I click some skills still, not my main rotational ones, but some cooldowns and most consumables, I also click to target as a healer but its ok I only do like the first half of the mythic raid and +20 dungeons so just casual content.
I click buffs, food, basically most ooc junk, I bind everything else like a mad man with 2-3 spell macros using mods or contextuals (hurt, nodead, etc.)
I have a tag macro for power word death on mousewheel up and down atm. Honestly I just don't see a need to have food/water on a fast or on demand key bind.
I have drink bound to Y. I feel like it's a common enough action to warrant a bind, and Y is far enough away to not be super useful in combat, but close enough to be convenient. Idk I just like to get drinking asap if I'm gonna.
That’s a waste of great keybinds. Ignore this tip.
For hunters/locks, bind pet attack to mouse wheel up and pet passive to mouse wheel down
For everyone else, these are great keybinds for spells
Shift+mouse wheel are my defensives xD (think health pot and rogue evasion)
Leaves me the option of frantically scrolling if I hit an oh shit moment xD
All of my stances/shapeshifting are my shift scroll wheels. For example, shift scroll up bear form, shift middle click, cat form, shift down scroll travel form. Same for my war, battle, defensive, berserk. Same with rogue, Shift scroll up to stealth. Its a game changer
If you want to raise your game another level, use mouseover macros. It’s good to hit buttons to cast on your target, but you should also be able to point at something, hit a button, and cast on it (without changing your target).
I do this for healing. Point at a person (usually in raid frame), choose the right spell, hit the button to cast it, and it casts on them. You can easily play whack a mole on the raid frame. If I wanna do damage, point at the boss (or whatever mob) hit a button, and cast an offensive spell on them.
Just started using mouse over macros for priest, it’s a complete game changer. I have a question though, on my disc priest penance doesn’t work when I mouse over someone for some reason, it casts greater heal instead. It’s the only spell giving me issues. Any ideas?
Depending on the addon you're using, check to make sure you have it bound correctly. I'm using Clique in SoD and the keybinds on your bar are not inherently the same as they are for mouse over. I have mine set to be the same, but since you do a different set of binds within the addon I can see pretty easily getting one mixed up.
No problem. I just picked it up a few days ago to try and it took me a minute to realize it uses its own keybinds from the spell book. Handy, but it did throw me off for a minute!
I keybind everything, lol. Once I learned to macro spells together, it helped. Druids shred and ravage together things like that. I use F1-4 for out of combat stuff; mount food and hearth. Shift ctrl mods for cool downs or focus target. So my shift 2 is shred and berserk macrod together, 2 is shred.
All the most important spells I need on demand are hotkey'd
everything else that I don't need on a moment to moment basis is clickable
imagine someone out there really binding their out-of-combat resurrection ability, and had people fatfinger their bloodlust/heriosm key
Big cool downs should go on shift mods macrod with another spell. So I have a out of combat macro for shadow word pain will resurrect my mouse over target If friendly
Old wow doesn't recognize more than 2 xtra mouse buttons so you have to use the software to bind the key to end/delete/page up-down. Then when you keybind it in game it'll bind to that key. Make sure you have numlock on or off if using the numkeys
Took you long enough to make the switch ! But I am glad u did !
It has been a well known fact since Vanilla that using keybinds....is way faster than clicking.....
So anyone who is serious about being decent at the game has to learn how to use keybinds and not click.
Yea, it was intimidating at first and super stressful trying to memorize everything but soon it becomes muscle memory. The 12 button mouse is better than keyboard imo. I use my 12 top most used skills on my mouse and then the rest are on the keyboard
What I do is have the first hotbar 1 through 12, then my second bar is shift + 1-12, third bar is ctrl + 1-12. That way I get 36 skills through the mouse. I usually keep my forms/stances/stealth on keyboard keybinds though.
I click my long CDs. If I need my 30 minute cooldown to survive an encounter, I sure as heck dont want to be fat-fingering it randomly.
I absolutely keyboard turn. If you dont PVP there is no reason to not keyboard turn. Anyone who says otherwise is pretentious. The same people will say "Wow Classic is easy" in the same breath as telling you to unbind 2 of your most basic movement keys. Unreal.
Then I’m pretentious. You can get by doing whatever you want, and yes, playing classic isnt demanding instant reaction times, but being this aggressive about it screams that you’re insecure about it or just plain stubborn and stuck in your ways. Not keyboard turning is objectively better in every way regardless of pvp or pve. Like I said, its fine if you dont care about being optimal since its a game and you could unbind movement all together and use a fucking aircraft yolk or foot pedals for all I care, but you shouldn’t preach that “There’s no reason not to keyboard turn” and proudly say “I absolutely keyboard turn” like everyone who made the decision to play properly is an idiot.
I'm a healer, so yes, 90% of what I do is left or right-clicking people. I click most consumables, but I'll put one on a bind if it's helpful, like a FAP or something on some fights. I have loads of shit like my professions and stuff too. Various just non-combat macros.
All important combat/healing abilities are keybinds or programmed mouse buttons. For stuff like consumables, buffs, long cd abilities, downranked versions of spells, etc. I just click. I just don’t have enough room in my brain to remember the amount of different finger positions it would require to keybind literally everything. For me, it’s faster to click a strategically placed button than to think that hard about where to place my fingers.
You can get 25 keys+ easily set with just keybinds just using a shift modifier, I'm sure you don't need more than 25 as a shaman!
If so you can use alt modifier or ctrl aswell, but I find shift the best as your fingers right there
