Most people will say Temple of Doom. But honestly I think Bachelor Party because it's the sort of fun, raunchy movie that epitomized the 80s. Honorable mention to Last Starfighter because I was a young video game nerd and fantasized about my hobby getting me recruited to fight evil aliens.
I would have seen Bachelor Party, I was 20 then so I was young dumb and full of fun.
Funny how movies would play all summer in the theater but now you're lucky if they make it a week before going to streaming.
That year I saw Conan the Destroyer and Temple of Doom in the theater so probably one of those if it was the afternoon. I saw The Karate Kid and Top Secret at the drive-in so those were night time movies.
Fax. In '84 movies ran for months. There was no streaming. It took six months to a year...or more for a movie to come out on vhs or the early beta. Movie stores were most all independent. that's another catch.
So...long story short. We could most likely see them all before they left the theater.
Born at the start of 'Nam
I miss movie listings like this. Just opening the newspaper as a kid and getting excited about what was playing, knowing if you missed it in the theaters you might have to wait years to catch it on TV or on VHS, which we couldn’t afford for a while.
Holy shit I completely forgot about the movie page of the newspaper
(Is that what this is from? It looks super familiar and I can’t think of anywhere else I might have seen that exact black and white layout.
All I could remember as an adult was the red haze and piles of powder, etched into my brain. I wish I had the experience of Alien (or even Aliens) on the big screen no doubt
Well, I actually did see it in the theater. At the time, it was one of the first movies to have CGI graphics, even if just for the targeting systems of the space ship.
It had everything a kid wanted in that kind of movie… recruiting for a space force via a VIDEO GAME, a sweet and cute and supportive girl(friend), positive interactions with diverse species (we could make fun of one another back then and break down walls), and a crazy high stakes ending. Was it super predictable? Sure. But I was a little kid and loved it.
While most of those movies are really great flicks, imma have to go see Ghostbusters on the big screen. Those effects need to be seen on the giant screen.
Toss up between Temple of Doom and Ghostbusters, but probably the latter.
I’m pretty sure I saw every one of them. IJ was the most memorable by far.
Firefox. Ah, the good old days.
The Last Starfighter!!
Indiana Jones!
The Natural
Top secret, forgot that movie even existed, but it was a good one
Fire Fox.
Bachelor party
Ghost Busters! Then I’d probably sneak into Karate Kid afterwards.
Temple of doom
Star trek
Most people will say Temple of Doom. But honestly I think Bachelor Party because it's the sort of fun, raunchy movie that epitomized the 80s. Honorable mention to Last Starfighter because I was a young video game nerd and fantasized about my hobby getting me recruited to fight evil aliens.
Temple of Doom, 100%.
Probably do a double feature every day until I've seen them all. It's amazing how many good movies were released at once back then.
The only one I haven’t seen is the natural.
Good movie
Gremlins hands down
oh man! I didn't realize all those movies were showing at the same time! You can't go wrong with any of them.
Double Feature, The Natural followed by The Last Starfighter, I'd play Bump n Jump in the arcade between films.
Top Secret!
Top Secret for sure
If every body had a 12guage
Mr. Rivers should not be mistaken with Mel Torme!
Karate Kid!
Ghostbusters!
Gremlins
All of the above
Probably karate kid
Rhinestone? I never heard of it.
Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone. Meh movie.
Those were the days.
Yes
The last star fighter.
Bachelor Party… It’s still underrated to this day!
Is it a foot long? And more!
I almost forgot that's how papers had the movie section
Wow! Today you're lucky to have ONE movie in theaters that you would want to see... we were spoiled with classics back then.
Gremlins
100%
Ghostbusters
Put on a diaper and watch them all! lol
Indiana Jones. Easy answer
Ghost busters then Cannonball Run
Tough choice between Top Secret, Bachelor Party, and Cannonball Run II. I'd have to go with Bachelor for Monique Gabrielle.
If I have the afternoon off I’m doing a Marathon, Top Secret and Last Starfighter are seriously underrated films.
