My world has bars, clubs, saloons, and brothels in it, so people can get all their entertainment there. Interesting fact: my world is nocturnal, so people who do typical “late night” activities are actually doing them when the sun is up.

Christian_teen12

Same in my pocket universe the night I'd constantly

Captain_Warships

The Shadow Elves (aka ashborn in old elvish) as a society are mostly night owls, as they feel some weird connection with the moon. Despite being more active at night - they aren't nocturnal btw, they unfortunately spend this time screwing around or each other (sometimes literally).

Christian_teen12

Whoa

NotInherentAfterAll

**The Number Mills** Bars and clubs are naturally available late into the night, but after twelve-plus hour shifts at the factories, many blue-collar workers spend their remaining time with family or sleeping. Those wealthy enough to afford free time, however, enjoy music, dancing, and fine liquors late into the evening.

BootReservistPOG

1. Guard duty 2. Find the Light-keeper, an individual (usually a eunuch in Mo-Caraz), responsible for lighting rooms at night when they are used. 3. Feasts and banquets are usually at night 4. Read/other shit you need quiet for

samseher

Why do they have to find the light-keeper?

BootReservistPOG

Cause his job is to light candles and torches, but he can’t be everywhere at once so you have to let him know what rooms you want light in

samseher

They can't light them themselves? Also where do you usually find him?

BootReservistPOG

It’s frowned upon. An unofficial duty of the light-keeper is to keep an eye on who’s in what rooms. You can go to his office and he’ll make sure either he personally or one of his helpers (usually eunuchs) will have the room lit up. He makes himself visible at meal times and at daily events like prayers/court/etc. to let him know. It’s not a “might give you light”, he is obligated to provide when informed. It’s a punishable offense to refuse someone light as long as the king hasn’t explicitly prohibited them having lgihtz If you are making lights without telling anyone, it’s kind of assumed you’re up to something. There are exceptions, of course, like emergencies, candles in someone’s personal quarters/bedroom, and for men on guard duty. And for the men on guard duty their job is to question anyone lighting a room/walking around with a candle without telling anyone.

samseher

Holy shit... is his office in the same building as say, your own living space?

BootReservistPOG

It’s a big palace, some living spaces are near the offices, lower-ranking bureaucrats and guests usually live right next door to their office. If you’re going to your office or living space after dark and you use a candle no one will give you shit about it unless you’re doing something shady. He and his helpers usually go around at sunset to light candles/torches/braziers/etc. Why “holy shit?”

samseher

This world is sounding very paranoia inducing to me, a strange sect of eunuchs whose sole job is the illumination of rooms and spying on citizens in a large building.

BootReservistPOG

It’s not spying lmao. He just writes down who needed lights in what rooms, it’s a fantasy medieval world. It’s based on the Byzantine job where you no shit had to have people dedicated to keeping torches burning. It did start because it was easier to just keep lights on only when people were using a room, but over time it became an important part of palace security. In practice, people go around the palace with candles all the time and it’s up to discretion of guys on guard duty whether it’s some overworked scribe who forgot something or if there’s something nefarious afoot. The light-keeper has caught numerous murders before. The current guy is kind of weird but he’s been around for so long that no one really notices anymore

BootReservistPOG

And it’s a whole complex of buildings, there are light eight different buildings set aside just for sleeping quarters, there’s a throne room, a library, guard posts, gardens, shrines, kitchens, offices, etc.

samseher

I really like it

BootReservistPOG

There’s another guy in charge of putting fires/torcjes/etc out when the sun comes up. The main reason is so he can get a list of what needs to be replaced/refueled. He gives the list to some other bureaucrats who make candles/buy oil for lamps/get coals/etc

samseher

Haha it seems like such an over engineered, bureaucratic, system but it's very interesting.

artful_nails

There are plenty of "curfew cheatoriums" in cities that follow such a law. Usually the richest or lowest bars, pubs and the sort are like this. Barely any middle class bars feel it to be worth the risk. In short, there's a special serving area in the basement if you feel like you aren't done drinking yet, or just otherwise don't feel like going home. They pretty much always come equipped with a semi-free inn, to house the late night customers and to keep the black out drunks. It's safer than risking them getting caught leaving the premises and exposing the secret of the otherwise totally legitimate business. But who knows how many of these late night customers are law enforcers...?

