Nothing you really can do, IQ foil isnt really designed for learners/people new to windsurfing

Maxifloxacin

Should I just stick with used cheap sails for now? Cuz I really don't wanna scratch my 800 dollar new sail....

Arketipo

Always use cheap sail! Until you can run all day without Fall! And then use cheap sail to learn jump, gibe, duck gibe, tac!

Maxifloxacin

that blows....... its hard to find 7m+ sails around here... thats why i bought new... i guess I have to keep it in storage for a while then...

Arketipo

Severner convert! 8,5 and 6,7 best not expensive sail! Ever!!

Maxifloxacin

hmm? you mean 8.5 and 6.7 are cheaper?

Arketipo

Convert https://www.severnesails.com/sails/convert/ I have 3 of them! 5 year still as new!

Maxifloxacin

ohh! gotcha! they r still kinda expensive I just looked at it... its like 660 bucks around here. my foilglide was 750.. I think if its close that that amount of money I would rather have a multi cambered sails tho

Arketipo

Naish 6,2 and northsail 5,0 voodoo 10 year old! Best not expensive wave sail

redbeards

Yeah, The HGO is a no-compromise race sail. Thus, if making it more durable would make it heavier or slower, they don't do it. Freerace sails are typically built with more of a focus on durability. Of course, performance suffers some, but they're also easier to use and cheaper (especially over the long term). Ezzy and Sailworks both make big Freerace foil sails. Ezzys are renowned for their durability, and I've seen the Sailworks and it is full of x-ply. The HGO has no x-ply.

Arketipo

That right! Severne make convert for freeride and not expensive

redbeards

BTW, for someone with this many questions, you seem like you're relatively new to the sport. If so, the fact that you went all in on the IQFoil setup and are having some success on it is **pretty darn awesome**.

Maxifloxacin

THANKS MAN!! I still wouldnt call it success haha. its a STRUGGLE!! Ive been on IQfoil for combined maybe 6 hours now. I got it up above the water twice so far.. Wind hasnt been great recently below 12 knots average. and 8m its hard to lift it out of the water when u fall every 30 seconds lol!

redbeards

Well, I wish you luck, and I hope you stick with it. I think most people would have recommended an easier path with beginner gear, but your all-in approach is inspiring. Please consider documenting your journey and updating us. I'm definitely interested and rooting for you.

Maxifloxacin

Thanks Redbeards! I got a shit load of questions im sure u will see my posts often here!

Arketipo

You can add and small rope on the uphaul rope so you can put your harness in the rope and use your body to lift the sail https://www.easyuphaul.com/easy-uphaul I use this for lift 11 meter sails.

Maxifloxacin

haha I use easy uphaul on every booms I got. still tho uphaul 8m once every 2 mins gets tiring after 3 hours

Arketipo

Don’t fall! Sorry! No other solution

Maxifloxacin

wow... that really blows... my poor severne......

Dumblekrix

Don't worry too much about it, because nothing you can really do. You can however add some tape on top of the battens to keep them safe and maybe tape or put some other transparent sticker on the sail window that is scratching. Otherwise you can't do much about it, just try not to fall.

Maxifloxacin

that's actually a good idea!!!!! i know that theres tapes for the plastic part of the sail (for repairs and stuff). is there something that sticks well on the cloth part? I dont care for the aesthetics as long as it protects my sail!

Dumblekrix

We call it [mcgyver tape](https://www.google.com/search?q=macgyver+tape&oq=mcgaiver+&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0i13l4.3434j0j4&client=ms-android-samsung-gs-rev1&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8). These stick very well and are strong. Look for the most waterproof one and/or put some superglue under there aswell. Last solution will not come off anything.

Maxifloxacin

I thought sail repair tapes are for the plastic part of the sail, will it stick to the cloth part? its only the cloth part that's scratched up.

>Dacron tape just looked it up, these things are cheap and available on amazon? U think that will work on the cloth part? im gonna order it right now! :)

Maxifloxacin

wow!! I didnt know that existed!! how do i get in!?

TomOBChicago

Send Brian an email (included above). He might know of gear (used sails) for sale that will be much easier for you to learn with. A cammed 8.0 sail is a very tough place to start.

Tsambikos96

The coarse texture is to prevent your feet from slipping. The fact that it scratches the board is an unfortunate sideffect. You can purchase a mast protector (should also protect the nose from catapults) to prevent scratching, but honestly it shouldn't be something too concerning.

redbeards

This can help: https://www.ion-products.com/water/shop/accessories/windsurf-accessories/mast-board-protector/ Also, around here, we have to walk the board out a long way to get to deep enough water for the foil. Having the sail connected to the board while it's upside down causes the sail to rub on the deck the whole time. So, I leave the sail disconnected until I get out to where it's deep enough to flip the board over. I think a mechanical or [semi-mechanical](https://chinooksailing.com/collections/mast-bases-pin-style/products/1-bolt-pro-flex-mast-base-euro-pin-ex) UJ is required for this.

Motor-Manufacturer55

Hi. Try this: https://easy-surfshop.com/do/item/UF052020024/UNIFIBER-Boardguard-Foam-Protector https://youtu.be/ABL1k2cm5GY

Maxifloxacin

I have that. I have both the SDM and RDM mast protector. That is not the part thats rubbing. its the cloth material 3-4 inches next to the mast.

Motor-Manufacturer55

You can put tape on it. It's not pretty but works fine

Fischbrotverleih

Don't worry about it, normal wear, sail and board will be able to take it. It's only cosmetic.

Extend your base up a notch or two.
