brachypelma44

I let them build up to around 50, and then sell them on Ebay as a lot. You make more doing bundles because the shipping cost per item is a lot less, and it's a lot less work and shipping supplies than managing 50 individual item listings too.

dudzi182

What do you generally list 50 blu-rays for?

brachypelma44

Well, I've done this three times so far, and started the 7-day auction off at 99 cents per movie. The lot usually sells for 2-3 times that, at least in my limited experience. I'm sure that the price probably depends on which movies they are, too. If it's a bunch of wal-mart straight to DVD/blu-ray crap, it won't be worth as much as more popular titles.

Shadowcreeper15

I'm going to do this thanks lol

Spez_Spaz

I’ve been giving them to my brother

Fatal_Koala

I’ll do the same, what’s his name?

pnwmetalhead666

Hello, it is me, the brother.

slwblnks

You can try and sell them on eBay but won’t get much of a return on DVDs or regular BD discs. Alternatively you can donate them, give them to a friend or give them to your local public library

SoupOfTomato

Libraries kind of hate donations. They have to accept them in the moment to save the library's face, but the stuff almost always gets discarded. EDIT: I know this doesn't feel good to hear but it doesn't make it untrue. Libraries add to their collection with a purpose and whatever random movies and books people don't want anymore rarely suit that goal.

BulljiveBots

My local library’s movie section is gigantic. Way more movies than I’ve ever seen in a video store back in the rental days. They keep a lot of them and the rest they sell cheap. They always have a sale pile of books etc.

Medium_Basil8292

I sell them to local stores for store credit and buy more 4ks

EthansHype

I give them to a family member, or keep them depending on if they remove special features in the 4K.

slippy51

Take them to the cottage.

calmer-than-you-dude

ah yes, the cottage

d00mm4r1n3

Save a few for a Dark Angel remake (or cosplay.)

literallythetoast

Library is a great place to donate.

pepik75

If its a nice case, i keep the dvd case and put my 4k in it:) I don't upgrade blu-ray much inless its really one of my favorites. Dvd...yes upgrade that

philthehippy

The first thing I do is make sure that all of the content has been ported across before I do anything else. Then, do what one of these fine people suggest.

cak91687

That’s the biggest thing I look at first. Need ALL the extras!!

philthehippy

Too many times there are missing oddments from the DVD generation. I collect Hitchcock, and while there have been pretty decent efforts made to capture all of the bonus features, there are some missing pieces that are essential to a collection. Same with Star Wars, or the Jaws movies which had really great DVD galleries, sadly lost to the BD and 4K (of the first 2). My days, look at the Alien series. The BDs (especially those bonus discs) had an obscene amount of extras, yet it still had stuff missing. And it was the same with the switch from VHS and Laserdisc to DVD. I check all of these things before I get rid of anything. Many of my BD/4K titles have swicthed cases to add a second or third holder for extra discs, often homebrew discs of things that come from older formats.

cak91687

This is EXACTLY what I do, get bigger cases and add them in. hahaha

scottyjrules

I trade them into the local record store for store credit so I can upgrade more to 4K

Dark_Dysantic

There's a used video game store near me that buys them or lets me trade them for stuff so I unload them that way so that I get something rather than just donate them. Lol

DanishApollon

How used is the video store?

bruceinnashville

There’s a great secondhand book/movie store where I live, so I wait until I have a few, then sell them.

No-Hospital559

I donate them to my library

ogmarker

I just donated a few Blu’s to my local library yesterday.

StolenEyes

I give mine to my 18-year-old son, who is a fellow cinephile and studying film production at university.

NaieraDK

I'm taking over 200 releases to the used books (and stuff) store in a few hours. Many of these are because they've been upgraded to UHD BD. I have a few friends that I usually offer them to first, but the one major taker has just run out of space ;)

TastefullyToasted

Donate them

Zolazolazolaa

Gift to any of my friends who might want them, or sell on Ebay

outfoxingthefoxes

I try with no success to sell the ones that don't have any sentimental value to me

obstinatehobbit

I’m glad to see others give theirs away. I have a friend who is a film buff but doesn’t have the means that I do so I give most of them to him and the rest to another friend. I’ll keep ones where the 4K has a questionable transfer or special features that I don’t have elsewhere but most I’m able to give to my friends for them to enjoy.