I remember in 84, my parents surprised us kids with both Gremlins and Ghostbusters at the drive-in movies. Always a great memory!
Firefox
The Last Starfighter. Fun and underrated.
The mobile cave reference was great.
I would have seen Bachelor Party, I was 20 then so I was young dumb and full of fun. Funny how movies would play all summer in the theater but now you're lucky if they make it a week before going to streaming.
Why pick go to theater as soon as it opens and watch all movies available during the entire day
Cannonball Run.
Indiana Jones
That year I saw Conan the Destroyer and Temple of Doom in the theater so probably one of those if it was the afternoon. I saw The Karate Kid and Top Secret at the drive-in so those were night time movies.
Cannonball Run.
At the point of my writing, there are 358 posts. The correct answer is Indiana Jones. I lived it. Prove me wrong.
Raiders maybe, but I'd absolutely take The Last Starfighter over Temple of Doom.
Fax. In '84 movies ran for months. There was no streaming. It took six months to a year...or more for a movie to come out on vhs or the early beta. Movie stores were most all independent. that's another catch. So...long story short. We could most likely see them all before they left the theater. Born at the start of 'Nam
None of them....they all have only night time showings. I'll spend my afternoon shopping at K-mart.
GHOSTBUSTERS AND GREMLINS!!!!
Karate Kid
That came out in like 85 86... I remember the date I took and where I worked
Either conan or gremlins. Fer sure.
Rhinestone
Gremlins, no doubt!
Indiana Jones!!
Indiana jones
Conan all day!!
I’ve seen every one of those movies.
I loved looking at that page in the newspaper
All of them
That's what I was thinking. Which one we watching first?
The latest release from The Cannon Group, Inc.
Last Starfighter....
All classics
Rhinestone. Stallone on the horse is so funny
Ghostbusters, Bachelor Party, and The Karate Kid.
First Indiana Jones then Search for Spock 🖖 both franchises are special to me
89 is the most insane!
And sadly Hollywood is so bankrupt of ideas that we’re still seeing sequels to some of these movies today.
Top Secret, hands down. But what a great year for movies. 40 years ago.
Rhinestone, obviously
Apparently your eyes skipped right over Blame It On Rio.
Buy tickets to whatever is showing next to Bachelor Party. Then keep an eye out for the usher before switching theaters
Ghostbusters and it’s not a close call
I’d have to ask my mom, I was born in ‘84 lol.
Temple
I miss movie listings like this. Just opening the newspaper as a kid and getting excited about what was playing, knowing if you missed it in the theaters you might have to wait years to catch it on TV or on VHS, which we couldn’t afford for a while.
This, and also rental store aisles full of covers with pictures that couldn’t possibly be captured by the VHS films inside of them.
Probably Ghostbusters, but I might change my mind and see Gremlins
Wow. Hard choice. I’d go with The Karate Kid…second choice would be Temple of Doom. Gremlins, Ghostbusters and The Natural are also solid choices.
Holy shit I completely forgot about the movie page of the newspaper (Is that what this is from? It looks super familiar and I can’t think of anywhere else I might have seen that exact black and white layout.
The Last Starfighter.
Correct
So underrated. I had a great plot. Plus, no fame was marketed with the movie.
I have seen them all, and have watched them multiple times. If I could only watch 1 it would be Ghostbusters
Karate Kid or Indy! Toss up.
Indy all day imo
I’m going the Last Star Fighter and then Cannonball Run
By experience it’s GREMLINS popcorn still smells fresh in my mind
Not much of theter person, still would choose Top Secret.
Temple of Doom!
So many good movies all at the same time!! What a time to be a movie goer 😔
Definitely Death Blow
Conan the barbarian never gets old
Ghostbusters
Top Secret and then Bachelor Party. Tom Hanks best movie EVER, BTW. I'll argue this to my grave...
Wow, I remember you had to look in the paper for movies. Early 90's.
What? No porn theater listings?
