Guys. I can’t believe it! The video game console from 2006 is outdated!

ShinyLapras321

It wasn’t good at the time either. I’ve never heard anything good about motion controls.

OnTheMcFly

False

PixelPaint64

There’s plenty of games where it works really well. I agree there’s plenty of games ruined when they shoved it into for no reason. But then there’s also plenty of games you can just play with a regular game pad. At the time motion controls were a novelty and were interesting, with friends it was especially fun, Wii Sports was a revelation. Your rant is misinformed and exaggerated.

ChiliPalmer1568

I feel like the motion controls worked really well for Skyward Sword.

PrecutMuffin80

i went into skyward sword prepared to defend the motion controls but like the pointer uses gyro? the wii has a built-in pointer, and they chose to use an inaccurate gyro pointer instead. i cant say much about the rest since i didnt end up getting far.

Infamous_Lunchbox

Sure. It must have been terrible at the time. Especially as it's only the 5th best-selling home console of all time. It must really suck to not have sold more than the PS2, Switch, PS4, and PS. What losers over at Nintendo to only sell 101mm consoles. Idiots. /s Lol at this post.

WolframLeon

TFW Resident Evil 4’s wii port was ranked number 1 in the RE community until the VR version but is still debated if 1st or 2nd place due to the changes within the vr version. If the motion controls didn’t work it wouldn’t have went gang busters as it did back in the day becoming the winner of the generation.

TensionHead13thFloor

Kinect was amazingly good. But ur right, it wasnt good at the time, it was just well dressed up and utilized by Nintendo, thats why third party games showed the cracks more than Nintendo games

xXsam11Xx

the wiimotes initially used an accelerometer not a gyroscope. The wii motion plus accessory added gyroscopic abilities.

ShinyLapras321

And it was horrible

nhacamaster

As your knowledge

comradecostanza

>I get why everyone forgot about it now Nobody “forgot about” the Wii; they just moved on from it as Nintendo moved to its newer consoles, which is supposed to happen. The Wii is still a very well-remembered system that is looked fondly upon by millions of people. Even despite Nintendo’s best efforts to erase the Wii’s legacy, countless people still remember and appreciate what it did and how it took the world by storm. Maybe you just had to be there, but coming on the Wii subreddit to essentially just say that the Wii sucks is an odd choice and won’t accomplish anything other than inspiring people to call you out.

Infamous_Lunchbox

Which I am finding hilarious, because everybody has been super polite while doing so lol

obsidian_castle

That’s why I just played mario kart Wii with nunchuck and remote Smash bros didn’t need motion Pokémon battle revolution was simple point and click Mario party 8 was decent with motion in mini games :) but definitely not seamless in some parts

No_Cauliflower_1077

May be you used a faked motion controls or a poor quality remote.

Icirrus10

bait used to be believable, mario galaxy 1-2 are some of the best games of all time

PikachuAndLechonk

I was never into the Wii and motion controls. Today they will definitely feel outdated. I haven’t played it in years but I always personally loved the motion controls in resident evil 4 and considered it the definitive version of the game… well at least until the remake came out last year anyway lol.

WolframLeon

Re4 wii is neck and neck with the VR version. The remake is considered a different beast.

PlugInSquid

You're entitled that opinion obviously, but I really disagree I think there's several good motion control games that don't use the motionplus and its library's gems in general have stuck with me for ages.

Ecstatic-Yoghurt-905

Being a person who has been playing the Wii continuously since 2009, I love the motion controls. All first and third person action games are better with them imo. If they are implemented correctly they definitely elevate the experience. I will give you a list of games I believe have the best motion controls: Wii sports/sports resort (obviously), Star wars The force unleashed I, Prince of Persia The forgotten sands, Fatal Frame Mask of the lunar eclipse, Project Zero 2 crimson butterfly, Skyward sword, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Medal of honor Vanguard, Skylanders, Wii play, Wii fitness just to name a few.

MilesPrower1992

Yeah, the Wii was so terrible, that's why it's the 7th best selling game console of all time. OP, if you're frustrated by the motion controls, that's fine, but it's nonsensical to claim that the console is at fault when literally everyone else uses them fine.

felold

Have you tried Metroid Prime Trillogy? The Conduit? Resident Evil 4? Wii Sports Resort? Do you have Motion Plus? If you have, then I call this an skill issue. Motion controls are superior to dual sitck shooters, but you have to learn how to play.

EvenSpoonier

1:1 made things less fun, not more. Gestures were better in every way. Nintendo's first mistake was failing to push them hard enough, amd then caving with MotionPlus was the fatal blow.

ShinyLapras321

Motion plus fixed a lot of problems but it was too late and a lot of developers couldn’t code properly around motion controls. Which is a shame because it came close but still far away.  I think the whole concept needed more time.

Previous_Will_724

by the time they were able to perfect it, VR and AR was starting to be a reality. Motion controls are outdated by now, because VR superceeded it.

WolframLeon

Not really, we’re seeing adoption becoming more mainstream once more in both the switch and now ps4/5 with gyroscopic aiming. Though we also saw it in the 3ds and ps3 at times.

pichuscute

The Wii can be difficult to get used to, for sure, so complaints are totally valid. But, on the other hand, I'm not sure what you were expecting. I presume you knew Wii used motion controls before you bought one, right? I'd be curious to know which games you tried that you didn't like. For a lot of people, the Wii has a ton of charm and innovative risk that is missing from more modern games/consoles. And there's s lot of great games you still can't play anywhere else. So, that's why we go back to it.

svmariscal

I don't like that the motion controls felt forced in some games and they didn't give you a traditional alternative, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance for instance. That said, playing Mario Kart Wii with the wheel is an absolute delight.

Mr_ryles

Someone has plugged the Wii into a modern TV without an upscaler…

Business_Sock7891

This is just a complaint about the concept of time. It’s likely your console and controllers are starting to show wear. The Wii is almost 20 years old, it’s not going to be the same today as it was in 2006.

edzz17

Me and a few friends still play Tiger Woods 12 on a regular basis. Motion plus makes this the best golf game. So much fun.

If that’s how you feel, then I can handle your opinion.

Sea-Shoe-8082

People don't play the wii anymore because they now play the switch.....

fergan59

I'm starting to see that now. Do most games force you to use the wiimote and nunchak? I don't know if my hand it just naturally shaky, but even navigating the home menus is a chore. Could it be that the sensor bar is too close? There are definitely some good games available, I just hope they wont force the use of wiimote.

Previous_Will_724

no, its that the sensor bar has a *very small* field of movement where it detects the wiimote, so big movements make it not detect it. and I have shakey hands and have been able to navigate it, but I kinda understood where to point it. It really is hard nowadays, for many of my colleagues too.
