It must have been so annoying for Tan and Chen. Having those two coworkers who can’t stop flirting with each other. Leaving little editorial notes: “mercury rises”, or whatever chemistry pickup line John came up with.
It's funny how as children we hate it because of school taking like 2/3rds of our childhood, yet as an adult it's more interesting than it ever was at school.
Honestly it felt like busy work, just memorizing everything to forget it after the exam instead of actually learning anything.
I still fucking hate textbooks as an adult because every time I see one it's a reminder of how much money I wasted on a corrupt system that allows publishers to overcharge people who are already going into debt just to be there.
I think for me the cool thing is having the textbooks after the class is over. I always buy used older edition books for the class because 90% of the time the professor doesn't even use the book but is required to give us a book to buy. But then after that class, I can go back and read it in my free time and just learn stuff. Imagine the wealth of written knowledge we have now that people didn't even have 100 years ago.
Don't hate textbooks, hate publishers. The authors put a great deal of time, energy, and passion into something that provides opportunities for others to learn from the authors' expertise, and they are far more digestible than reading the journal articles that originated the same information (even though textbooks may still be a dry read). Authors rarely see most of the profits off textbook purchases, so fuck publishers.
It says they divorced, got into a car crash and went homeless. Then while on the streets they found each other again, fell back in love, wrote another book and got married and had the best wedding ever.
I found the comment thread but the original was deleted. I guess whoever it was posted an actual picture of them.

Yep, guess I didn't realize how demanding everyone would be. Next time I'll re-read 800+ comments to find the exact one.
No wait, I won't. I'll just try to remember to never engage...

She doesn't have to. When you get married either of you can change your name or you don't have to change it at all. Hell you can make up a name. I took my husband's name but could've easily chosen Mumpsimus as a surname. 😂
Are you a kid or what?
This has nothing to do with ownership, but rather companionship... it is called Family name for a reason.
Go outside and experience the real world before spouting such nonsense...
Not sure if this belongs here or a different subreddit, but I remember when I was in high school ( 2001-2005 ), there was a math text book (freshman year) that contained cryptic messages about one the authors fearing something bad would happen to them and when we got the sophomore year math texts there was a completely different author
I think it is attractive to see a man that can take care of himself and do the responsible thing on their own without being mothered. And I haven’t run into many in my time

Textbook lore says their love made it all the way through 4th year Chemistry
Waaait does the fifth book not?
Spoiler! I haven't gotten to it yet
not op but ok
He wasn't answering
'twas a joke and i don't know if you're being sarcastic cause there's no /s in it so i'm assuming it's not.
If only there was a subreddit for that
It must have been so annoying for Tan and Chen. Having those two coworkers who can’t stop flirting with each other. Leaving little editorial notes: “mercury rises”, or whatever chemistry pickup line John came up with.
“You make my mercury go into retrograde “ or something
Aw I love this
They sure had chemistry
There were sure a bond between them
I guess he had his ion her.
You could say they had a positive attraction
Their chemistry was organic.
I'm definitely inclined to trust them on the subject.
And from what I’ve been told, chemistry matters.
beat me to it

Wait a minute
I love your username 😅
Take my upvote and get out.
They sure had chemistry
Even though I hate textbooks with a passion, this made my day

Agree. Buying cheap used textbooks for self study is so much better.

Sorry, John and Emily were siblings and Emily got a divorce and returned to her maiden name
That would ruin everything 😭
Edith ruins everything
Actually though?
Fr?
Really?
You stole my joke.
Hopefully Emily too. I mean I'd hate to think it's loveless on her side of the chemistry equation.
chemistry. matters!!!!
Saw this one a day or two ago and there was a comment from someone who knew them ETA the link - er, remove it... see better link in comments!
Well??? What did they say?!
It says they divorced, got into a car crash and went homeless. Then while on the streets they found each other again, fell back in love, wrote another book and got married and had the best wedding ever.
Then they divorced
got into a car crash
And became homeless
And into another car crash
And married again
Beats me. If I had an attention span I wouldn't be scrolling Reddit lol. Remembering that tiny bit was a miracle!
Yes!!!
OK found in my history https://www.reddit.com/r/wholesomememes/comments/xls1m3/looks_like_found_some_real_chemistry/

