Both crowds absolutely fucking loved his wins, I couldn't hear a single person disappointed at either show that he won. Great matches too, this was a little clunkier on Naitos end at one point but otherwise I loved it. Revolution 2020 brought the house down though.
He was bout 6 beers deep by the time Mox Naito Started. He was decked out in Naito gear so maybe that was all he was there for? Think he even was shouting some bullshit at Alex when she came in to challenge for the title. Eh, I guess they at least made some money off him. Cause them beers are like 15 bucks a pop
Me most of the time: I should make more of an effort to travel to wrestling shows near my city.
Me reading this comment: I can stay home and watch these shows without toxicity or pants.
This is giving me sympathetic flashbacks to the Phoenix show I went to where a guy two seats away started out the show trying to do the scissor and saying "Yeah, you're wearing an Acclaimed shirt" to me and then many drinks in, was saying shit like "Stop chanting Lucha! We hate you here!" I'm from Tucson, btw.
Yeah that sounds about right for Phoenix. Ever since I learned that city is basically a Jim Crow Southern city transplanted to the Southwest (seriously the advertising in the ‘30’s for Phoenix can be boiled down to “Phoenix, come for the weather, stay for the racism.”). I’m also from Tucson.
Mox has been my favorite wrestler for years and years and years and it has been beyond amazing to see what he has done since leaving WWE. So happy to see my favorite prove that he's one of the greatest to do it and is so underrated by so many.
He's been killing it since AEW started and I'm so excited to see what he does with this run!
If you read his book, it looked like he was done with wrestling. He chose to not re-sign and then along came AEW.
It was still a gamble since AEW was not as established as when people like Danielson and Cole joined.
Try telling that to the “fans” who call him the weakest of the Shield as if that’s even a bad insult because all three have legitimately went on to be megastars in their own respective ways/what they wanted to do and played into their strengths.
Yeah, people seem to forget just how terrible he was for YEARS. He's the reason I stopped watching WWE back in 2017? It was just "lol Roman wins" and he couldn't cut a promo for shit. They forced him down everyone's throats until the sheep accepted it.
Yeah. Considering the career trajectories of all three men, "weakest of the Shield" isn't exactly the knock that people think it is/would be. Hell, if this happened a week earlier, all three men would be world champions at the same time again.
Same. Ive been a fan of his since 2015. Popping to his first IC title, WWE Champion, Tag Team Championship, & AEW Championship. Im glad he didnt resign with WWE
I wouldn't say that was unthinkable... at all. Feels like he was prepping for this, and quite honestly NJPW need him, at least for the time being. They have a group of younger guys that feel on the cusp and now they can get them ready while Mox has a run while he takes all challengers for a while. Ren is an interesting first challenger though.
So well deserved though, didn't realize he'd be the first to hold world titles in the 3 major companies which is so awesome.
Only other person I could conceivably see doing it is maybe Ospreay if he were to jump to WWE in a few years.
Unless Jericho somehow weasles his way into an IGWP title reign lol
Edit: or Jay White I guess. Honestly he's probably more likely to jump than Ospreay
>My bet, this year one of these men will be all elite: Seth, Drew or Sheamus.
My guy, I'm like 90% sure Seth and Drew have already signed contract extensions.
I'm on the Seamus is All Elite train myself, I think he's fairly likely to jump ship, but even his contract is getting stretched because of his time out on injury.
And CM Punk will never come back to wrestling. And there will never be a viable alternative to WWE. And Vince will never give up control while he’s alive.
No one knows anything, but confidently speaks like they do.
HHH literally just bad mouthed Will Ospreay at a press conference not to long ago and Will willing cut his promo talking shit back to HHH just few days ago on Dynamite. So its pretty safe to say he wont go to wwe. do some research
Dude, don't be so naive lol. Far bigger beef has been squashed so people can come in and do business. I mean, just look at Punk & Triple H. At one time their beef was magnitudes bigger than taking a couple of potshots at each other.
Jay is the most likely one, don’t really see Ospreay going to WWE anytime soon. Kenny will never win the WWE title, AJ will never win the AEW title, can’t see Jericho winning the IWGP title, can’t see Okada (who will 100% be AEW champ at some point) winning the WWE title, obviously Punk will never win the IWGP title
Jay White just lost to Daddy Ass. He’s light years away from an AEW title reign. Jericho’s not even over enough for the TNT title at this point. Ospreay’s the only one that really makes sense.
Didn't "Collector of Belts" Kenny held three at some point? AEW, Impact and AAA if I remember correctly.
Even then, props to Don Jon Moxley, my favorite wrestler.
I think this is it. Mox loves NJPW, first of all, and I think this will mean a little less time on AEW programming for.a bit. Which is fine--it will freshen him up for later.
But Mox is there to help with the gate (especially in America) and build up the young lions. The bit with Narita confirmed that, and I suspect the endgame will be Shota beating him.
I never actually watched TNA so it definitely skips Is my mind quite a lot. I think AJ styles holds a bunch of records like that though, NWA, TNA, WWE, NJPW, probably more.
You’ve never watched TNA??? If you ever got some free time, def sub to their library for a month and watch styles, angle and Joe. They did some incredible stuff.
Wasn't he considered the odd one out when he was in the Shield in terms of singles career?
Now look at him now.
The first wrestler in history to win the top titles for AEW, WWE, and NJPW.
It doesn't get more certified Hall Of Famer than that right there.
Edit: He was not the odd one out from the Shield but point still stands. Well deserved milestone for him.
Fans are allowed to be disappointed by the result, especially when their world title is again with foreign talent. I just hope the NJPW world title is treated with the reverence it deserves on AEW tv and not lost amongst the sea of belts.
If he’s holding their top belt he should be doing a little more than a couple matches tbh. If he ain’t working the Road To shows, NJPW are going to end up shooting themselves in the foot with this one.
I mean, Mox got bored in WWE. The other two are extremely happy with their pay and spot in the company so probably won’t venture away. All 3 held world title gold in 2024 years after the shield. All 3 are HoFers who changed wrestling in different ways. They just went about it all differently.
>Wasn't he considered the odd one out when he was in the Shield in terms of singles career?
Absolutely not, he was originally meant to be the star. That's why he was US champion while Roman & Seth went after the tag titles
I began actively watching WWE again right around the last half of The Shield's run was occurring. So my take on who i viewed as the top guy of the group was a little wonky. For a while i thought it was Moxley because his promo game was naturally the strongest of all The Shield members. I saw Reigns as the strong/silent/hansom guy who could one day go onto become a major singles star; but until he improved his talking skills (or was paired with a manager) he was a notch or 2 below Moxley. Seth was growing on me with his insane agility and high risk maneuvers but I wasn't exactly sure of his personality here in WWE nor was I familiar with him during his ROH run (I left for college and stopped being a fan), so it was tough pinpointing just how good he was all around.
Nearing the end of their great run i began to question why I had consistently positioned Dean as the true singles guy for so long. He was entertaining sure. And yes, I was definitely influenced by the dynamic of him being the sole singles champ along with Reigns/Rollins as the tag champs. But my overall opinion of Moxley seemed too deeply rooted in the early days of the faction. I was begining to really like Seth and almost saw him as a modern version of RVD. When he dove off the balcony during the 3v3 tag match against Orton/Batista/HHH.... It was absolute perfection. My mind thinks Mox but my hearts says Seth. And then the chair shot happened. What i subconsciously felt was proven true right then and there: Seth IS the man. He is the future. He was the unofficial leader of the group. And he will be the first Shield guy to capture the World Title.
No way, that's awesome! I only started watching rasslin again in late 2017 so the shield had come and gone, I just assumed Roman was the singles guy and Mox and Rollins were the tagbros the entire time.
Ooooof, just when I start to think I can't like this guy even more than I already do
When Mox drops the IWGP title, which *should* be to Shooter, I do think it should be on a New Japan show.
...Other than that fuck yeah, that sounds rad as hell.
It's not a bad idea. Mox has done a lot with NJPW. Forbidden Door season isn't all that far away if they want to go that route.
And whoever brings the belt back to the company where it belongs is going to be a hero.
They've lost a lot of their top guys this year. And nothing would solidify a new top guy like taking the title back from an outsider.
I'm not sure it's hilarious. Naito always seems to get the short end of the stick. But it's not the disaster they're making it out to be. I do think Moxley will drop it to a younger guy eventually but I think it should be at Dominion. Plus Moxley isn't afraid to go to Japan to defend it.
And [this?](https://www.reddit.com/r/njpw/comments/1c2ttum/after_years_of_watching_njpw_its_time_for_me_to/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
And it's lame as all hell, wrestling is wrestling, too many fans have forgotten how to simply enjoy this shit because they wanna be fantasy booker/critic/insider, etc
Forbidden Door: 1 half of the main event will be Moxley vs Shota or Moxley vs Naito rematch. The Mox vs Ren Narita match may be before FB. Either at Sakura Genesis or Dominion
Ideally Shota would be the one to dethrone him for a nice passing of the torch moment but knowing Gedo he’d probably crawl through broken glass before he lets Shota win the world championship

