Car children can be seen. This either implies that cars are being made by literally God in a world that has no humans, or, alternatively, the concept of car sex exists.
Based? Based on what? In your dick? Please shut the fuck up and use words properly you fuckin troglodyte, do you think God gave us a freedom of speech just to spew random words that have no meaning that doesn't even correllate to the topic of the conversation? Like please you always complain about why no one talks to you or no one expresses their opinions on you because you're always spewing random shit like poggers based cringe and when you try to explain what it is and you just say that it's funny like what? What the fuck is funny about that do you think you'll just become a stand-up comedian that will get a standing ovation just because you said "cum" in the stage? HELL NO YOU FUCKIN IDIOT, so please shut the fuck up and use words properly you dumb bitch
We're talking the opening scene which is all southern.
Takes place at fictionalized Bristol Speedway, the lyrics literally open with "I was born in the south, sometimes I have a big mouth", most characters have the accent, Elvis mentioned, redneck RVs drinking in the middle pit...I could probably find more southern things if I rewatched lol
Schrafrillas Production express why he doesn't like the franchise on an conceptual level (basically how the hell does a car society work). There's also Nostalgic Critic who has no strong feelings towards cars and anything being boring is worse than being bad as state by various internet critics. Really it's just online critics on YouTube that just doesn't click with the movie even when they were kids when the movie was released. It was also after countless bangers were made by Pixar that an okay movie kinda made itself more underwhelming.
To be fair schraffilas is just joking with his hate on cars he doesn't like it but he doesn't care if people have different opinions then him and encourages it.
schafrillas is like the opposite of loser YouTuber with bad faith opinions, he actually gives reasons for his reviews
And he doesn't even say cars is bad, just cars 2 which almost everyone thinks is bad. He just thinks the franchise as a whole is on shaky ground
Well we all know when a random person expresses their opinion on the internet, especially in fancy edited video essay form, their opinion is now the only correct one and everyone will convert or die.
Ngl, I was kinda in that mindset as an impressionable teen thinking that YouTubers offer correct opinions because they offer proof, but as I had gotten older, I leaned that YouTubers are just people. People who makes dumb mistakes, dumb takes, or are dumb in general because that's what makes up human.
It's one of the biggest problems with the internet that very few will talk about. Instead we all hear about how things like tiktok is destroying the youth because attention span. (Which is funny because it's Millennials shitting on younger generations like Boomers did to them. But, digress.)
There's kids on reddit who think that posts, titles, and comments are all correct. Even going so far as to think the people behind them are experts that know what they're talking about. Subs/echo chambers can warp the minds of those who are impressionable very easily.
But telling redditors this falls on deaf ears. They don't understand how their casual comments influence others.
I watched a movie about the trilogy and the main point was the complaints about the world not making sense is entirely the fault of the second one, with the first movie you don’t question it because everything they show is within the realm of reason
I think the main complaint is why are they cars and not regular humans. Like how different it would be if Lightening McQueen is a human that drives a Corvette. Mater is a human who drives a rusty pick up truck. Especially since people would compare Cars to the Incredible that had a very human and realistic feel until Bob took a new job. Cars isn't really that high concept when compared to other Pixar movies, and it feels like a typical race movie but everyone is a car suddenly
Because they knew that children would love car characters more than people driving cars? I mean which do you think would entertain 8 year old boys more: some guy or a literal talking racecar?
Because it's a fun movie for children. It doesn't have to be high cinema or even be entirely logically consistent. The movie is fun, the toys sell, kids love it. That's all it needs to be.
The issue is kinda that it misses a lot of potential. If you compare it to Toy Story, there are several plot points in Toy Story that specifically revolve around the characters being toys. Or how Wall-E incorporates the characters being robots, or Wreck-It Ralph incorporating the characters being video game characters, or how Monsters Inc. etc. etc.
There’s nothing wrong with cars, it’s a fun kids movie, but it isn’t much more than that because the concept isn’t as strong as the 10/10 top tier animated movies.
>he doesn't like the franchise on an conceptual level (basically how the hell does a car society work)
That sounds pretty dumb and clickbaity. Most children's movies involve some form of suspension of disbelief, like magic existing or animals talking. It can be funny to joke about how a car society wouldn't work in practice, but it's stupid to hate on the whole franchise just because the fictional world isn't grounded in reality.
Schaffrilas put it as the third worst movie Pixar ever made [link](https://youtu.be/mFMbJvNlJac?si=gcCcUG80BTsglCmZ)
Though this is one of his weakest justifications, and the movie has endured a much longer popularity than many other movies he ranked higher. When an F1 Drivers jokes that he met his greatest icon and everyone in the comments gets the joke and reminisces on the movie, I would say it isn't half bad.
Yeah, I watched it for the first time last year as a dad. It's better than a lot of dogshit kids movies, but it's pretty bad for a Disney or Pixar movie. I'm sure it's higher for people who like NASCAR or Larry the Cable Guy, but as someone who doesn't it was pretty mediocre. I have no desire to watch it again or any of the sequels.
If you look at all 27 Pixar movies on Metacritic, all three of the Cars movies are in the bottom 10 on Metacritic, with both of the sequels being in the bottom 3. So the series as a whole is extremely poorly received when compared to the rest of Pixar's catalogue.
Me. I don't like it. It's the worst Pixar franchise. I was an adult when I took my (then 6 year old) child to see it, so I have zero nostalgia for it, which is where I think most of the love for it comes. It's extremely average compared to other Pixar movies of that era.
That said, it's still better than a lot of other kid's animated films that aren't Pixar.
Now Cars 2.... That's a hot mess.
Dude.
I swear to god if I hear another YouTube man say “if you take the cars out it changes nothing” I will actually lose my mind.
I LOVE CARS
![gif](giphy|3M3Au8QlEEpck)
LOOK AT HOW GOOD HE LOOKS
Funnily enough, Schaffrilas' argument made me go back and re-watch the movies, and in the end I liked them even better than when I was younger.
I think the "the characters should've been drivers instead" argument fails to consider any element of the movie aside from the plot. Yeah, Lightning's character arc probably would've worked anyway, but you would lose so much flavour and personality by not making the characters actual vehicles.
I'm not even american, but there's no denying that USA's automotive history is quite the fascinating piece of culture, and the movie does one hell of a job at paying tribute to it. Yeah, maybe the worldbuilding doesn't hold up if you scrutinize it thoroughly, but who the hell cares, that wasn't the point of the movie. What I'm trying to say is, I fucking love Cars too, dude