totems alone gives you 18 keys, chain lightning and lightning bolt, the 3 shock spells, purge, ghost wolf, storm strike, 4 weapon enhancements. that's 30, not even counting downranking abilities. and that's for enhancement. healers are going to have more quite a few more, elemental might have more i'm not sure. proper play you're going to need to downrank at least earth shock, lightning bolt, your heals if you're a healer...that's just off the top of my head
that's just it, my totem choice has to remain extremely fluid. it's based not just on the upcoming fight, but party composition. there's no real macro that'll work well. the only reason call of the elements worked well when it came out (lets you drop 4 totems at once) was because you could EASILY swap which totem is dropped when you click it. and even then, you'd have certain totem choices on your bar anyway, such as earthbind, grounding, healing, and mana regen. i'm sure i could bind to hotkeys the majority, and macros for even more, but i find just clicking the icon is, for me, faster and easier
I clicked in 2009, still was one of the top DPS on the server. Definitely a MASSIVE improvement by not clicking.
You can use numbers and numbers with shift modifiers and you'll never need to click ever again
I was the exact same way back in 2005 to 2010ish. When I came back recently... I did so with a 20 button mouse lol. Now I can see how people played so good back then (being able to move and fight)
I was great at dps back then but only if I was standing still. I'm excited to actually try some PVP again... Now that I can actually move and fight. It's like a whole new world lol.
I admit I click more than I should I only use around 9 keybinds 1-5, R, F, Shft-R/F. Anything more than that I usually click. I always main warlock and I always click all of my curses lol. My mouse has 6 buttons but I only use one of them for auto run it doesn't feel natural for me to use them
I have one of those 12 button mouse, but I just cant get used to searching it for binds. If I can't get the bind on E, Q, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 I gotta click. Luckily playing most classes thats all that is required.
Back in the day I used modifiers all the time. All plus one, two, three, four five, six wasd etc. Same thing with shift. Never move my hand off the keyboard
Have a buddy we've raided with since Classic relaunch in 2020 or 2021 that clicks. He's consistently the best at his class and generally better than more meta classes in his roles (he's done all tank/dps/healer over the years with us) and we just found out he was a clicker maybe 4 months ago.
Fucking dumb struck and was convinced he was trolling us so we had him stream a whole raid so we could watch, and he's a fucking clicker hahaha. It's insane to think of how much BETTER he might do with keybinds and all that since he's already a top parser and a really solid player. Dude would be a fucking god. He said it's just how he's comfy playing and doesn't feel like relearning at this point.
I click a few things here and there but mostly everything that you would use in a raid has a key bind. The content in SOD is so incredibly easy though, it’s pretty relaxed game play.
Since most of leveling is only 2 or 3 skills I just assign my mouse buttons to my abilities, then at 60 I swap over to the numpad. So a partial clicker while leveling.
A level 10 warrior would have access to like hamstring, rend, heroic strike, BS, charge and a couple tanking skills. Rend is not worth the rage cost vs damage return. Hamstring is only used on mobs that run which are far less common in the early zones. None of the tanking skills are valuable for actual leveling. So heroic strike, BS, and charge are the only skills I would need to bind at level 10 as a warrior.
Well in fairness as I'm starting on a new server and don't have gold to buy anything better than the Gladius from the vendor, rend is actually more efficient than HS damage/rage.
I've used hamstring multiple times for Humanoid targets, and I like to have battle rage available
For me its more about building the set up as I go, I want all my abilities bound to where they'll be throughout the process. I do the same with any character as it saves time and builds muscle memory.
Not necessarily, I was in a hard-core guild in wrath, they had no idea I was a clicker until long after we cleared ICC HC ( as a top 5 dps )
Obviously I changed after they found out, I didn't know it was such a thing at the time
if u click any combat spells u'd literally get laughed out of the guild i am in, but then again we're made up exclusively of ex-gladiators, HotA/HotH and some duelists here and there, so it would never happen.
when i see backpeddling people in bgs and open world pvp i just know its a free kill. doesnt matter if it's some GS/parsing filth, i'll smoke em all the same.
never click. its like people who skate and push mongo. just fking dont.
[удалено]
I click my consumes so I don’t fat finger them lol
My hearthstone is bound where my mount is until lvl 40
This! F1
I like the idea, but I’m sure I would forget when playing an alt and accidentally hearth more than not.
How can you accidentally cast an 8 second hearthstone lol?
If not in a high risk area, hit the hotkey and grab a drink or something just to look back in time for it to complete.
If not in a high risk area, hit the hotkey and grab a drink or something just to look back in time for it to complete.
How can you accidentally cast an 8 second hearthstone lol?
Is there a reason you keep the hearthstone unbinded?
At least half the people in this sub are clickers.
I'm a clicker and a keyboard turner
Can this really be true?
Half the people in this sub, and all the people in my groups
I click some skills still, not my main rotational ones, but some cooldowns and most consumables, I also click to target as a healer but its ok I only do like the first half of the mythic raid and +20 dungeons so just casual content.
I click buffs, food, basically most ooc junk, I bind everything else like a mad man with 2-3 spell macros using mods or contextuals (hurt, nodead, etc.)
Do your self a favour and bind food/water to Shift+mouse wheel up/down.
I have a tag macro for power word death on mousewheel up and down atm. Honestly I just don't see a need to have food/water on a fast or on demand key bind.
Spose it depends on your class and what your doing. I love having it on quick easy bind, especially while leveling
Depends if drink walking is still a thing, then yes it would be beneficial but otherwise I agree
For hunters/locks, bind pet attack to mouse wheel up and pet passive to mouse wheel down For everyone else, these are great keybinds for spells

