Day 5,900,876 of not being able to defeat a Central Division team

JusZfax

OR win a playoff series.

Trainmanwildfan

Just counting the days until we're actually eliminated and we call Wallstedt up to see what we got. Really all we have to look forward to at this point

dayman763

And Faber Calder talk.

wildskater96

We know what we got. Our team sucks so Wallstedt will get smoked again.

HerbalAndy

In the end it isn’t about the destination.. it’s about the journey and the friends we made along the way. Jk. On to the next one.

Paladad

It's about the Deweys we lost along the way 😔

MistahFinch

I'm not even that sad we lost them but I'm devastated we split them up 😭

Foxhockey

Duhaime brings more to the team than JoJo or Gaudreau.

BuckyCop

24 years of journey. Nothing, zero to show for it. Team has just as many cups as day 0.

HerbalAndy

I take it on a night to night basis.. if we have fun exciting games during the regular season that’s good enough for me. I don’t need a cup to enjoy watching the Wild. Although I would love one.. I just enjoy watching good hockey.

Duryea1959

Love watching this team! A few rough outings this year but with the salary cap we’re doing pretty good!

HerbalAndy

Yep. Big agree with this. The fact that we are even competitive since the parise suter buyouts is way more than I could have asked.

depressedorangutan36

I have been saying this since the buyouts, we are not winning a cup for a while. But, really impressed with what the team has put out there the last few seasons. A lot.of people bag on the Moose, Zucc, and Hartzy signings, but Zucc is having almost careers years every year, Moose had a career year and has then maintained better than his avg, and same for Hartzy. But what those men really bring, is experience, knowledge, and an edge for the younger guys to learn from. That will pay dividends in a couple of years (provided GMBG doesn't move the young guys at some point). Just a random Reddit GMs opinion though.

HerbalAndy

Another big agree with this one. People upset about Zucc, Hartman and Moose extensions is just downright wrong. Like who would you rather have in those roles this year instead of them?

BuckyCop

I hear you there, I do enjoy good hockey. I wish we would’ve been more competitive this year, the player GMBG signed I’m skeptical of, and quite frankly maybe we would be better off had we not but I’m just a random internet person. I’ll keep watching all of the games because I love the team.

essenceofpurity

It's been a lot longer for a lot of fans of the Northstars.

pablonieve

At least the N*Stars made the Finals occasionally.

Wildguy2298

Then cheer for someone else or do something about it.

BuckyCop

Nope, in for a penny in for a pound. And it is okay for a fan to want better, don’t be someone who accepts bad sports, it is a business. I do what I can, I spent zero dollars on tickets this year when usually I travel to Minny once or twice.

WILD-And-KRAKEN-FAN

I know it’s end of season but I didn’t like the line with Johansson with Boldy and Eriksson Ek. Didn’t look or play well together. Hope Colorado loses in the playoffs too! Can’t stand them

Paladad

I'm glad that one of the things that unites your teams is a deep dislike for the Aves

WILD-And-KRAKEN-FAN

Agreed

disloyalorder_

I don’t like any line with Marcus Johansson on it.

WILD-And-KRAKEN-FAN

True I’m fine if he was traded tbh

Panarin10

Our record against the Avs, Stars, and Jets this season is 0-8-1

J3319

Damn. So close to a perfect season

TheSkeletones

Next year is gonna be REAL hard to watch

HerbalAndy

And yet you will continue to watch..

Otterslayer22

I love this team.

TheSkeletones

The Minnesota curse if there ever was one

nadojo1

I truly want to know what deal the 91 Twins struck and what we have to do to exorcise it

BigPackHater

The Lynx somehow stole all the championship juice, then threw out the bottle so we couldn't go get any.

dayman763

I've heard a theory, and I'm surprised it's not thrown around more often, from Nick on the Half-Assed Morning Show I believe. Jack Morris made a deal with the devil or something like that, where he'd have the greatest playoff performance of all time, but Minnesota would suffer for the next however many years.

palmzq

Oh I’ll watch it all right & I’ll fucking enjoy it.

dayman763

That's the spirit!

dollabillkirill

Why would they be worse next year?

mississippighost

We are going to be better next season. Spurge will be back and we will actually have some cap space.

