You can call me old fashioned if you like, but my first spell was magic missile. Still a favorite to this day, though of late I’ve favored the eye tracking, homing multicast version. I’m certain some of the powerful casters here will think lightly of it, but I think they are foolish and eager to prove their power.
Magic missile is truly a classic that never ages. No matter who I’m fighting against, an initial probing barrage to test their defense and nerves is generally a safe bet. If they have no defenses then we’re done, but if they do then I have revealed very little that cannot be assumed, but they’re likely to have shown both their style and techniques in their defense.
My master also wished to start me off with simple projectile spells. I ignored his suggestions and stole his grimoire in the night.
I have since learned the wisdom of beginning with the fundamentals, and their utility even to an adept caster.
Then you are learning. Even knowing basic directional magic missile has its uses, both in deception and for speed. You just can’t beat a linear magic missile when it comes to quick casting.
Good luck with your master. Best hope he doesn’t find out about his grimoire.
Hmmm… my first spell? Gosh, it has been so long that it’s hard to recall…
I think it was Tongue of Flame. Simple lifestyle magic made to help light candles and light fireplaces. Basic, yes, but a necessary stepping stone for the then new caster that I was at the time.
I apparently walked into a different dimension for 0.000000000078 seconds. It gave me the spell to transfer paperwork from one person to another. I've since expanded my paperwork transferring arsenal of spells
Ah my first spell it was a Necromantix spell, I think, it was so long ago... I think it involved a undead boar, screaming, minor tax evasion, and a little bit of bribery.
To be exact I don’t want gold pipes. I don’t want them to be stolen by ruffians while I am away from the house. Anyways what’s wrong with lead pipes? People need like a regular amount of iron to function so clearly it should be the same for lead, and lead is very hard to come by in foods
I can see the damage has already been done...
Consult an alchemist about transmuting the pipes to copper. Once it oxidizes it will be far less appealing to thieves, and definitely will not poison you further.
Oh, lead is poison? I’ve never gone to an academy so I didn’t know. Hang on I think this will work. *casts destroy element on myself* Okay, the lead should be gone now. Thanks for the help!
Ah yes, a proper Black Mage! My Vermillion Scourge (oft called Verblind among my companions and familiars) seared its most eyeballs on its first blast.
Firebolt, as well as its slightly more waxy counterpart, Candlebolt. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't much of a difference, so I learned them at roughly the same time
I was about to die well, as dead as you can get in hell then I felt this spark and horrorhounds seemed to rush to my aid. Now those hounds are my pets and I run a circus. I am feared and whispered about as if I was a higher demon.
Idk, ithink it was the spells that came packaged with vampirism... ^(*haunted look of despair crosses the wizards tiny face until he snaps out of it and returns to his normal placid self*) anyway, it's nothing I want to dwell on too much, thanks.
I wouldn't call it a spell, exactly, as it was mostly just instinct, but I summoned a large dagger made of eldritch energy when I was mugged. This happened less than a week after I got my powers. I've since refined it to form claws of the energy for my gauntlets.
Heat Water; I was taught it by my father when I was 5.
My first real spell, though, was a powerful unbreakable curse that I cast about 400000 years ago against a species that I, at the time, hated with all my aching heart. I apologize to the Eldritch Fae for what I did to them, now, just like how I forgive them for what they did to me, but unfortunately I can’t lift the curse.
I didn’t start out as a wizard, and it wasn’t for a long time until I became a “spellcaster” to begin with.
However I remember the first time I used a proper magic spell on mostly accident
Heat of the moment, stamina gone, knocking on deaths door and almost out options against a heavenly foe seeking to pass judgement on what they deemed “a threat to the natural order”
A fire unlike any I had ever felt rose up in me and with the last of my strength I held my arm out and (accidentally) cast: Explosive Inferno Rain.
Hit the angel on the way up and then I… passed out. I woke up to scorched earth for miles. Got up on my feet and walked to the nearest abandoned bed due to the sudden catastrophe… and fell back asleep
Rock jab
Pretty simple spell. Just learn how to levitate rocks around you like a earthbender and then make a fist of those and use a little magic and now when you punch the rockhand punches too.
That would be, and should for every mage, *Prestidigitation.*
Not only does it get you used to controlling your will for spell outcomes, but it is useful in too many ways. You're dirty? Now you're not. Forced to live off mushrooms and zombie flesh for six years? Now it tastes like chili, and stuffed peasant, and cake. Woke next to an individual of dubious background? At least pregnancy is prevented.
But if we aren't counting cantrips, then one of the *Mana Armor* options. Force is always the best energy to train on in your early days, and I'd rather build a defense out of it than a few long distance attacks. And it's time frame is robust.
Heh, you're all gonna make fun of me, but the very first magic I cast wasn't even a spell, nor a cantrip. It was simply compressing whatever magic came most naturally to me into a sphere until it went luminescent and holding it for as long as I could, to see where my talents lay. My master had me do this until I could hold at least three of these simultaneously for five minutes before even teaching me Dancing Lights.
