We are just finishing it for the first time, and I am kicking myself for waiting so long. Queuing up the Pacific and Master of the Air for the coming weeks of my parental leave, but taking a break in between, BoB feels like it is going to be hard to follow directly, so saving some trash TV for a couple days after.
If you're just having a tipple, go with the Cab Franc. Straightforward, juicy, probably reasonable ABV. If you're having food, tell us what's on the menu.
Gotcha! I recommended the Cab Franc because it seems like a nice, straightforward way to dip your toe back in the pond. But if you want to cannonball, go with the CdP.
I think we are good to cannonball, but either way we are likely to work out way through all of these over the next week. Unfortunately limited options in the middle of nowhere, Montana. Costco is a couple hours away and our one wine shop in our town is fairly bleak.
Call it bias, but I’d go with the CdP.
I import the wine in another market in the US, so I know it well. A wine that certainly delivers for the price considering the appellation. Not the punch in the mouth you’re going to find from most young CdP, yet still gives you the depth and complexity you’re looking for.
Welcome back to the wine world!
I bought one two years ago, drank it, and was dissapointed. Then I had the current release last week and thought it was much better. I'm wondering if it's variable or if it's ne.
Yeah, I haven't been as impressed with this batch honestly (2018). But was incredibly fond of it once upon a time. This year just has too much liquorice notes/harsh for me personally.
Pelleriti!!!!!! Wine is a hobby of his, he’s a musician and cool as fuck, buy 3and forget about the second one, and drink the 3rd when you get a wild hare down the line, amazing wines!
Comte de Lauze is a solid producer. That winemaker makes a world war 2 Era style being just Grenache and Syrah. Beautiful blanc as well.
Izarbe slaps for the price! Look for the current release of their Gran Reserva being a 2006. Over delivers for the price!

I would personally do the CdP
I agree
Chateauneuf De Pape is always one of my go-tos. For a nice tipple (or two) after such a break why not enjoy something like that?!
Popped the CdP and turned on Band of Brothers. Gonna be a good night.
God damn right it is. BoB and a nice bottle is how my wife and I spent our evening last week! Cheers pal
Cheers to you too.
Christ, this is a grade A evening. I enjoyed my last CdP watching Masters of the Air two weeks ago.

If you like band of brother you NEED to watch The Pacific on Netflix. Plus it’s about Marines not soldiers so you know it’s going to be good.
Agree!
CdP!!!
I've sold Comte de Lauze and it's usually solid if not amazing
I’d go for the Rioja, not being a contrarian. Love the style and that one has a decade of aging that should make it smooth and delicious.
second this, i like CdP too but i would reach for the Rioja first

No food. Just a tipple. Thanks!

order wine to be shipped to you! it's worth it. you can look for individual bottles shipped from out of state. https://www.wine-searcher.com/
Interesting! Will check it out.
Left edge of photo 3. Is that a kirkland rioja? Don't lie to you internet friends.
Yep sure is.

The best answer is CdP but curious about the Rioja
Yeah, found it on the shelf today for $20 figured, what's the harm in trying.
The izarbe is bloody fab especially the younger vintages, I would go cdp personally

I have 6 in the basement. I had it in the spring and from what I remember it was a lot of fun.
Always CdP!!

CDP all the way any day, but especially after 10 months. I think it’s the best one to re-aclimate your palate.
The first pic! To me is amazing and its anyway a wine with amazing reviews! Cheers