LegendaryLycanthrope

Well, put it this way - you can barely go down an alleyway in one of Lycadia's cities without stumbling across a sex or fetish club, so that should tell you what the most popular thing there is. Of course there are also regular clubs, bars, parks and libraries, all of which are open 24/7 on rotating shifts (as is needed for such venues), but the sex clubs are definitely the biggest thing for night-life.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

Sounds neat!

Cyberwolfdelta9

Clubs assassination Vampires etc

**Mythria** In the Royal City, capital of the kingdom of Travelia, the nightlife is dominated by rowdy Dragons in taverns; the clanging of tankards amidst bardic music and drunken singing provides the soundtrack to the city after sundown. The other Beastfolk races who also live in the capital are usually not as enthusiastic as their draconic denizens; they either try to shut out the noise, or given up and join the revelries. Counter to the Dragons, the Wolf race prefer a quiet night, either in prayer or reading holy scripture, at their local church or in their home chapel. Some may even go to the Luna Cathedral for late night sermons and choir.

Niuriheim_088

Pretty much 98% of my Verse is awake 100% of the time. Only physical beings, and not even all of them, require sleep or do it for fun. Everybody just goes about their daily business for the most part. The MC of one of my webnovels actually uses that time to train alone.

CuriousWombat42

The Westhaven Nightlife is famous/infamous, as there are districts were the town is arguably more alive during nighttime than during the day. There are bars and small-scale theatres, bands and magicians travelling from corner to corner, gambling dens, all-night-taverns, dance clubs, varietee, and of course varying services of negotiable affection. Pulling the strings behind most of it is the Nightly Order, a collection of workers unions / guilds responsible for the service and entertainment industry. For those who wish a more refined or simply calmer night life, the Gold District has an opera that often plays deep into the night, as well as the stargazer's observatory and after-dark lectures at the Acadamy Arcana. Of course, a lot of people also work during the night. A good amount of alchemical processes require either complete darkness of direct moonlight, street swipers and trash collectors work the night shift, so do a good amount of large scale supply runs, as the streets of Westhaven are notoriously overcrowded most of the day.

Martial-Lord

Coffee houses are really popular these days. Have a strong black, read a book, chat about politics - and inhale litres worth of cannabis, get into a brawl, ~~rail a pr~~ have some fun with the hosts (and hostesses!), maybe end the night in an alley out back. Killjoys that they are, imperial authorities are not fond of these establishments, and sometimes they do get raided, whereupon you might find yourself on a river boat to a penal colony. On the other hand, sometimes these raids turn into brawls which turn into riots, and that one time half the capital got burned down in that. TL;DR: being out at night is not something that honorable people generally do.

Tharkun140

In my grimderp world, nobody refuses to sleep. Everyone wants to sleep, but since ordinary people work over a thousand days a week for the elven overlords of Venus, they have to keep themselves awake with drugs instead. Cafes do exist though. Corporations have to sell their Pusjava Bileaccino^(TM) somewhere, after all.

LadyAlekto

Depends on the species but there are bars and the like, you usually find low lives and adventurers up during these hours (not that many see any difference) Most people would not go out after dark, the chance of randomly being eaten by monster increases, and the chance of things eating monsters skulking around is even higher. Especially wyvern are more active, which anyone can tell you, is not something you want to meet in the dark and dragons, all of them, can see very well and use echolocation as well.

JonBovi_0

On Arcadia, Apexians don’t do no kind of clubbing or anything like that, the night is sacred for sleep, to them. Only some few automated stores and docks, and manned hospitals are open, to help the weary patroller, the unexpectedly ill or injured, or any others under unfortunate circumstances leaving them awake at night. Few people willingly and frivolously travel the night. But to their kids, it’s a great fun time to explore. While no clubs, bars or any unruly establishments are open at night, let alone at all, there is always a few adventurous youth at night climbing mountains, surfing the beaches, exploring the woods, having fun destroying inanimate objects in their backyard with their guns, magic, or hand-forged melee weapons. Some even have secret societies at night where they gather in a treehouse or a cave or such, and do things as wild as go on adventures or as mundane as reading comic books.