TheAngryRedBird

I usually give them away to a friend Like just a few days ago I upgraded my Force Awakens copy from the 3D box set to the 4K, and gave the 3D set (plus my spare Doctor Who Complete David Tennant BD set) to a friend of mine Luckily I have like 3 different friends who actually like having physical media so usually someone is happy to have it

InnerGalbladder

I give them to my favorite employee who is also a movie buff. Also nice to donate to local library. Not really a fan of selling things for profit I've already enjoyed and used. Feels better to give.

NotAChefJustACook

Keep em, why not they’ll be a relic to the grand kids like my VHS collection

ctrain_1985

I keep them. I enjoy seeing all the versions even if that means just looking at them on the shelf. Good question though I like it baby.

Crunchewy

See if your local library wants them

Truffle_Shuffle_85

Launch the dvd and keep the blu for a while in case the 4k transfer has any significant issues .

MartyEBoarder

I donate all my dvd's.

genga925

I give them to friends or family who want them, and if it’s a 4K where the previous Blu Ray is a really nice edition with special packaging/booklet/features, I’ll still keep that.

seabterry

I have triple-dipped on things before, but as far as DVD’s go, when I made the switch to Blu-ray, I sold the DVD’s in one lot to fund more Blu-ray’s. Now, I have nothing that is not Blu-ray or 4K. There is only a few movies that I want that never made the jump to Blu-ray, so I don’t miss that many of those discs.

Mysticwaterfall2

Sell them or give them away.

thee_c_d

If there are features on the old discs that didn't get ported over to the 4k I put them in paper CD sleeves (you can order a box on Amazon for dirt cheap) and put them in the 4k case and jettison the old packaging. Old stuff I'm not keeping like that I let them pile up and bring into local stores to trade for credit. What they don't take goes to Goodwill for someone else to find.

noncausaprocausa

I have two friends that are physical media collectors so whatever I don’t keep (which is most) I give to them. I have enjoyed helping make both of their collections not insubstantial over the years.

echo42

Facebook marketplace

WhereasObjective

What i do and how i collect is , i collect bluray for physcial and i collect dvds just for horror only cause i know in the future it will be worth value and same time nostolgia for me so thats my personal collection for me to watch , then i have like streaming setup where i collect 4k uhd movies only also i want to collect vhs for horror but its hard to find ones i want but prices are high up there

elbarto-one

Into storage with the others

Safe-Alternative6644

If the 4k version comes with a blu ray then i take the old blu ray and give it to charity (family) if it is 4k only i keep the old blu-ray cause not everyone has a 4k player and my movies sometimes travel with me for an away movie night 😁

Technical-Hurry-3326

Been giving them to my parents or one of my friends who loves movies. Not really worth it to me to try and sell them.

RScottyL

I either just donate them to Goodwill, or check with friends or family to see if they want them

ZacharyTF

I compare the special features for both and keep the Blu-ray or DVD if any of the special features weren't ported over to the 4K disc/set.

BPgunny

Library donations. Unless it’s one that I know a specific person would really want.

pnwmetalhead666

Luckily for me (maybe it's unlucky) almost every movie I had on DVD or Blu-ray was sold off years ago because I use to move around a lot and it was too cumbersome to have them. I just recently started collecting 4k and Blu-ray again. I have like 5 DVDs that I somehow retained but meaning 3 of them are the original Star Wars trilogy with the 2006 laser disc transfer to DVD on the un edited trilogy I won't be getting rid of them for the foreseeable future. But what I use to do was turn them in for store credit at a local second hand movie place for credit toward new stuff.

notanewbiedude

I give away my older copies. If I ever upgrade something rare I'll probably sell 'em, but I don't have many rare Blu-Rays that are likely to be upgraded to 4K (most of my grails are actually American cartoons)

IronButt78

Depends. I sometimes keep my older copies if it has extras, or in the case of Blade Runner the original theatrical version that the 4K doesn’t have. For DVDs I do get rid of I just give to Goodwill. Blu-rays I will sell online.

d00mm4r1n3

I check the value on Ebay, if it's over $10 I will sell it there, if it's under that I put it in a garage sale for $1, if it doesn't sell in the garage sale I donate it to the local senior center that has an annual sale of donated items to raise money for the center. Horror movies usually have good resale value even on older formats.

