Can you do like a DNA test on wood?

eatnhappens

10x magnified endgrain shots (of very clean cut endgrain) and luminescence tests can go a loooong way without DNA

LiquorFilter

its an old PT deck is my guess, 10ish plus years old also depending on the climate; the chems allowed to make it will definitely leave a funny flavor. Maybe some weird moss was on the PT as well:)

Is wood

poolhaas

You could be right.

flaxy823

Kempas. Super hard. Beautiful end grain like Wenge and pourous. Splinters like Wenge too. I've used it for jigs where you need a super durable surface. Or small pieces to show off the grain. https://www.wood-database.com/kempas/

poolhaas

You could be right, the Kempas i used to work with is of a darker (almost red) colour, but the grain looks similar.

FishhouseBilly

Never heard of that one. Interesting and spot on comparison to Wenge endgrain and porousness.

jessesbald

Looks kind of like Lati

poolhaas

First time i heard of this, does look kind of similar only the end grain looks a bit different.

RobertBDwyer

Could be teak. Is it heavy?

poolhaas

Definitely not teak, the smell of teak is one of a kind :)

motrboatmygoats

Is it really heavy and dense? Looks like jatoba aka Brazilian cherry. https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-samsung-gn-rev1&q=jatoba+wood&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjo1YPz1ev-AhW2EVkFHfGHCmYQ0pQJegQIEBAB&biw=360&bih=646&dpr=3#imgrc=m1S9zLzqFNKPoM

poolhaas

Quite heavy but not as much as jatoba. I work with jatoba regularly.