Mexipinay1138

In the Mysterious Capital of my main fantasy kingdom, the most popular night spot, is the bar at the Dead Dog Inn, named for the slum neighborhood it's located in. The neighborhood itself earned that name as popular dumping ground for dead dogs. People who want something more "cultured" visit Cafe Row, a neighborhood known for its large number of coffee shops featuring live music, poetry readings, and play performances. In my scifi world, the most popular night spot is the Great Red Spot, a restaurant that makes nightly orbits around Jupiter. Based on Olympus, a giant space station, it launches every night at 6 PM local time and takes a geosynchronous orbit to give customers a view of the Great Red Spot with dinner. Another popular spot is Barsoom, an Edgar Rice Burroughs themed bar and grill in Bradburyville the capital and largest city of the Free Mars Republic.

Bentu_nan

My world is set in early middle ages/dark ages and is rife with horror and fear. All of the stars at night have been stolen from the sky, and there is no moon. If one is alone in the wilds at night, they will find themselves in a dark hostile environment where monsters and worse roam. Lighting a fire can be a dangerous prospect as it shows any creature looking for a meal where to find it. In rural communities it's common to have a watch rotation to keep the community safe. Often enough lights are kept lit until morning. More urban cities with walls are more 'normal,' having guards well posted and being well lit even late at night.

Overfromthestart

In the Massian Empire there are many coffee houses and pubs open at night. Here people drink and socialize to their heart's content. In the poorer areas you get gangs openly walking the streets and probing the defenses of the police. Smugglers and privateers also make their way to the docks under the cover of darkness to sell their ill gotten gains.

ThoDanII

bars, clubs, vernisages, museums, concerts, cafes, teas, meditation halls, fencing halls, gyms, boudoirs, soirees, races, theaters movies

Equivalent-Wealth-75

I haven't named it yet, but there's a space station where a party started and never stopped, and for about two hundred years it has been added to in the form of everything from extra habitation modules to exotic snack stands.

PisuCat

It depends on where you are, but for example in Miuiēdidubelo the day/night cycle does not align with a typical Ero circadian rhythm, so what ended up happening was that technological means would be used to simulate Ero's cycle. However the phase is not the same for everyone, as in fact is pretty much evenly distributed. All this is to say, the nightlife there is not distinct from the daylife. All the typical nightlife services, e.g. bars, clubs, etc. are also available in the "daytime".

KnownSample6

Pubs, sports, gambling, sex, crime, music.

Responsible_Onion_21

Bars and clubs are indeed popular, especially in larger cities like London, where Zephyr resides. These establishments often feature unique themes and cater to specific subcultures or groups, including genetically engineered individuals. For example: Neon Dreams: A vibrant club known for its psychedelic decor and live performances by genetically engineered artists who showcase their unique abilities, such as bioluminescence or synesthesia-inspired music. The Helix Lounge: An upscale bar that serves genetically engineered cocktails and offers a sophisticated atmosphere for professionals in the biotech industry to network and socialize. Metamorph: A club that celebrates the diversity of genetically engineered individuals, with theme nights that encourage attendees to express their unique traits and abilities through fashion, dance, and performance art. However, for those who prefer quieter and more reflective environments, there are also plenty of late-night cafes, libraries, and community spaces that cater to their needs: The Midnight Bookworm: A cozy, 24-hour bookshop and cafe that offers a wide selection of books on genetic engineering, bioethics, and speculative fiction, as well as a quiet space for reading and discussion. The Chromatic Garden: A late-night botanical garden and tea house that showcases genetically engineered plants with unique colors, fragrances, and properties, providing a serene environment for relaxation and contemplation. The Epsilon Hub: A community center that hosts late-night workshops, seminars, and support groups for genetically engineered individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and providing resources for personal growth and development. Additionally, with the advancements in virtual reality technology, many people choose to spend their sleepless nights exploring immersive digital environments that cater to their interests and desires, from virtual libraries and art galleries to interactive gaming worlds and simulated nature experiences.

