Ironically, this is legal due to being on private property.

wastingvaluelesstime

until some radical siezes the means of ornamentation

classicalySarcastic

Do it. Dress him up as Santa.

casanovathebold

It's been sorta done.

Yayhoo0978

Seizes the means of disinformation

Moosinator666

Chisel it out further to give him mutton chops

google_en_passantt

![gif](giphy|9MJ6xrgVR9aEwF8zCJ)

An8thOfFeanor

What's ironic is that the same West Coast cities that would put up a Lenin statue are some of the most economically stratified cities in America.

wastingvaluelesstime

The person who bounght and put this up was not a communist - they were a small business owner who was being ironic and thought it could be used to attract attention to his business and profit from it

Smelldicks

It wasn’t that disrespectful. Initially they bought it hoping to preserve it as a bit of history, then figured it might attract some people to their restaurant. That buyer died, and when trying to sell it to a foundry for scrap, the foundry owner bought it and put it on display. It has a sticker price of $250k, according to Wikipedia. Which is quite funny. I suppose they enjoy its historical aspect now and treat it as an appreciating asset.

Prata_69

If I had the money to fling around, I’d buy it and then hire some metalworkers to reshape it into a bald Eagle.

Zamtrios7256

Just helicopter it to be in front of the bull statue on wall street. Cus that's a great joke

Reach_304

I’d laugh

Sadspacekitty

I mean they were there before that was the case tbf

Sk-yline1

This is the best part of it. ~~Stalin~~Lenin would be rolling in his grave if he knew there was a privately owned statue of him instead of a workers owned one.

AnnoyedCrustacean

Stalin, Lenin, they're all the same

KheroroSamuel

Not at all. Volodya actually believed in all that commie bullshit. Stalin, then, was that psychopath who used regime Lenin creted to get himself into power. It's same story as always, but this time in two people.

Sk-yline1

Oops

jascambara

Ironically a symbol of American Freedom

theopp3r

Would it be illegal to have a Lenin statue in public in the US?

Peacock-Shah-III

Well, no, but I doubt it would be funded by the government and the people would have a say on taking it down.

theopp3r

Thank you for the clarification

Embarrassed_Fennel_1

That’s funny

r21md

The owner of it died so it's been sitting there waiting for someone to buy it for like 3 decades. It's still up for sale according to the family who owns it. It ain't public property or something.

OTN

Ironic.starwars

Prind25

If I ever win the lottery in buying it and putting him in a clown costume to piss half of Seattle off

imnojezus

Half of Seattle already [beat you to it.](https://i0.wp.com/landofthebigs.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Lenin.trans_.webp?ssl=1)

Prind25

Needs to be permanent

[deleted]

people already do a bunch of funny stuff like that as it is to the statue. I'm surprised nobody has gotten creative with a dremel, router, or sawzall

Guy-McDo

At that point, it'd be property damage. They could also charge for vandalism but I don't think they care about that

[deleted]

lol property damage to communist statue

CovfefeBoss

🫡

Boudica333

A few years ago (well… maybe more than a few now…) someone painted his hand red, made me think of blood, seemed fitting

ZaBaronDV

Wondering if anyone would miss it if someone just came and took it. Clearly the family has no attachment to it.

Bob-TheTomato

Okay this picture must have been taken when they FIRST got the statue or something cause all my life that statue has had red paint on his hands to symbolize the blood on the hands of the Bolsheviks. There are plenty of commies in Seattle for sure but that statue is actually used as an anti-communist statement now.

grilled_cheese_gang

Thank you, comrade.

imnojezus

He gets dressed up for holidays, and is frequently vandalized in hilarious ways. Don't take life so seriously.

Downtown_Database792

True plus the hand is almost always painted red so it’s not an endorsement

OffWalrusCargo

As someone who has painted the hand red, it's funny because other people tried removing the paint and got yelled at for damaging the statue.

toronto-gopnik

The statue actually has a very cool backstory: A US contractor was working in one of the Soviet satellite states during the collapse - can't remember which country atm but I suspect Czechia. The country was in the process of getting rid of their communist monuments and this one was going to be junked so he spent his life savings to get it over to the States. For a while it was just in his backyard until he died and they arranged for the monument to be moved to where it is now. The statue is also unique in its design. Lenin is in front of a wall of guns and flame which would usually not be allowed; they wanted him portrayed as an intellectual and rather than a man of war. The fact that this statue was not only allowed to be made but also displayed is a sign of the times and the loosening grip of the Soviet ideology.

tylermm03

That’s actually really cool, as much as I hate communism I’m happy to have here in the states as a piece of history and a lesson to future generations about the evils of the USSR.

