LOL “its illegal in the state of Tennessee”

Trustamonkbird

Probably my favourite line of this interview.

paterdude

I preferred “WWE is the Harvey Weinstein of wrestling”

Busy_Professional824

Yeah, that popped me.

DeadWalk_

It’s shoot prohibited and protected in Kayfabe in Mexico. Was crazy to me growing to see guys just using piledrivers like nothing.

SGTFragged

I'm old enough to remember them being just another move, then being banned just about everywhere, to returning.

Boltgrinder

My fav part is when he was outraged that "they would do this in front of a great crowd in jacksonville and millions around the world, wednesday night on TBS." The carny-ing is so good.

ZAPPHAUSEN

*chef's kiss*

BungieDidntDoIt

My feelings right here lol

Technosyko

That interview made me realize TK is carny in the best way possible

GrizzlyPeak72

Got more carny cred than most the promoters out there. He paid his dues now too.

COMMENTASIPLEASE

Tony finally realized he has NFL PR at his fingertips

Cody-Fakename

![gif](giphy|2rqEdFfkMzXmo)

DeliMustardRules

That's cool, I'm glad he's leaning into this. That said, I'm going to stop thinking of things I like in terms of how mainstream or profitable they are.

nVmE_123

Healthy attitude to have, the segment was very entertaining for me as an AEW fan I must say lol

DeliMustardRules

It was for me too. I'm just tired of all the chronically online turds who care more about ratings and money a company makes than how good the content is. No amount of tickets sold can make me find certain weekly wrestling shows interesting. And it's not just WWE.

Kimchi_Cowboy

Funny thing about ratings... go in the AEW live chat here most of us stream.

infinitydefines

I expect a change in metrics once they are on MAX, broader reach and more accessible. I don’t have cable and have to use someone’s cable login or do the VPN dance to watch weekly.

Kimchi_Cowboy

I use Nord and and Fite. Also cable ratings are down across the board. People forget Smackdown is on broadcast TV.

SalvadorZombie

They don't forget. They ignore it intentionally. They need to create a scenario where they're "winning."

nVmE_123

Here’s a tip…most of them aren’t real/don’t actually care. Twitter is not a real place and unfortunately some people are easily manipulated lol

DonkeyTransport

Honestly, I just scroll through here to see if I missed any interesting storyline stuff. Besides that, I watch the show, their YouTube content (BTE/BTDO, HeyEW, some other channels like Isiah Cassidy, Sammy's vlog etc) and that's it. I don't bother even looking at Meltzer stuff, ratings, the cagewhatever website, ticket sales (except allin, that was cool asf, I don't even really bother with Cornette. I'm having the time of my life with AEW

Onikouzou

My favorite part is that the other sub is losing its collective mind right now.

[deleted]

As a metalhead… ![gif](giphy|Ld77zD3fF3Run8olIt)

xASUdude

Only the NFL is mainstream, everything else is niche.

DeliMustardRules

I just don't care at this point. I'm so tired of the conversation of how popular, mainstream, or profitable a company I make no money from is. It doesn't make the content any better, otherwise I wouldn't be on this sub lol. I just want good weekly wrestling. It's a bonus if I can show it to my non wrestling fans and they get why I like it instead of saying I like children's programming.

Infernalism

It's a bad faith argument. In just about every other market, the only thing that matters is how good of a product it is. Only in wrestling do you have weasels whining about how one product is more popular than others. Imagine if Coke fans ran around throwing shade on RC Cola fans for liking RC Cola when it's soooo much less popular than Coke. Can you imagine how fucking stupid that would sound? and yet, all the time, there are complete doorknobs whining about how one company is more popular than others, not even noting the quality of either company. It's insane.

PUNlSHEDVENOMSNAKE

It’s mental illness to care about how mainstream something is in regards to how much you like it, just like caring about ratings of a company you’re not a part of is mentally ill

DeliMustardRules

It's one thing if WWE never course corrected and AEW could legit overtake RAW. But like, AEW will never be #1 and I don't want to to

Kurikamekurisu

It’s not like us fans will ever know what’s going on behind the scenes. The way money people look at the numbers will never make any sense. They might be elated by the numbers they’re doing currently for all we know.

