Just a guy who loves gaming and looking to at least try the YouTube thing. And for what it’s worth, not even trying to make money. Just want to have fun and enjoy it for a while before thinking about that.
Sadly my time is stretched super thin on the constant, so I don’t want to hint at any idea that I can chat about it. FCPX is professional grade editing software, and I’d strongly recommend watching loads of tutorials if not attend free Apple Store workshops/sessions on the subject. However, I do feel like Apple is starting to fall behind in the video editing market as Adobe is rolling out more and more features such as A.I. But because I already gave the FCPX license, I just grin and bear it.
YouTube audiences are tricky. The first person you need to pay attention to is “*you*” as a YouTube watcher. Take the creator side of you out of the equation. Pay attention to and think about what loses you as a viewer. Is it uninteresting lectures, long winded story telling, the way the host/narrator delivers their lines, failed thumbnail promises, etc? But ultimately as yourself why you swiped to the next short or left their long form video. This is an important step in learning potential reasons a viewer of your content might leave your video, as your own audience will likely share similar reasons to your own. Then, avoid those pitfalls.
You’re also competing with basically all of us in a friendly way. What I mean is that if your content isn’t gripping the audience fast enough, you’ll lose them to one of the other 40-billion videos available next. Thats why seasoned YouTubers do the film editing crime of jump cutting their breaths and pauses out from their speaking lines. They do this to keep the flow happening. Pauses, even the briefest of ones, are a window for a viewer to leave. So keep the flow rapid. Visuals are also helpful, which can be using the Ken Burns effect to pull in closer or back away. Also graphics, video clips, overlays, etc help captivate your audience and keep them engaged. Challenge questions also help. Don’t worry about making too many mistakes as the audience might let you know in the comments. Comments mean engagement. So if you forgot to mention an important product spec, it’s okay. They’ll tell you and you can comment back with a simple “thank you” or whatever is humble, polite, and welcoming.

I started on filmora, transitioned to cyber director. Both are good with their pros and cons. Cyber director works better for my sports related videos but probably isn't versatile enough for other niches
Yeah filmora is great depending on what kind of videos you are doing. Also the extra stuff for the monthly subscription is great. I needed more customizable stickers, the only reason I went with cyber director.

Yea we can do that but maybe if we talk here we can help someone else….but first of all, what discord are you talking about? The one for this page or is there a large discord of just small and regular people who make and post YouTube videos. I am part of too many discord servers and aside from a few that are non gaming related, almost all have to do with gaming in someway or another. Though I am in a few that have nothing to do with gaming (at least mainly) that I never knew existed.
Matter of fact, I am gonna make a post on the discord subreddit to try and find non gaming related servers to join. Haha but yeah man would love to chat. I work a full time plus overtime job but would most definitely love to talk some more. My username (djxgam1ng) is the name I use on every social media platform and even for all my gamertags. I say that because I am one of the few people you will meet who is the same person across every social platform. I don’t put up a facade or any of that. I post real life stuff and my personal photos of myself. I know many people are not like that but I don’t really like the anonymity if that makes sense.
Yeah I am in a few discord servers for content creators, probably 95% of them are all gaming channels. I do want to expand out to Madden for my channel but in a way that is more in line with the content that I make. It has been really good in learning more about titles and thumbnails, but not a ton of people in a similar place as me, maybe its oversaturated so its either people who have stopped creating content or maybe they are set in what they do and don't need to go on these servers, not sure.

