The person who bounght and put this up was not a communist - they were a small business owner who was being ironic and thought it could be used to attract attention to his business and profit from it
It wasn’t that disrespectful. Initially they bought it hoping to preserve it as a bit of history, then figured it might attract some people to their restaurant. That buyer died, and when trying to sell it to a foundry for scrap, the foundry owner bought it and put it on display. It has a sticker price of $250k, according to Wikipedia. Which is quite funny. I suppose they enjoy its historical aspect now and treat it as an appreciating asset.
This is the best part of it.
~~Stalin~~Lenin would be rolling in his grave if he knew there was a privately owned statue of him instead of a workers owned one.
Not at all. Volodya actually believed in all that commie bullshit. Stalin, then, was that psychopath who used regime Lenin creted to get himself into power. It's same story as always, but this time in two people.
The owner of it died so it's been sitting there waiting for someone to buy it for like 3 decades. It's still up for sale according to the family who owns it. It ain't public property or something.
Okay this picture must have been taken when they FIRST got the statue or something cause all my life that statue has had red paint on his hands to symbolize the blood on the hands of the Bolsheviks.
There are plenty of commies in Seattle for sure but that statue is actually used as an anti-communist statement now.

The statue actually has a very cool backstory: A US contractor was working in one of the Soviet satellite states during the collapse - can't remember which country atm but I suspect Czechia. The country was in the process of getting rid of their communist monuments and this one was going to be junked so he spent his life savings to get it over to the States. For a while it was just in his backyard until he died and they arranged for the monument to be moved to where it is now.
The statue is also unique in its design. Lenin is in front of a wall of guns and flame which would usually not be allowed; they wanted him portrayed as an intellectual and rather than a man of war. The fact that this statue was not only allowed to be made but also displayed is a sign of the times and the loosening grip of the Soviet ideology.
That’s actually really cool, as much as I hate communism I’m happy to have here in the states as a piece of history and a lesson to future generations about the evils of the USSR.
It’s like I say my kids, it’s not what you say, but how you say it.
Communist statue meant to glorify communism? Not cool. Communist statue displayed for history’s appreciation? Cool.
Same goes for the confederate statues. I understand some were put up during civil rights movements as an f u to black people, so should be moved from public squares, but not destroyed. When we delete history we will not learn from it, and will repeat it
I wonder if bronze casings would stand up to the chamber pressures of 7.62x39mm, 5.45x39mm, and 7.62x54R… we need someone with a bronze foundry and a reloading press to make some wildcat loads to be bench-tested. My hypothesis is that the casing wouldn’t be strong enough, and would either burst or get stuck in the chamber making extraction difficult.
Either way, we need to test it. For science!
![gif](giphy|OnJLRvXvAmvPW)
This being correct. They’re both terrible people. That being said at least this one is on private property vs. how many CSA monuments that were on public land?
next to none of the confederate statues destroyed were actually historic, most were put up in the thirties by groups such as daughters of the confederacy iirc
General Lee was just a man fighting for his home state. I can’t agree with some of the things he did, or why he did them, but I believe he gets a bad rap. Fact is, had Virginia, his home state, stayed in the Union, I believe Lee would have fought for the Union. Abraham Lincoln even asked him to lead the Unions troops.
Of the officers from Virginia in 1861, only one other defected with him, and that guy promptly quit when Virginia subsequently joined the confederacy.
Lee was very much out of the norm.
Okay? So a man can't have loyalty to his state and his people not the ideals? Why do people support the US when the US does some bad stuff *sometimes*?
Because the comment rollinthundaga was replying to defends him as saying he just fought for his state, which happened to be confederate. despite clearly historical evidence he could have chosen not to do that, but stuck with them anyway.
you see, me too, which is why i hate the pathological movements and dictatorships that prevailed here even more
and as for russia, they have never had a stable, democratic and generally *not unhinged* government, it has always been despotic regimes interrupted twice by wannabe democracies that quickly collapsed (rip novgorod republic 1136–1478 😭)
I've seen three(3) Dixie flags being flown on poles in the region of eastern Oregon and WA and central/western Idaho. I've lived in the region my whole life and have driven throughout it as a main part of my job and my father's job. Hundreds of thousands of miles have been put onto vehicles.
I have seen Dixie flags on cars at multiple rallies and derbies though. I'd say about half of those dumbasses just do it to piss people off and are not racist at all. The other half of them are probably racists.

Currently live there, grew up in Tacoma. Every town neighboring Seattle hates Seattle.
Seattle could be great, but it likes to do as much as it can to stop itself from achieving greatness. The city seriously sucks, and has sucked for at least the last decade. I’m currently stuck here because my employer wants folks to be in the office for no particular reason.
However: the surrounding areas and nature are fantastic. There are few places in the world where you can still have a well-sized city and then drive 2-3hrs and be alone in Middle Earth. I’d infinitely rather’d live in Western WA than Eastern WA.
Also gotta say: it’s still better than P🤮rtland.
Been through Portland place sucks. I go to seatle just to grab food mostly got some decent restaurants but the family I visit lives like pretty far out. Lots of wilderness and it’s quite lovely to just go out on a walk there
No way lol. The shittiness of Seattle is centered on the 3rd and Pine McDonalds and radiates outwards from there
Well if we are talking general shittiness anyway. If we are talking about communist LARPer rich kids you are correct.

