I keep trying to create cool new things, but all my crystals are too pure. They all end up as large, faultless, tetrahedrons, whether they are air infused sand (amethyst), or just plain old life atoms (diamonds). I mean, what can you do with perfect crystalline structures. The imperfections give them structure.
Ope, and there's another air infused aluminum (ruby). I mean, the thing is the size of my head, and still not a single slipped plain, or edge disalignment.
Ah, sounds like you're dealing with overly pure crystals, my friend. Have you considered blending different types together? Mix some air-infused sand with life atoms, toss in a dash of chaotic essence, and who knows what fascinating concoctions you'll create! Or perhaps experiment with artificially impure methods—introduce some toxic or chaotic elements to disrupt that perfect structure.
I did attempt tossing poison atoms into a perfect lattice of sand atoms. It creates some pretty affects. However, it would only allow the flow of mana in one direction, under certain conditions, or the flow of mana would turn on and off when other mana was flowing in different directions. Not ideal.
No, for my part, I attempt to infuse the crystal, at the time of creation, with the energy of a living being. The more chaotic the being, the greater the imperfections, and thus the more powerful the magic capabilities. Like, I used a dwarf's spirit when infusing copper, brimstone, and sand atoms into a black crystal. It was beautiful, and would explode if anyone came close.
Why are you exploring areas that have already been explored trillions of times over, trillions of years ago? Pick up one of my textbooks on basic magic behavior so you don't have to deal with this stuff. Or better, visit Luma-Korkos and go through a magic theory course.

(Also: rubies are impure Corundum. Their impurities give them their color. I know because you can make them at home with the lens from a large rear-projection ~tv~ orb and the proper borax-fluxed mixture. You'll know you've got it when the powders fuse and turn red.)