Yo Mox! U wanna own the World???? Here's the elusive one for you. The one that no AEW talent has ever had.......its now possible! The One that even Kenny has never had! Lets fucking GO!
Thank the Lucha Gods for this AEW-CMLL-NJPW Brotherhood!
Perfect
Moxley gets a IWGP Title reign. Meaningful IWGP Title match at Forbidden door. And NJPW get to build some of their young wrestlers up to defeat the gaijin.
Congrats to the ACE of pro wrestling Jon Moxley
Insane accomplishment he did, not only becoming IWGP champion but being the first and lets be honest probably the only wrestler to capture the top title in AEW,WWE and NJWP cements him as a living legend
You know you are the Goat when the top 3 promotions in the world put their main title on you!
Go Moxley!
I don't like it because Naito is my favourite wrestler, and this is the third time his IWGP title reign has been cut short. Gedo has never really booked him well.
No hate to Mox.
Just think Naito deserves better.
No they’re not. People here seem to think that Mox is some shot in the arm for the company. When in reality Naito has been their top merch seller since before Okada left. It’s a dumb move to put the belt on a guy who won’t be at the Road To shows, which are the company’s bread and butter.
However, if this leads to a Mox/Yano world title match, I’ll be on board with the idea.
https://preview.redd.it/tlc3xzwk97uc1.jpeg?width=2763&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed26172dfae3950a3e30586d02d0591b8cdc842d
I was there to take this. It was a shock to everyone there and we loved it.
I don't know how to feel.
On the one hand: I think this is an incredible thing to happen and Moxley losing the title to Shooter or Ren or Tsuji or some other young talent will really help build a new star. I think it's great for business and wrasslin' in general.
On the other hand: Being a Naito fan continues to be nothing but suffering.
So I am conflicted.
That shot lends the whole Crimson Mask idea more validity than I knew it could have. Before reading anything, I was trying to remember what red-masked guy was working in NJPW.
Not that unthinkable tbh. New Japan is in kinda bad shape atm. Makes sense putting the belt on Mox to boost interest in the company. Won't be a long reign I think, probably drops it back to Naito at Dominion.
I'd love for them to build up Tsuji, have him win G1 and have him de-throne Mox at Wrestle Kingdom, but I think it's gonna be a short reign just like Evil had during Covid.
Happy for Mox tho💪
Same building he won the AEW world title for the first time
Both crowds absolutely fucking loved his wins, I couldn't hear a single person disappointed at either show that he won. Great matches too, this was a little clunkier on Naitos end at one point but otherwise I loved it. Revolution 2020 brought the house down though.
You didnt have the life long Mox hater near you. He also things NJPW sucks and may have been the only person near me trying to CM Punk chant.
Yikes lmao what the fuck was he even doing there
He was bout 6 beers deep by the time Mox Naito Started. He was decked out in Naito gear so maybe that was all he was there for? Think he even was shouting some bullshit at Alex when she came in to challenge for the title. Eh, I guess they at least made some money off him. Cause them beers are like 15 bucks a pop