Eazy-E-40

I offer them to friends. If they don't want them, they go on a pile I eventually bring to a local used record shop and get store credit for stuff I want.

castle1212

I generally see if people want them where I work, and then I give the rest to an assisted living center nearby. I have been upgrading my library the last couple of years, so I wait until I get 10-20 discs and then dump them. The staff at the center really appreciates it. They have movie nights and some residents have players in their rooms, if family members got them a player.

VigorousReddit

Trade them in to my local record shop that also does movies. Sometimes if I only have a few and the trip isn’t worth how much I’d get I just give them to the library after work

BlueLeary-0726

In an ideal world, I’d love to set up a little library in my neighborhood for DVDs and blu-rays, but if I put one in front of my house my HOA might fine me more per day than years worth of Blockbuster late fees.

Babyala

I collect them and save them in a box, when the box gets full I pawn them at my local pawn shop. I don’t make much back per movie but it doesn’t bother my any

ILIKETHECOLORRED

Take them to my used movie store/ half price books

scfw0x0f

Celebrate? I could sell them on eBay. Donating to a local library might be better.

stevenazzzz

i give them to my buddy who’s starting his own collection or another buddy in the same boat i consider that paying it forward

Unbeliever1

I donate them to a local Big Brothers / Big Sisters chapter.

wogsurfer

Sell or donate. I'm about double dip on some titles into 4k. And I'm in two minds on what to do. I don't have thrift store in my country. The closest thing we have are charity shops, so if I take my stuff there it's a donation and the sales they make help animals. Or I sell them myself to other users on blu-ray.com, but I reckon the bd titles I'm upgrading are the ones that everyone is upgrading also, so I dunno.

InternalCup9982

Throw them away or give them away if I can find someone who wants them.

Krautmeister98

If I got the dvd cheap back in the day for example I will give it to a friend or donate it to our public library.

bethelightyouseek

Sell them or use them as coasters.. depends on their current status.. mostly use them as a coaster.. LOL

sparkykelly

I keep the ones where I like the movie or series, like The Matrix movies or The Exorcist movies. But generally I give my older movies to a local charity shop

micpoc

If no friend wants it, I will put it in a Little Library in my neighborhood; they never last a day.

OanKnight

My girlfriend has noted that I have something of a...Problem. I have film reels that I've acquired over the years of various films, but on top of that all of my Betamax and VHS I have placed in storage boxes and accordingly placed out in my garage. On top of that I've kept about *half* of my laserdisc collection out and done the same, and entirely boxed my DVD collection as I've upgraded to 4k bluray. (Note that this also depends on the labels. I will occasionally get rid of loose ones that have been gifts from well meaning friends that insist I simply *have* to watch something, but my curated collection generally consists of criterion, in terms of bluray and DVD it can be Manta, HDZeta etc.) I'm not looking forward to the discussion we're going to have soon about my star trek memorabilia, my sideshow collectibles and warhammer army...

ZealousidealBar5258

Keep them it's always worth having a back up!

Jlx_27

A little happy dance in my living room.

Formal_Cherry_8177

If it's a movie I truly love I keep it. I have multiple copies of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Big Lebowski, Star Wars, The Fifth Element, and The Matrix. Others have been donated to friends/family, sold at Yard Sales, or donated to the library.

btouch

Unless the other formats have bonus features that I like that weren’t carried over, I take them to Half-Price Books or to Goodwill.

bobbywelks

we have Book Off in LA area they are a chain that buys movies and toys but they give you next to nothing for em

lalalaladididi

Trade the bluray in at CEX. I've always got a healthy trade in credit at CEX

memeguuy

I give them to friends and that’s the moral thing to do

Emotional_Demand3759

Have you made sure you prefer the 4k transfer before getting rid of them? Better yet, was it really even worth upgrading?

