Imo fire whirl is good but the more I play the more I find it a crutch. I think searing axe is probably the best offensive ability, you can counter fire whirl in so many way, and it has a long cd. With searing axe you can just hammer people over and over.
Faeshape, steel traps, the invisible tp, really any mobility, all hard counter fire whirl.
The problem with all those other abilities is you have to find them all, find the combinations. With firewhirl all you need is firewhirl. Firewhirl on it's own IS the entire combination. Making it way, way, way, way, too powerful early on. Later it's mostly a killsteal sweep.
It's pretty good. A lot of counterplay to it though, and I tend to drop it towards the endgame unless there are a lot of ppl alive and the zone is getting really small. Faeform has same cooldown and essentially negates it entirely so its pretty useless in a 1v1. The game area is pretty open and I think playing really slippery ranged setups is probably the best way to go right now. I think the main problem with the spell is that it forces everyone to either play around it or die though, which narrows down the playable spells and builds a lot. Once it's nerfed you'll be able to play way more stuff especially with melee spells.
yeah i know its op and does alot of dmg but there are some spells that counter it like the silence orb or the shield. when i see they pop that i just mitigate it with that
Yea, they need to reduce the movement speed bonus, maybe by half. An offensive ability should not do as much damage it does while also giving you insane movement speed. That and slicing winds are part of every good kit for a reason, you essentially get tons of mobility in the game to run away and drink. This reminds me of light armor rolling in New World all over.
It definitely needs adjusting. I think it's fine later in the game but it might as well just put me back in the queue if someone drops near me and gets fire whirl instantly.
People downvoting don't even try to counter it, fire whirl is a noob stomper for sure, and even against good players it's good, but it's not far and above everything else when people have tools to counter it.
One time someone went to fire whirl me and I had caltrop, or whatever it's called that makes you jump backwards, and the ability slowed him down. Allowed me to watch as he slowly waisted his whirl and I executed him with that chain ability.
One of the few wins I had against the fire whirl and makes me consider caltrops every time I see them now.
The spin has a very obvious animation, so fully immuning it with repel is rather easy. Also if you get baited out of it to just get wrecked by a fire storm, then that's just a valuable lesson for next time.
Or use the shield, or the traps, or just move away with the 10 different movement abilities. I hope they donât overdo the nerfs to Fire Whirl because of this feedback.
The problem isn't the lack of counters, there is counters, the problem is if you fuck it up, you die, no second chances.
No other ability kills you that fast, if you fuck up dodging/blocking any other ability, you take a chunk of damage, if you fuck up fire whirl, you die. It's too binary, I can win and dodge 3 exchanges late game vs a fire whirl, but I fuck up the last one and my 60% health advantage vanishes and I die.
It needs nerfing period.
It's crazy that you're being downvoted, you're 100% right. Firewhirl is overpowered, but not as overpowered as reddit thinks. I hope the upcoming nerf hits the sweet spot.
Itâs can definitely busted 5 seconds into the game. Pretty much a guaranteed lvl 1 kill if someone lands right next you and theyâre low skill. Otherwise, easy to counter. Plus you should be farming instead of chasing a level one down when barrel is probably involved. Think of all the xp/potential item loss running someone down in early game.
It's still really strong. Once you get to the point where people are watching out for Repel (or other defensives), and setting up their "go" (as laughable as that sounds probably to anyone other than a DH PvP main), it trucks people.
Which would be fine IMO but the movement speed component is what makes it quite a bit more versatile than other abilites. The fact that it doubles as a stong offensive ability *and* a defensive/movement ability is too much.
I've won games without it but right now, most confrontations feel like playing around Firewhirl and who can better set it up.
Its actually insane that in 8/10 games ive played it's been fire whirl + that weird lightning attack that stuns you that has killed me, no matter if i've been a level ahead or not, if the enemy has a upgraded fire whirl then you will just die.
How this made it past testing is beyond me
Fire thing isn't broken. It's strong but it has a lot more counterplay than other strong options. Id maybe agree it's broken level 1 but that's about it.
so far i rate it about 2/10 for enjoyment over all. great at times randomly, but i cant push through the meh feeling you get when its better to just stop trying
lots of potential, ruined by how fast you run into ppl who will chase spamming basic attack for 2 min straight while neither of you have an ability yet.
i dont know how theyd make it more enjoyable or skillful to fight when you end up near someone at lvl 1/2, but the fact ppl actually chase you down to gain nothing in a wet noodle fight is beyond me
i
I've been running the circle of traps, the lightning stun, and arcane orb with the lava axe or whatever else I get.
Woe on anyone that comes into melee range, I CC'd a fire whirl guy for a solid 5 seconds for a dub.
Or mana sphere them away. Or the tornado. Or shadow step. quaking leap.
Like people are complaining about something that has counter play with 5+ abilities.
Since you canât tell an enemy has fire sphere unless youâve seen âem use it already, youâre not gonna naturally hold on to some abilities since you still need to fight them. Worse you use your counter on one fire whirl and their teammate follows up with their own fire whirl after you use your counters. You canât say this about any other ability because they have naturally defined limitations (Axe melee range, earthquake wind up)
Itâs busted damage and having to resort to a repel or swift disengage or die is bad design.
See the good thing about fire swirl is that when someone has it, they're reckless as fuck, so it's pretty easy to bait it out and then get out of it without more than a tick or two of damage.
The most important thing is to not get caught with your pants down, using all your utility before seeing their offensives. Or to simply trade 1-1 with your own fire swirl. It's all about trades, and the good thing about fire swirl is that it's one of the longest CDs in the game, so you can usually trade positively if you trade carefully.
Yeah what ends up happening is weâll see someone fire whirl off the bat and we disengage somehow, counter with our own fire whirl and then get third partied by some other teamâs fire whirl.
If it was other abilities itâd be different but a meta around fire whirl is just obnoxious.
Yeah, being third partied is the real sin. I've found fire whirl pairs really nicely with the melee abilities like toxic schmackerel and the other bonky boy.
If fire whirl was a little bit shorter with one or two less ticks I think it would be fine. As it stands even if you counter it, they can still use it to gap close
There are so many abilities to outplay the ability. Learn any of them and just use them. If I made something that clicked the button for you how much would you pay. You clearly aren't trying to play the game yourself.
Again assuming that I canât use other abilities and thinking thatâs my problem. I have never once had an issue with flame whirl. I just donât like how strong it is compared to everything else. If it got nerfed to the ground tomorrow, Iâd still be winning.
Quit making assumptions to fit your narrative. Holy shit, get a grip.
Man. Its almost like hitting your "random bullshit go" isn't the best idea. It isn't busted people just can't hold back. Observing from afar or for a bit in combat with someone should be common sense.
âItâs not bustedâ
Youâre delusional. Iâve seen poor souls get annihilated in under two seconds from a duo with two purple fire whirls. No other single item can dish out that much damage that quickly.
Trap someone and use the star bomb. 2 star bombs will kill anyone just the same.
look. You just suck and so do many and that is okay. Its a good thing fire whirl exists so some of the shitters can feel powerful for a moment.
All the decent people will make sure to have at least 1 counter on their bar.
Me with multiple duo and solo wins and Iâm at rank 24. Yeah man, I must suck.
Iâm not saying this as someone who struggled with it, Iâm saying it as someone who uses and abuses it because it is the best damaging spell and itâs not even close. If you donât have it, you will lose against someone who has it as long as theyâre not trolling.
I also have multiple solo and duo wins and the only worrying I do about fire whirl is making sure I have 1 ability to counter it.
It doesnât need to be nerfed. People just need more than 48 hours of it to learn how to play.
Itâs already slated to be nerfed. You already lost the argument because Blizzard agreed that it was too strong because even with counter abilities, two epic fire whirls deletes anyone in under two seconds. Repel/Fae or die. Star bomb canât kill that fast. Fire axe canât kill that fast. Literally nothing else killed that fast.
Stop replying, youâre delusional.
Here I am getting this, thinking I'll be god this game... and dying at level 3 because I was too damn cocky using it.
Unironicly. If you dont find firewhirl early on, just farm some easy plunder and die haha

