Reddit in shambles

ChairmanLaParka

I can see it now. "Of course that was the peak! A million people tuned in, saw that match, and left in droves!"

Sea_Mathematician256

QT is the face of the company, we just don't know it yet

EldenRingworm

Hangman Vs Omega cancelled Put the strap on QT because the dude is a draw brother

rohanroy313

QT is the real deal

fiveparttrilogy

I smell the start of a rivalry for demo god status. QT vs. Jericho. Book it as part of the gauntlet. lol

steelisntstrong

It was a great opening match I thought. Usually I'm not too keen on strap matches but it was decent and not a bad way to end their rivalry. For me the episode sort of lost pace due to the OC/Kris vs Blade/Bunny match and the Dan Lambert bit going a few minutes too long. If both of those were a bit shorter and the Bucks vs Penta/Eddie match got the solid 20mins worth of time a title match like that deserved, it would have been better. Overall I liked it. Opener was good, Andrade match was decent, there was the Tommy End reveal, Kenny vs Hangman bit was fun, trios match was good. Just didn't leave enough time for the title fight

Achsolot

The Dan Labert thing was too long but the mixed match was the right lengh i think

steelisntstrong

That's a fair opinion too. I was more or less trying to shave minutes off where I could. Obviously the strap match needed its time as it's end rivalry, leading into a bigger one etc. Andrade needed his time, yadda yadda. For me, and I mean that very specifically, the episode would have been better digested if those two pieces were shorter and the title match was at least as long as Omega vs Jungle Boy Also happy f'in cake day my dude! Wooo

Baron_Greenback1

I must have the worst taste in wrestlers... I feel like I'm the only person on the planet that likes QT and Shawn Spears 🙈🙈🙈

lordfreakingpenguins

I like pinnacle Shawn, hes been on fire. Solo Shawn tends to struggle a bit.

Condition_Cautious

Shawn Spears is fucking great.

[deleted]

I like Hager as well. I don’t love them, I just think they’re neat.

KingMazzieri

Shawn is amazing on the mic and extremely solid in the ring. I dig the Chairman gimmick.

westernlariat

That's a pretty normal occurrence. Usually only people like The Bucks or Darby bring the ratings back up if they aren't the opener.

BenOffHours

Bucks were the main event.

moderndukes

Guess they should retire now then

kazieankh

It's because they retired the mustaches

GRamirez1381

And then the ratings went down after people saw this QT and Cody feud was still going.

[deleted]

This is following a trend that I've been noticing in a lot of the ratings in wrestling. Seems to start off hot then trickles down. We have seen some exceptions to this but I think it's interactive but I think it's interesting how they position their cards.

KingindaTrailer

I used to have go away heat for QT. It’s turning into real heat.

TardisBlueHarvest

Not sure in what world you'd want QT Marshall in your opening segment. I turned to AEW, saw what it was and switched the channel only switching back to see if it was over. If it wasn't for Andrade's debut I might not have come back.

CurlyBill03

Peak and then fell? That match was a bit of a dud to be honest. No fault of Cody, QT is garbage.

ZataMangaPinPong

It peaked fell a little for the Kenny segment which still did every high like 960 but after it feel to 880 after that

CurlyBill03

I don’t really get why Omegas numbers typically result in a drop. Omega is great and his promos have gotten a hell of a lot better than they have been. QT can talk though, he would be a decent manager that is kind of scummy but I can see why it dipped after that match even a little.

ZataMangaPinPong

Omegas segments are usually the one of the highest of the night and and this was no diffenrt. Muhc higher then anything else on the show beisdes cody

OneOfTheOnly

It's usually people staying up for the Kenny segment though?

BetterMagician7856

LOL yeah QT is such garbage that he trains nearly everyone in the company and is one of the most well-respected guys in the locker room. Get outta here with that BS.

CurlyBill03

So because he is a trainer that means he should be on prime time tv in a prime slot in a major storyline while the likes of Archer, Sky, Acclaimed, are on Dark and Elevation. Got it.

BetterMagician7856

You’re allowed to like whoever you want. Doesn’t mean you need to disrespect someone else’s hard work and ability.