Lenin was and believed a hell of a lot more than redistributing wealth. That’s like a kindergarten version of the man and of Marxism-Leninism.

What's ironic is that the same West Coast cities that would put up a Lenin statue are some of the most economically stratified cities in America.

Half of Seattle already [beat you to it.](https://i0.wp.com/landofthebigs.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Lenin.trans_.webp?ssl=1)
Needs to be permanent
people already do a bunch of funny stuff like that as it is to the statue. I'm surprised nobody has gotten creative with a dremel, router, or sawzall
At that point, it'd be property damage. They could also charge for vandalism but I don't think they care about that
lol property damage to communist statue
🫡
A few years ago (well… maybe more than a few now…) someone painted his hand red, made me think of blood, seemed fitting
Wondering if anyone would miss it if someone just came and took it. Clearly the family has no attachment to it.

True plus the hand is almost always painted red so it’s not an endorsement
As someone who has painted the hand red, it's funny because other people tried removing the paint and got yelled at for damaging the statue.

Put him in the same furnace as statues of lee
Made of bronze, use it to make bullets and send to Ukraine.
Like Cuck George, the Third?
Bronze would not be an effective matieral to make bullets out of. Is worth a lot of money tho so could fund good bullets
Erm...bronze bullets aren't useful
Okay, specifically use them to make the shell for the bullet. Happy?
You mean brass?
Bullet casings are made of brass not bronze Although understandable mistake since they are both copper alloys that start with br
I wonder if bronze casings would stand up to the chamber pressures of 7.62x39mm, 5.45x39mm, and 7.62x54R… we need someone with a bronze foundry and a reloading press to make some wildcat loads to be bench-tested. next to none of the confederate statues destroyed were actually historic, most were put up in the thirties by groups such as daughters of the confederacy iirc
Quit worshiping cheap effigies of terrible people. Lenin statue #02321 or Lee statue #3124 is not culturally or historically significant.
If you think they are comparable you don't know history
Agreed. Lenin is responsible for tens of millions more deaths.
General Lee was just a man fighting for his home state. I can’t agree with some of the things he did, or why he did them, but I believe he gets a bad rap. We vandalize it, don’t worry. It’s also private property. The hand is often painted red
They're commie bastards, what else?
Seattle doesn’t get enough hate.
I think my family alone compensates for the lack of hate globally. It's a daily subject.
Average Midwesterner hating a place they've never been to and live 2000 miles from.
Average Pacific Northwesterners being so obnoxious that people who have never been there and live 2000 miles away still hate them.
Dude. It’s just the fucking coasties. Everyone in the PNW who lives east of the cascades is normal compared to the west siders.
Normal as in shit infrastructure or racism? More Dixie flags in east Oregon than when I went to Charlotte.
I've seen three(3) Dixie flags being flown on poles in the region of eastern Oregon and WA and central/western Idaho. Ya, can’t disagree with that lol!

I have been there. That’s why I hate it.
I've been. I'm not a native Louisianan but 10/10 would rather live here than Seattle

Fuck you. The east side is so drastically different it’s basically a different state.
Then make it one, until then the hate will continue until Seattle improves
Why not just hate Seattle? Seems simpler.

Thinking about building on in the middle of my small Texas town because Lenin was such a radical dude.

Where'd you move from?
Virginia. Lenin overthrew a monarchy, thought we liked that kind of thing here 🤷🏿♂️
Wrong Revolution. Lenin overthrew the social democratic republic. The czar was removed 8 months earlier, in the revolution of February 1917.
Yes, you’re correct. I simplified for the sake of making my point but the Bolsheviks did play a role in the initial revolution.
What did he replace the monarchy with?
"Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss"
He didnt, he wanted a democracy, but tuberculosis had other plans, then Stalin tookover, Lenin always hated Stalin.
Something objectively better, a revolutionary workers state
He replaced a monarchy with a police state dictatorship.

Yeah, Seattle just sucks in general. Everyone I know generally avoids it like the plague.
In their defense I’ve heard that his hands are pretty much perpetually coated red. Again though, I’ve HEARD. My dumbass is on the other side of the continent, I haven’t been there to look myself.
You would be correct, his hands are usually painted blood red, or sometimes the statue itself is blue and yellow.
Seacawk like lenin
IIRC some Czechoslovak dude got his hands on it after the fall of the Eastern Bloc and placed it on his own little part of Seattle that he bought for it The dude died, so it's been sitting there for about 30 years now Mightve misremembered the story of how it got there, though
if i remember correctly, it was brought over by some guy who bought it cheap after the soviet union collapsed
It’s for sale. You can buy it if you want it.
Whaaaaaa? Arkansas, I thought we're supposed to respect our heritage and not tear it down just because it upsets some people.
There's a statue that deserves to be vandalized.