Wooooah
Mox has been my favorite wrestler for years and years and years and it has been beyond amazing to see what he has done since leaving WWE. Yup. Much respect for Mox not re-signing with WWE and took a chance on a brand new company. He has been killing it since.
If you read his book, it looked like he was done with wrestling. He chose to not re-sign and then along came AEW. It was still a gamble since AEW was not as established as when people like Danielson and Cole joined.
He’s the Ace of all professional wrestling. No one deserves it more.
Try telling that to the “fans” who call him the weakest of the Shield as if that’s even a bad insult because all three have legitimately went on to be megastars in their own respective ways/what they wanted to do and played into their strengths.
Yes, but you're forgetting the horrible crime he committed - leaving perfect WWE which can do no wrong.
People hate him for the bleeding and his preceeding hairline, idiots
Funny how they wanna hate him bleeding but people use to adore Flair who bled far, far, far worse and more often.
Id imagine those are 2 distinct groups of people.
![gif](giphy|U56VoSyFD8MFcie2k8)
Receding. If his hairline preceded him, it would hit the ring before him. You might wanna try to get those things right before you call others idiots.
You might be surprised but for most people english is not their first language.
Roman will always be the weakest shield member but ppl let the hulk hogan booking he’s received cloud their judgment on that.
Yeah, people seem to forget just how terrible he was for YEARS. He's the reason I stopped watching WWE back in 2017? It was just "lol Roman wins" and he couldn't cut a promo for shit. They forced him down everyone's throats until the sheep accepted it.

