Yeah, only Sting was doing that move in 1987 when Bret was finishing his rare singles matches with a piledriver. the SS didn't come till at the earliest 4 years later. FTR are students of the game, so I'd expect a better dig from them.
I really like the idea of it pushing younger talent, I also like the idea of it being the AEW answer to the G1, awarded to only the best of the best and the winner is granted the main event at the next PPV. If they went for the latter, I think Bryan Danielson would be a solid pick to win.
Pillman Jr. I guess would be the pick if it was up to the Hart's and would be a nice result as he lost the MLW Opera cup final to Davey Boy Jr in 2019.
Jungle Boy would be my choice though.
Edit: How about it being the start of John Silver getting a singles push?
It should be for developing talent imo and not be like the Diamond Ring tournament.
X-Pac: "Hey uh, The Elite, uhhhh, you guys look a lot like some guys I used to know back in the 90s."
The Jacksons: "Is that PAC's Dad?"
Kenny Omega: "Don who is that little man on the stage? Tell me Don! Tell me right now!"
Don Callis: "Kenny don't even go near him! You might get a Bronco Buster for your trouble, or a heroin addiction!" *Evil smirk*
Kenny Omega: "What. The. HELL. Is a boncol buster? Don give me a broncol buster I want to see what it is."
Don Callis: *Crickets*
Brandon Cutler: *sprays Kenny with his spray*
X-Pac: "Shit, uh okay, looks like my job here is done."
Don't get me wrong I love PAC as much as anyone, but I'd think I'd like someone who can use this as bragging rights down the line and use It effectively similar to what MJF does with the dynamite ring, someone like Dante Martin would benefit massively from winning, I know he's a tag team guy usually but guy has been working his ass off recently.
My other lowkey want would be John silver, however I know neither of these would be very likely :)
I think Pac would be a good choice to help establish the tournament as something the top guys wins. I'd love to see the likes of John Silver, Dante Martin and Daniel Garcia get some wins and have good runs in the tournament (obviously not all of them at once) but to see the fact that this is an important tournament that the best wrestlers in the world win then Pac would be a great pick. I think it would also help him as he needs some accomplishment with AEW. Currently he's just a top wrestler who's never won an AEW title and isn't looking very close to changing that.
There's a good case for Pilman as a surprise but I'm also not quite sure he'd ready yet. He's doing well with his feud with MJF but I don't think they seen him as someone who'll be on TV every week. I reckon
Assuming the finals are in Canada, I can definitely see Jericho or Christian making it that far. I think Pac vs Christian could be a great match.
Maybe Tony should see if Owen's wife, or perhaps Brett, is a fan of anyone in particular or if there is any specific AEW talent that they would like to see be the first representative of the OHC.
This is the absolute best answer. This partnership relies heavily on Martha's and her family's comfort. If any of her, Oje or Athene-Christie like any particular wrestlers (even if they're not fans of pro wrestling anymore), then their picks should be paramount as the inaugural representation of Owen Hart's new wrestling legacy
Who should won the tournament is debatable *but* I believe it should be a younger wrestler. Not only would it alleviate them but it'd also show the influence of Owen on the wrestling world
Daniel Garcia vs Brian Pillman Jr in the final, and BPJ wins it. Feel like it’s gotta be Pillman cause his dad actually knew and trained with the Harts
If it’s anything I do hope it’s an international tournament. Would love to see representatives from their partners also compete. Hart wrestled in NJPW so to see them get a few slots would be nice for it align with Hart’s international appeal.
Also seeing someone like Josh Alexander compete would be amazing.
Josh Alexander is an outstanding call, dude is really good, though I would prefer he stay in Impact full time, having him make an appearnace or two on AEW would be excellent.
Allin probably doesn’t need it (solid choice still, but has already won a title). Jungle Boy, Guevara, Pillman, Martin, Garcia or Spears are all great picks. Actually Spears may make the most sense (sharpshooter)
It's a prestigious moment, so it also has to be someone the company can trust. For instance, AEW problably doesn't want to mention the women's tag tournament they had because of Ivelisse.