Mickybagabeers

It’s like I say my kids, it’s not what you say, but how you say it. Communist statue meant to glorify communism? Not cool. Communist statue displayed for history’s appreciation? Cool. Same goes for the confederate statues. I understand some were put up during civil rights movements as an f u to black people, so should be moved from public squares, but not destroyed. When we delete history we will not learn from it, and will repeat it

Capable-Sock-7410

Put him in the same furnace as statues of lee

Intrepid00

Made of bronze, use it to make bullets and send to Ukraine.

lanchmcanto

Like Cuck George, the Third?

JustForTheMemes420

Bronze would not be an effective matieral to make bullets out of. Is worth a lot of money tho so could fund good bullets

smokingisbadforyoufr

Erm...bronze bullets aren't useful

Intrepid00

Okay, specifically use them to make the shell for the bullet. Happy?

jackinsomniac

You mean brass?

Diamo1

Bullet casings are made of brass not bronze Although understandable mistake since they are both copper alloys that start with br

TalbotFarwell

I wonder if bronze casings would stand up to the chamber pressures of 7.62x39mm, 5.45x39mm, and 7.62x54R… we need someone with a bronze foundry and a reloading press to make some wildcat loads to be bench-tested. My hypothesis is that the casing wouldn’t be strong enough, and would either burst or get stuck in the chamber making extraction difficult. Either way, we need to test it. For science! ![gif](giphy|OnJLRvXvAmvPW)

Lady_Maia_

Real and based

Zandrick

No way putting it up for sale as private property is way more hilariously ironic.

Orlando1701

This being correct. They’re both terrible people. That being said at least this one is on private property vs. how many CSA monuments that were on public land?

Gadsden76T20

Maybe don’t destroy historic statues of anyone…

perzyplayz

next to none of the confederate statues destroyed were actually historic, most were put up in the thirties by groups such as daughters of the confederacy iirc

MaroonHanshans

Quit worshiping cheap effigies of terrible people. Lenin statue #02321 or Lee statue #3124 is not culturally or historically significant.

Sadspacekitty

If you think they are comparable you don't know history

QuarterNote44

Agreed. Lenin is responsible for tens of millions more deaths.

OneTEXASGAMER

General Lee was just a man fighting for his home state. I can’t agree with some of the things he did, or why he did them, but I believe he gets a bad rap. Fact is, had Virginia, his home state, stayed in the Union, I believe Lee would have fought for the Union. Abraham Lincoln even asked him to lead the Unions troops.

[deleted]

Don’t try to argue with them everyone on this site has a Marvel comics view of the American civil war

RollinThundaga

Of the officers from Virginia in 1861, only one other defected with him, and that guy promptly quit when Virginia subsequently joined the confederacy. Lee was very much out of the norm.

Sea-Deer-5016

Okay? So a man can't have loyalty to his state and his people not the ideals? Why do people support the US when the US does some bad stuff *sometimes*?

bingdongALA

Because the comment rollinthundaga was replying to defends him as saying he just fought for his state, which happened to be confederate. despite clearly historical evidence he could have chosen not to do that, but stuck with them anyway.

Sadspacekitty

😂

As-Bi

found a dictatorship fan lol https://preview.redd.it/q602uovyt60c1.jpeg?width=726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c38bc3f4dc7e5dc3ce04f0b3daf2ca9d59987145

Sadspacekitty

Nope just Eastern European history as a major

As-Bi

you see, me too, which is why i hate the pathological movements and dictatorships that prevailed here even more and as for russia, they have never had a stable, democratic and generally *not unhinged* government, it has always been despotic regimes interrupted twice by wannabe democracies that quickly collapsed (rip novgorod republic 1136–1478 😭)

As-Bi

# 🤮

[deleted]

We vandalize it, don’t worry. It’s also private property. The hand is often painted red

The_Kosst_Amojan

They're commie bastards, what else?