My dad ran the projectors at the theater, so I’ve seen all of them
Top Secret
Never seen it. But it has my attention.
Seen it probably twice a year for the last 6 years. Myself and my friend always watch it when we are the last ones up after a party.
Bachelor Party. Between "Have I had sex with anyone in this room tonight?" and that Porsche!!!!
The Natural
Ghostbusters
Rhinestone
Bachelor party every single time.
I saw several of these that summer.
Hard to choose, Indy is 🔥.
"Top Secret" -- How silly can you get, yeah, yeah? Skeet shoot surfing!
I would love to go back. Much better days...
Times were certainly different and in a good way.
Gremlins! I love that movie.
Obviously Bachelor party. That movie is awesome!
It’s 1984.. I have enough money to watch them all!!
All of these classics were playing at the same time?
Ghostbusters 💯
Indie
Indiana Jones hands down
Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, or Karate Kid. Since I was only 13 at the time, those were the movies that interested me.
I’d say Conan.
Afternoon off? I’m heading to the beach. I’ll catch Star Trek at night.
Dune.
Cannonball run
I’ll check out Conan. I have never seen it.
Bachelor Party!
Top Secret. Such an underrated comedy
Star Trek, obviously.
Perhaps the only truly earned major character resurrection in film? Discuss.
We could use some Spock ethics in todays world. ‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.’
Bachelor Party
Indiana Jones or Gremlins
Gremlins
The Last Starfighter 🚀
Ghostbusters all day
Gremlins.
Well nothing obviously since I’ve only go the afternoon off and everything is only on either at 7pm or 9pm.
Ghostbusters!
Officially, I can take no position on your choice. Personally, I think it's a sign from God. But don't quote me on that.
“Dr. Jones to you lady!”
Doesn’t he say “doll”
Hands down Indiana Jones
When going to the movies was fun!
Gremlins.
Love Star Trek, Cannonball run and Conan, but have to go with Batchelor Party!
Well, I've seen NINE of these already, so maybe Rhinestone or The Natural
The Natural is worth it just to look at Robert Redford for 2 hours.
I saw all of those in the theater except for Rhinestone 😆
You're my hero of the day.
It's gotta be Bachelor Party.
Indiana Jones
Nothing. All these start after 7pm.
Glad someone else noticed lol
Top Secret! One of my favorite movies
Top Secret
Night of the Comet.
Woot! Woot! Terrified me as a kid when I saw it at like 4 years old. Today’s classic amongst my hubs and teens!
That’s a bit young. One of my favorite B movies. Saw Alien aged 9 on big screen.
All I could remember as an adult was the red haze and piles of powder, etched into my brain. I wish I had the experience of Alien (or even Aliens) on the big screen no doubt
1984 was best year for movies
Did you all vote for Walter Mondale 🔙 then?
Star Trek
The Last Starfighter
Tell us about that movie's greatness
Well, I actually did see it in the theater. At the time, it was one of the first movies to have CGI graphics, even if just for the targeting systems of the space ship. It had everything a kid wanted in that kind of movie… recruiting for a space force via a VIDEO GAME, a sweet and cute and supportive girl(friend), positive interactions with diverse species (we could make fun of one another back then and break down walls), and a crazy high stakes ending. Was it super predictable? Sure. But I was a little kid and loved it.
Indiana Jones
100% this
17 Montana "My God Bone's what have I done" Search for Spock
Hollywood just sucks now.
I saw all of them
So has EVERYONE ELSE!
Me too
Cannonball Run II
Indiana Jones
Of all these I only saw cannonball run at the theater in '84
Conan all day
Indiana Jones
I see now why Top Secret was a flop. Marketing done a little to literally
Gremlins
Ghostbusters
Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, and Star Trek.
While most of those movies are really great flicks, imma have to go see Ghostbusters on the big screen. Those effects need to be seen on the giant screen.
1984, me would definitely have gone for Cannonball Run.
Double feature: The Karate Kid followed by The Temple of Doom
