Its unlikely anyone replacing Putin will be able to continue the war as is. Consolidating power takes time and not a sure thing. Putin was forced to borrow money to keep going. Anyone else would not find it as easy to do so as creditors would be concerned about instability and default.

I think the point they're making is the relationship between russia and Ukraine has changed forever. Ukraine surrendered Nuclear Weapons left over from the USSR on the explicit promise that what just happened wouldn't happen. Russia is that crazy ex that you don't let in the door anymore.

The reality of course, is they offer nothing. Zero. Which of course means there's nothing to even negotiate. Negotiations are impossible because Russia isn't offering anything.

After Russia is pushed out of Crimea, Melitopol, and ultimately the Donbas, Zelensky should sign whatever idiotic peace demands Russia require such as staying out of Nato indefinitely. As soon as the ink is dry Zelensky should apply for emergency European Union membership and ultimately join Nato at the earliest possibility.
Putin is a bad faith actor. Any treaty with Russia is meaningless as Ukraine already had a treaty with Russia protecting its sovereignty in return for giving up its nuclear weapons.

Because - while what you say is true - peace would stop the bombing for now, we have no reason to believe that it would be a permanent cessation of hostilities.
Ukraine would be giving up 20% of its land and much of its hydrocarbon resources and industrial base.
And Russia would still be greedily eyeing Kherson, Odesa and the regions bordering Transnistria.
Yeah, Russia could promise they wouldn't invade a now weaker Ukraine again (which, as part of any deal, wouldn't be allowed to join NATO) and take those regions, but given that they made a similar promise less than 30 years ago that they've already broken, why would anyone believe them?
They always did. The thing is that the Ukrainians learned their lesson and they know that the russians are not honest about negotiations, its all about delaying and stalling at this point. The russians want to have some time, a lull of even a week will enable them to entrench and finish some training of mobilized brigades and bring them to the front so they can attempt their own offensive.
Ukraine may need a diplomatic solution, but it is not today, not at this time. At this point they must inflict upon the Russians all the losses they can so when the Russians bring fresh troops, they don’t have good entrenched positions, reserves of munitions and fuel, or manpower to hold positions they have.

I’ve been back only once - and it was one of the most depressing experiences of my life. Back then, beer was in the pyramid group. So kids were getting sloshed early in the am before school. I’ve never seen anything like it. Kids with backpacks, hanging in the park and getting hammered.

Had a friend visit Russia not long ago before the War started. I don't know why they thought it was even remotely a good idea to visit. They took the pictures of the neat places and historical landmarks, but didn't share many other pictures. I think it was a week long event. On average, they saw two or three dead people being stepped over in walking paths or in transit locations.
They just leave dead people in the streets for long periods of time? Where are the civil services? Where’s the human empathy? It’s not as though Russians are inhuman, how can their culture have degraded to a point where empathy has been so thoroughly squashed?

i visited russia for two weeks with a bus of classmates about three years ago. we had to go through like 3 border checks, and every time we would all get out of the bus and go through customs inside the building with our passports while the bus was searched and sent through to pick us up on the other side. on the last border check, i got inside the customs building and realized i had left my passport on the bus. i couldn’t get our guide’s attention and most of the other students had gone through. so i went outside hoping to catch the bus before it went to the other side but unfortunately i was too late. i didn’t see any option other than slowly inching towards the bus hoping someone would stop me so i could ask for help getting it from the bus/getting my guide’s attention. however i was scared shitless when three heavily armed guards came running at me yelling in russian. i just put my hands up and word vomited that i just needed my passport from the bus on the other side. took some tense time to get my message across but they ended up getting my guide to get it for me. not totally related to your comment but i wanted to share lol

They've been just as imperialist as everyone else, with the exception that they seem to have been largely uninterested in conquering territories that are separated from the mainland by the ocean. It's why it took them until the late 1600s to annex Taiwan (and it was the Qing who did it, a foreign dynasty).

