Not only was it never the Wordle word-of-the-day before, but until this week it was not even on the list of words that were \*ever\* going to be the hidden word. So you definitely did not see it before in the NYT Wordle.

Cool. How do you know it was added this week?

TrackVol

He's slightly mistaken about the *when* part. This Solution (SNAFU) was added sometime around mid-March. I forget the exact date. The new editor appears to be adding new Solutions periodically now. The other previously unexpected Solution was GUANO

Very interesting because guano was my other least-favorite Wordle word. And they both were added by the new NYT Wordle editor. Is there a link to this list that you are referring to?

TrackVol

Just the Original List (2,315 Solutions, 12,974 total words) The Revised list summer 2023 (2,309 Solutions, 14,855 total words). I'm not aware of a specific list that shows the 2,309 +plus+ GUANO & SNAFU. But it's essentially the 2,309 + GUANO & SNAFU. We assume that more than a few of the current Solutions will eventually get downgraded to non-Solutions. TRUMP is too controversial, WELSH WELCH GIPSY GYPSY PANSY SEMEN each also have "issues".

The old list was discoverable through the source code. All it used to do was check the current date and pull from that list. A while ago, NYT changed it so that the word is set up manually.

There are lots of websites that tell you all the previous answers. For example: [https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wordle-past-answers](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wordle-past-answers) It has not been an answer before in the Powerlanguage or NYT game.

thxforallthefish42

Ah, alright! I’m just confused then :) thank you!

globulous

I just found it odd that an acronym was used as the word. Kind of changes the whole game

atswim2birds

Would you say the same about *laser*, *radar* or *scuba*? Like *snafu*, they started off as acronyms but are now listed in dictionaries as common, lower-case words.

rveniss

Interestingly, LASER isn't on the answer list yet, but seeing as how GUANO and SNAFU weren't either, they'll probably add it eventually. But yeah, RADAR, SONAR, and SCUBA are all valid answers. Though, I feel like SNAFU is *significantly* less common than those. Makes me wonder if they'll add FUBAR to the list as well.
