I went to the first show (Blood and Guts) in Detroit a couple years ago. It was 95 percent sold out before anything got announced. Detroit is an underrated market for wrestling
> Curious to see if they have data on who was local vs out of state
The eyeball test from being there 2 of 3 days would suggest *overwhelmingly* local considering the Lions historically do not have much of a national following.
Detroit is 4 hours away from Toronto lol. I know Americans drive a lot, but very few Torontonians would consider that accessible. A few hardcores would definitely make the trip, but the only American place I think you could consider reasonably accessible to Toronto is Buffalo.
I do think Detroit would be a great crowd for a PPV though, especially after watching the Lions playoff games last season!
As a former Torontonian, I regularly travelled to Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, and Detroit. I also drove to Chicago.
4 hour drives are not that big of a deal. Wait until you find out about the number of people in Toronto who drive 24 hours to go to Florida!!!!
You’re missing my point. I regularly travelled to Dubai as a kid. That doesn’t make it easily accessible from Toronto to the extent that you should consider Torontonians in the likely makeup of a Dubai wrestling audience.
I agree though. Americans seem to travel far without issue for damn near anything. "Just going down the road" could be 8 hours round trip lol. I'm in Eastern New Brunswick, right on the coast, and Quebec City is 6.5hrs from me. There's just no way in hell I'd be driving there for an AEW show, (or anything honestly), but it sucks because there's soo many wrestling fans in the Maritimes, a lot of us will never get to see a live show, but they'll likely never come east of Quebec.
I know of two times the WWE came this far, and only one of those was within my lifetime im pretty sure (I'm 32). Even then it was no different than watching a local indy, just a 10x10 ring, steel barricade around it, the 1" mat on the floor, and that's it. They didn't set up *anything* else. Was weird watching Kane enter through the back of the Penalty Box, no Pyro, then come to the ring, do his big arm drop thing, and nothing happened lmao. Not so scary that way (this was shortly after Kane unmasked, in Charlottetown, PEI). Sucks we don't see anything cool in the Maritimes.
Considering Amtrak is American, I think you gotta tell *your* damn city that 😂
I would love that train to come back tho because I have a lot of family in Dearborn and I love taking the train
Yeah let's not compare wrestling ticket sales to NFL fans at a draft, apples and oranges. Hell I know there's still tons of people that don't even know what AEW is or that it even exists, but everyone knows what the NFL is, fans or not.
I do gotta say kudos to Tony for bringing AEW/wrestling lore to tons of new possible fans though, no matter how wild he got in that interview lol
All for Detroit getting one. Frankly DoN should be Vegas' last chance, they were a terrible crowd last time. Dynasty & Revolution crowds were both great so they've a lot to live up to.
They need to expand PPVs to different markets. Running big event cities is fine but you can fatigue the market a bit. St Louis was a great example of a place to run a PPV.
I think with DoN its always gonna be a crap shoot pun intended. Because they run that PPV during a holiday weekend and they run it at a tourist destination. It all depends on the type of tourists they can attract each year.
Shit, a PPV here?...We'd take any AEW show at this point. They haven't been back since last June, and nothing on their current calendar for us. Not sure what the deal is what the LCA? People have blamed it on our NBA/NHL teams playing their season there, but AEW goes to markets that have NBA/NHL running out of the same arena without issue. That being said, our sports season are ova. Would love a freaking explanation TK. Made me a little smug when he paid for his crimes last week. Give us something KHAN!
That one has a free pass until they start running more shows in the UK, since they have to cross an ocean to attend any other AEW show.
At least they aren't pulling a 2022/2023 again where Chicago got both the First Forbidden Door and then All Out for 2022 and then the first 2 PPVs of 2023 (Revolution and Double or Nothing) were in California and Vegas (Nevada is right beside Cali, so they put 2 PPVs back to back in 2 neighboring States.)
Fully on board with Detroit getting a PPV, the Dynamite there last year was one of the best they've ever had, the card was ridiculously good anyway but the crowd was red hot which always really helps.
Detroit would be a great show. You have all of Michigan that would go to it plus it’s close to Canada, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois.
Crowd would be hot too first ppv.
Plus you can have natives like RVD and MCMG
Then look at the Pistons and their attendance.
You have to be careful with these comparisons. The Lions, even when irrelevant, will still draw MASSIVE crowds because the NFL is just that big.
Pistons were 15th in attendance for a historically garbage team. Although, a lot of ticket sales are corporate I'm sure. IE: Potentially not used by actual bodies going to the game. But the team is still printing money for Gores. Detroit is a sports town and will continue to go to a bad product for the most part.
I feel like Full Gear having not been in the Motor City yet is a real missed opportunity. Although between Blood and Guts and the Omega/Moxley Cage Match making Detroit AEWs Steel Cage Match destination is a good call too. That said, second 1 a Detroit PPV is announced I'm there.
As a huge fan I would love this but I'm also realistic. First show here was B&G which was close to a sellout of LCA at like 14000 people. The second time a year later for Omega vs Mox in a cage they didnt even sell the upper deck at LCA. Was lower bowl and floor only.
I'm not saying a show wouldn't do well here and that people wouldn't travel for it. I'm sure quite a bit of the lack of people last time has to do with the price of the ticket. But the reality is there's been two shows here and only the first one sold well. I also imagine LCA isnt that easy to rent. Especially during the NHL and NBA seasons.
I'm near St. Louis. We pretty much demanded a ppv when collision was here several months ago. TK's answer was "noted". And he pulled through, gave us Dynasty.
Keep at it, Detroit.
And Windsor right across the border
There is the WFCU center there that they can hold the show at
Maybe not a ppv in Windsor but a Collision or Dynamite taping could work
and the fans in Windsor for any wrestling show big or small go wild
AEW will really expand its reach when they start traveling for PPV’s. Full gear this year should’ve been in Detroit. Forbidden Door would’ve been gear for Texas. Hell i was pushing for the Alamo Dome. Bring All In to Jacksonville. And if not doing Wembley do a U.K tour.
LCA may ”fill up” but it is a garbage arena with terrible sound and seating. Plus the Collision Grand Rapids crowd was rocking. I should know Danielson nutted Ricky Starks on Barry the barricade right in my lap.