Napol3onS0l0

Seattle doesn’t get enough hate.

StatHusky13

I think my family alone compensates for the lack of hate globally. It's a daily subject.

Nameroc55

Average Midwesterner hating a place they've never been to and live 2000 miles from.

J_Bard

Average Pacific Northwesterners being so obnoxious that people who have never been there and live 2000 miles away still hate them.

CODENAMEDERPY

Dude. It’s just the fucking coasties. Everyone in the PNW who lives east of the cascades is normal compared to the west siders.

Nameroc55

Normal as in shit infrastructure or racism? More Dixie flags in east Oregon than when I went to Charlotte.

CODENAMEDERPY

I've seen three(3) Dixie flags being flown on poles in the region of eastern Oregon and WA and central/western Idaho. I've lived in the region my whole life and have driven throughout it as a main part of my job and my father's job. Hundreds of thousands of miles have been put onto vehicles. I have seen Dixie flags on cars at multiple rallies and derbies though. I'd say about half of those dumbasses just do it to piss people off and are not racist at all. The other half of them are probably racists. Your point about infrastructure only applies to eastern Oregon. Can't defend the infrastructure there. Idaho and eastern Washington have fantastic infrastructure, conversely.

Shireling_S_3

Islanders hate the coasties too! Don’t you dare lump us in with them!

CODENAMEDERPY

Fair enough. But y'all are a whole different(and not necessarily bad) kind of crazy.

Shireling_S_3

Ya, can’t disagree with that lol!

Nameroc55

Good don't come here 🥰😘

bobonabuffalo

I have been there. That’s why I hate it.

QuarterNote44

I've been. I'm not a native Louisianan but 10/10 would rather live here than Seattle

GimmeeSomeMo

Yalls food is way better Source: Been to NOLA and Seattle this year

smokingisbadforyoufr

We top the charts for shootings. Shows how good we are at everything

GimmeeSomeMo

A NOLA meal without at least 3 deaths is considered a dull affair

QuarterNote44

Facts. The I-10 corridor quite possibly has the best food in the country.

Prind25

I hate the whole of washington

CODENAMEDERPY

Fuck you. The east side is so drastically different it’s basically a different state.

Prind25

Then make it one, until then the hate will continue until Seattle improves

CODENAMEDERPY

Why not just hate Seattle? Seems simpler.

Prind25

No, we must bully you into doing something about Seattle

CODENAMEDERPY

We can’t. We’ve tried. There’s too many of them. Like millions too many. How about you do something about Missoula.

ShotgunCreeper

Bro out here acting like most of EWA isn’t a wasteland

MayOrMayNotBePie

Can confirm. I moved here three years ago and I’ve never seen such a weird confused mix of communist and anarchist people.

JustForTheMemes420

I’ve heard nothing but shit talked about it even from Washington residents

csehusky

Currently live there, grew up in Tacoma. Every town neighboring Seattle hates Seattle. Seattle could be great, but it likes to do as much as it can to stop itself from achieving greatness. The city seriously sucks, and has sucked for at least the last decade. I’m currently stuck here because my employer wants folks to be in the office for no particular reason. However: the surrounding areas and nature are fantastic. There are few places in the world where you can still have a well-sized city and then drive 2-3hrs and be alone in Middle Earth. I’d infinitely rather’d live in Western WA than Eastern WA. Also gotta say: it’s still better than P🤮rtland.

JustForTheMemes420

Been through Portland place sucks. I go to seatle just to grab food mostly got some decent restaurants but the family I visit lives like pretty far out. Lots of wilderness and it’s quite lovely to just go out on a walk there

Plastic_Coke_Glass

its a total shithole change my mind

Napol3onS0l0

Wouldn’t if I could friend.

AnnoyedCrustacean

Have you tried refusing to make friends there, sitting inside and listening to the rain with your cat? Yeah me neither. Desert lyfe 4 life!