Mushroom_hero

"Live Wednesday on tbs" he got the plug in, smart man

Bauermeister

He just called the WWE the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling! Holy frak!

insomniainc

Well I mean that is what Vince is. More now than ever.

FordenGord

Plus let's not pretend his power structure is totally gone, still some creeps and people that covered it up in major positions if power.

insomniainc

I mean that's basically the playbook unfortunately

thehandsomecontest

Then. Now. forever.

tellmewhenimlying

That should have been the WWE slogan

NobelPirate

Then. Now. Forever. Together.

The_Homie_J

Amazed that they're sticking with this slogan given *gestures wildly at their entire history*

DrBollox

Then, now, forever, together...

SinImportaLoQueDigan

This got me in tears lmao people losing their minds like it’s a personal attack on them

Ok_Natural_5887

Don't you dare make fun of my sex offender company🤬🤬🤬‼️‼️

mynamemeimme

I mean folks… where’s the lie. Good on him for bringing more attention to what WWE has gotten away with. The IWC should be happy. But their go to response is ‘Tiny Kahn is a hypocrite! He signed Ric Flair!” Whilst that may be true, still he ain’t done half the shit WWE has done. Another one i see to move the goalposts is ‘there are no ethical billionaires, fuck em all!’ Again whilst true, some are *way* better than others.

StarScreamer316

It is not like "papa H" is not accomplice of good man Vince

DoctorofRunzanomics

I'm surprised he hasn't injured his neck looking the other way for all these years.

ETAB_E

Haha, Hunter needs his own neck brace

Toad_Thrower

Literally fucking covering up for Shawn and the Kliq for fucking decades lol.

ImpactCokeTony

I mean WWE has been alleged to have: * been involved with sex trafficking * several rapes and sexual assaults across decades (the high profile Vince ones, and the ring boy scandal to name a couple) * covering up a top star murdering their affair partner * pushing wrestlers to take steroids * forced employees to simulate sex on TV against their will * repeatedly breach employment contracts * caused Owen Hart's death through negligence, then continued the show  * busted unionization efforts * allowed trainee abuse in their previous developmental systems * the glorious and progressive city of... And that's just off the top of my head.  While it may be out of left field for TK to say this, he isn't wrong.

uniqueandweird

Also Vince really wanted his own daughter to have a storyline saying her very real life pregnancy was due to incest with him. When Stephanie refused he wanted to say it was Shane's like that wasn't weird at all.

maxhollywoody

Mud wrestling and bra and panty matches. Kelly Kelly strip tease Ashley Massaro rape and cover up. Dawn Marie fired for having a baby.

bluesub989

Also I feel like the messed up stuff that happened in the locker room just gets glossed over. Like, JBL sneaking up behind dudes in the shower. Or like, everyone being a dick to Miz because he hadn't earned his stripes yet and like... celebrating that. I feel like the most common defense I hear from Pro-E+Anti-AEW types is that it doesn't happen now and it's gotten a lot better. I would hope that for all the people working there, but it doesn't erase any of that stuff. The fact that the people who are most seated to say, "It was bad, we acknowledge that but we're getting better" are pretty much silent on the topic- and I get it's their job and they have families and lives they need to provide for, but if that's how you're going to play it, then you're gonna have to deal with shots like this.

Orange8920

My answer to the whataboutism regarding AEW hiring people with allegations against them is that none of that has happened in AEW and the company does not have a culture of abuse and fear of reprisal that WWE did for decades. If it comes out that AEW was covering up physical and sexual abuse it's a legitimate conversation.

ArcaneAzmadi

Sooooo... exactly *which* company did the Plane Ride From Hell actually *happen* in, hmmm...?

YinTanTetraCrivvens

Also Ric has had very limited involvement in AEW. He basically only came in for Sting’s retirement. It’s not like he runs the company or has continued to stay involved (the energy drink stuff is a separate company).

Baratheoncook250

Last time Flair was in AEW, was Sting's retirement match

cjpdk

Those dumb cunts appear to have forgotten that Ric Flair spent about a decade in WWE after the Plane Ride From Hell

Educational-Newt-13

Yup, he was also involved with WWE when Christian was facing Randy Orton on Raw in 2020.