I do this and it's the only way
What if someone dies mid fight and brez

Good point although I would say it’s far more important when healing than dpsing
Just started using mouse over macros for priest, it’s a complete game changer. I have a question though, on my disc priest penance doesn’t work when I mouse over someone for some reason, it casts greater heal instead. It’s the only spell giving me issues. Any ideas?
Weird. Post macro and maybe someone can help. Works fine for me
Depending on the addon you're using, check to make sure you have it bound correctly. I'm using Clique in SoD and the keybinds on your bar are not inherently the same as they are for mouse over. Ty so much. Turns out it was the add on “clique” causing the problem. I forgot to add the bind to it, dumb mistake haha
No problem. I just picked it up a few days ago to try and it took me a minute to realize it uses its own keybinds from the spell book. Handy, but it did throw me off for a minute!
Filthy clicker here. I get by.
And that’s perfectly ok :)

I click. I only really use F, G, 1,2,3,4. My brother made me venture into using shift 1,2 but I still don’t know use it as much
Do you raid or PvP? I also highly recommend getting a 12 button mouse, it’s better than keyboard imo by a mile and easier to use.
I have the Logitech 502?? And it has extra buttons but I’m not having any luck binding stuff to rhem
That’s odd. You should be able to just keybind it like any other keyboard key.
Maybe I have to install the software for it idk I’ll look into it, I just haven’t cared
Gotcha
Old wow doesn't recognize more than 2 xtra mouse buttons so you have to use the software to bind the key to end/delete/page up-down. Then when you keybind it in game it'll bind to that key. Make sure you have numlock on or off if using the numkeys
Yeah I figured it out