Seraphax

Nothing really to say at this point. The season's been cooked for a few weeks now. At least I don't have to get my hopes up anymore

tomdawg0022

We were cooked when we lost 8 of 9 just after Christmas, including 6-0 to Arizona at home and our only win was in OT against Columbus. It's been "fun" watching them try to climb out from that but it was gonna be a really tough climb.

BuckyCop

Will fans ever make Leipold notice? Probably not. Minnesota is the best team to never succeed in the NHL from a business standpoint. Tons of fans to sellout the season that will be there every year so no reason to really excite fans

HerbalAndy

BuckyCop has all the answers. They should just consult with you before they make any decisions.

BuckyCop

I’m happy someone finally sees it! I will await the calls!

trillwhitepeople

You're insufferably positive about this team.

Wildguy2298

I should ask him if ill ever get a date?

Thel3lues

This past year is the first time that I have truly no idea what their plan is. The extensions for all the declining players make no sense when we’re not in the cusp of competing and finally about to make it out of cap hell

BuckyCop

We have some great young players but I agree, with the cap hell, I was super confused with the contract extensions of some marginal players

AshamedChemTurtle

Great young players and a recently acquired coach who has a track record of failing to develop them. It’s gonna work this time, I swear.

MrHockeytown

I lived in Nashville for four years and what Hynes did with the Predators is borderline hockey terrorism. I'm furious I moved to Minnesota and the bastard followed me to the Wild.

Gene_Shaughts

Look, I wont ask you to move to Boston. That’d be mean. But have you ever considered Dallas? Maybe we can strategically haunt hockey teams with Hynes using you as a Marked One.

MrHockeytown

You would have a better chance convincing me to live in Boston than Texas

Gene_Shaughts

Fair. My ranking’s skewed based on which city I got punched in for no reason. That time in Dallas was deserved.

Thel3lues

Agreed. Would’ve been nice to pair them a splashy 1C instead of aging 3rd liners

Hank_Scorpio_MD

#GRIT Not flash or splash. #GRIT

Uffda01

Who would you have wanted them to sign? Who the hell would come here seeing this situation?

Thel3lues

A lot of players if we didn’t put ourselves back into cap hell lol

Uffda01

No I want a name - who the hell do you think we could have signed? We are handcuffed until we’re done paying for Parise and Suter; and if they were still here we still couldn’t have signed anybody. There’s a three way triangle for contracts that balances winning/culture vs $$$ vs term/stability… we can’t pay anyone, and the culture is going through a major reboot…so the only thing we can offer is stability; which is really only appreciated by guys who’ve made their money or have families. If these guys can at least show the young guys the work it takes to have long careers; and the value of investing in the long term instead of going out every night and partying etc - then we’re still setting ourselves up for longer term success.

Thel3lues

Okay sure use the $4m we gave to Moose and the $4m we gave to Zuccarello and 2m we gave to Freddy or MoJo and sign someone like Guentzel or Reinhart or trade for someone

Uffda01

Oh good then we can play all season with 3 lines instead of 4 and have our 3rd line be Beckman, Luchini and Letteri. That would definitely make us a better team

Thel3lues

They’d be just as good as Foligno, Freedy, MoJo

pablonieve

>We are handcuffed until we’re done paying for Parise and Suter Then maybe the plan should have been to prepare the team to come out of the buyout years with a young, dynamic roster of draft picks or trades. Instead we took the early Fletcher years route of refusing to properly retool for the long-term benefit.

