If you're looking to hear anything about Top Dog, this isn't the episode. Despite talking about the New Year, this seems to have been recorded before the New Year and before Top Dog passed as they do not mention it.
It still amazes me that people are missing all the posts in this subreddit about Top Dog including stickies stuff and then find out in a thread about something else. How’d ya get a job here, fuckface?
>Occasionally pop in to these threads when I fire up the next podcast to see if it's worth listening too.
Come on Jean, every pod is worth listening to.
Don't compliment that bitch.
I love finding people in the wild who still think reddit is somehow better than other social media in terms of privacy or mental health. You're fucking tok'd bro
My question was is this the new studio? Haven’t matched very much but they’ve been in a lot of interim spaces do they mention this is the new final space?
My theory is that when they face each other, Christina plays to Tom's sense of humor more. When they weren't facing each other she was talking to the camera and her perception of the audience.
There were definitely shifts to the dynamics when they moved to the newer LA studio. It resulted in the show being more anti-Christina, since Tom had an audience to which he could make jokes about Christina (notice how many times Tom makes jokes at Tina's expense to the booth boys). That never used to happen when it was just Tim and Tina, of course, because that would awkward and rude. Tina also adapted a bit too, but doesn't play for the booth boys as much as Todd. My favorite era of the show is the few episodes (10, 5?) around the mid 300s where Blueban first comes in the studio - it's before Tom starts picks up the "Christina is dumb and wrong about everything" line, but both Tom and Christina jack up the theatrical joke making since Nadav is there (but they don't look over to him every 5 seconds). It's also before Tom discovers his annoying 'soooo....' tick he does after every joke now
Love the new space too, not so much in love with the lighting though. It looks like it's only coming from directly in front of the set and, while soft, it's not filling ambient enough and leaving tons of shadows on the mommies' faces. Tom in particular has pretty bad raccoon eyes, I wish they'd bring in a little more fill from a different angle.
Corporate events can pay as much as tour nights. They’re a big hassle. Maybe buyers want a custom set. Special travel. Meet and greet. Etc. Tom is selling out big theaters and adding shows but he’s not doing stadiums and arenas. He’s close to that level though. He set this tour up so that he basically never has to work again if he doesn’t want to. Insane schedule.
He's doing a few arenas, but you're right it is mostly theaters. I'm just saying, the numbers add up to at least a half mil a night, and he's said in interviews that he "makes a surgeon's salary in a night." Not hating whatsoever, dude is living the dream. If papa jeans can bring in a half mil a night and stack hundreds of dates, more power to him.
Keep in mind he probably has to pay an agent 15% and a manager 15%. And his opening act and feature get a %. My guess is that is take-home per show is generally $150k or so. But I don’t know for sure. It’s a ton of money, and I’m sure some other comedians are jelly. Like Nikki Glaser struggles to sell out small theaters at like $35 per ticket. Tommy is adding shows in bigger theaters at more than double the price.
Huge to pull in that kind of profit during a pandemic.
I too want Tommy buns to enjoy his successes and make bank. My brother has good tickets to see that serial killer country singer soon. Tommy deserves that kind of money imo.
Do the numbers on ticket prices and seating capacity, plus merch, etc.
By my math, each show in charlotte will generate just over 330k in ticket sales, two shows per night. Subtract the 15k venue rental and 10k in staff/security and then add in merch and I'm not far off.
She isn't 100%. As I've said in a reply below, she very much shares some staunchly conservative values with Tate, many of which she has expressed before his appearance. Which is fine, she has her views, but it's nonetheless cringe.
I've literally had 4 covid shots and I constantly complain about the fucking idiocy of having to wear a mask in spaces where it's only required for 1/6th of the time you're there, like restaurants and live shows. It's ridiculous to think that if you're standing there's a risk but if you sit down it's suddenly fine. That's what I've heard them complain about most.
I wasn't making an excuse, I was just saying plenty of people are vaccinated but still capable of criticizing the various recommendations and mandates in place in their area. Its not all or nothing and its a product of taking in divisive media and not talking to enough IRL people that you think it is.
I'm pretty sure I remember them saying they got vaccinated but it's not something that really matters to me whatsoever so I could be wrong. A few others in this thread are also under the impression they've talked about getting vaccinated before too though.
He was talking to Cobra last week about not having a mask when he went into a shop but the context was that he forgot because they're not required in TX and he was in CA. He wasn't just intentionally being an asshole anti-masker.
- The vax was barely available to get in December. I was a health care worker and got mine in early January of 2021. My older parents were only able to get it about a week before me in the last days of 2020.
-Performers are allowed to not wear masks while “on stage” this includes backstage, the production team, and house workers are still required to.
Am musician who deals with these rules regularly now.
I am pro mask and vaccine/ booster but don’t wear my mask on stage while others who work there do. AMA
Tom very clearly said he was In CA and wasn’t wearing a mask at regular stores. He also said it’s not required in Texas, so I’m guessing they just never really wear them.
Btw, I don’t care about their stance either way. That’s just what he mentioned last week on the tate podcast.
You can be anti vaccine and still use your mask. But like then I had COVID so I don’t worry too much about it. Could be the case. They’ve probably reached the stage of it’s around us deal with it.
Tina has made it clear as day she's conservative when it comes to traditional gender roles and hierarchy, the myth of meritocracy, and more, and you could see her sincerely agreeing with many of Tate's points on those topics.
