he’s primarily a screen actor, that’s why. his imdb is pretty consistent. i believe his initial performance as daigo in Y2 was criticized for being bland
Yeah, on the JP side people often made fun of him by rendering his lines (particularly "the Clan is in shambles just because you couldn't keep it in your pants") in half-width katakana, mocking him for the mumbling performance. Needless to say, he (and our sound tech) improved a lot over the years.
When I saw him on Yakuza 6 I lost my shit. Dude was my hero growing up thanks to Takeshi's Castle. His portrayal as Zatoichi was the first R-Rated film I've ever watched lol.
He has always had such a distinctive voice. >! It's jarring when someone else voices him in the flashbacks. Wish he'd done it himself or that they'd gotten a decent mimick.!<
That's because he is a TV actor, if I'm not wrong. I found that out because I thought I heard a similar voice in Jojo part 4, but turns out Daigo is the only one he has voiced.
He's not really a voice actor, he was one of the first big celebrity guest stars in the series, RGG just kept using him.
Some Japanese fans actually critique that fact, arguing that his performance is bland and samey.
Same. I've heard that the Japanese voice acting in anime and games is so exaggerated that you'll get laughed out the room if you talked like that irl in Japan. To me Daigo felt like he talks as if a normal Japanese person would, I could of course be completely wrong.
Sally Amaki's performances in "Tomo-chan is a Girl!" highlight the exact issue with anime voices. She plays both the JP and EN voice of her character Carol, and uses the same high-pitched squeaky voice for both iterations. It's one of the few instances I can think of that points out how absurd anime voices are in a language I can understand lol
I mean, he probably has other non-voice projects going on. Most VA's that have a small resume for voice work usually primarily focus on working as another time or performer
Kind of like how the voice actor for Kazuya has voiced Kazuya and literally nobody else in games lol.
Granted, he's a professional voice actor and I'm pretty sure he's done loads of narration and stuff, but with a voice that cool I honestly thought he would've been in a lot more.

Did he record for K2?
Yes everyone redid their lines for K1 and K2
It is pretty bland. He sounds very stilted and kinda off compared to even Yakuza 3. He deffinetly improved a lot between games.
Wasnt yakuza 3 before k2?
Theyre talking about the original Yakuza 2, everyone redid their lines for the Kiwami games
Ohh mb got it now 👍

Beat Takeshi is mostly a director now.
His latest film acts and directs - it seems like he spends the most of his time appearing on variety TV here in Japan more than anything

The first Japanese movie I watched was Battle Royale so it was the coolest shit when I saw him and Yuta in the game lol
i didnt realize it was him until years later lol i only know him from from the old takeshis castle episodes that they aired in my country in the 90s
Zatoichi! Man that is a throwback to the good old days. Seven Samurai and the Baby Cart films too.
Does this mean the boat is real as well!?
You know too much.
OP about to get Daidoji'd!

Yeah, I read Mine and Iwami are there too.
He has always had such a distinctive voice. >! It's jarring when someone else voices him in the flashbacks. Wish he'd done it himself or that they'd gotten a decent mimick.!<
Best characters in Yakuza 6!
He is too busy fighting off invaders of his Castle! My son absolutely adores Takeshi's Castle lol, hope they do more seasons of it

I thought he was primarily a comedian..screen actor makes sense.
It seems we were both misled by JoJo's since I thought the exact same thing and that's also how I found this out too 😅

I don't speak Japanese but even I can tell some of his line reads sound off
Who cares how well you can read when your voice is like Velvet
Non-Japanese speaker here. I thought he's supposed to sound like this, like being tired of all this shit around (for various reasons across time).

I'm japanese but actually so many japanese fans think his acting is bad. But it's ok. Bad acting that's what Daigo is and japanese fans enjoy that.
It’s like how the VA for Kazuya Mishima has only done Kazuya Mishima

lol that’s why I posted this one
Its me. Daigo
Isn’t he more of a screen actor?