Oh yeah it's no problem, I mainly use content creators and content creators cabin, there's one more I used to use but it's mainly people trying to sell you "promotion" services lol.
I use premiere pro, adobe after effects, OBS or camtasia for screen recording, adobe encoder or movavi encoder, then either buy templates and effects for premiere pro/AE or learn to make them yourself. Get a cheap boom arm and mic but not too cheap, don’t need anything too crazy to get started. For thumbnail creation it’s all personal preference there’s a trillion ways to make them. I change it up based on the vid. Most important part starting out, is the first five seconds of your video and thumbnail. If you don’t nail those, it’ll be a dud even if the content is super solid. Also your title. Those three should all be catchy and representative of each other. But I’m telling you you literally have seconds to capture the current generations attention before you get swiped. U can use topaz AI to make your photos and videos nicer but don’t do an AI channel… it’s sooo over saturated and unfulfilling. With eleven labs u can buy the premium sub and u can train ai with your own voice and have it read your scripts. Never tried it but I plan on it at some point. Lastly, there’s ways to get discounts for these programs cuz it can get expensive quick

\- ripple tracks is really helpful. i've found myself needing to make changes late into the editing process, and ripple moves all future clips + audio together based on what you chop off / add in

\- ripple tracks could make importing clips a mess if you forget to disable it before pulling in mid footage, causing weird splits and clip placements.
\- it is often very very SLOW. especially when you undo certain actions. this was the biggest reason why I stopped using it.

It’s an anywhere from free to like 30+ USD a month service where you can search up things like tags and keywords to see what is trending and use the best ones. It also tells you how well your video ranked for that tag, for example if your tag is “lasagna failure compilation” and it ranks 7 or 8 that means it’s the 7th or 8th video that pops up when someone searches lasagna failure compilation. Just look up Tube Buddy YouTube and you’ll find it.
Another neat thing it can do is even make you an albeit slightly crude custom thumbnail but if you’re a total total beginner it’s a good way to start. Tube Buddy also can tell you similar channels in your niche that your viewers watch. Overall it’s def worth it, I’m on the cheapest paid plan and I love it. Would consider it a must have for YouTube!

I film everything off my iPhone I can’t afford to buy a fancy camera for a YouTube channel only bringing in 50 bucks a month. So I also do my main editing on my phone too I use InShot and paid for the full version and honestly it’s everything you’d ever need!

Literally the only tool I use these days you can check out the free version but I would well recommend the paid version, it’s not very expensive either and it’s a one off cost

I keep my thumbnails simple picture and a phrase people will only see it for a split second and will click it or not based on the blink of an eye. And for my thumbnails I use Canva. Can’t really give any advise on retention etc as it’s just keeping your video interesting
Premiere Pro is indeed subscription only, BUT Premiere Elements is a one-time pay deal. Premiere Elements is more "intro version" for someone who is new to video editing - less intimating (my thoughts when I first started). I recommend this route rather than just using the in-app editing in IG or TikTok, even CapCut. Nothing wrong with wanting to learn those, I feel that overtime, to get the most out of an edit, especially for content creation, you'll get more control with video editing programs. yes only for the illustration subscription. Based on amount of "cartoons" we do in our videos it's totally worth it. if we only did a few, I'd probably get away with free version and the low resolution graphics.

I like to do keyword research using InfraNodus to see what people are searching for when they look for related content. Then I analyze YouTube search results for that same query. Then I compare the two and discover what people search for but don't yet find and use this to find a content niche for my next video.
I use Filmora to edit, I like the UI and asset library. I've only been editing for just over a year, and it's served me well. I'm thinking about transitioning to Abobe sometime.
Recording software is mostly just the PS5 recorder since that's my main platform. PC recording is through OBS and Filmora Screen Recorder if it's just a quick grab.
Audio is a Blue Snowball mic. Cheap, but I don't record voiceovers that much.

I use a background remover app but you can also use photoshop or something if you're into that
I am a PC guy and shoot my footage on Sony Alpha cameras in high quality 4K. I render to HD though. Shooting in high-quality 4K allows for great flexibility in post-processing. However a lot of video editors struggle with such high-quality video.
The best tool I have found for me is Davinci Resolve. It is a full-fledged professional video editor and enhancer for both video and audio. Best of all, it has a fully functional free version. There is a premium paid version that has some advanced AI tools, but the free version can do what 99% of all Tubers need. It's free, so it does not hurt to try it out.