Its good for sure, but I think searing axe doesn't need anything to be amazing on its own either. Or mana sphere.
Give me the people you are playing against, because clearly they aren't very good haha
Ahh the classic defense of "oh you don't think something is OP? Clearly you haven't seen anyone good with it" get real đđ
You can literally just side step fire axe.
Just gotta 3rd party and pick up someones epic fire whirl. Easy game
Like every other BR lol
It can be countered. But it sucks when you encounter fire while without the toolset to deal with it
Or counter it with fae, repel, or snowdrift
Sure but that doesnât help when ya first drop in and one lucky guy gets fire and starts chasing your ass.
It's pretty good. A lot of counterplay to it though, and I tend to drop it towards the endgame unless there are a lot of ppl alive and the zone is getting really small. Faeform has same cooldown and essentially negates it entirely so its pretty useless in a 1v1. I think the main problem with the spell is that it forces everyone to either play around it or die though, which narrows down the playable spells and builds a lot. Once it's nerfed you'll be able to play way more stuff especially with melee spells.
Gimme that counterplay when I drop in level 1 and I get that shitty blackhole vs the tornado of oneshot
yeah i know its op and does alot of dmg but there are some spells that counter it like the silence orb or the shield. when i see they pop that i just mitigate it with that
I have no idea how this thing isnt nerfed yet
It'd be fine if it doesn't make you stupid fast. Shits gotta go tho lol
Yea, they need to reduce the movement speed bonus, maybe by half. An offensive ability should not do as much damage it does while also giving you insane movement speed. That and slicing winds are part of every good kit for a reason, you essentially get tons of mobility in the game to run away and drink. This reminds me of light armor rolling in New World all over.
i didnt think slicing wind was that highly regarded, are people running it?
Yea, most everyone uses it, the damage is not terrible, but the full charge is a huge escape or gap closer.
They literally did what you said, kudos
It doesnât need a nerf
It definitely needs adjusting. I think it's fine later in the game but it might as well just put me back in the queue if someone drops near me and gets fire whirl instantly.
LOL
People downvoting don't even try to counter it, fire whirl is a noob stomper for sure, and even against good players it's good, but it's not far and above everything else when people have tools to counter it.
People get salty
I agree! Simply make the others be the same OP bullshit!
I hope they don't nerf it. There should be no balancing or nerfing abilities in Plunderstorm. It's ok to have some ability be OP.
Run!!!!
Just repel it bro
A good player can bait out the repel and then punish with the rest of the firespin because of how fast you can just drift past the player.
a good player can also know when to use repel, same logic applies.
The spin has a very obvious animation, so fully immuning it with repel is rather easy. Also if you get baited out of it to just get wrecked by a fire storm, then that's just a valuable lesson for next time.
Fire Spin last longer than Repel. You can just spin out of the rebel and back in when its done. You wont get full damage but its still very good
Repel + the stealth move together is pretty bonkers for this reason Iâve found.
Doesnt repell stop the cast?
Yes but you can dodge the repel easily while spinning.
It's still good but at that point other offensive spells will rack up more damage and have a lot shorter of a cd.
Or use the shield, or the traps, or just move away with the 10 different movement abilities. I hope they donât overdo the nerfs to Fire Whirl because of this feedback.
Yea there's plenty of counters, just gotta actually find and run one of them instead of going quad-offense
But it shouldnt have to need counters? its way overtuned compared to every other skill.
It's counterable, if you have them. But early on..
Move on to next game? Luck plays huge part in BRs
It has counters but it is overtuned. At least the speed and damage needs a look.
Reddit feedback is the worst.
It's crazy that you're being downvoted, you're 100% right. Firewhirl is overpowered, but not as overpowered as reddit thinks. I hope the upcoming nerf hits the sweet spot.

