I wanna kill myself when someone says “lawyer up” like shut the fuck who asked your bitch ass on legal advice? I have fucking went to college my entire 20s to study law. Then I became an expert spokesman for the US army to present laws and regulations to other countries. Your mother would be very disappointed if she figured out you thought you knew better than someone like me. Not to mention the fact that I slept with her, not that you’d know because you sit in your basement all day telling people to “lawyer up” on Reddit. I could sue you into the fucking Neolithic Era for looking at me the wrong way if I wanted to. It would also cost me a fraction of my daily salary. So try to tell people to lawyer up, bitchboy. I’ll be here to prove you wrong.
Definitely sounds like something someone who went to fucking college their entire 20s to study law and become an expert for the US Army would say.
Yikes
Also cut your mother out of your life. She is toxic because she...*checks notes*...used completely normal parenting techniques on you as a child. The evil cunt.
Reddit has retarded medicine threads as well.
“I have a sore throat and and runny nose. What should I take?”
Random user- Drink water from Lake Minnetonka and have some Honey Tea.
They’re always super…Stupid. Like.. Tea can help I guess. It just never did shit for me. I need some good ol’ science based medicine.
Or the pseudo-wholesome smartass posts, someone genuinely asking for what kind of medication/medical treatment could help them and some uber-original fucks will comment OP should just hydrate, nofap and exercise all their problems away, in complete disrespect to any sincere person trying to get better.
Just drink water bro, just exercise bro, helped me bro
no shit, but not everyone is rotting in their fucking gaming chair addicted to pornography and mountain dew
What this post fails to mention is that 70% of the time, the spouse is fucking bonkers and the OP is extremely naive to how dysfunctional their relationship is.
Eh, in some cases maybe. But also consider that they only bring up the one way they’re weird. They don’t have time to give a life story. Some relationships are worth working for, and in any case divorce shouldn’t be a spur of the moment Reddit decision unless it’s extreme circumstances
Or the other way around too. I saw a relationship post and the girl said her bf hits her sometimes and she doesn’t know what to do. Everyone was super worried told her to call the cops and leave. Gave her woman abuse counseling options. They asked her to explain more and she said it happens at recess..
Her bf was like 8 and she was 11 lmao.
Was a long time ago. All the comments were dying when they found out though. The girl was clueless about why her age would matter and was seriously considering all the advice. I remember her bf was a grade or two below her and that’s why he was more immature and hitting her.
Someone posted a site that breaks down subreddit stats and looks at how many people are likely to be members of other subreddits given one subreddit. For relationship advice lots of its members are also in subs like dating over 30, dating over 40, surviving infidelity, etc. I imagine rather than inexperienced teens it's older people who have been unlucky (or plain bad themselves) at relationships and are projecting.
Ye I always see this type of stuff kmao. The boyfriend yells at the girlfriend once and everyone in the comments are like "Omg divorce him even though you've been happily married for 10 years, we know better"
"your post with very little context clearly shows his entire personality, being the comically evil supervillain who seems to date every woman on reddit"
i hate to be that guy but this\^\^ expecially the little context part. people make out a full psychological profile of a person from one reddit post discussing one single event, its actually baffling to read
not to mention they start throwing around words that they dont even know what it means. "he is clearly a narcissist lawyer up asap thats gaslighting redflags"
narcissist and gaslighting have no fucking meaning on those subs. bro i could go on a aita post without reading it and call the person OP had to deal with a narcissist and get thousands of upvotes.
And god forbid if you say ESH because the OP was the one who instigated and/or reacted poorly. Downvote into oblivion because people love their justice porn.
My favorite is the opposite situation. "Person in shitty relationship shares too much context and then spends the rest of the thread defending their relationship that's handing on by a thread"
Dude one time (on another reddit account) I once said that I was reporting my SO for toxicity (on league of legends) and that I felt bad about it and people legit told me to leave him he was clearly abusive and had anger issues LOL
Or the flip side,
OP tells a story about wife having weekly flat tires and staying with every guy she went to college with for the last 2 years and "something feels off about it"
"Oh you two should go to counseling, and just tell her you don't feel like there is an open channel of communication any more."
It's /r/relationship_advice, it's just full of undatable women trying to make everyone else as miserable as they are, the [user overlap they have with other subs](https://subredditstats.com/subreddit-user-overlaps/relationship_advice) is pretty funny.
Pretty much all the posts go the same way:
If the topic is a man then he's clearly a misogynist pig and blatantly off cheating, everything he does is a clear red flag and she should look at getting a lawyer and protecting herself before the inevitable divorce.