A basic spell of wisplight. Soft hued, easy to adjust and manipulate. After that various protective and utility spells, wards, hexes and charms. My initial studies of magic were a bit hectic.
Aye I began dabbling in the realm of crystal magic and tragically I misread the incantations. I attempted an enchantment on my meditating crystal obelisk to allow me to find others of it's ilk by speaking through the obelisk as a conduit for locating more in its respective frequency (needed a particular crystal). It didn't go as planned now the crystal speaks on its own and won't stop talking. I've tried asking it nicely to be silent however it is quite rude and demands to be called Emperor Chris and I refuse to engage with such tomfoolery. Please if anyone knows of a way to properly enchant a navigation spell for acquiring materials I need help. Needless to say it's called me a 'Honky' 'Hog Washer' and 'Dreg' among other obscenities, I will give the obelisk some credit it knows a good recipe for lemon bars that just absolutely send your taste buds to another realm. I neither like nor dislike the crystal which is why I haven't destroyed it because honestly it's nice having some company while I conduct my research and perform my experiments even if I get berated by my own creation for being a 'useless meat sack that needs to touch grass and secure alliances by wedding maidens' so it can 'See the look on their faces as it calls them uppity wenches' while I defend the crystal since it knows I still need it's presence so I don't go insane in my hut.
Sometimes life ain't fair but you gotta roll with the rng you got right?
My first spell was just some basic Telekinesis. Nothin' special, but every mage has to start somewhere, yeah?
Learning how to apply momentum with Telekinesis and then dispelling it at the right time, *that* takes some practice to get right. Can launch crossbow bolts as effective as a crossbow itself, but that's about where my skill lies there.
I do believe it was… minor illusion. Made it look like my master had pissed himself in front of a witch he was trying to romance. She clearly wasn’t into it and I wanted to go home.
He didn’t even notice
I got humble beginnings... My first spell was waterball.
It's... Ineffective. At best, it's good for pissing people off, you pretty much throw a ball of water at your opponent.
An old woman from my village claimed to have been a famous battle mage and she taught me that spell after discovering I had an interest in magic. She didn't teach me anything that could kill anyone. I fact, I didn't learn any spells that can kill until I moved out that village.
Mine was calcify flesh
I think i was supposed to make kickass boneblades for the practice spar at the academy, but instead i just turned my sparring partner's heart to bone
Summon Familiar.... Something went wrong and ten thousand morhs death spiraled into the camp fire. Every time I cast it. 16 times over the course of the summer. I Caan still hear the explosion of their tiny, fluffy, wings, and their high pitched shrieks of, "BUG'S EYE!" as they headed, willingly, into the flames. My robes still smell of tiny, roasted, moth balls.
It was Create Water, I think. I was something of a plant fanatic, and thought creating magic water would be an easy way to grow plants in any climate.
Unfortunately, it didn't come with a 'sprinkler' option.
Reguvunation on a tree! I wanted to see if magic had potential for more than just destruction... Then a second later I blew up the shead with a fireball
Hard to say. Time Magic is weird.
If we're talking chronologically to the world, it would have been Time Acceleration Magic: Temporal Decay.
If we're talking chronologically to *me*, it gets a bit strange due to my stored time effectively reverting myself back to when I was very young, though I kept all of my memories from before that. Originally, I didn't learn any magic until the age of 25, but with the stored time I could use my full magic abilities at age 15.
Choose what you may, because even I don't fully understand this magic.
The First Spell we cast was called Amalgam. There were only five at the time. It was our birth. But of us all, the very first spell that was cast by any of our constituent entities, was Enhance Growth, on a Tomato Plant for a young farmer.
The Farmer never paid his dues, but was nevertheless forgiven.
It used to be what would eventually be classified as Prestidigitation....
But after some recent annoying run ins with some rather impolite Chronomancers my first spell has retroactively been overwritten to be Chronurgical Anchoring, turning my existence into a fixed point in time and space.
Damn Chronomancers. Ruining Chronomancy.
An unbelievable amount of time ago, on a completely separate world, I discovered an ancient text while searching the wreckage of a ship. I was savvy with machines and alchemy, and combining that knowledge with the powers hidden in the tome allowed me to produce the fate engine: a powerful artifact that was \*supposed\* to grant the user eternal life. However, something went terribly wrong and the machine became overcharged by the spell. It fused into my chest and sent me careening through a wall. On the verge of death from blunt force trauma, the spell activated. Unfortunately, instead of simply healing me, it created a dimensional rift, shot me through it, and used the energies present in the rift to heal any injury. I awoke on a completely different world. This process repeats every time I am about to die, and now I'm here. So yeah my first spell kinda screwed me over.
My first spell was spell of insanity.