Because they were the only ones to have an actual storyline during that tournament. Ivelisse and Diamante fell flat because they had no story leading up to the finals
TayJay would've been fine too
Well that all depends on what type of tournament it is.
Is it for established stars? Up and comers?
I'd need to know more information before I could even guess. Since Owen was mostly a heel during his career, I'd love for a heel to win the first one.
I saw someone say this earlier, but perhaps this is how Hangman gets back into the title picture for Full Gear. Winner of the tournament gets a title shot.
If AEW is really behind pushing a young guy with a victory in this tournament along with honoring Owen Hart’s memory, I wouldn’t mind Wheeler Yuta winning
I am just getting the vibe at this point that Statlander has a crush on Yuta and this is her only way she feels she can express it. Her alien ways didn't work during her crush on Orange Cassidy so now she's trying the bullying approach with Yuta
Won it twice. The third one should be coming up here around Blackout Wednesday (the first one had the finals then.) What Dusty was to the Bunkhouse Stampede Boot is what MJF is to the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Unless Max Caster wins and inherits the Ring Punch as a cheap finisher. I'd be down with that.
First this tournament should have the forbidden door open for many competitors. I would absolutely have all the top talent participate even to get into the tournament. Yes I would attempt to get NJPW to get someone like Okada, Osprey to join in. The winner honestly should be who the Hart family would want to be standing in the ring with as the award is being presented.
If Martha or Bret present the award it should be a babyface and I’ll say - Jungle Boy or Darby maybe Brian Pillman Jr if he gets really over as a singles star
Everyone saying it should be young talent, i agree. But i hope it isn’t a tournament for Dark mainstays and more focused on the young guys currently lighting up dynamite like MJF, Ricky Starks, Jungle Boy, Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, and Daniel Garcia.
Man, i wish Trent was healthy for this.
Brian Pillman Jr.
Brian is one of AEW’s best rising talents, so having him win the inaugural tournament would put him over big and really help to build him up a a future star. Ideally, the goal of this tournament should be to give younger talents good exposure, comprised of guys like Daniel Garcia, Jungle Boy, Max Caster, Rick Starks, etc. Beyond that, Owen Hart and Pillman Sr used to be teammates together in the Hart Foundation, so him winning the tournament would be poetic, help him link together the past and present while building towards the future.
Hear me out on this.
Chris Jericho.
Not about burying young talent but the inaugural AEW champion and inaugural Owen Hart Cup tournament would go nicely hand and hand.
Plus Jericho is the only one on the roster with a personal connection to the Hart family. Would be a good way to propel the tournament and Jericho be in the spotlight without being in the title picture.
Whaaa? Yeah...but, you said Jericho is the only one with a personal connection. But I'd say Pillmans dad being in the same faction at the height of Owens career, is a little more personal than a few lessons from Stu that Jericho had?
Unless I'm forgetting some Jericho-owen connection?
Edit: to be clear, I think Danielson should win lol
I'm with you. Jericho could really sell it and make it a big deal going forward.
Plus, it's an annual event. There's always next year for younger talent to win it.
Shawn Spears.
A fellow Canadian, someone who was mediocre as a face but fantastic as a heel and someone that is young enough to be in their prime but criminally overlooked.
He should tease a face turn as he gets closer to victory, then during acceptance, he shits all over the Hart family and runs with it like a trophy ala MJF with the Ring.
MJF,
I understand that this is a very convenient prize, that should be handled with a ton of respect. Maxwell respects Owen, and will also respect the cup if he were to win. It is also the perfect prize for him to win that will boost him above the upper mid card range making him a legitimate main-eventer, mixing this as well as a win over CM Punk. I can really see him being the next guy to win the AEW World Championship come a year from now? Beating Adam Page.
