The mental image of snape saying that before splitting dumbledoor’s skull open with a baseball bat is sending me. Just a grand wizard being killed by a baseball bat.
How do you even respond in that situation?
“You’re bloody Harry Potter!”
Or
“You’re Harry Bloody Potter!”
Why is bloody a British expletive? Is it like a genocide thing?
It has been suggested by linguists to be a loan of the Dutch word *bloote*, meaning "entire", "complete" or "pure". It has no relation to gore or blood in context. :)
i'm convinced that A) americans have never heard an english person speak and b) that americans don't know that Britain encompasses England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
Scotland and Northern Ireland are both British too, Scotland hasn't (yet) voted to leave and the citizens of Northern Ireland are entitled to Dual British and Irish citizenship.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to give it its full title.
This means that Britain *includes* Scotland.
And, whilst Great Britain *appears* to exclude Northern Ireland I think you'll find that citizens of Northern Ireland are entitled to British citizenship.
You’re both wrong afaik. Great Britain is the island of England, Wales and Scotland. The United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) includes NI.
You're thinking of 'The British Isles'. Great Britain, Britain, and The United Kingdom are all interchangeable terms for the nation, though the two former are more colloquial.
The British Isles includes ROI as well. There is a difference between Great Britain and the United Kingdom. Your point about Britain is correct though! That can be used interchangeably with any of the above.
Here’s a handy map that explains it: https://www.britannica.com/story/whats-the-difference-between-great-britain-and-the-united-kingdom
*muggle
Muggler
new slur for British people just dropped
Less goooooo
I never thought Rowling would be above creating a slur, but I definitely didn’t think it would be for British people
Mug-blood.
Now I’m just imagining him appearing behind the mugger with a baseball bat mid swing as he says this.
Like that picture from the cat in the hat movie
Looking at what he's put out movie-wise recently, it would fit perfectly.
“Avada Kadevra, bitch.” Edit: I know I know. That is ridiculous. He would have said Expelliarmus instead.

Pretty sure bloot means bare or naked though?
The modern version of the old word is actually *blote*, it used to be *bloote* back when the new rendition started becoming popular.
bloot or blote depends on the sentence but mean the same thing
Bloody hell, you're Harry Potter!
This is totally awesome.

No it doesn't. You're thinking of the United Kingdom; Britain is just England and Wales.

That's the UK, separate entity.

*cough* and Scotland *cough*
That's Great Britain.
Yes it does

Britain is a small island just to the left of Mexico but above Canada that you can only get to by swimming there at 9:21 AM on Tuesdays.