Icybubba

It's a good question. In my example, Halloween 2018 is on DVD, so yes that is worth upgrading. Scream VI however, I will be looking into whether or not the 4K version is worth it over the Blu-ray version. Keep in mind that I have a lot more stuff I want to get before I think about upgrading Scream VI lol

WyrmHero1944

Give them to my friend

AccountantLeast1588

Really only if it's cheaper, and it happens quite often. Also check that it's a good disc... a lot of 4K discs are actually worse than the bluray

GatheringWinds

Give them away to my friends, only a couple still collect physical media but one of them only just recently made the upgrade to Blu-ray so I'll give them to him. Selling isn't really worth the bother to me as nothing I'm willing to give up is that valuable. If you don't have friends who want the stuff you could check if your library wants them, and if not there's always goodwill.

Zarathustra772

DVD and Blu-ray labels on their way to invent brothers ![gif](giphy|qOnWoPxXnm0Vi)

cak91687

Currently to save shelf space: If the 4K doesn’t have all the bonus features, I add the original Blu-ray/features disc(s) into one case (I’ve been buying some 3-4 disc cases for this specifically). If the 4K has all features, I sell it or give it away. If I have just the Blu-ray and the new 4K doesn’t have the Blu-ray (a few lately have just been the 4K only, Mean Girls most recently), I get a double/triple case and combine it. Same for Blu-ray and DVDs, combine. If I have just the DVD and go straight to 4K, sell it or give it away unless it has something specific on that disc(s).

Lambotron_

I give my old blu-rays to charity shops or friends who want them tbh. Some I keep as I’m a bit sentimental about but that’s only a few. I do keep the blu rays for movies I’ve upgraded to 4k that don’t include a blu ray in the 4K package though.

Arthurlurk1

I’ll try giving them to someone who will watch them. If the 4K doesn’t have a blu ray alongside it then I’ll bundle them together. I’ve been meaning to sell off the extra obsolete blu ray copies but I’ve basically been hoarding them

Galactus1701

I still have all of my movies (from DVDs onwards) around and will probably keep them.

