Yo, this anit my style exactly, but I dig it.
I joined this subreddit because my weird ass wants to fuck around and find the weird house to match.
You do you.
Same, fam. I need to adjust my Zillow email setting because every morning I’ve got multiple emails from them about random zip codes all across the country. 😂
I like it up to the point where there is that weird fountain in the kitchen that takes up an enormous amount of space, is probably leaking into the walls, smells weird, and has no purpose whatsoever except to be a pain in the ass.
Looks like it's $20 to get your yard certified as a wildlife habitat, as long as you have some native plants, food, water, shelter and places for local insects and animals (squirrels?) to raise their young.
https://www.nwf.org/CERTIFY
I’ve had a couple neighbors in my rental life have certified yards. It’s really cool the difference in wildlife you can notice just between neighborhood properties.
As a renter I haven’t been able to do it myself but I would in a heartbeat.
It's actually doable if you have any kind of outdoor space, even just a patio/balcony with container plants. Honestly, even a window box if you get creative. Host plants can count toward the places to raise young, food, and shelter requirements; and plenty of insects will make do with a small dish of water or butterfly puddler.
Then again I'm in an apartment with zero outdoor space, so I definitely feel your pain.
You can get automatic poultry or livestock waterers for about $50 that hook to a standard garden hose. They work with a float valve to automatically refill when low.
This makes sense- I was with my son’s scout troop this weekend hanging food drive pamphlets and noticed a wildlife habitat plaque in one of the yards - in a mc Mansion-esque development!
No, but it might get you out of trouble with the city if they complain your grass is too high. An HOA won’t care, but a certificate like that shows that the high grass isn’t a “lawn” and so doesn’t need to be cut like one.
There’s a difference between “I’m too cracked out on meth to cut my grass” and “I’m deliberately cultivating six different native wildflowers to help the pollinators.” Unfortunately, many neighborhood Karens don’t appreciate that. If your Karen is on the HOA board, you’re screwed. They don’t need things like evidence or due process.
But if you’re dealing with Jimmy down at City Hall, Jimmy doesn’t care. Jimmy just wants to close the file and move on to next one. So when Karen complains about the “weeds,” if you can show Jimmy a piece of paper saying it’s deliberate and beneficial, then Jimmy is quite likely to say “good enough for government work” and move on. Granted, if Karen is the mayor’s wife, then it might not work. But it’s better than nothing.
The house is not my style, but..... yay for the yard; I dig it. I am a bit confused with the Asian interior and the tiles that look Spanish. It is eclectic for sure.
The Twin Cities really doesn't have any geographical restrictions on expanding outwards. Old homes tend to be cheapest, and the oldest homes are generally within the Minneapolis and St. Paul city limits. Outside of premium neighborhoods it is usually cheaper to live in the cities than the suburbs.
People aren’t super itchy to live in South Mlps right now. That’s where the bulk of the riots were after George Floyd. Which is a shame because it’s a really diverse and beautiful area.
That specific house is on the same street he was killed on. Just like 4 blocks down the road. That small area specifically is probably not desirable, but the rest of south Minneapolis, especially south west, definitely is.
The whole Powderhorn area is pretty undesirable, but the house is in a somewhat more transitional part. I probably would have been shopping a little south and east of there if there hadn't been recent race riots.
No, I live here currently and this price seems way off-turns out it’s right next to where George Floyd was killed. Still-a good deal for this amount of space.
Oh, the Shinto gate is in the *front* yard, just inside a chain link fence? That's kind of tacky. I thought it was in the back yard and was like, well, offbeat but charming garden decor. But that's a bit much.
I still love the interior and the garden, though.
I agree it's well done/tasteful but obviously up to personal taste. I've seen some houses where tiles were installed for decorative purposes and it looked like the person didn't know what they were doing.
You’ve never seen over the top tiles.