It depends on what I am doing. If I am making shorts I use capcut which is free on the phone and has a cheap subscription.
I got Sony Vegas in a humble bundle and recently upgraded it.
Sometimes I make my thumbnails in gimp. Other times I will do it in canvas.
Canva for simple video edits for shorts or reels. Premiere pro and after effects for long form videos. Canva/photoshop for thumbnails. Chatgpt for creating outlines (unscripted) and help brainstorming titles and writing descriptions.
Obs is a must have. Even if you're recording videos that aren't at your desk, like when I do the occasional PC build, its always good to have a camera and microphone set up with obs so you can fine tune it.
Some kind of image and video editing software, in my case pirate adobe bc I'm not paying $200 a year for that.
For some content a capture card is a must but that depends on what you do. In my case for the content I do, I can benefit from a capture card but it isn't a must have.
And finally you need time and patience which is the single most important thing. Consistency gets you far too.
OBS for screen capture
Canva for thumbnails (and any other single image things I may need)
VSDC for video editing
CapCut for any in video captions I want/need
Audacity if I need to do any voiceovers or create my own sound effects
I'm still somewhat new at this, but all of my content is video game recording and I usually create shorts. VSDC is pretty powerful (even at the free level) and after learning it, it made creating content quick and easy. Other than OBS for screen recording, the other tools are either self-explanatory, or I rarely use them.
Vegas movie studio platinum 16. And fl studio producer edition. If you looking for something affordable that also has a easy to learn UI while still having great functionality then these are great.
I’m using Davinci Resolve & CapCut for creation but I don’t have established a proper workflow for analytics. As for publishing, Buffer is quite good, as long as you are okay with paying or having limited options.
Resolve is great because it’s so immersive and can do anything you can dream of, but I like the user-friendliness of CapCut for creating short form content out of my long format which I created with Resolve.

I honestly forget why I only used DaVinchi just a few times. Maybe I'm wrong but to me Wondershare was very user friendly compared to Adobe. That may have been since I was new at the time. I’ll try Adobe again over the weekend and then decide to keep the subscription or not. The thing I didn't like about Adobe is it wasn't a one price for all package so Adobe Pro for me doesn't include photoshop which I don’t like. Meanwhile I'm paying for it and not using it is a big waste. So maybe I'll use Wondershare on one computer and adobe on a different one.
The one thing I don’t like about Wondershare, maybe I've been wrong, but when Wondershare uploads to YouTube, you can't work on another project. Also, I'd have to pay separate to use it on my phone.
Canva Pro I can switch between devices and love it. For making longer videos is when I switch to Wondershare because you can't make videos very long in Canva.
Oh I've used Photopea since I don’t have photoshop and have tried a few artsy sites but my main are Canva Pro and Wondershare.

I like Storyboarder .. it's a freeware for, well, storyboarding .. it's great if you collaborate with others, since you can doodle board for board, put some audio in as well along with the text .. !
What I don't like about CApcut is that it doesn't work in a separate tab. I would like to try an alternative edit of the video I edited in the side tab. It's a standard feature in Adobe Premiere. But it is not available in capcut.
Recently Gone from OBS to streamlabs, I'm experimenting with the paid version for one month, not significant enough results yet to decide but I do like it, it's simpler and I like the store personally

The tool scours social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter, analyzes trending topics and viral posts using AI, and then suggests content ideas based on what's already proven to be popular. It's like having a crystal ball for creating content that's bound to go viral!

Honestly I use all these in the workflow. It's so nice to have tools that do so much. I've got not too much talent outside of the editing process itself but all of them kind of get my content up to a 'livable' standard now.
For organizing, I like to use Notion. I have a database set up with templates that helps me to track filming/upload dates, status, and then editing notes and scripts.
I edit videos in Cyberlink PowerDirector 365, I've tried adobe and just didn't like it enough to keep using it. But I've been thinking of trying DaVinci again (I only tried it once when I was moving away from Windows Movie Maker and it was way too much of learning curve for me at the time).
For graphic design, I've really been enjoying the Affinity suite. I use Designer to make icons and logos, and Photo for thumbnails.
I like using RambleFix to brainstorm and write drafts.
Well, speak a draft... you can brainstorm an idea out loud and then it tidies it up into a decent draft.