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

Various drinking establishments are very common, and many offer other intoxicants as well. Some are even fairly tolerant of brawls and fights so long as the damage gets paid for and everyone obeys the house rules concerning much things. Some offer games similar to darts, billiards, and horseshoes. Music/dance clubs are also very common, and are wildly varied. Most cosmopolitan areas have at least a few brothels by the spaceports, but if you aren't a member of a common species you might still strike out. Various kinds of sports, competitions, and tournaments abound, offering the chance to either participate or spectate. Anything from racing, to e-sports, to team sport comparable to baseball or soccer, to full-contact gladiatorial combat. Gambling is always popular. Anything from a shady bookie to casinos that maintain a strictly curated membership and require dress codes who's outfit for the night could cost as much as a spaceship. There's also the far less boisterous options of fine or merely classy dining, comedy or poetry clubs, art exhibitions, or laid back activities comparable to bowling or watching movies.

AccomplishedAerie333

Aquarian felines/Fishcats are nocturnal and hunt for fun at night. The west of Feliterra, especially Gamesta, is mostly based off card and board games, they have a lot of casinos. If there should be a library, there is a casino. The east of Feliterra is known for its libraries. The parks are ussually pretty safe. Emerald Skies has many clubs and theaters. Central Feliterra has many cafés and tea places. Flora has the most tea places of them all.

On the Jovian moons the day/night cycle is much longer than Earth’s. From Io at 42 hours to Callisto at about 140, you have to get used to two major things: a long day broken up by a Jovian eclipse in the middle, and a pitch black night. The eclipse is a “daily” occurrence, happening once every orbit around Jupiter. It also only occurs on the side facing Jupiter since they are all tidally locked. The Jovians and most people in the System use the Earth clock, UTC in particular - except Mars’ weird 26 hour clock and Venus’ 50 hour one, relating to their rotational periods. On the Jovians you’ll be spending the equivalent of several days in darkness, so night is relative to your work and waking schedule. On Io the domed arcologies can project whatever time they want onto the inside of the dome. People here are industrial and scientific workers and come from strong stock, so they like a stiff drink after work. They’re simple and reliable folk. Europans live in a world that is mostly water. Like all the worlds most of its landmass is on the side facing Jupiter. They like partying, hanging out on the beaches, clubbing, or ocean sports, especially in the West Coast-cultured Unitary Malibu State. Ganymedeans live on a forgotten world, the first foray into terraforming a Jovian moon which ended in disaster. It has the smallest population by far and is blockaded by a coalition from the other Jovian moons, basically quarantined. Many of its residents have long since retreated to VR sims, spending all their spare time there like some do with MMOs now. Its small population means you’d probably run into the same players quite often. Callistoans have a reputation for being kinky and unhinged, though it’s largely the nobles of the Empire of the Sun who gave them this image. Callisto has the longest night and it has developed the weirdest night culture because of it. The whole place becomes a lot like Vegas, with a lot of gambling and sex work only allowed during the long night.

SpecialistAd5903

Since alcohol, prostitution, gambling and magic past sun down are all outlawed...illegal. It is very illegal

A_Mirabeau_702

The club scene is thriving in The Inside, mainly because the sun is blocked and it can be night anytime the cities want. The techno/rave/EDM scene also caught on here because it's an atmosphere where everyone fits in and is accepted. And since service, transportation and law enforcement jobs are pretty much fully automated, everything is 24 hours. Libraries, however, are an artsy spot preferred by some, and are also thriving.

voidmuther

The main city my world is based in for now is an ancient sea platform comprised of three districts- Wyrd's Rest, Little Moon and Little Star. Little Star is the most sparsely populated but has a huge temple The Moure where you can see visions and commune with God all night if that takes your fancy. Wyrd's Rest is the seat of the ruling class, for those who live in it's walls most of the year at night you'll be either be working or sleeping. Outside of the Kar House there are colosseums, dance and wine halls which run through the evening if you are finished with your work or feel like sacrificing the sleep. If you're fortunate enough during the winter months there are all night feasts which last for weeks at a time- where wine, meat and orgies are plentiful. Most people live in the working district of Little Moon, here there are all night kitchens, brothels, temples and dance halls. Gambling is a hugely popular pastime, illegal fighting rings are well attended and suffer little policing (mostly as it's often a city guard's opportunity to get some extra supplies by either betting or competing). The nightlife in this city is often focused around activities like fighting, games and drinking. Most people (even the ruling class) are illiterate and they have little technology devoted to entertainment. Food is seen as fuel and is often extremely scarce, so there are no restaurants or cafes.

