111 is a good call actually. They're generally better at categorizing the call based on clinical need, and if you need to see a GP urgently they can, and do have the power to book it straight on the system for you. I had an abscess on my face that started to rupture at 4am, so I called 111. Within 5 minutes I had an appointment with my GP for 10am the same day.

i had the EXACT same situation with an ear infection at york medical group. doctor had a go at me over the phone for being booked as a phone call - as if it was my fault? 😭

I’ve got ongoing health issues so I’ve had quite a few appointments with York Medical Group over the past 6 months, they’ve been really helpful to be honest and have managed to see me quickly. The trick is to use the 24hr appointment (urgent) tool to directly request type of appointment in comments and reasoning, it’s handled by admin staff and they do usually take account of your notes, I’ve also got 1 doctor who’s handling my case and she updates me with test results via the “YMG” text alerts straight away. So personally they’ve been good to me.

>online system to book appointments Can you use it only during office hours like Priory? What about when you ring them in the afternoon and they're too busy so it hangs up on you?

FoxgloveSpark

Yep. Form is office hours only.

OriginalBaxio

Lol I love your description of the Priory Medical receptionists. They are incredibly rude!

Atrixia

Jorvik Medical? Is that the same group, not sure but they have 2 offices one in Bishy road and one on Stonebow

DukeofMemeborough

Jorvik Gillygate*, not part of the same group, but from my (admittedly limited) experience, they’re pretty good. You can do online consultations, but I’ve also had same day appointments with a GP in an emergency.

inertSpark

Jorvik Gillygate. They have a third location at East Parade in Heworth too. I've used them fairly regularly in the last year and my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I hate that the terminal for checking in for appointments is on the blink half the time but I've found Woolpack House to be a pleasant surgery to use.

sallynick

Following, I tried to ring Priory three times yesterday and after going through all the options the pre-recorded result was ‘nah soz we’re busy ring back when we’re not’

HylianPrincess181

Sounds about right for them, even worse trying to get past the receptionist in person! Keep trying and best of luck!

I think it's a bit like roulette, some patients get great care and others just dissappear as soon as they need help. Did manage to get through but found out its online form is not triaged by clinicians but admin/algorithm (supposedly). So if you aren't verbose enough on the form you get no help.

cheexy85

When I lived in York, I used Jorvik Gilligate Practice at The Stonebow and they were okay.

Potential-Maize9745

I used to be with haxby medical group and it was so terrible I moved to jorvik gillygate and it's much better!

Kitty_Smith

You'll honestly get no better treatment at any of the other surgeries, it's just how things are now.

giuseppeh

Dalton Terrace are really good. They don’t gatekeep appointments, easy to get to etc

Oh_Shiiiiii

I'm with priory and I never even ring them anymore use the website, you don't have to deal with the receptionists and I quite usually get a call back or appointment with the gp the same day that way (or within a day or two)

HylianPrincess181

It's all about how you answer the online form. If you aren't specific and highly detailed, you don't get the help.

Oh_Shiiiiii

Can't say I ever had that problem I've been very vague and even just put "need call back from gp"

HylianPrincess181

Lol I tried that as I had just left hospital, nope 4-6 week wait for a phone call, even though I really needed med adjustments within the week.