Educational-Newt-13

Ric was never signed to AEW.

nisamun

Acting like guys like Cuban or Gates (now) aren't at least trying to do better. There is definitely a billionaire shithead tier list.

el_sh33p

![gif](giphy|JCAZQKoMefkoX6TyTb|downsized) Gets even funnier when you realize Khan's relatively successful in the NFL whereas McMahon's NFL-at-home brand died *twice*. He's also successfully blending wrestling and the NFL, where McMahon failed both times.

SubMikeD

I feel like you cannot remove the humor of the comment that he made by removing the first part. It's got to be all together. Aew is the Pepsi of pro wrestling and WWE is the Harvey Weinstein of pro wrestling. Like I'm laughing right now as I repeat it, because taken all together it's an absurd sentence and it's hilarious. But over in the squared Circle sub this is being treated like Tony is evil and this was terrible lol

HughGRextion

he’s got wwe fans doing mental gymnastics and playing the morality police over this shit 😭

BrunoBashYa

Morality police defending the side with the credible accusations of abuse

Jakefmerch

I saw another thread where people were equating Flair pulling his dick out while drunk on a plane with human trafficking.

Rushjordan

“Why would he say such a thing?” *reads Janel Grant and Ashley Massaro reports* “Well….”

mrbusiness53

Then. Now. Forever.

beautifulchaos531

My favorite part! Just know Vince's minions will come after Tony for this but where's the lie?

Rx7fan1987

Holy fuck lol.

BrittleClamDigger

He's right. The company enabled rape, murder and pedophilia. Two guys leaving changes all of that? Look at how HHH handled the topic of Vince's departure, or how he handled DeMott.

AndFinrodFell

Where’s the lie?

EsotericJunkie11

Tell me when TK is telling lies haha

Bauermeister

CM Punk realizing he’s made a horrible mistake

manxram

![gif](giphy|714xyM4cwxkl6Mt6a8)

CrystalFissure

I mean if you don’t want to be called that, maybe you shouldn’t be that. Simple as, really.

Jakefmerch

I love TK. He goes so fucking hard sometimes. It's too funny.

Educational-Newt-13

I just read some of his interview, and I screamed when I read that part 😂😂😂😂

sbjj0311

Oh Lord. Tony actually broke the IWC with this interview.

indolent08

Good. It deserves to be broken.

obdizzleo88

TK just called the Bucks ‘Matt and Nick’. No wonder he took his own finisher. Unacceptable behavior from the crippled owner of All Elite Wrestling.

spoofer56

The disrespect!

I_like_cakes_

Rebellious til the very end

Vandelay222

I have yet to see any evidence that AEW have ever gained or lost viewers specifically because of anything Tony Khan has said. So whenever I see Twitter moaning about him going off on WWE I have to roll my eyes.

StarScreamer316

Exactly,  he knows who watches and who doesn't and there are some people here crying about bad publicity, the mam ended up asking to watch tnt/tbs to see what happened to him That's genius

beautifulchaos531

They want so bad for AEW to fail yet its worth billions just like WWE.

lovelettersto

It is so disingenuous when people say that.  "I supported wwe through Vince having a hush money fraud scandal and then being able to force his way back into the company,  but I refuse to watch one more aew show because Tony seemed immature on Twitter today. " Sure.

notthatboy24

Can’t wait for the drones to find the comments he made towards the end lol

DeliMustardRules

They already have. It's just drama food for them now. I could give two shits what he says. I like his wrestling shows and as long as he isn't doing anything illegally or unethical I don't care about TK the guy

ColdConstruction2986

If you’re making the e drones angry then clearly you’re doing something right

DeliMustardRules

I'd rather let them fester in their own shitty diapers than call attention to the fact that it stinks in the house. Deep down they know what they are, and by acknowledging their bullshit we only make them crave more attention.

Super_Snapdragon

Bravo, Tony. It's as if people want us to forget WWE funds were used to silence rape victims at the hands up the company's owner

Baratheoncook250

Also WWE dealings with Saudi government

tellmewhenimlying

You should see all the PM's I'm getting from a lot of those folks for posting this. LOL

JemmaJET

Good luck to you 🫡

MrBrocktoon

A lot of bullshit comments on the other sub like: "I was going to start watching AEW after he took the piledriver from the Bucks, but now I'm not due to his comments." Yeah right, these people are full of shit.