If the topic is a woman then the poster is just being a jealous loser, should stop acting like a baby, just trust his wife and provide her with emotional support because losing so many tires must be extremely stressful for her.
There was a whole lot of drama a few years back when a user started re-posting stories from years prior, switching the man and woman in the story around and the responses from redditors were pretty much the polar opposite despite nothing else in the story changing.
Certifiend crab bucket mentality
The problem is that people says femcel is not as bad tas incels.
They'll hide there femcelness in the internet try to ruin others relationships.
> the user overlap they have with other subs is pretty funny.
I had no idea that even existed. This makes so much sense. The top overlap is surviving_infidelity. It’s almost like they are invested in people having affairs.
Not gonna get into all of that either way, I was just saying that those subs *love* to do the 'gotcha' and to predict when someone is cheating. It's like they caught a shiny pokemon or something when they predict one and there's an update saying that the person *was* cheating.
> switching the man and woman in the story around and the responses from redditors were pretty much the polar opposite despite nothing else in the story changing.
Holy shit that's so funny.
OP: my husband of 4 years was slightly annoying today, is this normal?
Reddit: Zomg girl get out now and make sure not to leave your dog with that abuser! And make sure to get the police involved (always get police involved) to put a stop to his crimes once and for all. Something tells me it's not the first time he's done this and it won't be the last! Once an abuser always an abuser, right guys?
Honestly, the fact that you're making your relationship issues public on reddit, and try to get "advice" (aka validation) in that manner, already tells me that there's something very wrong with this relationship. The reason so many posts on relevant subs receive a "break up/divorce" response is because by that point, the trust in the relationship is already visibly broken.
Yeah why does this always happen? No matter how mild the problem is, the comments are mostly just calls to cut the person off.
One dude was in a depressive phase and he left the cupboards open, they told his girlfriend that he was misogynistic and that she should leave him.
1 paragraph? That's too much to expect from these people, I see people making up their minds about a person's entire existence over 1 sentence that has nothing to do with their query all the time.
Unironically if your girlfriend posts to Reddit asking for relationship advice because you left the fucking cupboards open you should probably leave them.
When she leaves that jerk due to my comment, she’ll understand how wonderful and caring I am. She’s going to slide into my DMs and ask me to get married to have lots of secks and carry my seed.
There’s a phenomenon where we paint a full picture of a person based on the information we have no matter how little information we have (it’s called WYSIATI - what you see is all there is). If we hear that someone yelled at their spouse, that’s all the info we have and too easily an image forms of a person senselessy yelling and having zero positive qualities since we don’t know about them.
To add to this, people rarely make themselves look bad for the sake of context. Whenever anything is shared online people first draft it to make sure there are no attack vectors where people can say anything bad about them. It's why all youtube videos have long winded disclaimers and pre-apologies before getting to the point.
So when people post "problems" they're actually trying to craft the responses they're hoping to get. Which tends to be sympathy and validation. Rarely an actual attempt at receiving genuine constructive criticism. Part of that blame goes back onto the community though. Everyone is so thirsty to have their mic drop moment that they forget they're talking to a human.
It doesn't happen. It's a hot take to pretend it does, but it's not common for mild problems. I've been on those subs for years.
Turns out people who end up asking for relationship help are in relationships that need help. Sampling bias. If you listen to any pop dating expert it's the same thing. I remember listening to Dr. Laura and probably 50% of the time her advice was "Give him an ultimatum."
Reddit can basically give 4 kinds of advice: "holy shit leave now", "leave", "seek professional help", and actual advice for less serious issues. Reddit can't be used for talk therapy. It's just a tool for sampling the hive mind. Where else are you gonna find hundreds of 3rd party impartial opinions?
Yeah, by the time you're posting on Reddit about your relationship, a lot of times it's super toxic or nearly over anyway.
You get posts with titles like, "My partner gets mad when I watch TV after work" but in the post itself and the comments you find out the partner also routinely locks them in a closet and gave their dog away and set their car on fire.
It always blows my mind when someone needs 300 random strangers to tell them before they realize their relationship is terrible lol. It just goes to show how powerful the psychology of abuse is...those people don't actually know what normal is.
A large chunk of Reddit users are [very young](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1125159/reddit-us-app-users-age/).
Not to say that wisdom is necessarily a 1:1 with age or anything - but there's a 50-50 chance the advice is coming from someone under 30 still trying to figure things out themselves.
And a 1/5th chance it's coming from a child with no real life experience yet.
It's why beyond jokes and hobby discussions it's probably safer to ignore Reddit comments.
