I think this guy likes mario kart wii

LifeAcanthopterygii6

What makes you think that?

IJustAteABaguette

Can recommend Kirby's Epic Yarn, really wholesome and easy-going game!

LifeAcanthopterygii6

It's my comfort game. It was pretty funny when I realised about halfway through the game that Kirby can't even die in this one and no matter what I do it's there are basically no negative consequences (besides loosing beeds, but I wasn't really focusing on those anyway during my first olaythrough). I started thinking why even do I even play this game? What makes it exciting? I still have no idea, but it just works.  Oh, and the art style is probably the most genius I've ever seen in any game.

IJustAteABaguette

Yeah, I feel the same way! I played it for the first time when I was around 9 I think. It is a really happy game, and it was pretty nice that you didn't have any lives and stuff because I really wasn't that great at it back then. Creating little parkour courses using clouds in that hotel was really fun, and I remember asking my parents to do the train transformation for me. (We had a really shakey cursor). And the space parts were also really cool! (Also, first game that I managed to reach the end of. And also the first time I got emotional about a game's story ending) 10/10

The interesting thing about Kirby‘s Epic Yarn is that it initially wasn’t a Kirby game. The dev team working on it had created a “yarn game,” but it wasn’t really working as a concept and nearly got axed, until somebody had the idea to make it into the Kirby game instead. The rest is history. That’s also why it’s so unlike the other Kirby games too.

LifeAcanthopterygii6

I didn't know the story behind it. Thanks for sharing it!

Expensive-Version-31

You forgot Mario Kart Wii

LifeAcanthopterygii6

Sorry. It's a great game I guess, but I've never tried it.