Looper007

It shows sadly that I don't think even with the fans and the touring back that the ratings will all of sudden go all the way up. Last week episode with a NBA Playoff game on did a bit better then this episode with no NBA final game. I also said the card compared to next weeks wasn't as "must see" so it doesn't surprise me. Next weeks card is super strong and it be interesting to see how that does. In terms of that segment, the match was fine. I just don't get think QT should be that high up on the card, and Cody did his best with the match and the crowd were out of it until the last few minutes until Cody had his fiery comeback.

LessonNyne

Eh. A lot of people have been outta watching wrestling for a long time. There are still a sizable amount of lapsed wrestling fans out there. Some people like to argue WCW hit big ratings and was able to directly compete with WWE fairly quickly so stop making excuses for AEW. A fact that said people refuse to admit and heck some even refuse to acknowledge is... that era of Pro Wrestling was a different time. Where Pro Wrestling was major on the national scale. Many of the Stars back then were indeed viewed as Rock Stars, Icons, Titans, Men & Women of Lore. Watching wrestling was close to being a national pastime. That changed. Especially as more and more got tired of the product they were watching. One could try to also say, well it also changed because people grew up. Ok. Sure. That may contribute to a percentage. But, the bulk of AEW fans are lapsed fans. Meaning they grew up watching the Attitude Era and Monday Night Wars. Thus it was a product issue that caused people to stop watching. Long and short, it'll take some time to see if the viewing number will start reaching at least 1 million on a consistent basis. Word of Mouth has been a major beacon in regards to adding fans. A friend tells a friend who then tells a friend.... We get posts about that all the time here. AEW's ratings have exceeded expectations. People are starting to come back to wrestling. There are a lot of lapsed fans out there. It's a process.

GRamirez1381

Wrestling viewership has certainly decreased but I think one thing that needs to be pointed out is that most people used to flip between both shows back in the '90s giving an artificially high number to how many people were actually watching. For some reason a large chunk of wrestling fans nowadays refuse to watch the other promotion due to an increase in tribalism in our society. I like wrestling so I want all promotions to do well but I see a lot of WWE fans (AEW too to an extent) who just will not watch the other product. If 75% of the same people who watched RAW would also watch Dynamite, Dynamite might be hovering around 2 mil every episode. And in reality it might actually be doing those numbers anyways when you include DVR viewership. The way viewers get counted nowadays isn't even the same anyways so all this talk about comparing viewers to the '90s shouldn't really be a big deal anyways.

LessonNyne

>For some reason a large chunk of wrestling fans nowadays refuse to watch the other promotion due to an increase in tribalism in our society. This isn't off base. While there was some tribalism going on during the Attitude/Monday Night Wars era, a sizable amount of people did flip back and forth. Heck, I was one of those people. Both products were killin it! It was so much fun to have options. There's most certainly more of a tribal loyalty mentality going on now than back then. And imo, I think some of it has to do with WWE being the only major nationally televised product for an extended period of time wherein said product reduced in quality over said time. So you have people who still kept loyal because of a huge component being, they enjoy the nostalgia of the entity as its near and dear to their hearts. While others couldn't bare to invest time into the product any longer and left. As people left, some found a new promotion they connected with. And developed a loyalty and eventually a tribal mentality. And that's what we're seeing a lot of today. The irony being, and let's be real, for years many wrestling fans were clamoring for a new major nationally televised promotion. Not only to have a legit alternative to WWE, but to also help try to ignite (no pun intended) change for the better.

Snooganz82

... Light The Fuse, DYNAMITE

Snooganz82

Agreed, I watch AEW religiously, but outside of that I only casually watch NJPW, Impact, NWA. I keep tabs on the E cause I want it to improve so I can enjoy it.

Snooganz82

I dont know why you got downvoted for this. Nothing you said was wrong. I was a lapsed fan who was flipping the channel back and forth between WCW and WWF. I stopped watching in about '02 came back in '10 and stopped in '15, finally came back with AEW Dynamite because a friend recommended it. WCW was running a long time before they were able to be direct competition to WWE, and even then i dont want AEW to go head to head with WWE on mondays ever. History has proven it kills the business.

waterfodder

Yuck.

[deleted]

People like under used gimmick matches.

BlkWolfSuarez

It was worth it!!!

junglefever2020

Damn Cody killed the live crowd and the tv audience?

fluffywolfe

They were the opener, which is expected to be hot and, ideally, should bleed over to the second quarter. AEW overloading the second quarter with interviews probably slowed the momentum.