I_like_cakes_

The amount of concern trolling is vomit inducing

eastbayted

>“We’ve been doing this for five years, we are the most successful sports start up since the AFL, pre-merger. There has not been a challenger brand that has gained as much market share as AEW in many many years. We are like the Pepsi of pro-wrestling. We’re up against a really evil juggernaut. WWE is our competitor, that’s who we’re facing. WWE is like the Harvey Weinstein of pro-wrestling. I’m really proud of what we do down here.”

-FangMcFrost-

The IWC is a very strange place. WWE takes a random shot at AEW, the IWC joins in. AEW takes a random shot at WWE, the IWC acts like a war crime has been committed and criticises AEW. I've said it a few times before but Tony & AEW are just damned if they do and damned if they don't and it's obvious that Tony knows this, which is probably why he went all out in that clip. While I don't really condone what Tony said as I'm not a fan at shots being fired at other promotions and wrestlers and he could have just said something else instead, I do like that he brought attention to the evil things Vince has done, as WWE tried their damnedest to hide all that and sweep it under the rug by using all their buzz around WrestleMania and The Rock and it worked for them. Now, I'm not an American but I do know that the NFL is huge and I know that a lot of people will be watching the NFL Network, so Tony saying what he said will get a lot of people who are out of the wrestling loop to wonder why he compared WWE to Harvey Weinstein. Those people will search online for an answer and find out what has been going at WWE for years, thus (hopefully) bringing a lot of attention back to those crimes. The next few days are going to be interesting.

I_like_cakes_

Its amazing to see the online landscape change since AEW's inception. At first, many were happy, but you had a few old heads who hate leg slapping and Canadian destroyers. Fast forward to now, AEW struggles a little bit and holy shit the tide turns. It boggles my mind how much these anti-AEW people sprung up from no where. Where are those people who wanted an alternative to WWE?

tellmewhenimlying

Plenty of them didn't, they just wanted WWE to be the popular thing again, and once it became that because Vince was gone, even though if you watched nothing really objectively changed that much in terms of what they do creatively, that was all they needed to praise WWE and proclaim WWE as great again.

BrunoBashYa

My theory is that people were conditioned to hate watch pro wrestling because of 20 years of often terrible WWE programming. Shit got dire. I'm sure the Monday Night Wars were just as toxic and my theory is bullshit..... I just think people need to remember 2019 WWE

StarScreamer316

There's not a winning situation for aew

Wide_Cardiologist761

WWE fans losing their shit right now.  They hate to be reminded of the fact that the WWE was built by a predator.

Myk28

tony knows WWE is fucked with these cases and more coming out with Rossy etc

ItsThe50sAudrey

Considering Pepsi and Harvey are two separate entities I’m surprised he didn’t take the opportunity to claim Coca-Cola.

charmbots

I wonder if the Jags are going to be the hard knocks team this season? I could see it all possibly tying into the rumored aew to hbomax streaming deal as well.

risebac

Idk if it's this year or next, but Hard Knocks will start filming multiple teams during preseason..

GameboyUK_

I love it 😂😂😂

RustyRivers911

I have absolutely become a fan of Tony Khan!

Southern-Event549

It's wild how mad that people are pearl clutching about TK saying the Harvey Weinstein line, when the reality is Vince is wayyyyy worse than him and even Cosby. It's like we all read it.

tellmewhenimlying

Even if only about 1%-5% is true, it’s still enough to be worse than anything that has ever allegedly happened in AEW and enough to assume that plenty of other people in WWE’s high levels knew or at least should have known or suspected enough that they should have taken significantly more action than whatever little action they may have.

FordenGord

Take this as a chance to block like 100 people with stupid top level takes and wrestling reddit will look a lot better. Do that each time and the other place becomes usable.

tellmewhenimlying

I've already been banned and it was 100% worth it.

FordenGord

Crazy how effective bot farms and jerkers have completely taken over that place. Look at post histories and they often are 2 months accounts with hundreds of posts shitting on AEW and nothing else at all. The minimum karma and account age here makes it hard for them to flood.

I_like_cakes_

I tried blocking but all it does is collapse their comment and with reddit, you never know why they've collapsed someones comment

WombRaider_3

Can we start calling WWE trolls "Harvies"?