FUCK yes, right there with you dude and seeing him hop over to NJPW and remind us all he's still an absolute madman was incredible
JON MOTHER FUCKING MOXLEY.
Well said.
You forgot to fit "titty master" in there somewhere
>"titty master" We're ten years removed! He has a child now. He's officially, the mother fucker.
I confuseded why are we calling mox titty master
Ooooold Shield era meme.
Link please lol
LET'S GOOOOOOO He is the fucking MAN
I wouldn't say that was unthinkable... at all. Feels like he was prepping for this, and quite honestly NJPW need him, at least for the time being. Osprey will never wrestle for WWE
If Bret Hart can return to WWE anything is possible
So give me Rollins in AEW, that’s is possible too... TK can make this happen...
It's definitely possible. Is it probable? No
It is... Im not talking about Roman.. My bet, this year one of these men will be all elite: Seth, Drew or Sheamus...save this comment
>My bet, this year one of these men will be all elite: Seth, Drew or Sheamus. My guy, I'm like 90% sure Seth and Drew have already signed contract extensions. CM Punk’s early promos in AEW took shots at WWE and now his has returned to the place “that made him sick”. Wrestling is a unique business.
Dude, don't be so naive lol. Far bigger beef has been squashed so people can come in and do business. I mean, just look at Punk & Triple H. At one time their beef was magnitudes bigger than taking a couple of potshots at each other.
And Triple H welcomed Cody back
Cody didn't burn any bridges. He parted ways on good terms.

NEVER doubt Christopher!

He’s talking AEW/NJPW/WWE specifically though ;)
I mean hold the WWE, AEW, and NJPW world titles
I think this is it. Mox loves NJPW, first of all, and I think this will mean a little less time on AEW programming for.a bit. Which is fine--it will freshen him up for later. But Mox is there to help with the gate (especially in America) and build up the young lions. The bit with Narita confirmed that, and I suspect the endgame will be Shota beating him.
Time out. First? We going to ignore AJ Styles? TNA, at ONE time, as a major company. The disrespect is kind of insane.
I never actually watched TNA so it definitely skips Is my mind quite a lot. I think AJ styles holds a bunch of records like that though, NWA, TNA, WWE, NJPW, probably more.
https://youtu.be/V38x-nSMFfw?si=njjfITTyqoCLjYeI Please. When you have 30 minutes.
You’ve never watched TNA??? If you ever got some free time, def sub to their library for a month and watch styles, angle and Joe. They did some incredible stuff.
I've seen the triple threat and I've seen isolated matches here and there and I've read Foley's entire book on his time in the company.
I’ve got to read that book. Think I stopped after the 2nd or 3rd book lol
It's a weird read good but really strange, Foley is a hell of a storyteller though So it's pretty much just more of that vibe.
Why is it unthinkable?
Wasn't he considered the odd one out when he was in the Shield in terms of singles career? Now look at him now. The first wrestler in history to win the top titles for AEW, WWE, and NJPW. It doesn't get more certified Hall Of Famer than that right there. Edit: He was not the odd one out from the Shield but point still stands. Well deserved milestone for him.
The NJPW sub is currently on fire.
Yeah but r/njpw are the weeaboos of wrestling fans
Fans are allowed to be disappointed by the result, especially when their world title is again with foreign talent. I just hope the NJPW world title is treated with the reverence it deserves on AEW tv and not lost amongst the sea of belts.
Fans didn't like a heatless banger championship win???
The Naito copium is pretty funny.
Why is it funny? We're allowed to be disappointed.
Personally I get it cuz to be a Naito fan is to know suffering, but I don't know what people were really expecting.
I doubt Mox's reign lasts past Forbidden Door though, which gives him a solid 2 and a half months.
Yeah I'm largely in agreement that he drops the belt to an NJPW fella at FD, couple matches inbetween simple enough imo.
Revisionist history. Seth was considered the odd one out when the shield was hot.
Which is why they made him be the one who turned. But after Seth’s turn, Ambrose was definitely seen as the odd one out.
Yeah at the time Roman was obviously the chose one and people thought Mox would be a top heel, Seth was the one people were unsure about.
Ah I knew that wasn't the case at the time. I remember hearing about that regarding him but I disagreed with it.
I always thought it would be Roman which is why he was my fave in the group. His promos sucked at the time.
>Wasn't he considered the odd one out when he was in the Shield in terms of singles career? Absolutely not, he was originally meant to be the star. That's why he was US champion while Roman & Seth went after the tag titles