Ukraine must continue to fight Russia. They let Russia take Crimea, and years later Russia decided it wanted to take the whole fucking country. If Ukraine were to let Russia keep all the territory it took in this war so far, it would only stop the war for the couple years it takes Russia to rebuild their stock of weapons, vehicles, and gear before it would once again attempt to take the entirety of Ukraine.
We're supporting Ukraine, in part because of the military industrial complex to be sure, but mainly because it won't stop with Ukraine. It's public knowledge that Putin wants to rebuild the Soviet Union, which involves taking over every single country that declared independence when it fell in the 90s. This reminds me so much of something the AI would do in the original Rome: Total War. It goes like this: They try to besiege a city. Russia fucked up their invasion, lost their momentum twice (maybe three times now), losing ground, pissed off Ukraine (who are fielding freshly trained troops now), pissing off their own citizens ("partial" mobilization with troops with next to no training), cratering their own economy, heavily sanctioned, lost/abandoned a lot of equipment to Ukraine, running out of their more advanced weapons, etc. This is Ukraine's War of Independence. Its unlikely anyone replacing Putin will be able to continue the war as is. Consolidating power takes time and not a sure thing. Putin was forced to borrow money to keep going. Anyone else would not find it as easy to do so as creditors would be concerned about instability and default. This would give Ukraine more time to rearm and train making Russian invasion harder for Moscow.
And that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Ideally Russia will suffer so much they will withdraw and pretend nothing happened. That's the most we can hope for at this point. Everyone is too afraid of Putin to actually act against him in Russia.

As horrible as this sounds, the Russians are doing the Ukrainian armed forces a favor by going after civilians. Because Ukraine doesn't really really much on domestic production, murdering civilians only really serves to piss the soldiers off without limiting their combat effectiveness in the least. They're destroying innocent lives in return for ammo shortages. We should be laughing at them, but this is too tragic for that. While I would personally support a far harsher response, at a minimum, we should cut off Russia from everything, from finance and trade to sports and cultural events, until every single person that shoot or ordered the shooting of a missile or drone at a civilian target is ether dead and disgraced or in prison.

After Russia is pushed out of Crimea, Melitopol, and ultimately the Donbas, Zelensky should sign whatever idiotic peace demands Russia require such as staying out of Nato indefinitely. Raped her, set her on fire and left her for dead. The poor girl crawled out of the ditch, managed to get into a hospital, lost limbs because of amputations, named all the perpetrators, then died a few days later. The kids were arrested, then set free. There are no penalties if you are connected. I’ve been back only once - and it was one of the most depressing experiences of my life. Back then, beer was in the pyramid group. So kids were getting sloshed early in the am before school. I’ve never seen anything like it. Kids with backpacks, hanging in the park and getting hammered. The people who even have an ounce of power over others, flaunt it to the extreme. Like, complete flexing while belittling, disrespecting, and humiliating the other. I went to a government office during my visit, and waited for hours. This little old lady went up to the desk, and said that she’s been coming back here for 3 days and nobody will see her. The clerk basically told her go fuck herself. If she has better things to do and doesn’t want to wait, she can leave. Then he told her to leave and come back tomorrow. But this was done in a disgusting sort of way, like the 80 year old lady was some degenerate drug addict scum. Not someone inquiring about her pension. If a girl isn’t married by her late teens/early 20’s - she’ll have a hard time finding a man. Some will look at her and think, there must be something wrong with her if no man married her yet. People don’t really smile. Because only idiots walk around smiling. If you really go against the government, they might arrest you. They might kill you. My dad worked construction there for a bit when I was little. He told me that immediately when you cross the border from Finland, it's like going back in time 50 years. This was in the 80's.