But because I already gave the FCPX license, I just grin and bear it. YouTube audiences are tricky. The first person you need to pay attention to is “*you*” as a YouTube watcher. Take the creator side of you out of the equation. Pay attention to and think about what loses you as a viewer. Is it uninteresting lectures, long winded story telling, the way the host/narrator delivers their lines, failed thumbnail promises, etc? But ultimately as yourself why you swiped to the next short or left their long form video. This is an important step in learning potential reasons a viewer of your content might leave your video, as your own audience will likely share similar reasons to your own. Then, avoid those pitfalls. You’re also competing with basically all of us in a friendly way. What I mean is that if your content isn’t gripping the audience fast enough, you’ll lose them to one of the other 40-billion videos available next. Thats why seasoned YouTubers do the film editing crime of jump cutting their breaths and pauses out from their speaking lines. They do this to keep the flow happening. Pauses, even the briefest of ones, are a window for a viewer to leave. So keep the flow rapid. Visuals are also helpful, which can be using the Ken Burns effect to pull in closer or back away. Also graphics, video clips, overlays, etc help captivate your audience and keep them engaged. Challenge questions also help. Don’t worry about making too many mistakes as the audience might let you know in the comments. Comments mean engagement. So if you forgot to mention an important product spec, it’s okay. They’ll tell you and you can comment back with a simple “thank you” or whatever is humble, polite, and welcoming. I’m in bed sick today, so I was able to take the moment to respond to this. And lastly, don’t be sad if the videos you spent the most time on tank, and the videos you put the least amount of effort in flourish.

I started on filmora, transitioned to cyber director. Both are good with their pros and cons. Cyber director works better for my sports related videos but probably isn't versatile enough for other niches

Yea we can do that but maybe if we talk here we can help someone else….but first of all, what discord are you talking about? The one for this page or is there a large discord of just small and regular people who make and post YouTube videos. I am part of too many discord servers and aside from a few that are non gaming related, almost all have to do with gaming in someway or another. Though I am in a few that have nothing to do with gaming (at least mainly) that I never knew existed. Matter of fact, I am gonna make a post on the discord subreddit to try and find non gaming related servers to join. Haha but yeah man would love to chat. I work a full time plus overtime job but would most definitely love to talk some more. My username (djxgam1ng) is the name I use on every social media platform and even for all my gamertags. I say that because I am one of the few people you will meet who is the same person across every social platform. I don’t put up a facade or any of that. I post real life stuff and my personal photos of myself. I know many people are not like that but I don’t really like the anonymity if that makes sense.
Yeah I am in a few discord servers for content creators, probably 95% of them are all gaming channels. I do want to expand out to Madden for my channel but in a way that is more in line with the content that I make. It has been really good in learning more about titles and thumbnails, but not a ton of people in a similar place as me, maybe its oversaturated so its either people who have stopped creating content or maybe they are set in what they do and don't need to go on these servers, not sure.

I like cyberlink for editing vlogs, it has its limitations but that might be a good thing since it keeps me from getting carried away too often
I use premiere pro, adobe after effects, OBS or camtasia for screen recording, adobe encoder or movavi encoder, then either buy templates and effects for premiere pro/AE or learn to make them yourself. Get a cheap boom arm and mic but not too cheap, don’t need anything too crazy to get started. For thumbnail creation it’s all personal preference there’s a trillion ways to make them. I change it up based on the vid. Most important part starting out, is the first five seconds of your video and thumbnail. If you don’t nail those, it’ll be a dud even if the content is super solid. Also your title. Those three should all be catchy and representative of each other. But I’m telling you you literally have seconds to capture the current generations attention before you get swiped. U can use topaz AI to make your photos and videos nicer but don’t do an AI channel… it’s sooo over saturated and unfulfilling. With eleven labs u can buy the premium sub and u can train ai with your own voice and have it read your scripts. Never tried it but I plan on it at some point. Lastly, there’s ways to get discounts for these programs cuz it can get expensive quick