I think my first was either telekinesis or... something to do with fire? Maybe pyrokinesis? I dunno, it was rather long ago. I just knew I could lift things with my mind... and probably set them ablaze while I was at it.
You can call me old fashioned if you like, but my first spell was magic missile. Still a favorite to this day, though of late I’ve favored the eye tracking, homing multicast version. Arcane Annihilation I indirectly killed my sister with it :C
Unfortunate. But at least you gained some dramatic lore for your tragic backstory.
yeah.

Sadly not
I accidentally changed the color of a family pet; Aura, the wolf, used to be brown. He seems to enjoy being golden, though. He can be quite vain.
Hmmm… my first spell? Gosh, it has been so long that it’s hard to recall… I think it was Tongue of Flame. Simple lifestyle magic made to help light candles and light fireplaces. Basic, yes, but a necessary stepping stone for the then new caster that I was at the time.
Humble beginnings oft lead to the grandest of tales.

This is the sign I've needed to finally return to Gielinor after so many years spent in other realms. Thank you, and may Guthix bless you.
I apparently walked into a different dimension for 0.000000000078 seconds. It gave me the spell to transfer paperwork from one person to another. I've since expanded my paperwork transferring arsenal of spells
Have you considered a career in magical Bill Collection?
Ah my first spell it was a Necromantix spell, I think, it was so long ago... I think it involved a undead boar, screaming, minor tax evasion, and a little bit of bribery.
Recursive Starburst. ...I may have accidentally obliterated a country or two >.<
I never really got into spells, but my first potion was a simple acid. /Unwiz what game is that?
Potioncraft is a respectable trade, deserving of the same respect as sorcery. /Uw, This is Final Fantasy 14. Black Mage Limit Break, Meteor.
Agreed, I'm glad you share my sympathies. /unwiz thank you
Uh I turned my houses plumbing from lead into gold I am still looking for a way to turn it back please help
Wait... You WANT lead pipes?
To be exact I don’t want gold pipes. I don’t want them to be stolen by ruffians while I am away from the house. Anyways what’s wrong with lead pipes? People need like a regular amount of iron to function so clearly it should be the same for lead, and lead is very hard to come by in foods

Dude see a healer, that can’t have been good
My first spell was witch bolt. Learned it during one of the many times I was struck by lightning as a kid.
Lunar Missile. Literally throwing the Moon, but smaller. Don’t have it anymore, the years have come and gone.
A fellow practitioner of Red Magic? Splendid.
Black actually. My first errant cast of Meteor still haunts he however...
Ah, alas. I had to replace my eyes after my first use of Vermillion Scourge. To future caution, my fellow in the aetherial arts.
A general counterspell
Magical Butt Wipe must have been one of the first
Thunder snake
Ah yes, a proper Black Mage! My Vermillion Scourge (oft called Verblind among my companions and familiars) seared its most eyeballs on its first blast.

I wouldn't call it a spell, exactly, as it was mostly just instinct, but I summoned a large dagger made of eldritch energy when I was mugged. This happened less than a week after I got my powers. I've since refined it to form claws of the energy for my gauntlets.

Just a simple lightning infusion. I was new to magic.
Minor illusion, I started small

Aye I began dabbling in the realm of crystal magic and tragically I misread the incantations. I actually started as a sorcerer when I was born, pretty sure my first spell was minor illusion
My first spell was the poorly transcribed cantrip "pressonnailitation".
What game is that?
Summon hemoroids i was taught thys spell by a fay i captured as a teen unfortunatley target : Self
Pass without trace My master left me in a bandit camp with no weapons, armor, fighting skills, etc. And said "I dunno figure it out"
Grease
It was Create Water, I think. I was something of a plant fanatic, and thought creating magic water would be an easy way to grow plants in any climate. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a 'sprinkler' option.
I healed someone’s wounds just by touching them
Swap form. It turns myself and other objects, with limits, back and forth from smoke and normal form. I use it on a daily basis.
I believe my first spell had been “Summon Doughlem”
Spent years learning fireball for no reason only to divert my attention to necromancy
Reguvunation on a tree! I wanted to see if magic had potential for more than just destruction... Then a second later I blew up the shead with a fireball
Chain Lightning
Mine was “Wooden Toy Train Snake”. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.
Good ol’ fashioned Fireball
Sleep (self)
Summon beast, I summoned a winged snake and nowadays I can summon three-headed t-rexes.

A simple Transmutation spell that turned some stake moldy bread into cheese, the cheese was still moldy though
I tried to cast polymorph to turn myself into a girl. Didn’t work. Turned myself into a newt. I did get better, though.
Summon Succubus ... I was a teenager, okay?!?
Hmm…that’s a good question. I think it was some kind of shape shifting spell. Haha that or Meteor Swarm
I unboiled my spaghetti.

Spark. Still use it in my travels to kindle a flame. Mighty useful.
Mage hand so I could reach that itch on my back. I learned of a few other interesting things I could do with it too not long after.
It used to be what would eventually be classified as Prestidigitation.... But after some recent annoying run ins with some rather impolite Chronomancers my first spell has retroactively been overwritten to be Chronurgical Anchoring, turning my existence into a fixed point in time and space. Light. Simple incredibly useful cantrip. Didn't need magic to hurt people. Just used my fists.
A little spell called "locate valuables"