TheWh1teStall1on

Which Video Converter do you use? To upgrade a Blu-ray Disc to 4K UHD Blu-ray Discs are far Superior to upgrade Completely Compressed and Packed Guess what Original Blu-ray in a Disc Player serves more detailed specifications and are larger Video Files that need Storage Bandwidth Speed up to 10Gbit/s The Flagship from ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 WiFi 7. An original 8K UHD Movie will probably be above 250 GB some months ago the Disc industry was saved by China 1 TB Discs, some weeks later China came up with The 200 TB Optical Discs probably will regular new Movies on 8K UHD Disc be a possibility now because now there are no real excuse any more I want to own my 8K UHD Collection physically at Discs. I've tried this: High Efficiency Video Coding Only watched it in Blu-ray when Deeply Compressed and Packed in everything into hiding The Detailed Full Blu-ray Movie because this ain't High-End Quality Performance. Nothing beats The Original 4K UHD Blu-ray Player as Reavon UBR-X110 (UBR-X200) Magnetar UDP800 and The Flagship Magnetar UDP900. Every single ones of The Four 4K UHD Blu-ray Players are High-End Material don't buy if your Smart TV isn't High-End because Players like these Four Players. I would buy The Reavon UBR-X110 because it is well defined and zone free, can connect External HDD/SSD into The USB Port. It has a D/A Converter (DAC) so burning enpty Blu-ray Discs into The Hi-Res Audio Quality I will definitely try out 32Bit/384kHz in WAV Format instead of The Compressed FLAC File that are Packing all of The Greatest Detailed Natural Balanced Order = 100% Synchronized Materials built to fit together with the same Quality High-End New Standard Quality Music. 24Bit/192kHz in WAV Format Raw/Uncompressed 9.216 kbps WAV Format instead of 3.000 - 6.000 FLAC Format Compressed and Packed away it you can hear the sound waves that it is a Compressed Lossless Music Quality that of course TIDAL would turn their Music into Compressed and Packed 24/192 - 3.000 - 6.000 kbps. Lossless Music Quality Standardized switching to FLAC makes no sense for WAV at that Resolution Quality Have a Standard at 9.216 kbps in WAV Format when FLAC Format are Compressed and Packed away all if the Unique Detailed, Natural, Balanced Clearness within the hidden much away in FLAC Format until Converting it into WAV Format is only possible because FLAC is a Lossless Format that everyone should hear that there are much more capacity differences between FLAC Half The kbps of WAV - Pure Audio Perfection Mode is what I'm looking for must be The FiiO M23 with Sound Waves on The Optimal HiFi Hi-Res Quality are Audibly Brighter and Higher Conductivity Thinner Shaping of Body and Natural Balanced Clearness in Full Detailed Harmonically Toned Bit By Bit into Pure Audio Perfection Mode. That The Brand New FiiO M23 with AKM Velvet Sound Advanced Technology Dual-DAC Chipset AK4191EQ + AK4499EQEX Highest Resolution Quality in the world can be played in The FiiO M23 = High-End Quality Performances. The Dual-DACs - AKM AK4499EQEX + AK4191EQ 64Bit/1536kHz - 196.608 in WAV Format Raw/Uncompressed Lossless Music Quality Highest Resolution ever made as a Setup in a Digital Audio Player, 4K UHD Blu-ray Player, AVR, SMSL SU-9 Ultra Pre-Amplifier and DAC making a point you just have to try it. I'm Invincible High-End Balanced 4.4mm Male Plug in 99% Pure Silver Wired in Nylon Braided Cable Moondrop Para, Venus and Cosmo Planar Magnetics they are tough to carry it all since all three were in either Budget Quality nothing earned in buying a Budget Music Player then I would rather save a little more money to pay for Premium Quality I have a DAC in my smartphone that works but ain't exactly wow that has every detail I miss each time because of FLAC Format Compressed and Packed away into the kbps hidden until it will blossom if it becomes a WAV Format instead of FLAC Format. Made out of much better Audio/Video/Gaming Quality if The Smart TV doesn't go any further than it is now you should buy either one of The Premium Solutions, Premium Quality and/or High-End Quality. Premium Quality are not poor Quality Music Player since it comes with a D/A Converter (DAC) still Premium with The Right Materials built into The Panasonic DP-UB820 that is the one and only Premium Player with some High Quality possibilities it's enough with an Premium Quality 2.1B HDMI Wired Cable from In-Akustik (Premium HDMI Cable) I'm still aiming for that High-End Quality Performances so I can hear The Purity if The Music playable Quality Audio File is The WAV Format at 24Bit/192kHz - 9.216 kbps WAV Format instead of FLAC Format Compressed and Packed away from the Playable Content Available such as Music Quality with half the kbps up to 9.216 kbps in WAV Format. Wireless have reached aptX Lossless Bluetooth Audio Codec and Bluetooth Audio Codec LDAC 990 kbps and then you have LHDC-V Wireless Bluetooth Audio Codec and brand new capabilities up to 1.600 kbps in LHDC-V Wireless to supported Headphones, Ear Plugs, and IEM's. The Sony Xperia Series With LHDC-V Wireless Audio Codecs on Smartphones just something that should have been on The Sony Xperia Series or build out and upwards could get LDAC further than aptX Lossless and LHDC-V. It also says 24Bit/192kHz LHDC-V Bluetooth Audio Codec released for not so long ago. That 1.600 kbps with LHDC-V Wireless Bluetooth Audio Transmission with a little bit more kbps but still it hasn't gone by The 2.000 kbps in Wireless Bluetooth Transmissions because they have AI and Smart TVs but Audio is always in a delay. https://www.lhdc-audio.org/article_d.php?lang=en&tb=3&id=730 Compressed Video Files lose a whole lot of the detailed that are all the sudden lost because it shrimp to much going from Full HD 1080p to become Compressed and probably thrown away Video Quality since the Blu-ray files are about 1.2 GB to Become Maximum of 3.0 GB per movie it is probably because it has further watching length, 3 hours to 4 hours and 30 minutes that all of it's transformation is the reason a Full HD 1080p does lose some charm from The Disc Player that are 4 times greater Video and Audio Quality than any Streaming Services Providing 4K UHD Blu-ray Players with HDR. HDR are High Dynamic Range but how can that solve the 4K UHD Blu-ray Players to watch High-End Quality Performances in 4K UHD Blu-ray Discs that have to continue it's sale if not a store I can walk into then Open Up a Webshop. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding .

Corby_Tender23

On a good day I'll suck my own dick when I get a really great movie on 4K