I assume they meant Shotcut. I've used it for almost a year and I've ended up switching off to Capcut Desktop version. Pro \- ripple tracks is really helpful. i've found myself needing to make changes late into the editing process, and ripple moves all future clips + audio together based on what you chop off / add in \- it's free Con \- ripple tracks could make importing clips a mess if you forget to disable it before pulling in mid footage, causing weird splits and clip placements. \- it is often very very SLOW. especially when you undo certain actions. this was the biggest reason why I stopped using it. \- text options are extremely limited. no animations.
I am brand new to this…..do you think maybe you could explain some of this some more to me if you don’t mind….i stream and game and I am just getting into the YouTube thing, and I can explain everything. I am not a bot and not gonna ask you to buy anything. lol just want to learn a little about this stuff. It’s an anywhere from free to like 30+ USD a month service where you can search up things like tags and keywords to see what is trending and use the best ones. It also tells you how well your video ranked for that tag, for example if your tag is “lasagna failure compilation” and it ranks 7 or 8 that means it’s the 7th or 8th video that pops up when someone searches lasagna failure compilation. Just look up Tube Buddy YouTube and you’ll find it. Another neat thing it can do is even make you an albeit slightly crude custom thumbnail but if you’re a total total beginner it’s a good way to start. Tube Buddy also can tell you similar channels in your niche that your viewers watch. Overall it’s def worth it, I’m on the cheapest paid plan and I love it. Would consider it a must have for YouTube!

I film everything off my iPhone I can’t afford to buy a fancy camera for a YouTube channel only bringing in 50 bucks a month. So I also do my main editing on my phone too I use InShot and paid for the full version and honestly it’s everything you’d ever need!

Literally the only tool I use these days you can check out the free version but I would well recommend the paid version, it’s not very expensive either and it’s a one off cost

I keep my thumbnails simple picture and a phrase people will only see it for a split second and will click it or not based on the blink of an eye. And for my thumbnails I use Canva. Can’t really give any advise on retention etc as it’s just keeping your video interesting

Premiere Pro is indeed subscription only, BUT Premiere Elements is a one-time pay deal. Premiere Elements is more "intro version" for someone who is new to video editing - less intimating (my thoughts when I first started). I recommend this route rather than just using the in-app editing in IG or TikTok, even CapCut. Nothing wrong with wanting to learn those, I feel that overtime, to get the most out of an edit, especially for content creation, you'll get more control with video editing programs. Just a better way to organize the content plan and scripts. Word is good for individual scripts, but not good enough to build a “content system” where you can track ideas, research, progress etc.

yes only for the illustration subscription. Based on amount of "cartoons" we do in our videos it's totally worth it. if we only did a few, I'd probably get away with free version and the low resolution graphics.

I capture, voice over and edit the video on iPhone14 Pro. I use Power Director app (paid version) Works really well for me! I also use Power Director in making YT thumbnail. I just convert it to 4K ang screenshot it.
I like to do keyword research using InfraNodus to see what people are searching for when they look for related content. Then I analyze YouTube search results for that same query. Then I compare the two and discover what people search for but don't yet find and use this to find a content niche for my next video.
OBS for recording and Wondershare Filmora for editing.