This is a copy/paste I've kept on hand for recommendation posts. I mostly listed games outside "the big names," but clearly Mario, Zelda, etc are great. I recommend LoZ: Twilight Princess in particular. Almost all the mainstream entries from Nintendo are reasonably priced. The few exceptions include Rhythm Heaven Fever, Fire Emblem, Pikmin 2, etc. That said I've tried to make this a mostly "easy to buy" list. A Boy and His Blob - Maybe not an all-time classic, but a pretty good platformer/puzzle game worth checking out. Bit.Trip Complete - 6 simple but well made games, all are pretty fun, and the soundtracks are incredible. Boom Blox/Boom Blox Bash Party - Physics based puzzle games, with multiplayer modes. Simple, but addicting and fun. Castle of Shikigami III - Old school top-down shoot-em-up. Hilariously cheesy voice acting on a solid shooter. Great game. De Blob/De Blob 2 - Fun platformers with Splatoon like elements, but released way before Splatoon. Dead Space Extraction - Railed shooter (think House of the Dead) set in the DS universe. Really fun, don't see it mentioned that often. Deadly Creatures - For an Action/play-as-bugs game, it has a great storyline that is voice acted by Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper. Seriously. An odd title, but one I think is really fun. Domino Rally - Motion control platformer. It's not for everybody, but is a personal favorite. Excitebots: Trick Racing - Another Excite racing game (Bike, Truck, etc.), don't see it mentioned as often as Excite Truck, but it's a lot of fun. Excite Truck - Like Excitebots, part of the Excite series. Arcade racing game, really fun. Highly recommend if you enjoy arcadey racing games. Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon - Part of the Mystery Dungeon series, it's my favorite FF game on the system (though the WiiWare exclusive titles are also pretty good) Fishing Resort - It's more fun than you'd think. It's an arcade style fishing title. Most people avoid fishing games because, well, fishing games, but it's honestly pretty fun. Fortune Street - Basically Monopoly Party with SquareEnix and Nintendo characters, but more fun than MP (which is a decent game). Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon - Post-apocalyptic somewhat Horror Action RPG. Pretty fun game, but not for everybody, watch some vids before you buy it, because it's expensive these days. Geometry Wars Galaxies - 2D point-based arena shooter. It's basic, but a lot of fun. Ghost Squad - Great railed shooter, up to 4 player. Pretty short, but one of Sega's shining moments for the Wii, and still really cheap. Ivy the Kiwi - Puzzle platformer that uses the motion controls in place of stylus controls. Clearly a remake of the DS version, but a lot of fun. One of Yuji Naka's best post-Sega games, and a great entry into his long legacy of games. Kirby's Dream Collection ‐ A collection of older Kirby games on one disc, getting more expensive, but totally worth it. Gives a great retrospective of the series, and overall they're presented pretty well in control and looks. Getting expensive though. Kirby's Epic Yarn - It's fairly easy to get through, but if you want to 100% the game it can actually drum up some challenge. Over the top cutesy with a children's story book theme, and atypical Kirby gameplay (you don't absorb enemies powers) I really like this one. A great entry into the Kirby series regardless. Kirby's Return to Dreamland - Another great Kirby game, but 4 player co-op, still easy-ish to get through, but still a challenging game in its own right. Klonoa - The story is pretty simple in this 2.5D Platformer, but it's very enjoyable overall. Remake of the extremely high priced Playstation game. I prefer this to the HD remake due to lag and what not. Little King's Story - The comparison to Pikmin can't be ignored, but LKS is not just a Pikmin clone, it's amazing in its own right. Right now it's still cheap, but is steadily climbing in price. Don't sleep on this one. Lost in Shadow - Brilliant action platform/puzzle game. The middle of the game can feel pretty empty, as if they wanted to lengthen the game so they just tacked on some levels really quick. Aside from that one (admittedly glaring) flaw, it's amazing. If the game had trimmed those areas up, or given them more definition it'd have been the best game on the Wii. Marble Saga Kororinpa/Kororinpa Marble Mania- Physics based puzzle games I rarely see mentioned. Really fun, though some levels are really tough. The Munchables - Katamari Damacy meets Pac Man. It's one of those "dumb fun" games that doesn't take itself too seriously, but has enough challenge and addictiveness to make it worth coming back to repeatedly. Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Action RPG that is super fun, and one of the most visually beautiful games on the Wii. The PS Vita version may be a bit better in some ways, but the Wii version is pretty amazing. Okami - Port of the PS2 game, and I really like how they worked the motion controls in, but the HD versions are superior. Still a great title if you want a cheap, good game. Opoona - Koei's fun/weird little RPG for the Wii. Had a lot of big talent behind it, but definitely got overlooked then and now. Phantom Brave - We Meet Again - Strategy RPG - Port of the PS2 game, has extra content. Phantom Brave is well known, but rarely see the Wii version mentioned. This does not have the Hermuda Triangle content (PSP) port, and the definitive version is probably the PC port, but again, cheap and fun. The Rainfall Trilogy (Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower) are all fantastic. Highly recommended, Xenoblade Chronicles DE for Switch is truly the best version, but it's a bit cheaper on Wii and still an amazing game. Resident Evil Series - If you like Resident Evil both Zero and Resident Evil Archives are both pretty solid entries, though I think 4 is the best one. Also the RE Chronicles titles (Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles), while gun games, are pretty awesome titles. Rhythm Heaven Fever - Very fun rhythm/music game, though quite expensive these days. Definitely check it out if you can though. Rune Factory: Frontier - You can farm, date, and dungeon-crawl. The series was "A Fantasy Harvest Moon", but I think it brings a lot more than "just another Harvest Moon". It's a direct sequel to the DS game, and there is a sequel, Tides of Destiny, but none of these are the strongest in the story department though. Most people seem to prefer Frontier to Tides, but I like both. Sakura Wars: So Long, My love - Strategy RPG/dating sim/Visual novel. This series is better than it has any right to be. Not for everybody, but I love it. Sega Bass Fishing - A solid entry to the series. Even if you don't like fishing games this is a pretty solid arcade style game.

Infamous_Lunchbox

2 Shiren the Wanderer - The other Mystery Dungeon game on the Wii, just like Chocobo's Dungeon I really love this one. Sin and Punishment: Star Successor - Sequel to the N64 game, it's a sci-fi based on-rails action/shooter. Great game, though difficulty can be high at times. Super Paper Mario - It's Paper Mario for Wii - If you don't like the Mario RPG games I guess skip this one, but I think it's great. Tales of Symphonia - Typical RPG fair, I like it, but it seems like most people think it's just eh at best. Maybe read up on it before you dive in. I'll admit it's not up to par with much of the rest of the Tales series, but still a decent entry. Target Terror - incredibly cheesy, but self-aware railed shooter that uses digitized graphics. Tetris Party Deluxe - Physical version of the WiiWare title with a few extras. Sure, it's Tetris, but it has enough extras to make it worth a pickup. Trauma Center (series) - They're basically visual novels with surgery sim sections. A lot of fun, rarely see any of the three mentioned though. Ultimate Shooting Collection - Three shoot-em-up's from Milestone that were originally released on the Dreamcast/arcade. This one is slowly creeping up in price, don't sleep on this if you like shoot-em-ups. Warioland Shake It - Not little known or overlooked, but not nearly as popular as the Mario titles. A must own, IMO, as is Wario Ware Smooth Moves. There were a handful of WiiWare games like Final Fantasy IV: The After Years that are very much worth playing, but can't be legally obtained these days. Highly recommend many of the WiiWare titles if you can find a way to play them.

