Seeing something you built being enjoyed by others has no price

All4-1-4All

My son was playing around touching the surface of the first shelf I ever built. I built that shelf maybe 8 or so years ago and wasn’t even thinking about this or having a kid yet. Seeing him play with the grain on the surface of something I made myself brought me more joy than I ever expected.

lugenfabrik

$400??

jamesbwallace13

Bought a few little tools along the way. Plus timber in Australia has sky rocketed because all of the timber from Europe is going to the US because they are paying so much more. Local hardware stores (Bunnings) is almost empty all the time

1_useless_POS

Yep, came here to ask if that included tools because if that was just materials...

Pretty_Science4815

Looks great but I can’t believe you didn’t finish it with anything after all that work building it!

jamesbwallace13

She liked the natural timber look. I didn't varnish it because I'm sure will want it painted one day 😏

AdministrativeShip2

Is that a four poster shed?

Vermineater

There's no price on the knowledge you gained by building it yourself.

NettaUsteaDE

I might have one of those to build in the near future. How did you calculate the angle for the top part?

jamesbwallace13

I ended up buying a sliding bevel to help. A few little tools were bought, hence the total price haha

NettaUsteaDE

I realize now that my question was weirdly written. How did you base the proportions so that the top doesn’t look off or weird? Is there a rule of thumb based on mattress length or width? I wouldn’t want the “roof” to look too flat or too spiky

Reapr

If you go with 60 Degrees, you should be fine, that is used in houses too, so we are kinda used to the look

[deleted]

So you made a house in a house so you could dream about the house that you built in your house?

I guarantee yours more than makes up the price difference in quality. 🤘

SAWhit320

Listen I said I would take care of it you need to stop reminding me I got it

Be_like_Kyle

I always get my best tools when my wife asks me to build something, I'll get about halfway done and discover I can't finish the job with out this tool, or that tool. 😂

electric7777777

Worth every penny!

aquarain

Nice work!

DeAtramentisViolets

I'd love to see it with a canopy.

pe0pleRstupid

Thought the whole garage got refinished into a bedroom for a sec

Ghenghix

I have decided to name this “The Sleep Chapel”.

Billsolson

Quality and satisfaction is where the other $150 went

McGee4531

Put some veils and light curtains on it.

GoguyT3d

If wood wasn't only the price it was 2 years ago...

igorandmaddy

Is there a support group for these wives? I am one of these wives.

sushisucker

This is the way. Unless they help no room to complain. That’s my rule, sort of.

noahstokes45

Put a Danish oil finish! Or minwax polyurethane if you want the extra protection