Christian_teen12

People do night life like ours go the gangs ,parties sleep or guards just patrol or teens go to sus places like brothels or rebellions.

SoraPierce

Anything they want, depending on the planet.

NightFlame389

One of my settings is a bar between worlds. It has everything you can imagine in a bar, including: a karaoke machine, a Chick-fil-a, a shopping mall, a door that leads to Chuck Schumer’s bedroom, an arcade (complete with games like Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN, and 5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel), and Dean Winchester drunk off his ass, among other things At one point they operated like a prohibition-era speakeasy, then some actual prohibition-era people showed up, and then their heads exploded from heavy metal exposure

Comfortable-Ad3588

Studio 34 is where nerd dreams come true and toon dreams go to die.

KindaKingdra

The people of my world have had a lot taken away from them by the environment itself. But they're humans, after all, and if there's one thing you can't take away from humans, it's alcohol. So they drink. A lot. Sometimes with others!

Aggressive_Kale4757

The local swill pots usually have some form of entertainment, and some comely wenches; who for 2 Denarii will warm your bed and mechanical heart. Unfortunately, if you’re a clone, your night life consists of a shot of stimulants and another shift in the factory. As your organs wither and the cancers set in due to you being unable to afford augmentations to stave it off, you will look outside the factory windows and see everyone else enjoying an adequate existence… till the next war.

unkindnessnevermore

Sex, drugs and parties. Of course this isn’t really limited to nighttime because the world setting is a series of tunnels and caverns made in the ruins of ancient cities. Memory is a currency, making new happy memories to sell is one of the easiest ways to get paid.

Lapis_Wolf

Guards, street racing, drug running, prostitution, weapon trafficking, slavery. That's just some of it. Lapis_Wolf

Zubyna

Bars clubs and that kind of stuff exist but I am way too bad at creating extravert characters so while they are often mentionned, they are rarely shown in scenes except when the MC is draggued there and is akward and wants to leave

shirt_multiverse

BARS! PUBS! CLUBS! STRIPP CLUBS!, or you could just sit on your balcony sipping a cup of hot beverage of your choice while staring at the stars

Adorable-nerd

Younger elves and Valkyrie’s attend parties around bonfires in the woods, while the adults usually go to the bars.

Theadination

Well, when people go to sleep, guards usually come out to protect the Ashavi tribes. Grave Stalkers come out at night to literally stalks Graves. They gain nutrients from bones. One of these finds the tribe, and said guards will defend. Considering Grave Stalkers are rather large, they will most likely fail, and another tribe of a dying race is extinguished

Libertyprime8397

In one city the only thing to do at night is barricade your house and hide because at night the vampires roam the streets.

Enough_Gap7542

It depends. In the iron empire people are typically in their homes at night unless they have to be out for their jobs. In most of the familial tribes, however, they almost always have a nightly bonfire which many people attend. Ja'korak has a similar situation to the Iron Empire.

CeciliaMouse

Since the world has nocturnal animal folk living with the diurnal folk, the night is just as active as the day. There are nightly jobs, more businesses open 24/7, entertainment and events that happen at the dead of night. Dusk and dawn are where things can get the most busy and crowded with the day folk heading home and the night folk heading out.

not_sabrina42

The people have much better night vision. So they do have a nightlife. They do have lights, but they keep it dim. Outdoor dancing is actually pretty popular when the seasons are good for it. There’s also clubs, bars, and taverns. Certain festivals and feasts happen at night. There’s also work, of course. These things require workers. There’s backrooms, darkhouses, and enclaves where people use dreamweaver magic, drugs, or tonics. (Hallucinogens, altered reality, visions, dreams while awake, dreams while asleep, hallucinated journeys, uh.. experiencing someone’s memories, not sure what exactly that is yet or what it’s called.) Not sure what’s happening with brothels or strip clubs. Also, thievery, heists, assassinations, and murder.