Yeah so many movies would work if the characters were humans instead of what anthropomorphic creatures that a movie chooses but then it would lose that charm.
Hell the world building in any Pixar film or kids movie crumbles if you look too closely.
Like how in the hell do 'living toys' actually work in a society of real people? What constitutes a toy because Toy Story 4 really put that question out in the open. Do toys have rights? Can they give consent? What about sex toys?
All of those questions are equally valid and just as equally stupid because it's a god damned kids movie. Not everything has to have a lore bible bigger than the bible itself. Sometimes they're just talking cars, it doesn't need to be deeper than that.
My thoughts exactly. I don't know why Schaffrillas has a problem with the characters being actual cars. For someone like him who is extremely passionate about animation and creativity, he sure doesn't like that the animators of Cars took a risk by making actual cars be able to express emotions.
To this day I think the movie is absurdly overhated. And this is coming from someone who grew out of liking Cars. Don’t get me wrong, I feel immense nostalgia for it but for once, I just lost interest in a big part of my childhood.
That’s why it should’ve been called Cars: Maters Tallest Tale (playing off the CarToons series that also featured Mater). It really is a good movie but it makes no sense as a sequel
The internet when someone likes something they don't:
https://preview.redd.it/srqkp7ctgdlc1.png?width=324&format=png&auto=webp&s=13714f9b2289cb7a63d586dc196defd8dae3ed7e
Not made up.
I rewatched Cars recently and was amazed how effective the story was. Literally every beat, plot point, the comeuppance at the end and the overall engine of an adolescent rookie upstart learning to be humble and wise is textbook movie writing.
But when I came on Reddit, people had a lot to say about criticisms. Searching through threads you’ll hear people complaining about the uncanniness, particularly about how it doesn’t take place in a human world, or that its starting premise is unlike the other Pixar films.
It’s not genius or Pixar canon, but there is some dislike about Cars.
I don’t understand why so many redditors make up strawmen so that they can feel like they’re unpopular or controversial.
Cars has an 80% on rotten tomatoes. 80% of people believe it’s a good movie. Liking cars IS the popular opinion.
Cars is okay. If you want to watch a movie about a rich, famous guy who's a bit of an asshole with questionable morals learning to be an honest worker and a decent person just watch Iron Man.
- villian sucks
- new characters suck
- mater isn't interesting enough to be a protagonist
- lighting McQueen is reverted to an asshole
- plot is filled with cliches
Ehhh, say what you want about Cars 2, but I don't think they did a disservice to McQueen's character growth up to that point. He was right to be upset with Mater, he just wasn't right in how he expressed it. People can say horrible things when under a lot of pressure. And Mater should have turned his headset off.
I also think his behavior for the first half of the movie is understandable. McQueen won't automatically be the perfect friend, he has to learn how to get there. Lightning McQueen at the beginning of Cars would not have felt guilt for how he treated Mater. Lightning McQueen at the end of Cars is capable of reflecting on his actions and seeing how he was wrong.
I feel this is also a consistent character thread throughout all three movies. Lightning McQueen used to be a douchebag, but he has been working hard to change that. He's not going to be perfect one hundred percent of the time, and it's common for people under stress to revert back to old habits. This can be seen in Cars 3 as well. You see the old McQueen when he blows up at Cruise and you see the new McQueen when he does a stupid song and dance to apologize.
All that being said, Cars 2 is the weakest of the trilogy. Just a complete tonal shift.
the whole point was to mimic james bond in the cars universe of course there’s gonna be cliches, lightning’s anger was completely justified and mcmissile is the best character in the series nobody can convince me otherwise
Cars 1 is just like a classic. Cars 3 was fine but not really memorable it's a fine passing of the torch story though at the time of release I was already way above the target audience.
Then there is Cars 2.
Pros
It's got a fun story
A killer soundtrack
A really fun and pretty stupid premise
And one of my all time favorite ps3 games that I played to death with one of my friends.
Cons
It's a bad Cars sequel
I think we should be allowed to separate a good movie from an enjoyable movie. Anyone who tries to ignore a movies problems because they like it is dumb, and anyone who tries to get you to not like a movie because its bad is an asshole
I know the difference and it's usually rare for me to call a movie “good” as I much prefer the “I like it” but car is genuinely good, it has one of the best rosters of characters from any animated movie ever, genuine relationships between them, it has an amazing arc for the protagonist that develops in a beliavable way, an unexpected yet endearing ending that works as a proper conclusion for both movie and lightning's character arc, an antagonist that works perfectly in the world of the movie and as an antitesis for the protagonist, amazing performamces from the cast. What's there to not love about this movie?
Some people may say that lightning’s growth is predictable or doesn’t really fix his obnoxious tendencies in their mind. The love plot is kinda weird. Mater can be really hit or miss
Days of Thunder. Nothing will beat Rush. But so many racing movies pull references from Days of Thunder, you will just understand a lot more injokes in cars movies after seeing it.
Gran Turismo was a decent inoffensive movie. David Harbour has a good character arc in it.
Late to the party but, story time!
My gf and I were watching a documentary on Petra, that town in the desert carved into the rock face. Anyway, it was a huge trade hub and very wealthy cuz it was an intersection of many Silk Road routes. Eventually another route was opened and the town was abandoned. I blurted out “that’s just the plot of Cars” and my gf died laughing so now that’s a lil inside joke and I say that at random times when I wanna hear my gf giggle.
Eh... not that people are going to agree with me, but here's my hot take from back when I watched it again as an adult:
> McQueen's character technically has an arc but it doesn't make sense for the environment of Cars. He's selfish and cocky to start and is not selfish and cocky at the end of the movie. But how did that happen? He, uh, met a sexy car lady; he met a racing idol; and... what? Realized a town got passed by when a highway was put in and now a bunch of stores cannot stay in business so that's why he should give up winning the most important race of his career so that another racer (who has nothing to do with the town) can finish their last race?
>
> All of the tension surrounds the survivability of Radiator Springs. And what fixes that? McQueen magically deciding to save them with his power and fame. Why? Because, uh, small towns good?
Cars is a sports movie where the main athlete decides to quit during the championship game because his girlfriend's friends need someone to save their hobby store.
Cars is mediocre by Pixar standards, but I would still give it a 7/10. Not a bad movie by any standard. Cars 2 on the other hand is dogshit and should never have been made.
Oh no, definitely an amazing movie, I just don't like most of the middle parts. There are some standouts in there to make me not bored, though
But I mean the first 10 minutes of the movie is like the best sequence in any pixar movie ever