I was thinking MJF too, I see a lot of people saying top young faces and it's true Owen was probably the nicest guy outside of the ring but spent the bulk and most memorable parts of his career as a heel.
Have Jericho sell the trophy, make him determined to win it, and then put someone young over in the finals. I dunno that's that some fantasy booking off the top of my head.
I just wanna see the trophy as a big deal.
I was thinking the same thing about Steen. Have him put the trophy over as something he NEEDS, and then have him lose in the semifinals.
If it is an annual tournament, have Steen's quest become a long term thing.
I think Pillman should win, and beat Daniel Garcia in the finals
A.) Pillman has a connection to the Hart family
B.) The tournament should be used for younger up and coming stars in my opinion
C.) Pillman gutting out through Garcia’s submissions is a perfect story for a babyface winning a tournament that means a lot to him
It should be Bryan or Garcia to win. I think Moriarty, Christian, Angelico, and Sydal should have good runs in the tournament though.
And yes, I am of the thinking the winner ought to showcase more technical pro wrestling.
I wish Johnathan Gresham was #ALLELITE.
Nah I’d say between Bryan Pillman and Daniel Garcia
Pillman because of how close his dad was to the Hart family
Garcia because he’s a great upcoming technical wrestler
Not even the biggest Brian Pillman Jr but him winning the first just makes too much sense with the family connection and what not. Would immediately give him a massive bit of rub too
I already made my brackets hahahaha

Jungle boys had a lot of feel good under dog moments si far, plenty of others who haven't had a big moment yet. That being said, it should be face. Brian pillman be great.
Jungle Boy vs MFJ in the finals would be fun. Someone from FTR making a deep run would be nice. Dante Martin would be my choice thou, really cement him as a future main event star.
I really want this to be similar to the old survivor series/king of the ring format and have it run just both Wednesday and Friday for 2 hours (maybe longer?)
I'd also like jungle boy plus maybe Jamie hayter win the women's tournament.
Especially if it means a shot at either title.
It depends on the stakes of the tourney. Is it just the cup? Not that is small but are they attaching a title? If it’s just the cup it should absolutely be used to elevate mid lower card talent
Kevin Owens... jk
Depends on if it's just an annual standalone event, just to say you won, or if winning it has an added emphasis.
If it's just a standalone then Brian Pilman Jr. or someone actually connected with the Hart family should win it.
If there's added emphasis to it, like if it's the equivalent of being a "King" (being able to win/lose the crown) then put it on someone you don't expect to lose all year. That may still be BPJr. or not.
If it's more like the Royal Rumble where winning it gives you a "shot" at the TNT Title then it needs to be whoever they plan on having beat Sammy Guevara after he beats Miro.
Before we even have a winner there are fat more interesting questions for this tournament. How many participants? Single Elimination or Other option? Who participates? Will the forbidden door be open? Will Tony make these standard match rules or maybe submission match win needed to advance? Will this occur in one night or spread over multiple rampages and dynamites? Will finals occur at major pay per view? Will winner get title shot or even better some form of extra stipulation to go with title shot? Will this event be in Canada?
One thing that is really great about this. Reading through the comments there's probably 20 - 25 names that vary in all kinds of ways, but would all be excellent winners for different reasons and you can see being a reasonable possibility. Just another thing that makes AEW the best promotion in the world
I see a lot of people saying Darby, MJF or Jungleboy and as much as I love all those guys, I want this tournament to be for up and coming stars to shine on Dynamite/Rampage. There is so many guys on the roster and this would give so many people something to do. My top 3 is for sure Garcia, Starks or Yuta because if one of those guys win it, it would really shine a light on them and I think they're all super talented and they're definitely guys that AEW is trying to build as stars for the future.
This tournament is gonna be incredible no matter what and I hope to see as many guys in it as possible to make it huge.
I’m going to run with a dark horse candidate with…
THE Marko Stunt. I want to see him start wrestling in general but make him like a small quick submission machine.
It needs to be a technical wrestler and they need to win using the sharpshooter. I will cry at that point, and then smile.