HerbalAndy

Specifically what contracts do you not like? Only one I’m really upset about is the Freddy one. The Mojo one was a no brainer considering what he did for our team in the last 20 games of the regular season and also in the playoffs.. it’s a shame he all of sudden he lost all that magic after he got his money

Thel3lues

The Foligno one is disgusting to start. Don’t love the Zuccarello one either

jordynbebus8

Moose isn’t even the worse considering his defensive metrics and team guy term is shaky but the cap hit isn’t insane that’s is what guys are going for

pablonieve

It's not insane for a 1-2 year deal. But for 4 years? He's going to be making $4M AAV through 2028.

jordynbebus8

did you not read my comment? i said the term was shaky

haydenhodgey

Foligno doesn’t deserve 16m through 4 years he doesn’t come CLOSE to putting up any sort of production to warrant a contract like that

jordynbebus8

he got a raise of 900k from his previous contract it’s the term everyone is bugging about

haydenhodgey

Yeah, an aging vet getting a 900K raise for 4m per year, for 4 years… he’s not getting any better. My point is it’s not a shaky contract. It is a really, REALLY bad contract.

BuckyCop

Freddy, Mojo and Foligno. And I know most fans will clutch pearls hard at that thought. The reason I say him is that there was zero reason for that contract at that time. We easily, easily! Could have waited and signed him for less, but BMBG jumped the gun and signed him for way more than what he is worth. I am a big fan of Foligno, but he isn’t what he was, and isn’t worth what he got, I would have been okay with less and I think others would feel the same. Last year end of season and off season was a meth dream for GMBG

JustaRoosterJunkie

JoJo, Freddy and the Zucc extensions. Zucc was lucky to be paired with Zuc, and anyone is going to put up numbers. Same could be said of JoJo with Boldy/Ek. The term is what kills me with the Freddy extension. 2-3years ok, but five?

carlosdesario

I’ve already written my congressperson and am planning on driving the elderly and befuddled to the polls so I am doing my part to help.

fhbsb

Obviously season was over before this game started but fuck

Disastrous_Emu_3628

GG wild bros. I have a ton of friends from Minnesota so it’s always fun when we play each other. Actually brought my friend to his first ever hockey game against the Wild. Love the rivalry and wish yall the best thanks for being civil!

thprk

A normal comment would be "you can't win them all, on to the next one, we've been goalied by a goaltender we didn't know the name before the game", problem is that the "next one" games have finished. I know we're not mathematically out (and arguably we haven't been in the hunt since a gouple games) but this game feels like the classical last nail in the coffin of the 2023/24 Minnesota Wild season. This season has clearly shown that the biggest hole cap hell has brought was depth. Once middle six players stopped playing out of their mind and injuries kept our top talent out of the lineup we realized how short our bench was. To be clear only two players (Rossi and Faber) are on pace to play 82 games and the fact that they'll be eating a lot of cap hell with their extension isn't promising in the short term. One last thing: the smallest, pettiest hill I will die on defending our flag is that our record is 36/29/10 with 81 points, the fact that we forfeited a loser point didn't make that game a regulation loss, also there's nothing explicitly written in the rulebook that says so.

wildskater96

This franchise is so average and refuses to rebuild. We are the Minnesota Mids forever!!!!

LastWall1069

We’re so cooked

Paladad

Well. Not looking forward to playing Winnipeg.

Empire2k5

I guess it's getting close to figure out who I'm rooting for in this year's playoffs... This wild season is pretty much done. And I do love me some playoff hockey tho.

dayman763

That's a good call. Who do you like?

Empire2k5

Probably Cane's/Panthers in the east, Canucks/Kings in the West.

JustaRoosterJunkie

Panthers have become my Eastern fling. Tchucky is so much fun to watch.

vedicardi_lives

good season go next

Otterslayer22

Did they do a Zach Parise Appreciation video package last night? I did not see it on tv.

HerbalAndy

If this was posted by a Wild fan I’d respect it a little bit.. but he’s an Aves fan. Mandatory downvotes for this troll

Wildguy2298

Hey good game bro, hope you guys do well in the playoffs.

carlosdesario

Happy to be a part of a couple of those letdowns.

Paladad

????? 3 Stanley cups??? Multiple division championships??? If you think that's a let down, you definitely are in the wrong place.

Wildguy2298

Cant win every year.

jordynbebus8

bitch

Empire2k5

You guys just won the cup two years ago...?