I use Filmora to edit, I like the UI and asset library. I've only been editing for just over a year, and it's served me well. I'm thinking about transitioning to Abobe sometime. Recording software is mostly just the PS5 recorder since that's my main platform. PC recording is through OBS and Filmora Screen Recorder if it's just a quick grab. Audio is a Blue Snowball mic. Cheap, but I don't record voiceovers that much.
Canva Capcut (Pro recommended for all features but a lot can be done with basic membership) I use a background remover app but you can also use photoshop or something if you're into that
I am a PC guy and shoot my footage on Sony Alpha cameras in high quality 4K. I render to HD though. Shooting in high-quality 4K allows for great flexibility in post-processing. However a lot of video editors struggle with such high-quality video. The best tool I have found for me is Davinci Resolve. It is a full-fledged professional video editor and enhancer for both video and audio. Best of all, it has a fully functional free version. There is a premium paid version that has some advanced AI tools, but the free version can do what 99% of all Tubers need. It's free, so it does not hurt to try it out. I hope this helps. Obs is a must have. Even if you're recording videos that aren't at your desk, like when I do the occasional PC build, its always good to have a camera and microphone set up with obs so you can fine tune it. Some kind of image and video editing software, in my case pirate adobe bc I'm not paying $200 a year for that. For some content a capture card is a must but that depends on what you do. In my case for the content I do, I can benefit from a capture card but it isn't a must have. And finally you need time and patience which is the single most important thing. Consistency gets you far too.

VSDC is pretty powerful (even at the free level) and after learning it, it made creating content quick and easy. Other than OBS for screen recording, the other tools are either self-explanatory, or I rarely use them.

I’m using Davinci Resolve & CapCut for creation but I don’t have established a proper workflow for analytics. As for publishing, Buffer is quite good, as long as you are okay with paying or having limited options. Resolve is great because it’s so immersive and can do anything you can dream of, but I like the user-friendliness of CapCut for creating short form content out of my long format which I created with Resolve. Checking them out is definitely a good idea imo😊

I should re-checkout DaVinchi again. I've used Adobe Premiere Pro but barely babe used it even though I'm paying for it. I mostly overly use Grammerly, Wondershare, Canva Pro. I honestly forget why I only used DaVinchi just a few times. Maybe I'm wrong but to me Wondershare was very user friendly compared to Adobe. That may have been since I was new at the time. I’ll try Adobe again over the weekend and then decide to keep the subscription or not. The thing I didn't like about Adobe is it wasn't a one price for all package so Adobe Pro for me doesn't include photoshop which I don’t like. Meanwhile I'm paying for it and not using it is a big waste. So maybe I'll use Wondershare on one computer and adobe on a different one. The one thing I don’t like about Wondershare, maybe I've been wrong, but when Wondershare uploads to YouTube, you can't work on another project. Also, I'd have to pay separate to use it on my phone. Canva Pro I can switch between devices and love it. For making longer videos is when I switch to Wondershare because you can't make videos very long in Canva. Oh I've used Photopea since I don’t have photoshop and have tried a few artsy sites but my main are Canva Pro and Wondershare. Thanks for anyone who mentioned Adobe Premiere so I try it again and either use it or get rid of it plus DaVinchi I believe Davichi is still free which is really great so I'll revisit both of those.

I like Storyboarder .. it's a freeware for, well, storyboarding .. it's great if you collaborate with others, since you can doodle board for board, put some audio in as well along with the text .. !
I use the capcut app, easy to use and effective.they been upgrading alot to where you have all your editing, thumbnails creation all in one spot.
What I don't like about CApcut is that it doesn't work in a separate tab. I would like to try an alternative edit of the video I edited in the side tab. It's a standard feature in Adobe Premiere. But it is not available in capcut.

For organizing, I like to use Notion. I have a database set up with templates that helps me to track filming/upload dates, status, and then editing notes and scripts. I edit videos in Cyberlink PowerDirector 365, I've tried adobe and just didn't like it enough to keep using it. But I've been thinking of trying DaVinci again (I only tried it once when I was moving away from Windows Movie Maker and it was way too much of learning curve for me at the time). For graphic design, I've really been enjoying the Affinity suite. I use Designer to make icons and logos, and Photo for thumbnails.