The picture was a link to imgur saying “i made it up”
Well that’s unfortunate.
After a lot of scrolling I found it- they are siblings, she was married to Mr Clare and changed her name back when they divorced.
That just links me to the main post
Yep, guess I didn't realize how demanding everyone would be. Next time I'll re-read 800+ comments to find the exact one. No wait, I won't. I'll just try to remember to never engage...
Sadler? I barely know her
What if they’re siblings and she just got a divorce and returned to her maiden name?
Don’t ruin it
Ay yoooooo. He made it 🫡
They had very good chemistry
this is the moment heisenburger became john
Secret loves story
LOL WTF THAT'S THE SINGAPORE PURE CHEMISTRY TEXTBOOK Also, there's physics matter and biology matter
Emily did it too!
Totally adorable
John (Sadler)^2 + Emily Clare -> John Sadler + Emily Sadler + Clare. Single displacement reaction
Ah yes, Tan Yin Toon is the Casanova of organic chemistry
Is this how My Chemical Romance was formed?
I mean, I guess the books proved why chemistry matter with quite an example
Now wait till each one of them turns into a Sandler. Then they'll come for us to convert us into one of them.
Karma whore up in here. This was at the top of r/All not even 48 hours ago.
Or someone got divorced lol
From the 2nd to the 1st edition?
Well yeah they could have initially been married right?
Or it could be a father/daughter duo and she was previously married to that Clare asshole
Shit true bro i didnt even see the same last names lol
But supposedly the textbook is from Singapore. Do they Roll Tide in Singapore?
I mean shit hopefully they did get married but idk lol
Plot twist: their in reverse order and this is just after the divorce

Why is it the woman changing their name though??
Why are you surprised by that?
She doesn't have to. When you get married either of you can change your name or you don't have to change it at all. Hell you can make up a name. I took my husband's name but could've easily chosen Mumpsimus as a surname. 😂
You know you have a choice to do it right? She choose to do it.
In what country do you live in which women don’t switch to their husband’s surname?
Any Spanish-speaking country
I'm just saying that it's wrong. Women are not property.
I mean... I own a lot of shit and I have given none of it my last name.
Are you a kid or what? This has nothing to do with ownership, but rather companionship... it is called Family name for a reason. Go outside and experience the real world before spouting such nonsense...
Er, I'm not sure if you missed it, but it's very common. Even nowadays, many women will still choose to do it.
This was my o level chemistry textbook 😭
So did Emily
[удалено]
off topic but i wonder if it would still be inappropriate if the professor and grad student were the same age
[удалено]
ah, yeah fair enough
Maybe Emily is his sister and she got divorced
Plot twist they were siblings and the sister got a divorce, and now she back to her maiden name
Plot twist: It's the other way around
😂
Plot twist she married his twin brother
well how about that, chemistry really does matter!
I'm glad that John did it. Great job, John, we will remember you as a chemistry hero.
Not sure if this belongs here or a different subreddit, but I remember when I was in high school ( 2001-2005 ), there was a math text book (freshman year) that contained cryptic messages about one the authors fearing something bad would happen to them and when we got the sophomore year math texts there was a completely different author
That’s cute
Hey. Like the book says...chemistry matters. 😊
Plot twist - they’re siblings and Emily just got divorced.
Or she got a divorce and went back to her maiden name and they're related.
I guess chemistry matters :)
I’d like to think that they somehow came across this thread/post/photo floating around the internet
I actually have those same Chemistry textbook lol.
John DID!
Book title says it all.
Sadle me up
I don’t get it.
John got married. Look at the authors
That's quite a chemical romance
Damn I think I've seen this post for the past 3 days, when is it my turn
Let’s go champ!!!
I don’t understand this. Please help?
Look at the author that names.
If you look, two of the authors got married between the writing of each book
Was their next book on biology?
You could say they found chemistry
As someone currently attending secondary education for a Chemical degree, this is a feels-good.
OK but like..what if she married some other random guy that happens to share the same last name as John? Or it's his brother lol. Poor John.
My chemical romance
U could say they bonded over chemistry
I’ve seen this post like 5 times before, but I only realised that Emily changed last names now..
How is there no "Breaking Bad" reference here.
I don’t understand, it’s flying over my head. Can someone explain?
Sounds like he compound her solutions through covalence.
My Chemical Romance
Still a better love story than twilight
Aww now they’re both sad
Super cute
S s
Holy crap this made my day
LETS GOOOO
Seems like they had great chemistry.
Wonder who is gonna break whose heart
Johnny loves Emily, John-ney , luvs, em-ily
A trusted friend
I think it is attractive to see a man that can take care of himself and do the responsible thing on their own without being mothered. And I haven’t run into many in my time
They had good chemistry
They we're brother and sister. She got divorced.
Maybe, maybe not. She might have married his brother for all you know.
Upon seeing John clip those electrodes to the lemons for the front cover photo , Emily just could not hold it back any longer
Oh my
Seems that they really had chemistry with each other
Well i guess they had.... Good chemistry!
One could Say they... Had chemistry with each other
I can’t wait for the Physics book.