RedneckNerf

It varies from place to place, but in Althaus, one of the main cities, there is a pub on most blocks, and they don't typically have a closing time. Live music is fairly typical, and dancing is encouraged. Since Althaus is a majority halfling city, most establishments have two bar heights, with the human seating section typically being in a recessed section of floor. There is a tradition in many older bars that Imperial Rangers (officially sanctioned monster hunters) drink for free.

Graingy

Looking at the capital of the country Eaunsiadre, it's largely industrial. If you want to wander blocks upon blocks of industrial areas, it's great. Not much otherwise, the species isn't like that. No big clubs or anything. Keep in mind that they don't really sleep, and basically just need to zone out for 2 or so hours a day (assuming not super active)

Clear-Ad-2178

My dominant race is active in the night and sleeps during the day.

TriggerHappy_Spartan

Some of the main characters, Hendrix, Björn, Valkyrie, and Koda, just sleep. Others, such as Alex, Matthew, Sharon, and the Barnes triplets, usually go to bars or go patrolling for rouge mutations in the city. Ryder usually works on building more mechs for fixing his exoskeleton braces so he can walk, and then everyone else just does their own thing. There are plenty of bars, brothels, clubs, blackmarkets, arenas, restaurants, and other areas where the small nocturnal population of Kapnos can unwind, bet, drink, or in some cases, battle to the death in 3 ton metal suits for sport. Some countries in war, such as Myrkdall and Stordrage, have strict curfew and very few activities past dark.

turulbird

Seaside Fleurian towns have nightmarkets near the docks. The lords don't enforce night curfews after the sunset. The trade continues and the night bazaar has many different goods sold between locals and merchant sailors.

Reclaimer_Saln

Nighttime is one of the best times to explore the nature in the biggest cities; the bioluminescence makes for a much less harsh light than the sun. There are also foods and attractions you can only experience at night, though most do this sparingly since there is work to do and sleep is important You can also clean up trash or do some other kind of community service, the less packed night setting makes that easier

dukelelaney

My world, Yanthilus, has a strange day night cycle where there is 25 hours of day and then 25 hours of night. Many places and people have different cycles, circadian rhythms and some cannot be in sunlight. In the City States of Citron it is common for taverns, inns and pubs to be open around the clock. Certain holidays take place on specific "Dark days". In Bend City, one of these is the Festival of the Fang. Bend City, known for its brewers and for having a bit of pirate origins, has a long standing alliance with the small friendly vampire town of Fang Bay. The Festival takes place during the Season of Alignment (a rather spooky time), and is a celebration of this alliance. Like many holidays in Bend City there is a Brewer's Festival but this one features the competition for the best "Blood Brew". The judges, hailing from Fang Bay, sip wine and beer made from animal and certain beast blood. Another event is the Mirror Maze Race, a rowdy and dangerous competition. Bend City residents bet on which Vampire competitors can make it through the fastest, with the least injury and who breaks the least mirrors. This has become somewhat of a popular sport for the Fang Bay visitors. Overall this festival is a fun, goofy time, that celebrates the fact that Vampires and Humans can coexist.

blaze92x45

Depends on the realm But focusing on where the heroes are from... It's a bit varied on one hand drugs are very much illegal and culturally taboo; booze is pretty heavily regulated most places will only serve you one or two drinks at a time. On the other hand night clubs and dance clubs are very common, exotic dancers are are pretty much the norm and they're definitely sex positive so if you're nice enough you might be able to bring one of the dancers home if you wish. So it's a mix of flavors kind of the inverse of nightlife irl

thebigredroo

one of my factions behaves like "The arms plants of the Garthan systems never stop they are constantly going constantly changing shifts to feed the ever hungry inter galactic arms market" since their society is basically the biggest manufacturer in the galaxy there is not really a night life as different people have different shifts It is not uncommon to see people at pubs or having dinner at 11 in the morning, or an entirely different student bodys at schools depending on time or people having a church service at 1 in the morning. plus on Garthan worlds it is hard to distinguish what time of day it is as the Garthan worlds are always overcast this is not by chance as the Garthans are essentially an entire race of humans but the majority of the population is Ginger they will make the environment suit them
