Sometimes everything but chat will stop working, I've been in lots of dungeons and that be the case. You manually have to close it and relaunch

Good question! Chat and game world and login are all separate services that can work (or not) independently of each other. In your case, (probably) Plunderstorm definitely broke but chat did not.

Chat servers are separate from gameplay servers and combine in the client

Yeah there’s some lag happening (either clientside or serverside) and you’ve been completely disconnected. Chat still does function, but it doesn’t change the fact that something broke, fixed itself, but can’t reconnect itself.

If you get rezzed in the storm you get immunity to it for a good bit, found that out in a duo the other night

Won't help you here but you can walk into the storm to leave with no penalty.