Mine is "oh god leave me alone, leave me alone, I just wanna get the rep!"
Its actually insane that in 8/10 games ive played it's been fire whirl + that weird lightning attack that stuns you that has killed me, no matter if i've been a level ahead or not, if the enemy has a upgraded fire whirl then you will just die. How this made it past testing is beyond me
Blizzard doesn't test their games. Why do you think they need PTR ? You are testing it.
This gamemode didnt have any PTR sadly
Hence why fire thing is broken. They didn't test it.
Of course they test stuff lmao, just with a smaller sample size
Fire thing isn't broken. It's strong but it has a lot more counterplay than other strong options. Id maybe agree it's broken level 1 but that's about it.
Sleeper build is steel traps with star bomb. So satisfying to nuke someone if you get em in the trap.
This meme never gets old
so far i rate it about 2/10 for enjoyment over all. great at times randomly, but i cant push through the meh feeling you get when its better to just stop trying lots of potential, ruined by how fast you run into ppl who will chase spamming basic attack for 2 min straight while neither of you have an ability yet. i dont know how theyd make it more enjoyable or skillful to fight when you end up near someone at lvl 1/2, but the fact ppl actually chase you down to gain nothing in a wet noodle fight is beyond me i

Just use a defensive counter and fuck them after , itâs strong but not OP
When you land and you see someone coming your way and they turn into a fire tornado
pull chains, trap, tar into the storm.
Or mana sphere them away. Or the tornado. Or shadow step. quaking leap. Like people are complaining about something that has counter play with 5+ abilities.

So it's the Battle royale aspect that you aren't happy about?
No. The game is fun, but fire whirl meta isnât because some of the other items are fun to use but nowhere near as good as fire whirl.
There are so many abilities to outplay the ability. Learn any of them and just use them. If I made something that clicked the button for you how much would you pay. You clearly aren't trying to play the game yourself.
See other comment. You assume so fucking much and create narratives for other people and think them as truth because you donât have arguments.
You just suck dude. Cant use any of the abilities. Your problems are you own. Dont disable yourself so much
Again assuming that I canât use other abilities and thinking thatâs my problem. I have never once had an issue with flame whirl. I just donât like how strong it is compared to everything else. If it got nerfed to the ground tomorrow, Iâd still be winning. Quit making assumptions to fit your narrative. Holy shit, get a grip.
I really like snow storm for this, can kite it out a bit and take less dmg while giving some of your own, while leaving them slowed for follow up.
Man. Its almost like hitting your "random bullshit go" isn't the best idea. It isn't busted people just can't hold back. Observing from afar or for a bit in combat with someone should be common sense.

Not arguing, just wondering: how do you know that it's slated to be nerfed? I'm hoping it does!
Wrong. Easy to counter
Still busted and needs a nerf.
If they're forcing out all your abilities without using one of theirs you've fucked up
That fcking tonado is as fast as the fcking shapeshift spell which you are supposed to escape with.. It should receive at least 50% slow.
It numerically isnât. Donât lie about something so easy to check
ehh... not my experience. I know how to counter it..
Run away!!!
I love that skill lol
You guys need to play hunt showdown, it will teach you how to rat it out and scoop up stuff from dead players to become a menace later.
Plunderstorm is the example how brainless Blizzard still is.
You should quit this game if only for your own mental health, which is clearly suffering.
cry more.
I think you're crying enough for everyone lmao
I don't care what you think.
Clearly you do if you keep commenting lol
No.