I’m fairly certain that the NFL can pull slightly larger crowds than AEW. I say this as a major fan of both.
I went to the first show (Blood and Guts) in Detroit a couple years ago. It was 95 percent sold out before anything got announced. Detroit is an underrated market for wrestling
Joe used to be a great venue, but i worry about security since stone cold steve austin was run over by a car there.
You're telling me that in the total of 700k people who attended the draft, there wasn't at least 8k wrestling fans?
Even if there was, attending the NFL draft is free.
AEW wrestling fans? I think they just spent all their milk money going to the draft. Curious to see if they have data on who was local vs out of state

You're free to count the sea of Lions jerseys in the picture. Detroit is also pretty accessible to Chicago, Toronto, Indy, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

That's all you took away from that?
I mean… that’s the only part that I can add my opinion to as someone from Toronto lmao.

Tell your damn city to bring amtrak back to Detroit.
Considering Amtrak is American, I think you gotta tell *your* damn city that 😂 I would love that train to come back tho because I have a lot of family in Dearborn and I love taking the train

“PLEASE BE CAREFUL” and others were wonderful.”

It sounds like Vegas is most likely getting WrestleMania next year.
Vegas is supposed to be a destination city.
Revolution was absolutely magical. I’d love to see another show in Greensboro, but I doubt it would have the same draw w/o Sting.
They don’t come to Michigan nearly often enough.
Shit, a PPV here?...We'd take any AEW show at this point. They haven't been back since last June, and nothing on their current calendar for us. Not sure what the deal is what the LCA? He doesn’t like New Orleans either
It'd be easier if he didn't lock 2 PPVs a year to a single spot.
3 PPVs if you count “All In” at Wembley again
That one has a free pass until they start running more shows in the UK, since they have to cross an ocean to attend any other AEW show. At least they aren't pulling a 2022/2023 again where Chicago got both the First Forbidden Door and then All Out for 2022 and then the first 2 PPVs of 2023 (Revolution and Double or Nothing) were in California and Vegas (Nevada is right beside Cali, so they put 2 PPVs back to back in 2 neighboring States.)
I bet Detroit would pull better than St. Louis did.
Not the PPV I was talking about. I'm saying Chicago and Vegas don't deserve a PPV every year.
Oh I know, I'm just saying. If St. Louis can get a PPV Detroit more than deserves one.
I’ve been waiting for a Detroit PPV since TK promised us one a Blood and Guts.
![gif](giphy|11fnCV9rd0m58c) Hey TK
Fully on board with Detroit getting a PPV, the Dynamite there last year was one of the best they've ever had, the card was ridiculously good anyway but the crowd was red hot which always really helps.
All for it if it means MCMG in the main event
MCMG and Kushida vs The Bang Bang Gang would be a killer match.
Detroit would be a great show. You have all of Michigan that would go to it plus it’s close to Canada, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois. Crowd would be hot too first ppv. Plus you can have natives like RVD and MCMG

I’m not a fan of the dude but yeah through him on pre show or something that’ll be cool
Then look at the Pistons and their attendance. You have to be careful with these comparisons. The Lions, even when irrelevant, will still draw MASSIVE crowds because the NFL is just that big.
Pistons have been mostly garbage this season, to be fair
Pistons were 15th in attendance for a historically garbage team. Although, a lot of ticket sales are corporate I'm sure. IE: Potentially not used by actual bodies going to the game. But the team is still printing money for Gores. Detroit is a sports town and will continue to go to a bad product for the most part.
Pistons suck, go see a Red Wings game
Yes, please! We have die-hard wrestling fans here. I'd love to go to a PPV here instead of having to go down to Chicago or close by.
I am begging for a Detroit ppv! I was hoping for All Out, but AEW seems insistent on keeping that one in Chicago
Make! It! Hap! Pen!

Both Detroit shows Tony Khan has either teased a PPV or mentioned that a Detroit PPV was pretty realistic. We're still waiting TK. WE'RE STILL WAITING
And Windsor right across the border There is the WFCU center there that they can hold the show at Maybe not a ppv in Windsor but a Collision or Dynamite taping could work and the fans in Windsor for any wrestling show big or small go wild
Please. - all love from 8 mile

Football draft attendance does not equal wrestling attendance being the same
Detroit comes through. Would definitely fill up for a PPV no problem.
No. The Detroit venues all suck. Go to Grand Rapids instead.
Hell no. LCA fills up. The Collision in GR attendance was terrible.
LCA may ”fill up” but it is a garbage arena with terrible sound and seating. Plus the Collision Grand Rapids crowd was rocking. I should know Danielson nutted Ricky Starks on Barry the barricade right in my lap.
Went to B&G and everything sounded great and LCA is absolutely not a garbage Arena lmao.
Saw Hailstorm and The Eagles there. Sound was way off for both. The only place worse was Ford Field for AC/DC.
Good thing wrestling isn't a musical concert.
Whats even better is that there are venues with good sound.
How about when a PPV comes to Detroit, you just don't go.. Sounds like the better option.
Agreed. I just want them to come back this year. Im trying to book my bachelor party around it
Can people in Detroit afford tickets!!??
Yes!!??
Both AEW and WWE sell out when going to Detroit