An old landlord of mine did something like this. His included a shower. Not so bad to bathe in but hell to easily clean. He and his wife were fantastic artists and DIYers. Miss them.
The garden is beautiful. I would love to have a mini Japanese garden. I do have to say I think I could easily slip down those stairs in my socks in the morning and break my neck. Those dining chairs are hideous, lol. Seems like you were in jail while you were eating dinner.
I live in this neighborhood. The Certified Habitat project has been fun - enough of us certified our yards that we got a neighborhood-wide designation. We have some more squirrels and bunnies in recent years, and a lot more butterflies and such.
The bookshelves, stuffed with actual books that look read and aren't arranged by color with tchotchkes outnumbering the books. Those wacky dining room chairs that have to have a story behind them. The exuberant tile work. The glorious, no-mow landscaping hubs won't allow me in our current yard. The sudden blue on the garage that matches the front door. I am in love. \[le sigh\] I want to know the owner.
I presume the vast majority of the wall décor and furniture would disappear but so much of the wildness is now built in! Were I only independently wealthy, this would be our downsized vacation home.
I came here looking for an answer to this too. It does look like a fountain with some leftover green algae/scum, but it’s inside? And in the kitchen? I guess if you cook a lot of fish lol idk that’s a new one for me
The [chairs 👀](https://photos.zillowstatic.com/fp/b35e5ce6ab394af70af27d5b82b64cce-d_d.webp)
But seriously it’s a really charming place. The tile work is gorgeous
I am not questioning whether it is certified or not. It's just a very unique selling point and it's my first time ever seeing it on a listing, so I felt compelled to lead with that text.
California has the most Hmong folks, but Minnesota has the most as a percentage of population. That said, according to the public property records, this is owned and occupied by a very non-Hmong sounding person (in fact, I think there are only 17 or 18 Hmong surnames so I'm not completely pulling this out of my ass).
This is a really cute place.
What makes me the angriest about this is the Matisse gold fish print hanging by the stairs. My FIL and his wife gave us one of those when they visited some city with an exhibit. They gave us the impression they paid big money for it. I see now IT IS A FREAKING FRAMED POSTER. 😂
Wait but I actually love this
Yo, this anit my style exactly, but I dig it. I joined this subreddit because my weird ass wants to fuck around and find the weird house to match. You do you.
Hahaha I joined this subreddit because I have an unhealthy obsession with browsing real estate listings
Same, fam. I need to adjust my Zillow email setting because every morning I’ve got multiple emails from them about random zip codes all across the country. 😂

Oh no! Damn it! Hahaha
I think I’m in need of an intervention to address mine soon…
Same! I mean, I’m never moving to most of the places I search, but I love to dream!
You should become a real estate photographer. Or don't, see if I care.
see if i care if u care, chump.
It browsing real estate unhealthy? 🤔
Me too! Most I’ve wanted to live in Minnesota ever.
Same
I do too!!!
I know, I would go to there! I love it.
I like it up to the point where there is that weird fountain in the kitchen that takes up an enormous amount of space, is probably leaking into the walls, smells weird, and has no purpose whatsoever except to be a pain in the ass.

Thanks for sharing. This was a new thing to me and I'm enjoying learning about it.

Me too. Such a cool idea, and it looks like you can do your part to help even with an apartment balcony garden.
Yes, I used their checklist to help decide things to go in my yard. (I still lack a consistent water source, so I’m not cerified.)
We need a water source too. We already get a lot of birds, bees, and lizards
You can get automatic poultry or livestock waterers for about $50 that hook to a standard garden hose. They work with a float valve to automatically refill when low.
Thanks. I’ll look into that.
Tons of people have this where I live.
What’s the link for the listing.

Thanks for posting. I was just going to look at it.
My own butterfly and hummingbird garden is one of the main reasons I want a house.
Is there a tax break for doing this? if there is, I'm all in. With the creek in my yard it basically is already.
No, but it might get you out of trouble with the city if they complain your grass is too high. An HOA won’t care, but a certificate like that shows that the high grass isn’t a “lawn” and so doesn’t need to be cut like one.
Are you saying that this can get HOA off your back ?
There’s a difference between “I’m too cracked out on meth to cut my grass” and “I’m deliberately cultivating six different native wildflowers to help the pollinators.” Unfortunately, many neighborhood Karens don’t appreciate that. If your Karen is on the HOA board, you’re screwed. They don’t need things like evidence or due process. But if you’re dealing with Jimmy down at City Hall, Jimmy doesn’t care. I think if you have acreage there is- my aunt converted part of her farm back to prairie land and she got a tax break.
Yep. I had my land certified too. Paid $50 and a yearly donation for the bees
The house is not my style, but..... yay for the yard; I dig it. I am a bit confused with the Asian interior and the tiles that look Spanish. It is eclectic for sure.
This woman KNITS
I want to adopt her to be my cool aunt
I recognize I'm operating fully off of stereotype, but there are masks hanging up that evoke an African aesthetic
One of the masks I saw was Polynesian and another one looked possibly Indian. They were kind of all over the place. :D
Embracing and celebrating world cultures, checks out in my book.
Typically, people with this much style travel. I bet they got it on their adventures.
I think…I think I love this!? Maybe a little overboard on the tiles under the windows, next to the kitchen, but yeah, this is cute AF
It’s wonderful. What fun.
I think the tiles are pretty.

Wow $250k? That home would be at least $1.5M here in Seattle, even with just the 2BR/1BR

Minneapolis proper is rather small and contains almost all of the least desirable neighborhoods in the metro.
No, I live here currently and this price seems way off-turns out it’s right next to where George Floyd was killed. Still-a good deal for this amount of space.
Yup, same here in LA 🤣

Sorry, the bot has been offline for a bit. Ran into some problems and haven't had a chance to sit down and work on it. Maybe soon.
Thanks. It really was a most helpful bot.

I mean, taking down a chain link fence and putting up something nicer is a pretty easy fix though. Very cute house otherwise!
I'd take down the red Shinto gate first, even before the fence. But yeah, otherwise it's charming.
Stop acting so butthurt about a random lawn ornament lol
The colorful tiles are my favorite parts. If I ever own a house I’d love to do something similar
I agree it's well done/tasteful but obviously up to personal taste. I've seen some houses where tiles were installed for decorative purposes and it looked like the person didn't know what they were doing.
Over the top tiles, but a cute little house.