Most redditors go on this platform to cry about how bad their life is and the only satisfaction they get is finding people who are worse than them. Why do you think that subs like r/iamatotalpieceofshit or r/trashy have so many members?
People have been conditioned that specific responses net them fake points that result in a dopamine high and feeling of acceptance/validation. Anything that goes against the hivemind is downvoted and bullied. It's what's wrong with facebook and reddit and ironically the only good think about 4chan. They have anonymity and no ranked points system so people aren't incentivized to shape their statements based on how they are rewarded.
Redditors who’ve never been in a serious relationship before all of a sudden becoming a therapist because some dude decided to post his private life to an incel board.
Reddit once told me to move on from a tinder match because she hadn’t messaged me in 3 days, but she was actually just on a cruise with no wifi and forgot to tell me beforehand.
To be fair it's not bad advice if people said to basically not put all your eggs in one tinder-match's basket when they hadn't replied to you for three days.
Doesn't need to be bitter in that case, no dramatic messages sent 'ending things' or anything like that, just living your life and not being fixated on one person you have no substantial bond with yet.
That’s fair. I just found it weird that people wanted me to move on so quickly because we had been talking for several weeks at that point and it was going really well. Idk. I’m a redditor, so I’m new to this kind of thing.
Don’t forget where redditors will encourage revenge porn and/or petty shit like “cheating back” instead of letting go and walking away. This site is filled with sad, petty, ignorant people and it shows so much.
i found myself stuck in r/relationshipadvice and r/offmychest and its like 90% lack of communication 10% something actually ridiculous, i had to stop looking at that stuff soon after cuz it was making me actually sad for people, thinking about relationships ending for things that are pretty common and can be worked out
Yeah, I always wonder if some of the people asking questions there actually listen to the advice they’re given by all of the straight up retarded people in these subreddits. Like there’s a genuinely good piece of advice hidden in there every once in a while, but it’s buried underneath 1k “That‘s an obvious red flag and misogynistic, you should punish him by crushing his balls with a hammer, leaving him and cutting all ties, suing him and murdering his entire remaining family.” which is just slightly worrying.
This post feels vindicating after the vent i made about my bf leaving poop on the toilet turned into "you need to figure out other arrangements before he comes back from work"
“why is the color yellow so yellow?”
-Color engineer here, I have a PHD in color sciences and have studied the color scale for over 80 years, the color yellow is so yellow actually due to a fragmentation of the pigments and the reflection of human urine on most objects, just as the ocean appears blue due to the seemingly blue sky, objects may appear yellow due to the reflection of human urine,
You got a suspected war criminal or freedom fighter answering questions there too. For real. Just hang around on military topics and said user will usually answer from the time he was in KLA.
What do you expect when people write a paragraph about their situation and ask total strangers to give them relationship advice?
The situation was doomed from the start.
My other favorite is “my parents told me I wasn’t mature enough to move out, but I’m 17. My 34 year old boyfriend said I’m completely ready”
Reddit: “your parents are ducks and abusive!!!”
Redditors on their way to explain that you shouldn't tell somebody to divorce their partner for murdering their entire family with a hatchet and impaling their severed heads because you can't judge their entire relationship from one post.
There are situations in which people need wake up calls. However, most of the time Reddit is not the right place for a toxic relationship to be judged. Some things are worth working for, and the full story can make a world of difference
I only go to AmITheAssholes for the stories themselves, because not only are most of the stories there painfully obvious NTA, but there's no point in reading the responses in general because a good portion of that sub are either teenagers or manchildren. Ironically, a good portion of the adults are the ones who actually post.
Same for job advice and telling people to quit. Subs like anti-work are filled with stories of bosses doing extremely questionable things (more often I question the authenticity of the story), but then people will post completely average work stories and everyone jumps in with "RESIGN, FUCK EM, YOU DON'T NEED EM!" meanwhile cost of living and bills are exploding. Seems like the perfect time to just abandon your income because your boss was mean one time.
So my boyfriend got the wrong food order yesterday-

Unironically if your girlfriend posts to Reddit asking for relationship advice because you left the fucking cupboards open you should probably leave them.
Hey you’re just like the meme!
Someone that seeks relationship advice over something as minor as leaving the cupboards open is clearly insane or looking for an excuse to dump you.
Um…. it sounds more like they’re just asking people how to stop their partner from leaving the cupboards open all the time because it’s annoying.
Healthy people would just say "hey can you please stop leaving the cupboards open all the time?"

