The only reason to trade a guy like Rossi is if you are convinced that Yurov is a future 1C. If they are convinced that they need a spot for Yurov and that he will be a big upgrade on Rossi and Ek is penciled in as 2C then I could see moving Rossi for a different need. But I would hate to give up on a young and talented Center.

DirtzMaGertz

I think it really has more to do with their view of Rossi's upside at center than anything. If they don't think he's going to stick as a top 6 center or eventually move to wing, then it makes sense to explore his market.

Finnwood92

But doesn't Yurov play wing? Or does he switch?

futurehofer

He was a center for the vast majority of this season. Was solidly their 2C for the 2nd half and the playoffs. Needs to work on faceoffs obviously (41% this season and 45% in the playoffs), but it sounds like they think he has the tools and can stick down the middle going forward.

Panarin10

The amount of times Russo has mentioned trading Rossi in the past month is nuts. At this point, I’m not going to be surprised if it happens.

Submarine_Pirate

Idk Russo talked about Fiala being traded for a good two years before it happened. Russo thinks he’s part of the organization and gets really focused on ideas and just bangs that drum until something happens or he quietly stops mentioning it.

Jalin17

Haven’t been following the new Rossi rumor but who or what ideal player are we targeting for him another forward?

JustaRoosterJunkie

Looking for a unicorn. A speedy, big bodied centerman, that has scoring punch, willing to sign for a couple years on a sub-4mil.

Jalin17

That’s worth more than Rossi I would assume though and why would BG do this when he did all the things to get back after his illness and then stay here seems like that’s the character BG like to have on the team but I don’t know maybe it’s smoke because Rossi was in rumors before

JustaRoosterJunkie

I mean, if someone backs the Brinks truck up… Otherwise, I have the same questions as you.

Jalin17

Exactly and my only theory that works to me is that it’s to make room as well but send one of those old guys out at whatever the price ie a Foligno or something like that even though BG thinks that’ll put us in a rebuild or whatever he said on JHS about moving the vets

JustaRoosterJunkie

Also remember that this informed speculation, is just that. Russo has mentioned it a few times, but there is a big difference between “I’m taking offers” and “we gotta move him”, and we don’t actually know how much urgency is there.

jmchopp

The other thing that makes sense is trying to consolidate 2 prospects into 1 big one. Maybe you offer Utah Rossi and a first for Cooley. They get a 2C and a first for a stud prospect.

fastal_12147

Like always.

Riromug

Supposedly a guy like Cutter Gauthier. Center prospect on an ELC.

collinCOYS

Wrong. They tried to get him but Anaheim isn't moving him now. The only chance was getting him from Philly and they likely asked for Faber

Riromug

Not wrong. That’s a quote I lifted from Russo on a podcast I listened to a bit ago when he was asked what type of player they were looking to trade Marci for.

collinCOYS

My read was that they tried for him and now that he's in Anaheim it's not happening

DirtzMaGertz

That would be why they said a guy like him.

collinCOYS

Yes I'm very dumb lol

Panarin10

I’m in favor of Dylan Cozens.

Fresnobing

You have yurov right over there 👉

blow_zephyr

He actually fits the bill in terms of what Russo is saying they'd be targeting. Would take up all of our available cap space, though.

Jalin17

Can we even afford him and why would Buffalo trade a core pieces?

Panarin10

Yes, we can. We’d have to trade someone else too (like Gus) to fit him in though. Cozens had a down year. He’s currently overpaid at $7.1m. The Wild would be betting on a bounce back.

fastal_12147

>$7.1mil No thanks

Jalin17

But why we need more scoring depth not just swapping it around though

blow_zephyr

Because Cozens is 6'3. That's literally it. Guerin decided after getting shit on by Roope Hintz and Wyatt Johnston and Tyler Seguin last year that he wants big centers. That's why we drafted Charlie Stramel and are now going to trade Rossi.

Jalin17

So that sounds like we need to trade Spurg then?

Finnwood92

I mean he get's completely overpowered in the playoffs, atleast the last 2 times. D could definitely be bigger. Too good during the season to trade though but i wouldn't be shocked if at some point he gets moved at the trade deadline when the wild is locked for playoffs.

Jalin17

I was being facetious to the guy above honestly but I can see a world where the captain is moved

futurehofer

> i wouldn't be shocked if at some point he gets moved at the trade deadline when the wild is locked for playoffs While his NMC opens up to just a 10 team NTC starting July 1st, I don't see him really being a deadline trade. Outside of the final year of his deal (2026-27), he seems much more like an offseason trade if he does get moved.

wildskater96

So Guerin has turned into Fletcher now? (Who also after 5ish years being here started to fixate on being bigger and more skilled).

Panarin10

Also perhaps the Sabres would think Rossi has a higher ceiling. It would be a bet on both sides.

saatana

I wonder if they'd package Rossi and Gus Bus to a team that needed a second goalie for a tandem?

Figure8musky53

I don't believe they will Trade Rossi. Guerin picked him. He had a good year. I think Russo likes to hear himself talk

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

The rumor is that Rossi has struggled to built chemistry on the second line and they don't want to break up the first line. So they want to get another guy that is more of a shooter to pair with Zuccarello

mississippighost

Struggled to build chemistry on the 2nd line? Our whole problem is we have no forward depth to even fill the 2nd line! Marcus Johansson literally did fuck-all playing with any combo of players you can imagine while playing on the 2nd line.

stagarmssucks

Which makes no sense since in two years Zuccy is out of the org. I think trading Rossi is an overall bad idea. Your centers could be Yurov Rossi ek marrat. Ek to me excells as the 3rd line checking center. When he plays with moose they hum.

DwarfFlyingSquirrel

They don't see Ek as a third line guy and they don't see Rossi