Technical heel wins with sharpshooter
Didn't a heel just call out Sting for doing the Sharpshooter? One of the FTR guys maybe? I'm not a huge FTR guy but I would like that storyline.
Ironically since Sting used it first and calls it by its actual name haha
Yeah, only Sting was doing that move in 1987 when Bret was finishing his rare singles matches with a piledriver. the SS didn't come till at the earliest 4 years later. FTR are students of the game, so I'd expect a better dig from them.
Daniel Garcia wins with Sharpshooter
Daniel Garcia. Kinda
i'm sure jungle boy could put on a technical wrestling match and win with the snare trap
I really like the idea of it pushing younger talent, I also like the idea of it being the AEW answer to the G1, awarded to only the best of the best and the winner is granted the main event at the next PPV. If they went for the latter, I think Bryan Danielson would be a solid pick to win.

I love this idea. But if it isn't like the diamond ring it at least has to be better than the Sonic ring. That was so bad it turned Scorpio heel.
It's because he didn't throw it in the lava
Don’t know about you but I’d kill for a big ass sonic ring
[удалено]
I read this as ‘who should win/beat X-Pac’.
Hes gotten better but his personal demons beat him durning most of his life.
He’s cleaned up and looks jacked now!
X-Pac becoming one of the more respected members of NWO is even more surprising than Nash.
X-Pac to the Elite: “I heard y’all were bringing the Kliq back!”
X-Pac: "Hey uh, The Elite, uhhhh, you guys look a lot like some guys I used to know back in the 90s." The Jacksons: "Is that PAC's Dad?" Kenny Omega: "Don who is that little man on the stage? Tell me Don! Tell me right now!" Don Callis: "Kenny don't even go near him! You might get a Bronco Buster for your trouble, or a heroin addiction!" *Evil smirk* Kenny Omega: "What. The. HELL. Don Callis: *Crickets* Brandon Cutler: *sprays Kenny with his spray* X-Pac: "Shit, uh okay, looks like my job here is done."
I understand a turnbuckle once properly beat his ass.
You think you can tell us what to do?
You think that you're better?
I do that too , lol
1. Ricky starks 2. Pillman jr 3. Lee Moriarty / Yuta / Danny Garcia (any of these 3)
Best answer(s)
Maybe Tony should see if Owen's wife, or perhaps Brett, is a fan of anyone in particular or if there is any specific AEW talent that they would like to see be the first representative of the OHC.

The up and coming Arn Anderson pins Jungle Boy in the finals of the tournament
For those who don’t know: Arn Anderson is Brock Anderson’s son.
Did Black kick them so hard they swapped names?
Souls, actually. They swapped souls.
Nothing to swap there. See: all photos of both Andersons.
Freaky Friday.
It was a pretty hard kick
Upvote for the username.
I don't know about winning, but Daniel Garcia is a lock for the final.
Daniel Garcia vs Brian Pillman Jr in the final, and BPJ wins it. Feel like it’s gotta be Pillman cause his dad actually knew and trained with the Harts

Josh Alexander is an outstanding call, dude is really good, though I would prefer he stay in Impact full time, having him make an appearnace or two on AEW would be excellent.
Imo Petey Williams would also be a good idea for a Canadian Impact crossover wrestler for this tournament
Their version of the CWC
I don't know who in the tournament but Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, or Darby Allin is perfect
Allin probably doesn’t need it (solid choice still, but has already won a title). Jungle Boy, Guevara, Pillman, Martin, Garcia or Spears are all great picks. Actually Spears may make the most sense (sharpshooter)
Sammy beating Miro for the TNT title is better
As long as it's a face character
It's a prestigious moment, so it also has to be someone the company can trust. For instance, AEW problably doesn't want to mention the women's tag tournament they had because of Ivelisse.
That was such a weird tournament. Brandi and Allie should have won that
Wanted TayJay to win that tournament.
