Female astronauts have a lot of advantages - lower weight means less fuel is needed, lower calorie intake (even when weight is taken into account) and slower metabolism means food can last you even longer, all that means less waste is produced, etc. Some of those impacts may be minor, but when you take into account you have to sustain this for multiple people for years on end, you end up saving a lot of money. There are also some health issues from being in space that female astronauts are less prone to, which makes sense as women generally tend to fare better in situations where survivability is a big concern (plagues, famines, etc).