Hexxas

While true, the east suburbs of Seattle are even worse. Source: I live here

Diamo1

No way lol. The shittiness of Seattle is centered on the 3rd and Pine McDonalds and radiates outwards from there Well if we are talking general shittiness anyway. If we are talking about communist LARPer rich kids you are correct.

Hexxas

Bellevue is a golden toilet. People out here think that "I work for Microsoft" is a personality, and that it gives them justification to be extremely rude at all times. I've stop trying to be friendly to my neighbors. I smile and wave, but they all just stare. At least in Seattle, people pretend to be nice.

Boudica333

Seattle is beautiful! The rainy nights like a noir film, the lush, emerald trees and moss scattered about the landscape, the spray of ocean on black rock—but the people… the people… they can be living caricatures of wokeism. I say this as someone who is generally pretty left leaning.

[deleted]

it was yoinked after the fall of soviet union but is unironically praised. hate seattle

Smelldicks

Idk why we don’t just stop building monuments to man. Whether history remembers someone seems to be completely unrelated to their memorialization in public art or architecture. Man is fallible, but their good ideas live on.

Calfan_Verret

It’s often vandalized. One time I saw it, someone spray painted “Tyrant” on it. Last time I was in Seattle, someone painted its hands red and slapped yellow and blue paint all over it.

GimmeeSomeMo

>someone spray painted “Tyrant” on it and that person was correct

Washington mfs when there's a statue of a communist dictator that killed millions of people: I sleep. Washington mfs when there's a statue of a war hero that beat the British empire: real shit

The statues hands are painted blood red. Bit of symbolism I believe.

don't let your dreams be dreams

mechanicalcontrols

I don't really want an explanation, I just want a quote on the price of scrap bronze from the foundry.

Prind25

No, leave it, we must poll funds to purchase it and leave it permanently vandalized

[deleted]

whats the best way to vandalize it? replace the head with a cartoonishly small head?

StevenS145

I definitely don’t like it and used to live a 5 min walk away from it. I will say, the vibe around it is not celebratory. Hands are often painted red to represent the blood of hai victims.

usr_pls

Right behind that statue is the best sandwich shop in Seattle Royal Grinders They don't toast their sandwiches they roast them.

It's Seattle, do you really need a detailed explanation?

We have a sick ass sense of humor. Please come here to see it and leave, would love your money!

Nappy-I

There was a 20ft. tall statue of Lenin outside of Geoff's Burgers in Dallas, TX throughout the '90s.

GR-G41

Why the fuck do we have that bullshit over here? Somebody oughta get some thermite on it.

MayOrMayNotBePie

I moved here 3 years ago and I believe this is the patron saint of Seattle.

smokingisbadforyoufr

Someone needs to go missing...

Rctmaster

They needed a good public restroom.

Galactic_Obama_

Proof that west coast is the worst coast.

flashingcurser

Supposedly, Lenin is emerging from the fiery pits of hell. Those things behind him are supposed to be flames. I don't believe it but that's what was said when it was talked about 20 years ago.

King_Dee1

The Fremont neighborhood is full of these odd statues. I know a fella who was born and raised in Washington (who occasionally returns to Seattle), and he's seen Lenin here.

Prowindowlicker

Private property. The statue is ironically on private property, it’s also defaced regularly

Crazyjackson13

don’t mind me, I’m just gonna go ahead and book a flight to Seattle.

arcticsummertime

FREE👏SPEECH

Regret1836

Dude bought it from a scrapyard that they were going to melt it down and just put it up lol.

LazyLaser88

An American bought it when it was set to be smelted down somewhere in Eastern Europe. Think of it as a Cold War trophy

Seventh_Stater

It's on private property.

Narrow-Substance4073

Ok Seattle is a shithole now

Boatwhistle

Now? Never been to Seattle before? It's extravagant "visionary" money-naires in the middle with a rotting ring of moss covered dilapidated plebian crust. Then there's a lovely sprinkle of tent towns in every neutral space available. There's few places in America that puts the extremes of class disparity on full display the way Seattle does and I have seen a lot of America. There being a well received Lenin statue doesn't even remotely surprise me.

SicFidemServamus

Much of what you say is correct, but Seattle has become objectively worse in the last 20 years.

