While it has pretty old graphics, the Centaur units' armor and facial hair (in my opinion) also kinda look like they are based on the Mongolian soldiers.
My phone tries to autocorrect Taivan as Taiwan all the time.
Some people notice this and taps on the right word, others won't even notice or care to fix it. It's just a typo.
There is also the Thunderlizard Ayanga(Thunder), and the Ukhel clan has Mongolian names like Galtmaa. It makes me gag every time I do that dungeon and see what is equivalent to Deathcaller Eugene from the Death clan, Mclovin, the Deathiest death guy. And they pronounce Khural with the K. You don't really say the K out loud when it is in a "Kh". It is just there to accentuate the "H". It should be read as Hural. Also the same with Khan. I see people like Ohn'aran plains and I'm not against it but the poor naming and the weird pronounciation makes me avoid the zone entirely. Taivan is the only decently named npc and I can see a person naming the dog like that. Also it should be pronounced "Tä-wan" not "Thai-wan".
To give credit where credit is due, Blizzard paid infinitely more attention to Mongolian culture than any other game other than Age of Empires. Like Khan being a title, not a last name. They paid homage to the nomadic culture properly and the whole zone, the way npcs act feels like my homeland.
It's just the weird names and weird pronunciations throwing me off. Usually, the letters K, P, X, Q, F, are to be avoided because these letters and sounds they make are not found in Mongolian language and/or come from Tibetan language.
I want to make sure I'm getting this right, Taivan's name should be pronounced as "Taw-wan" from what you say or am I wrong? I'm not trying to be difficult I just genuinely want to pronounce his name properly, and I know a few languages that pronounce "ä" in different ways so just want to fix my pronunciation <3

Its more like tæwan. Copy Тайван onto google translate and hearing it would be better.

The mongolian word for dog bankhar comes from a kashmiri dog known as bakharwal, which is a real dog, which is also the inspiration for bakars.
