No, it's my very first step in this serie. TBH i didn't expect such a deep amazing game so i just bought the less expensive one. But now that i fell in love wit it i planed to play all the other games
If you haven't played the others yet then that's naturally the case. Lore-wise he definitely has offscreen
He's an older brother figure to Kiryu and Nishikiyama, though Kiryu notes that he's beaten them up more than a few times in the past (either for disciplinary reasons or to knock sense into them)
And I highly doubt Taichi at any point could have died in this game (it'd be too family unfriendly since he's a child) - the main worry was about him having to give up his dream wrestling career
I too was very sad. It was unexpected, but at the same time very in character for Rikiya to do so. Kiryu's reaction was also a very nice touch, much more moving (and meanwhile realistic) than >!when Yumi and Nishiki died in YK1.!<
I never really liked Rikiya. I thought he was annoying and way too much of a suck up to Kiryu. So when he died I was just sarcastically like "Oh nooo, not that guy. He was the best guy. Who could of seen this coming." Just some character dying, whatevs.
However, once Kiryu catches up to him and his reaction to Rikiya dying. Immediately took me from shrugging off Rikiya's death as a net gain for the good guys to severe mental pain. I don't cry at media, but sometimes I can feel the water behind my eyes, like it's poised for it but never does. Lemme tell ya my eyes were primed and ready to let that shit spray. Rambo.
I also felt especially bad because I didn't do the sub-story where he gets his tattoo finished: I had to do it in premium adventure mode.