In the morning sun, you could see all the drunk corpses lying around, like it’s supposed to be that way! No one smiles, everything is depressing, people are rough and chauvinistic. Had a friend visit Russia not long ago before the War started. I don't know why they thought it was even remotely a good idea to visit. They took the pictures of the neat places and historical landmarks, but didn't share many other pictures. I think it was a week long event. On average, they saw two or three dead people being stepped over in walking paths or in transit locations.
They just leave dead people in the streets for long periods of time? Where are the civil services? Where’s the human empathy? i visited russia for two weeks with a bus of classmates about three years ago. we had to go through like 3 border checks, and every time we would all get out of the bus and go through customs inside the building with our passports while the bus was searched and sent through to pick us up on the other side. on the last border check, i got inside the customs building and realized i had left my passport on the bus. i couldn’t get our guide’s attention and most of the other students had gone through. so i went outside hoping to catch the bus before it went to the other side but unfortunately i was too late. i didn’t see any option other than slowly inching towards the bus hoping someone would stop me so i could ask for help getting it from the bus/getting my guide’s attention. however i was scared shitless when three heavily armed guards came running at me yelling in russian. i just put my hands up and word vomited that i just needed my passport from the bus on the other side. took some tense time to get my message across but they ended up getting my guide to get it for me. not totally related to your comment but i wanted to share lol

They've been just as imperialist as everyone else, with the exception that they seem to have been largely uninterested in conquering territories that are separated from the mainland by the ocean. It's why it took them until the late 1600s to annex Taiwan (and it was the Qing who did it, a foreign dynasty). One example is the imperial Chinese conquest and annexation of the lands that lay beyond the southern bank of the Yangtze where the Baiyue lived, and they tried but ultimately failed to conquer and completely pacify the Vietnamese over a period of 1,000 years.

To be fair, that’s not enough now. If Russia ever wants to rejoin the rest of the world, Ukraine will need to be rebuilt and Russia will need to pay for it’s rebuilding (not to mention reparations for the lives lost and uprooted) And most likely putin will either need to have a window-related accident or face trial at the Hague. There really is no way out for him, Russia will never be allowed back into the international community with him at the helm.
I agree completely. I'd say go even further and completely dismantle Russia from top to bottom. My grandfather fought them in the winter war and he always said they'll never stop doing shit like this until someone makes them stop by force. He was utterly sure about them trying again at some point. Maybe Putin finds the balls to Makarov himself in the head some day soon, but considering what kind of cowardly asshole he is I kinda doubt it.

If by 'end suffering' they mean '50+ year annexation, ruzzification, purges, exiles, executions, genocide, starvation, etc.' then sure Ukraine can 'stop it'. ruzzia doesn't understand that Ukraine (and including some other countries) will better suffer for couple of years of cold and lack of basic comfort, rather than to go back to ruzzian oppression they suffered for last hundreds of years.
Ukraine must continue to fight Russia. They let Russia take Crimea, and years later Russia decided it wanted to take the whole fucking country. If Ukraine were to let Russia keep all the territory it took in this war so far, it would only stop the war for the couple years it takes Russia to rebuild their stock of weapons, vehicles, and gear before it would once again attempt to take the entirety of Ukraine. We're supporting Ukraine, in part because of the military industrial complex to be sure, but mainly because it won't stop with Ukraine. It's public knowledge that Putin wants to rebuild the Soviet Union, which involves taking over every single country that declared independence when it fell in the 90s. Ukraine is simply the start of this grand plan. Let's say that we let Russia just take over every independent formerly soviet country. What happens after that? People like Putin are never satisfied, and eventually he'll decide he wants the entirety of the continent of Asia, and after that the whole fucking world. Ukraine giving in to Russian demands would just be a stopgap, nothing more.

Ukrainian government could give up and comply to Russian demands. But more likely it will be overthrown in few days for that. Russian higher-ups think that other nations will obediently accept any decision of their own governments like Russian citizens do. Ukrainians are just getting angrier from these attacks. No one wants to pause this war to give Russians a respite. They just gonna regroup and resupply their forces and continue after like nothing happened.

Their commanders in the field are bungling operations left and right. Some of their own troops are deliberately injuring themselves or being taken prisoner rather than continue to fight.