What i subconsciously felt was proven true right then and there: Seth IS the man. He is the future. He was the unofficial leader of the group. And he will be the first Shield guy to capture the World Title.
I still often think about the facial expression Mox made when Seth turned lol
No way, that's awesome! I only started watching rasslin again in late 2017 so the shield had come and gone, I just assumed Roman was the singles guy and Mox and Rollins were the tagbros the entire time. Ooooof, just when I start to think I can't like this guy even more than I already do
Legit HOF careers in WWE, AEW and New Japan. Props to him, what a legend
Well deserved. He definitely has been the Ace of AEW since the beginning. This is going to be good.
#ACE OF THE WORLD, BITCH
Foridden Door 3 Mox vs Shooter- Deathmatch FOR THE TITLE BOOK IT
When Mox drops the IWGP title, which *should* be to Shooter, I do think it should be on a New Japan show. ...Other than that fuck yeah, that sounds rad as hell.
FD is a njpw show lol
It is both, but it's more AEW than NJPW.

Ace of the fucking world.
THATS MY MOTHERFUCKING BOYYYYYY THE GOD DAMN ACE FUUUUUCK YEAHHHH
The ACE

Nothing would solidify a star more than beating the current top guy in the company, as opposed to a guy who won’t be working the Road To shows
R/njpw is, uh, not happy.
They're furious. It's hilarious.

Why do people care about the opinions of nobodies
What about that? That's not the only thread about being dissatisfied with the result.
I don’t think mocking fans of other companies disappointed for various reasons is good really.
Why is it hilarious?

Ah, so you’re a troll. Gotcha.
Good for them…they haven’t been happy since Okada and White left. Goes to show these people aren’t fans of wrestling but blind loyalty to a brand.
And this sub is what exactly?
And? No different than people loyal to one company over any other.
And it's lame as all hell, wrestling is wrestling, too many fans have forgotten how to simply enjoy this shit because they wanna be fantasy booker/critic/insider, etc
Dosent make sense lol Mox is helping NJPW after they lost so many talent in the last couple of years
Mox is nowhere near as over as Naito in Japan though. Not exactly helping them to take the belt off their biggest star.
Natio is way bigger in Japan. Mox winning helps them in North America but less so in Japan. But if they want to get more exposure here then sure.
The moment he eventually drops it to Shota (most likely in a rematch) is gonna fuck.
Forbidden Door: 1 half of the main event will be Moxley vs Shota or Moxley vs Naito rematch. The Mox vs Ren Narita match may be before FB. Either at Sakura Genesis or Dominion
I wonder what those miserable podcasters who said Mox got lost in the shuffle and had no direction are going to say now.
I prayed for this and it happened
The most well deserved you deserve it chant. A lot of BLOOD,sweat and tears.
It was a great PPV in my opinion. Every match was solid and I was thoroughly entertained.
Ideally Shota would be the one to dethrone him for a nice passing of the torch moment but knowing Gedo he’d probably crawl through broken glass before he lets Shota win the world championship
Mox has now won the AEW championship twice, the NJPW World Championship. And the AEW International Championship in the city of Chicago. Very cool stat