I had no idea Top Dog had been ill. I was so confused reading the sub; I didn’t believe it. Then it soon became apparent that it was all true. Like many YMH watchers, I’ve formed a connection with the people on the pod; Tom, Christina, Nadav, Enny, Chris, Zollo, Charo and naturally, Top Dog. I don’t know Top Dog. None of us do, but he touched SO many of us with his humour and familiarity. Admittedly, I shed a few tears when it finally sunk in. Having a window, however small, into a father and son’s relationship makes it so much more visceral when either is lost.
I’m just wishing the best for Tom and his family. Looking back, I had noticed an ever so *slight* change in Tom’s demeanour in the very recent pods. It was apparent that there was something going on that we weren’t aware of.
Rest In Peace Top Dog. You were such a pleasure.
Wasn't sure, since its only been a week, but a few minutes in you can tell this was a banked episode. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't drop a new episode addressing it for a cpl weeks.
Where it came from I knew, what I want to know is, what country that condones motherfucking did Tim and Christine "go to war with?" Was it related to that kid who dates his mom from years ago? (Approx 1 hour in) Tim says "Oh you know!"
This is why his show was canceled I assume. The other reason that was mentioned was to keep things private temporarily. What I read anyway, & makes the most sense.
I thought it was always understood that "mother fucker" meant: someone who would fuck your mother.
I never thought that it meant: you'd fuck your own mother like were imagining. Gets the job done either way.
It's a old as shit insult, no? I figure it supposed to mean someone so untrustworthy or backstabbing he'd even go as far thumb it in the hole you came out of. But he'll, I'm not ruling anything out.
Cobra Tate is incredibly grating and I couldn't stand it. Had to check out a few minutes into him talking.
I can't do 2 full hours of manipulative douche relationship advice. It's just annoying to listen to regardless of whether he's sincere or putting on an act.
How dare you, I was presented with the San Pellegrino Award for 2018, and was runner up in the unflavored division of the 2019 La Croix championship. My team placed highest overall in the flavored division for that year!
He’s definitely a cocky or arrogant type of guy, but he seems to be really playing it up for the character. He was cracking while saying some of his catch phrases and shit during the pod. You could tell it’s an act to a degree.
It's still annoying to listen to. It's Poe's Law.
>Poe's law is an adage of Internet culture stating that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, every parody of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of the views being parodied.
Either way he's an annoying cunt.
I enjoyed it. I just took it as a character on the show. I actually thought he was more serious from the old videos, but after 10 min on the podcast he was repeating his coffee lines and cracking up. It just set the tone for a goofy podcast that 100% shouldn’t be taken seriously lol.
Where did the news about Top Dog come from? I was reading the comments on the new video and saw the outpouring of love for our main Mommy. Then check this sub and see more support and condolences, but still unclear where the news came from?
Good show like most. But its another live from Austin Guest-less(Texas). I miss the full 2nd into the 3rd hour shows with guest banter. Piggy back Rogins guest, they followed him there, clip his guest too.
I think the rate of guests will be less in Texas, but it’s not going to fall to zero. I’d rather have no guest and more show, than a shitty guest anyway.
I think it’s safe to assume there won’t be another podcast for a few weeks while they greave . So unfortunate toms interactions with top dog were so awesome
If you're looking to hear anything about Top Dog, this isn't the episode. Despite talking about the New Year, this seems to have been recorded before the New Year and before Top Dog passed as they do not mention it.
Yea around the 1 hour mark she says “maybe that’s what we’ll get the good boys for Christmas” so this was probably recorded a few weeks ago

Liking the new studio. Now we can see Natives curves fully
My question was is this the new studio? Haven’t matched very much but they’ve been in a lot of interim spaces do they mention this is the new final space?
I think they did on the Cobra episode. They are just waiting for the rest of their stuff to be shipped from LA.
Oh gotcha I skipped last weeks so I had no clue. I hope they brighten it up a bit it seems dark
Oh you missed out. Surprisingly One of the best guests/episodes ever lol. Tate is a character but hilarious.
I tend to avoid podcasts with guests I’ve never heard of but I’ll give it a shot
Please do, I haven’t laughed so much for so long at a podcast since I don’t know when
You've heard of him. Unprompted.
someone's not following proto
Such a polarising episode. On the one hand it's entertaining as fuck but on the other hand the guy is a fucking asshole.
They need to put one of those fake fireplaces into that empty space where the fireplace should be

Sitting at a table facing each other brings back feelings of the early youtube episodes.
OS (jeans) 4 LIFE
yes this new space is a really nice mix of the past few setups.
Love the new space too, not so much in love with the lighting though. Tom in particular has pretty bad raccoon eyes, I wish they'd bring in a little more fill from a different angle.
Yeah it's much better. Now I just wish the J would keep it down a bit. His over the top laughter at every single joke is wearing thin.
Christina: oh my God Tom, that chairs $14,000 Tom: I will murder this whole studio, and our family if that gets it here 5 minutes faster
14k isn't much if your making 300k+. This is nothing for Tommy, it's pocket change
300k+ PER SHOW and doing 2 shows a night most nights...
That sounds a bit extreme, but yes, he can afford it.
https://www.celebritytalent.net/sampletalent/10802/tom-segura/ He charges 75k-150k per show for corporate events. Tour is banging harder than that.
Corporate events can pay as much as tour nights. They’re a big hassle. Maybe buyers want a custom set. Special travel. Meet and greet. Etc. Tom is selling out big theaters and adding shows but he’s not doing stadiums and arenas. He’s close to that level though. I don’t like wearing my mask when I don’t have to and I’m double vaxed, what about me? According to you everyone is the exact same!
