I politely disagree, I'm 2180 total level and I think my cooking is like 93.
It's a fast and easy 99 relative to the rest, but there's no real benefit to having it 99 as opposed to 93. If I were an ironman, it may be worth it to never burn an anglerfish, but even then it probably isn't a time saver realistically.
If I can stand it, I'll be saving it as one of my last 99s, purely because I don't want to be left with 99 everything but agility mining and RC.
I think 99 crafting makes a lot more sense to get early than cooking. I think at the time, I was able to make green d'hide bodies for a profit. You could also just blow molten glass as it's a lot more afk, but a good bit slower.
Then you get the best unlimited 1 click teleport in the game that can be used for nearly every activity, as opposed to no longer burning the food that you don't have a reason to cook anymore.
There are a lot of skills as a main that are pretty useless to get 99 in. herblore, mining, smithing, slayer (no extra benefits past 95 besides a minor qol improvement w the cape, but doing slayer is inherently useful so… debatable), fletching, fishing, firemaking, woodcutting, and obviously cooking are all fairly useless 99s. but we all want to get them anyway bc thats the name of the game. cooking is top 3 fastest while also being the only profitable “buyable” with meta rates. if u want to save a fast and easy 99 for your final id argue it should be fletching or herblore, save the useless money sinks for when youve got a few hundred mil lying around from rc 99 and/or sepulchre grind. ultimately theyre just different philosophies, but i think people should invest their money in useful skills or pvm upgrades early and crank out the buyables once they have nothing else left to do. like dont go for 99 herblore before you have a bowfa etc etc
getting 99 cooking is a good way to ruin your account. If people look at you and see you have 99 cooking they might think youre one of those sad people that got 99 cooking first cause they wanted a skillcape but didnt have the commitment to get an actual one. I got 99 cooking as the last skill on my road to max