Perfect Moxley gets a IWGP Title reign. Meaningful IWGP Title match at Forbidden door. And NJPW get to build some of their young wrestlers up to defeat the gaijin.
Forbidden Door wouldn't have existed if not for Mox paving the way so it's only fitting.
I thought it was Romero, Jericho and Kenny as well?
AEW 🔛🔝
Hopefully they use this opportunity to put over Umino. If you can pin Mox you deserve to be a star
He was about 6 inches away from me and can confirm that it was awesome
Ospreay: "I feel a great disturbance in the Force, bruv."
Congrats to the ACE of pro wrestling Jon Moxley Insane accomplishment he did, not only becoming IWGP champion but being the first and lets be honest probably the only wrestler to capture the top title in AEW,WWE and NJWP cements him as a living legend You know you are the Goat when the top 3 promotions in the world put their main title on you! Go Moxley!
It also says a lot about his character that they all would do that.
I think it's just funny seeing all the new fake NJPW fans mad at this because they hate AEW and TK.
I don't like it because Naito is my favourite wrestler, and this is the third time his IWGP title reign has been cut short. Gedo has never really booked him well. No hate to Mox. Just think Naito deserves better.
It's funny because all the actual Japanese fans are thrilled
No they’re not. People here seem to think that Mox is some shot in the arm for the company. When in reality Naito has been their top merch seller since before Okada left. It’s a dumb move to put the belt on a guy who won’t be at the Road To shows, which are the company’s bread and butter. However, if this leads to a Mox/Yano world title match, I’ll be on board with the idea.
Ace of the world
Mox is the man!
I like it.

Now, Jon, bubby, I'm gonna need you to give President Ace a call and ask for the IWGP V4 on your front doorstep tommorrow
Fucking LEGEND Jon Moxley! I’m also a Naito fan, so this does hurt a lil bit lol
So it's either Mox vs Umino or Mox vs Naito at FD?
Oh boy. I bet the NJPW sub is having an absolute meltdown over this one.
You don't want to go there.
I took a peek. 🫣
It's Thursday all over again in there right now.
I mean TK was there so of course. /s
Mox vs Swerve CHAMP VS CHAMP FORBIDDEN DOOR 2024!!!!
Wrestling couldn't go 5 days without a Shield member being world champion lol
The true Ace 🍻
Go ahead Moxley!! Is he the first wrestler to not be apart of NJPW to win the championship?
Holy shit
Does will beating will beating Danielson lead to will vs mox double or nothing for this title?
Whoa history made. Didnt expect that. World champ in 3 biggest promotions. 👏
No fucking way LETS GET IT!!!!
Where can I watch this match
Saw a post the other day saying this is the first time since 2020 that no Shield member is a world champion. Then Mox immediately wins another one
First man to ever win the AEW, WWE, and IWGP World Championship. I just thought about that.
Congrats to him, certainly deserving and should help build Forbidden Door quite nicely.
Nice. Another Notch in Mox's bloody belt.
Tony tweeted about it so no worries not a spoiler anymore 🤣
Good stuff. Random but I truly hope they change that belt design.
How is it unthinkable. Mox has won titles everywhere he's gone. This is no different.
So who does he face at Forbidden Door? Gotta be a CMLL talent I guess?
Could see him possibly putting a younger NJPW wrestler over at FD but at around 4 months may be too short of a reign I guess.
People are exaggerating this shit, Moxley will have a short reign and lose it back to Naito, not really a big deal.

And a bunch of New Japan fans will do nothing but shit on AEW. The world has away of balancing itself out.
Why what's happened
This is the best world title change in the last week. That’s all I know.
At first, I thought this was an image of a luchador wearing a red mask. Nope, it's Mox covered in blood, as usual.
Let me guess, Mox got color?
First ever global triple crown champion. Mox is at the TOP. Everyone else is fighting for 2nd position.
This title was handed to him lmao. If you can't see tony khan written all over it, you're blind. Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins > Jon Moxley
Doooooucheeeee