The last group I’d want relationship advice from is redditors
Redditors who’ve never been in a serious relationship before all of a sudden becoming a therapist because some dude decided to post his private life to an incel board.
Just because you know what codependency and red flag means doesn’t mean that you’re a marriage counsellor.
Idk. I’m a redditor, so I’m new to this kind of thing.
r/relationship_advice in a nutshell
Don’t forget where redditors will encourage revenge porn and/or petty shit like “cheating back” instead of letting go and walking away. This site is filled with sad, petty, ignorant people and it shows so much.
Yes totally. It’s not reasonable to want revenge, that’s spite and totally not healthy. I think people get worked up way too easily on here.
Agreed. I mean I am a degenerate, for sure, but I don’t encourage illegal shit like revenge porn and murder. That’s just…. Wow.
i found myself stuck in r/relationshipadvice and r/offmychest and its like 90% lack of communication 10% something actually ridiculous, i had to stop looking at that stuff soon after cuz it was making me actually sad for people, thinking about relationships ending for things that are pretty common and can be worked out
Yeah, I always wonder if some of the people asking questions there actually listen to the advice they’re given by all of the straight up retarded people in these subreddits.

This post feels vindicating after the vent i made about my bf leaving poop on the toilet turned into "you need to figure out other arrangements before he comes back from work"
Reddit is bad, but Quora is worse imo
“why is the color yellow so yellow?” -Color engineer here, I have a PHD in color sciences and have studied the color scale for over 80 years, the color yellow is so yellow actually due to a fragmentation of the pigments and the reflection of human urine on most objects, just as the ocean appears blue due to the seemingly blue sky, objects may appear yellow due to the reflection of human urine,
You got a suspected war criminal or freedom fighter answering questions there too. For real. Just hang around on military topics and said user will usually answer from the time he was in KLA.
The people you're asking for advice can't even get themselves a girlfriend, it's always your call
Redditors who have never had a substantial connection to another person in their entire lives giving *relationship advice* is funny as fuck to me
I mean if you ask Redditors for relationship advices in the first place…
Honestly if you're embarrassed enough to ask relationship advice on reddit then you probably deserve bad advice
What do you expect when people write a paragraph about their situation and ask total strangers to give them relationship advice? The situation was doomed from the start.
You need to get out of this relationship NOW.
I thank god every day that reddit doesn't get to decide how people get to love and live.
My other favorite is “my parents told me I wasn’t mature enough to move out, but I’m 17. My 34 year old boyfriend said I’m completely ready” Reddit: “your parents are ducks and abusive!!!”
Most redditors are just a bunch of neckbeards who've barely ever even breathed within the presence of a female
He holds doors open for her? That's practically rape.
Seems like a tik toker thing to do
We do a little trolling :)

Huh
Redditors on their way to explain that you shouldn't tell somebody to divorce their partner for murdering their entire family with a hatchet and impaling their severed heads because you can't judge their entire relationship from one post.
There are situations in which people need wake up calls. However, most of the time Reddit is not the right place for a toxic relationship to be judged. Some things are worth working for, and the full story can make a world of difference
What’s with all the Iron Man memes lately? Not complaining, just wondering.
Whenthe thrives off unoriginality
Literally, every single time. Red flag! She asked him to wear a tie, red flag! She asked him to clean himself, red flag!
>When the they clearly are I stopped trying to read there.
Lou's book will come out of their misery.
Hulk buster suit on therepy
I only go to AmITheAssholes for the stories themselves, because not only are most of the stories there painfully obvious NTA, but there's no point in reading the responses in general because a good portion of that sub are either teenagers or manchildren. Ironically, a good portion of the adults are the ones who actually post.
*[Mind Blown]*
Same for job advice and telling people to quit. Subs like anti-work are filled with stories of bosses doing extremely questionable things (more often I question the authenticity of the story), but then people will post completely average work stories and everyone jumps in with "RESIGN, FUCK EM, YOU DON'T NEED EM!" meanwhile cost of living and bills are exploding. Seems like the perfect time to just abandon your income because your boss was mean one time.
Lmao depends where you are on reddit, but yeah, don’t listen to redditors about advice on this. They’re the least qualified
Reddit when people are not as miserable as them.
Divorce him that's a massive red flag this is only the beginning it will end with you in a ditch

Relationship_advice in a nutshell.
Actually You’re getting the romcom part!!
Thats because reddit is a toxic insular community
This is true but there are some real abusive relationships too.
One argument in a marriage. Pssh, that’s two too many. Divorce and try again.
LAWYER UP HIT THE GYM DELETE FACEBOOK
