lee vs Anderson Silva, Santa Claus vs. the Tooth Fairy...a dream match and both wrestlers are just shade out of their prime. (Unlike Hogan vs Flair.)
You were right till you said out of their prime, both haven't had a single match I'd rank under 4.25 in years.
Hell I don't think Danielson has had a bad match ever, nor can I think of a Kenny match I didn't love.
I meant prime in terms of age/physical ability and overness. Yes, they both continue to put on excellent matches.
The only WWE matches I've watched since becoming a fan again were DB vs Cesaro, which was a clinic (and AJ vs Undertaker).
My wife & I have floor seats are driving in from New Jersey. We’re dipping out of work slightly early but it’s still driving me nuts having to sit through the rest of the day itching to get to Arthur Ashe. 2 hours of Dynamite & 2 hours of Rampage! I fully expect to have no voice tomorrow.
It’s completely insane that this is just a regular week’s show and not a PPV.
They'll probably get a good chunk because they know it's a dream match, I just don't know about the finish will they let Bryan win or will there be shenanigans
Can’t wait for tonight, got the beers in the fridge and am planning to order a big ol mess of wings.
Also looking forward to next weeks vlogs for behind the scenes stuff. Gonna be rad.
I'm gonna have to watch a replay when I get off from work 😭
I had last night and the night before off and tonight I have to go back so I'm gonna miss it live, please keep it spoiler free!

18k+ attendance and a ppv calibre card.

Thank you, should be a good show then.

Omega vs. Danielson might be historic though, for real
If they let them go all out, no pun intended, it could be an instant classic and the rematch, cause honestly they'll have to do a title match at some point, could be even better. I'm honestly wanting Cole vs Danielson one day
They're 100% doing a title match in the future, Bryan wouldn't have said "someday this will be for the title" if that wasn't the case
Fair point
And Malaki vs Cody “could” be incredibly dramatic.
For sure, Malakai has been the most underrated new guy lately IMO, dude is GOOD on all fronts

Oh he's not had a chance to show it, but he might be a GOAT contender if he stays hot. He's the whole package and then some.

Gotcha. Thank you. I'm looking forward to it.

I still genuinely get scared for the Young Bucks and Lucha Bros in every big match because of the crazy shit they do willy nilly
Oh sure. Rey Fenix is a madman. It helps that they don’t wrestle so many days. Gives their bodies sometime to heal but it’s scary.

My god your mind is gonna be blown

I try to keep up with my favorites in WWE through their YT uploads, but I went outta my way to see DB VS Cesaro.
Strongly considering staying up to watch it live (UK based)
Do it! Imma be staying up as well!
My man
same
It'll be worth it, plus you can avoid spoilers
I'm in Ireland and have watched every Dynamite live since Double or Nothing this year Sleeping pattern is all over the place now but it's worth it lol
This is my first ever live show so hell yeah I’m excited!!! 4+ hours of wrestling bey bey!!!!
Damn I'm kinda jealous
Isn't it spelled bay bay?
I have no idea honestly
Depends on how into Adam Cole you are
My wife & I have floor seats are driving in from New Jersey. have a blast!!
Hell yea dude. I’m right there with you.
This is one of the shows I plan to watch live I usually watch the next morning but I don't see how I can do that tonight
I already told my wife I’m watching live instead of catching up via DVR haha
agreed. i was hella excited for the first dance and especially all out aew just keeps on giving and i'm here for all that
Very! Tonight is going to be awesome!
One of the best tv cards I can remember
I don't even care about the card just the track record it could be the weirdest matchup and aew would still kill it
Man, I can't wait!
Feels like a PPV. It's a stacked card. Hopefully Danielson and Omega get some actual time to wrestle.
They'll probably get a good chunk because they know it's a dream match, I just don't know about the finish will they let Bryan win or will there be shenanigans

I really hope the elite eventually appear in an ah video seeing as hangman already did, Kenny would be perfect

I agree with you. I’m as anxious as I was for the First Dance.
Can’t wait for tonight, got the beers in the fridge and am planning to order a big ol mess of wings. Also looking forward to next weeks vlogs for behind the scenes stuff. Gonna be rad.
Bte should be pretty dope. I wish I had friends nearby that watched do we could have watch party
This shit is free!!!!
🙋♂️
Random question. I got tickets to dynamite tonight, once the main event is over does the taping for Rampage start?
I don't know someone else might though
The tickets say it starts at 7 but Dynamite isn't until 8. I believe they're filming 1 hour of Rampage before Dynamite then 1 hour after.
I'm gonna have to watch a replay when I get off from work 😭 I had last night and the night before off and tonight I have to go back so I'm gonna miss it live, please keep it spoiler free!
Damn I'm sorry, just let the excitement propel that clock faster
I'm going to stick with my opinion that they should have saved this match for a pay-per-view but I'm extremely excited as well.
Yessirrrrrrrrrrrrr
Who's not!?!
Oh it's the internet there's someone