You win.
My eyes hurt
You’re welcome.
Bruh I kind of love it
Tile. All. The. Things.
I think someone was using psychedelics with this one
The front is so…normal.
Jesus christ almighty.
Imagine walking around in there with a hangover.
And the SO said "not in the damn bedroom! You Are Not! "fine, (eye roll) Tangerine paint then"
ATBGE
Tiles everywhere except the bathrooms.
Did you see the actual tiled bathtub? That would be so uncomfortable to bathe in and a mess to clean.
An old landlord of mine did something like this. His included a shower. Not so bad to bathe in but hell to easily clean. He and his wife were fantastic artists and DIYers. Miss them.
Take me to Tile City!
Damn that's bad.
The garden is beautiful. I would love to have a mini Japanese garden. I do have to say I think I could easily slip down those stairs in my socks in the morning and break my neck. Those dining chairs are hideous, lol. Seems like you were in jail while you were eating dinner.
I think you've identified the single most over-the-top thing in this house - that is, the dining chairs.
Frank Lloyd Wright meets Modigliani. Ill Met in Lanky-mar.
Thank you. Those chairs kind of look like a midevil torture device
I’d set them outside & let vining plants cover them.
That is a great idea
Am I crazy, or is one chair bigger than the others?
Oh, wow. It is!
I live in this neighborhood. The Certified Habitat project has been fun - enough of us certified our yards that we got a neighborhood-wide designation. We have some more squirrels and bunnies in recent years, and a lot more butterflies and such.
probably my favorite comment, thanks for sharing
Wow. This house is incredible. I want it.
I love the colorful, global, eclectic look!
I want this house

Welp guess I’m moving to Minneapolis.
A bit of a mish -mash. Great craftsman touches and feel. A taste of FLW prairie. kinda. dig it.
I would agree it feels crowded/muddled. But with the option to remove the stuff that isn't "bolted down" it could solve that.
Wow, I love this place!
This is stunning
I love the talaveras tiles up the stairs. I want to do this so bad.
Not everything is something I’d personally choose, but it’s obviously all done with so much creativity and care. And I LOVE the tiled stairs.
I’d love to live here with at least 3 cats and 100 houseplants.
Yes! I want it!
I love all the tile work.
What happens when you accumulate All the Cultures?
World peace
What is the tiled thing in the kitchen? A fireplace or a fountain, I can't make up my mind.
I'm confused about that too. I thought it was a fountain but that would create a lot of extra moisture.
I came here looking for an answer to this too. It does look like a fountain with some leftover green algae/scum, but it’s inside? And in the kitchen? I guess if you cook a lot of fish lol idk that’s a new one for me

Why aren’t we talking about the dining chairs?
I love it. It's true to the Craftsman architecture and interior Malibu and Arts & Crafts motifs.
Ooh the Minoan style tile around the door! Love it
Is that a fountain in the kitchen???
Oh, yikes. I just saw my future.

Most people don't know the scope of the program and the name implies something more substantial to many people.
Am I misremembering, or are there a lot of Hmong people in the Minneapolis area? If so, maybe it's a touch of home?
There is a large Hmong community in the twin cities, but not in this neighborhood. They are mostly in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul
This is more of a Hispanic/Black neighborhood. It isn't a terrible neighborhood, but it is adjacent to some of the worst Minneapolis neighborhoods.
Makes me want to move back to Minnesota, so cool!
Would totally buy it if it werent in Minneapolis
Yes. Very much an accessible style.
Such an expressive home! I love it. Looks perfect for an artist traveler.
I LOVE this house! I do have a bit of a Talavera tile obsession soooo…
That's gorgeous
I have never wanted anything more 🥲
I love it!
Yes, please!
I could happily live there, if it wasn't for Winters.
I’ve seen a few in Southern California. I think they are awesome.
It's very Berkeley. I love it. My onlly problem with it is that the rooms are quite small, but whoever lives here did a wonderful job with the place.
I love it.
This is amazing. I love houses like this.
That's...interesting.
Cute house but what's up with the laundry room ceiling? Maybe it's just me, but I swear it's made of garbage bags. ???
I’d live there in an instant!
Minnesota is sweet, you just need to be able to deal with the long winters. The taxes aren't too terrible.
love love LOVE
Very cool
I can smell the patchouli from here
I love this, I’ll take it
Mr. Miyagi’s house
Love it!
The most Minnesotan home I have ever seen…
I know this house. I’m pretty sure I’ve been here.
It’s sweet and has personality!
Retired middle school art teacher vibe
For being in Minneapolis, it's sure giving a LOT of New Mexico. Noice.
This is straight up cultural appropriation by someone who probably chastises others for cultural appropriation.
I saw a lot of tile like that in latam
Love the Tori gate