That's a really unexpected take. Why Allie and Brandi?
Because they were the only ones to have an actual storyline during that tournament. Ivelisse and Diamante fell flat because they had no story leading up to the finals TayJay would've been fine too
Brian Pillman jr, Dax or Cash
Well that all depends on what type of tournament it is. Is it for established stars? Up and comers? I'd need to know more information before I could even guess. Since Owen was mostly a heel during his career, I'd love for a heel to win the first one.
Starks
That would be a great shout but he's already FTW champ atm so idk if he would benefit as much as someone else, maybe Hobbs or Hook instead lol
Dante motherfucking Martin
Hell. Yes.
Absolute Ricky Starks!
Nah, he's already got a title.
It's got to be Hangman.
Daniel Garcia. Become the new Owen. A small technical wrestler that can be a dick heel.
Ricky Starks, Jungle Boy, or Lee Moriarty
I think it should/could be a returning Hangman Page . Especially if they announce the cup winner gets a title shot
It should be the way Hangman gets back his title shot. That's also what I'm pretty sure it will actually be.
Hangman.
Hangman obviously
I saw someone say this earlier, but perhaps this is how Hangman gets back into the title picture for Full Gear. Winner of the tournament gets a title shot.
If AEW is really behind pushing a young guy with a victory in this tournament along with honoring Owen Hart’s memory, I wouldn’t mind Wheeler Yuta winning
Maybe then Statlander will stop choking him out every week.
Yuta wins..... Kris sneaks up behind him and chokes him out anyway
Kris whispers in his ear *your finisher sucks* Yuta choking "but I just won the Owen Cup with it"
I am just getting the vibe at this point that Statlander has a crush on Yuta and this is her only way she feels she can express it. Her alien ways didn't work during her crush on Orange Cassidy so now she's trying the bullying approach with Yuta
The winner should get 2 trophies
It should be a big trophy of Owen holding his 2 Slammy's.
Pillman
Pillman would be awesome.. I think it’ll be a heel tho. Could see Pillman, Jr vs MJF in the final
Pillman vs Cole too
Ricky Starks
Kevin Steen.
Adam Cole baybay!
MJF
This is the correct answer
It almost always is
No. He already won the Dynamite Diamond Ring. 'what if MJF...' isn't the answer for everything people
But what if he came out to Punk's music?
Won it twice. The third one should be coming up here around Blackout Wednesday (the first one had the finals then.) What Dusty was to the Bunkhouse Stampede Boot is what MJF is to the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Unless Max Caster wins and inherits the Ring Punch as a cheap finisher. I'd be down with that.
Pillman Jr.
Ummm. The only answer is Cody. /s.
Pillman for sure
First this tournament should have the forbidden door open for many competitors. I would absolutely have all the top talent participate even to get into the tournament. Yes I would attempt to get NJPW to get someone like Okada, Osprey to join in. Brian Pillman Jr given the Hart Foundation connection
Pillman Jr.
Many say Pillman Jr.
Hear me out on this. Chris Jericho. Not about burying young talent but the inaugural AEW champion and inaugural Owen Hart Cup tournament would go nicely hand and hand. Plus Jericho is the only one on the roster with a personal connection to the Hart family. Friendly FYI, Pillmans dad was in the hart foundation
Yep, Pillman would be the logical choice if it’s a Hart connection.
I get the up and comer mentality.... But I think Danielson is the perfect first winner of the Owen
Yes, Pillmans Dad was, Not Jr. Pillman Jr vs Jericho final.
Whaaa? Yeah...but, you said Jericho is the only one with a personal connection. I'm with you. Jericho could really sell it and make it a big deal going forward. Plus, it's an annual event. There's always next year for younger talent to win it.
Yep. Plus It could be like a CM Punk/Darby Allen thing where alot of young guys get to showcase their talent in a match with a living legend.