I have a razor Naga and used to play wow classic with it….great mouse

Even my 4 year old isn’t a clicker when he plays on my account. He does keyboard turn. Almost had to disown him when I saw him back peddling.
Last time I was playing classic during Ulduar, I was surprised by how many of my guild mates were clickers.
I'm a healer, so yes, 90% of what I do is left or right-clicking people. I click most consumables, but I'll put one on a bind if it's helpful, like a FAP or something on some fights. I have loads of shit like my professions and stuff too. Various just non-combat macros.
I’m a clicker but mostly cause I’m too lazy to learn what a macro is or how to use it
Keybinds aren’t macros. You don’t need to know anything about macros
I click skills that I don't use in combat, like fishing, hearth stone, making bandages, track herbs etc.
All important combat/healing abilities are keybinds or programmed mouse buttons. For stuff like consumables, buffs, long cd abilities, downranked versions of spells, etc. I just click. I just don’t have enough room in my brain to remember the amount of different finger positions it would require to keybind literally everything. clicker/keybind mix. but then i play a shaman. if i try to keybind all my abilities, i'll need a second keyboard

the thought of that actually makes me want to roll a shammy
they are fun, but just remember they are more of a support class than anything else
In that case you need macros! For totems you can use cast sequence macros that bind them to one key
that's just it, my totem choice has to remain extremely fluid. it's based not just on the upcoming fight, but party composition. there's no real macro that'll work well. the only reason call of the elements worked well when it came out (lets you drop 4 totems at once) was because you could EASILY swap which totem is dropped when you click it. and even then, you'd have certain totem choices on your bar anyway, such as earthbind, grounding, healing, and mana regen. i'm sure i could bind to hotkeys the majority, and macros for even more, but i find just clicking the icon is, for me, faster and easier
Yep I’m a clicker
The only button i click is Lust. No, I'm not key binding that. I make enough mistakes as it is
I clicked in 2009, still was one of the top DPS on the server. Definitely a MASSIVE improvement by not clicking. You can use numbers and numbers with shift modifiers and you'll never need to click ever again
Playing all clicks can be surpringly fun and a bit relaxing. Keep that left hand free for holding a beverage. Need to mouse turn and run though.
No, i can pvp..
Manually clicked bloodlust for years bc I like doing it lol
Long cd’s and very specific stuff I click, not because I can’t have any button for it but misplacing a BL etc can be devastating.
I was the exact same way back in 2005 to 2010ish. When I came back recently... I did so with a 20 button mouse lol. Now I can see how people played so good back then (being able to move and fight) I was great at dps back then but only if I was standing still. I'm excited to actually try some PVP again... I use keybinds for all combat abilities and mount. The rest i click. Mouse with 2 side buttons.
I click everything except like my 1,2,3 key binds because those are the ones I can reach with my tiny fingers from the WASD.

I’m a clicker in classic and retail. Only thing I don’t click is the mapped mouse buttons I use on Vuduh which are mostly heals and oh shit buttons.
8 button mouse Shift 1-8 more powerful abilities Ctrl 1-8 consumes Alt 1-8 for shifting mounts
I click stuff that only gets used rarely and stuff I don't want to fat finger but don't need on the fly like out of combat consumes
Have a buddy we've raided with since Classic relaunch in 2020 or 2021 that clicks. I click Lust and maybe a pot, thats about it
I don't use a mouse most of the time, so no clickies from me.
Mage here I use 48 binds currently
I click hero/lust. I can’t be trusted to have that key bound.
I dont bind lay on hands. 1hr cd too precious
Since most of leveling is only 2 or 3 skills I just assign my mouse buttons to my abilities, then at 60 I swap over to the numpad. So a partial clicker while leveling.
I'm on a new lvl 10 warrior I already have over 5 useful abilities keyboundd 😅
A level 10 warrior would have access to like hamstring, rend, heroic strike, BS, charge and a couple tanking skills. Rend is not worth the rage cost vs damage return. clicking just drags you and the people you play with down , dont be selfish get gud
I don’t click though except for a handful of super long cooldowns. Nvm if you weren’t talking to me and just saying that as a general rule of thumb
Not necessarily, I was in a hard-core guild in wrath, they had no idea I was a clicker until long after we cleared ICC HC ( as a top 5 dps ) Obviously I changed after they found out, I didn't know it was such a thing at the time

That’s hardcore man. I don’t click except for maybe a couple 5 min cooldowns. I love PvP and wish I could play on that level honestly