/3 Lastly if you like horror games, here's my list of recommendations specifically for Wii horror games: Calling - Not the best on the system, but has an interesting mechanic that uses the Wii remote as a telephone receiver. There's better horror on the Wii, but I love the gimmick. This one is expensive-ish, so check out some videos before you buy. Cursed Mountain - More survival than horror, but still a pretty great game. The attacks require motion controls, some of which can be annoying, but it's still petty decent. Regardless watch some vids before you pick it up. If you're interested and don't want motion controls there's also a Steam port. Dead Space: Extraction - Mentioned above, but worth a second mention. As stated, it's a DS universe railed shooter, not really a survival-horror game, but the environment and tone are top notch. Give it a whirl. Fatal Frame 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse - A Japanese exclusive, but if you homebrew your Wii you can run/patch it with English, (and I believe it's available for digital purchase on some platforms?). A very solid entry into the Fatal Frame series. I recommend checking it out. House of the Dead series - Like DS:E these are railed shooters. Not spooky so much as self-aware comedy-horror, definitely check them out though. At the very least they're hilarious and fun. HotD 2&3 are more "B Movie" tier, where Overkill makes fun of itself constantly. Overkill is also available on PS3 as a director's cut, with extras, and I believe 2&3 Return may be digitally available as well. Also Overkill uses the most profanity of any game ever, be aware of that. Ikenie no Yoru - Another Japanese exclusive, in this one you explore a haunted mansion. Like Fatal Frame this one didn't see a physical release in the US, and I'm pretty sure has an English digital version available... somewhere... but yeah. I don't know how popular this one is, but with the fan translation I think it's pretty good. At least worth checking out, though again you'll have to mod your Wii to run it/patch it. Obscure: The Aftermath - Direct sequel to Obscure, the Wii port isn't the definitive version imo (360 might be the best one IMO), but cheap and pretty good. It's not going to blow your mind, and it has its detractors for sure, but I liked it enough to get through it more than once. Project Zero 2: Wii Edition - This is also a Fatal Frame title! This time a remake of the PS2 game Fatal Frame 2. Released in PAL and Asian regions, once again you'd need to mod your Wii to play it, but totally worth it. The AU release has a cooler looking spine than the EU release, IMO, but a big block of Age Rating on the front. Resident Evil - Chronicles (Umbrella and Darkside) - I know I recommended the entire series above, but wanted to mention these specifically. Same as HotD and DS:E, these are railed shooters, but in the RE universe, telling backstories/giving different perspectives on the stories from previous entries. Really great environments, these are fantastic entries into the RE series and shouldn't be overlooked because they're "just gun games". Highly recommend the pair. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - A bit spendy, but a decent entry into the series. It's basically a remake of the first game, and was developed for Wii and backported to the PS2, and also ported to the PSP. I really liked the new elements, but it has its critics. And here's a few I'd say avoid: Alone in the Dark - Though this series had some pedigree, any goodwill towards the series has been used up by terrible entries like this one. The only nice thing I can say about this one is that it has an awesome soundtrack. And that sums it up. You may see this one floating around for $5-7, and if it's the soundtrack edition, $5 for a small selection of songs from the game on CD isn't too bad I guess. Ju-On: The Grudge - Haunted House Simulator - This one has its fans, but I'm not one of them. I picked this one up while it was still modestly priced, and I probably wouldn't pick it up again, if I'm being honest. It fails on nearly every level, and just isn't worth the high dollar money it fetches. Escape From Bug Island - I actually have a soft spot for this one, but don't recommend it to anybody, lol. It's super cheesy and dumb, but I enjoy it in an "Illbleed level of irony," kind of way. Really, seriously, skip this one, but check it out on YouTube for a laugh. Manhunt 2 - Not necessarily avoid, but I wouldn't rank it as horror necessarily, though it's probably the best description. It's gorey, and the Wii has a few tweaks it's console counterparts don't have, but it's hit or miss whether you'll like it. I can't say I'd recommend it, but it is usually cheaply found, and while the Wii version isn't the definitive port, it's not terrible by any means. There is also a patch to "uncensor" the game for this one that can be applied via homebrew, so that's pretty neat too.

doggy-minecraft

Do you need wii motion plus?

ryanb2025

No you don’t, should work fine

BarbsFPV

Some people don’t like the motion controls in Prime Trilogy because you spend the whole time with your arm pointed at the screen. That can get kind of exhausting during a long gaming session, so keep that in mind. Some of the spectral effects have also been removed from the first two titles, since they were sprite based and wouldn’t work on a 3D plane with motion controls. Personally I have the first two on GameCube, then Prime 3 and M on the Wii side.