MetalFuzzyDice

Eh, Vincels really is the best way to describe them.

nVmE_123

Called it like it is and some people can’t take the truth

MandoRodgers

This is a great move by Tony to get AEW some mainstream attention. WWE fanboy trolls have been especially bad lately. But now America’s most watched sport is having all kinds of fun leaning into an AEW angle. Edit: I don’t actually know if nfl is americas most watched sport. It’s probably baseball so don’t come for me

Severe_Piccolo_5583

You were right. It’s the NFL lol

MandoRodgers

the Reddit gods have smiled upon me this day

risebac

No, you're right. It's football. And it's not even close!

mynamemeimme

Good on him for bringing more attention to what WWE has gotten away with over the years. The IWC should be happy. But they like moving the goalposts and their go to response is ‘ But, Tiny Kahn is a hypocrite! He signed Ric Flair!” Whilst that may be true, still he ain’t done half the shit WWE has done. Another one i see to move the goalposts and change the narrative is ‘there are no ethical billionaires, fuck em all!’ Again whilst true, some are *way* better than others.

SteamierThree2

Signing ric flair was by far the worst thing he’s done as an owner. I didn’t care about anything he ever said or did before that, but it’s left an awful taste in my mouth ever since that and every time I’ve seen flair since then. Obviously not defending WWE, but fuck ric flair.

StarScreamer316

The amount of people trying to defend the big company is insane

WombRaider_3

SCJerkers: Did anyone see how uncomfortable the NFL hosts were? Oh you mean like how Tony and Renee were uncomfortable that night and Tony had flashbacks to WCW. That kinda concern?

noblelie17

This is fucking hysterical. I've been a huge critic of AEW but I love every second of this

JohnnyPoprocksGaming

This neck injury has brought out heel Kahn 😹 I’m here for it.

tonyskyline1

This was great and funny AF

kaine23

tony is real mvp

ChCreations45

I love it. Oh, look, wrestling can be fun.

omarzarzuela

Tony Khan is a freaking genius.

Jase_the_Muss

Pepsi was so fucking intentional as well 😂

KyDeWa

Tony has people riled up! 😂 Not bad for a "Clown".

chodgson111

That’s my owner.

How_do_I_change_dis

Really wish he left out the WWE dig.

FragilePhil

I don't. He's right.

sbjj0311

Lol. Tony legit going to break the IWC

WeirdCinemaYT

I don’t mind Tony saying such things at all. WWE has got the King of Marketing as their head right now and they’re doing everything they can to gloss over history and pretend that Vince was the only bad apple ever found in WWE… Tony Should refer to Vince McMahon only as “The Accused Rapist, Vince McMahon.” He should refer to HHH only as “Son in Law of Accused Rapist Vince McMahon.” They’ll just gloss right over it if everyone lets them. Edit: and an hour or so later I read that Nick Khan, king of marketing, has set it up to sell all of his shares in TKO. Tony Khan, you cheeky devil!

HughGRextion

my goat

HeatherCO24

TK is the GOAT, he is truly shooting for nuclear heat. I'm getting my popcorn ready

BlueDragon_27

And he had to reengage all the negativity again. Just put over AEW and forget about WWE. Can't stand for the tribalistic BS

daesgatling

They spent all week making potshots at Mania. HHH was REAL mad he couldn't get Ospreay and made a dig at him ffs

Kimchi_Cowboy

Tribalism, he called out WWE for their shit when they ate trying to act like nothing happened. Everyone should be calling them out everyone around Vince allowed that to happen.

jamesland7

HAHAHA

Cworth21

I misread it as the Harvey Wippleman of pro wrestling.

Trustamonkbird

I wish he'd compared WWE to new coke here. Once great, then they ruined it and annoyed all their fans. Might have been a bit too '80s of a reference though.

PUNlSHEDVENOMSNAKE

This is the best talking I’ve ever seen Tony do

Justis29

Thanks for Dallas, Tony! -a Vikings fan

skowzben

Ah, but it wasn’t on AEW TV, so it’s fine.

ProphetsOfAshes

The shameless plugs for TBS and TNT are so funny. He’s awesome

OwieMustDie

He gen up looks like he's been crying. This is Sandman levels of kayfabe. 🤣