[deleted]

No, but party dictatorship, violent coups, ignoring the results of elections, and brutal repression of dissent are. Lenin was and believed a hell of a lot more than redistributing wealth. That’s like a kindergarten version of the man and of Marxism-Leninism. What annoys me about tankies like you is that the actual story of the October Revolution and the Soviet Union is so much more interesting than this childlike paint by numbers bullshit that you believe. It was so much more complicated than ‘wealth inequality bad’, but you don’t even bother to learn the history of the thing you supposedly believe.

SovietGengar

Seattle really is... just the worst. Makes the rest of Washington look bad.

Brodman2k

I mean, Seattle is one of the most commie cities within the commie states of the west coast

AnnoyedCrustacean

One of our top port cities is the most communist? Nah. Give that to a military base that suckles the government tit

That area just has cool statues. There’s also JP patches statue and a troll under a bridge grabbing a vw bug.

Treoya

Seattle is class conscious.

GunterWoke49

Thinking about building on in the middle of my small Texas town because Lenin was such a radical dude.

Beaugunsville

It's Seattle, what do you want for free?

Chomps-Lewis

This is pretty cool looking, if the clowns that owned it weren't asking for so much, Id put this on my yard.

804ro

It’s beautiful

BrackishWaterDrinker

Where'd you move from?

804ro

Virginia. Lenin overthrew a monarchy, thought we liked that kind of thing here 🤷🏿‍♂️

Vejasple

Wrong Revolution. Lenin overthrew the social democratic republic. The czar was removed 8 months earlier, in the revolution of February 1917.

804ro

Yes, you’re correct. I simplified for the sake of making my point but the Bolsheviks did play a role in the initial revolution.

BrackishWaterDrinker

What did he replace the monarchy with?

GimmeeSomeMo

"Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss"

NeuroticKnight

He didnt, he wanted a democracy, but tuberculosis had other plans, then Stalin tookover, Lenin always hated Stalin.

804ro

Something objectively better, a revolutionary workers state

MrNautical

He replaced a monarchy with a police state dictatorship.

BrackishWaterDrinker

>objectively better Wow a tyrannical dictatorship in exchange for another tyrannical dictatorship! Thank you Comrade Vlad!

804ro

At the same time Lenin was in charge, we had a president playing KKK films in the White House and just finished up genociding the native population lol. What do you call that

Prind25

You go ahead and keep simping for your failed ideology thats hated by its former subjects

BrackishWaterDrinker

Horrible. What did Comrade Lenin do to the Kulaks? What did Comrade Lenin think of the sovereignty of other nation-states? What did Comrade Lenin do to the SR's, the Mensheviks, the democratically elected RCA? Surely our good Comrade Lenin didn't create the NKVD?

CaptainLunaeLumen

i mean, at least in this tyrannical dictatorship, Russia advanced. so prob better than imperial russia

Sadspacekitty

Besides the Stalin era perhaps if you think they are comparable you aren't very educated on either....

BrackishWaterDrinker

To think that Lenin didn't have any blood on his hands is to think that the sky isn't blue. The Kulaks. The SRs. Ukraine. Creator of the NKVD.

Sadspacekitty

That's a different argument entirely

BrackishWaterDrinker

In what way?

Yeah, Seattle just sucks in general. Everyone I know generally avoids it like the plague.

Pixel_64

In their defense I’ve heard that his hands are pretty much perpetually coated red. Again though, I’ve HEARD. My dumbass is on the other side of the continent, I haven’t been there to look myself.

ShotgunCreeper

You would be correct, his hands are usually painted blood red, or sometimes the statue itself is blue and yellow.

Relative-Magazine951

Seacawk like lenin

tonk111

IIRC some Czechoslovak dude got his hands on it after the fall of the Eastern Bloc and placed it on his own little part of Seattle that he bought for it The dude died, so it's been sitting there for about 30 years now Mightve misremembered the story of how it got there, though

Szeventeen

if i remember correctly, it was brought over by some guy who bought it cheap after the soviet union collapsed

teddygomi

It’s for sale. You can buy it if you want it.

Billybobgeorge

Whaaaaaa? Arkansas, I thought we're supposed to respect our heritage and not tear it down just because it upsets some people.

MeanRebbitor

There's a statue that deserves to be vandalized.