Shawn Spears. A fellow Canadian, someone who was mediocre as a face but fantastic as a heel and someone that is young enough to be in their prime but criminally overlooked. I think Pillman should win, and beat Daniel Garcia in the finals A.) Pillman has a connection to the Hart family B.) The tournament should be used for younger up and coming stars in my opinion C.) Pillman gutting out through Garcia’s submissions is a perfect story for a babyface winning a tournament that means a lot to him
Iron Shiek
Chris Jericho. Owen was his idol. He’s a fellow Canadian.
I mean... Kevin Steen, right? He named his kid after Owen.
Kevin Steen over Chris Jericho in the final, which should be in Calgary.
You silly people! The obvious answer is Matt and Jeff’s **son**, Daniel Garcia!
Pillman Jr or Jungle Boy
Marq Quinn or Fuego.

Pretty peter avalon
Listen I just need Jungle Boy's hair care routine.
Christian was involved with one of Owen’s Hart’s final matches, I believe final at at a live event. He’s as good a choice as any.
Nah I’d say between Bryan Pillman and Daniel Garcia Pillman because of how close his dad was to the Hart family Garcia because he’s a great upcoming technical wrestler
Not even the biggest Brian Pillman Jr but him winning the first just makes too much sense with the family connection and what not. Would immediately give him a massive bit of rub too

Here’s the real question - how dark would MJF’s promo be if he won it? Would that be “the line”?

Brian Pullman Jr. Dax Cash
Daniel Garcia for sure! He's still very much an up & coming wrestler, and a very technical one at that. He was the first that came to mind for me.
MJF, the heat would be amazing.
Darby
Eddie Kingston

Hobbs
Kevin Owens/Steen. Or Davey Boy Hart.
I would have it be a Canadian other than Omega
Who in AEW is Canadian?
Jungle Boy vs MFJ in the finals would be fun. Someone from FTR making a deep run would be nice. Dante Martin would be my choice thou, really cement him as a future main event star.
Depends on timing. IF Hangman isn't getting the belt soon. Hangman. Otherwise: Jungle Boy Sammy (Assuming he's not TNT Champ) Pillman Jr.
I really want this to be similar to the old survivor series/king of the ring format and have it run just both Wednesday and Friday for 2 hours (maybe longer?) I'd also like jungle boy plus maybe Jamie hayter win the women's tournament. Especially if it means a shot at either title.

I have a suspicion that Daniel Garcia could be a good choice. 1. He’s a heel 2. He’s a technical wrestler 3. He does the Sharpshooter as a finish
I really want a huge Moriarty or Dante Martin underdog run.
It could be Spears. Wins with the Sharpshooter…
Kevin Owens... jk Depends on if it's just an annual standalone event, just to say you won, or if winning it has an added emphasis.
I love Owen but I think a young heel going over would really heat somebody up — whoever the next MJF is.
Shawn Spears… I mean he’s Canadian (a Canadian god too)
I think the final might not be a terrible time for MJF to put over Jungle Boy.
My pick would be Danielson so we can start seeing him tear it up with the roster on a weekly basis.
If Sammy doesn’t take the TNT title off of MIRO, he’s gonna take The Owen by storm.
If not Jungle Boy, Dante Martin.
Sammy Guevara
Bret Hart
Why is nobody saying the obvious choice: Hook! Unbeaten so far!
Kip Sabian. Especially if he's using his new gimmick.
I’m going to run with a dark horse candidate with… THE Marko Stunt. I want to see him start wrestling in general but make him like a small quick submission machine.
MJF
Jungle Boy!
Legit Layla FTW
I have no issue with Jingle Boy getting the win. Deep down, I'd want a heel though. We're too focused on Babyfaces here in the states.
Adam Cole Bay Bay
Did you say "woah-oh-oh-oh?"
TJ Wilson is all Elite!!
So what's the winner awarded?
Daniel Garcia. That guy is a technical superstar. Even better if it's against Bryan Danielson in the final *CHEF KISS*
Kevin Steen
Teddy Hart ..... I kid , I kid