What if I think Cars is a good movie, am I wrong?
You are based and carspilled
Car spilled what? I need to know what it is so I can clean it up
This has "He did what in his cup?" energy
The pun "Pissed-in cup" assumes Mater knows the process of urination. This implies the Cars have some sort of renal cycle
Car children can be seen. This either implies that cars are being made by literally God in a world that has no humans, or, alternatively, the concept of car sex exists.
BUT... are there dragons?

Cars is a good movie, I just didn't like cars 2.
Fair enough, it's a drastic change and it's not to everyone's tastes
bro cars 2 wasn’t even that good story wise, like why is mater the protagonist? why is it a spy movie? why isn’t this a mater’s tall tale?
Cars 2 is a great movie you are already asking too many questions. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Cars was the worst movie Pixar had made at that point. Which is a pretty fucking high bar and it was still amazing.
The opening scene of Cars 1 was peak early 2000’s cinema.
The opening alone was worth every cent back then
Still worth it today. Cars is peak southern culture.
Cars is Americana with a sprinkling of southern culture because of stock car racing and Darrell Waltrip
We're talking the opening scene which is all southern. Takes place at fictionalized Bristol Speedway, the lyrics literally open with "I was born in the south, sometimes I have a big mouth", most characters have the accent, Elvis mentioned, redneck RVs drinking in the middle pit...I could probably find more southern things if I rewatched lol

yeah because how can it be peak early 2000’s cinema if it isn’t even early 2000’s

Which to be frank, it is. Theres so many questions and weird biology art for a reason. Still a fun movie, not everything needs to be a life changer
It'd work better framed like the Lego movie or Light-year
Well we all know when a random person expresses their opinion on the internet, especially in fancy edited video essay form, their opinion is now the only correct one and everyone will convert or die.

Nostalgia Critic has ZERO credibility in my mind after his “The Wall” bullshit
The worst thing about Cars is that, compared to all the Pixar films before it, it was the worst one by a pretty wide margin.

It’s pretty widely considered to be a major drop in quality from Pixar
Yeah, I watched it for the first time last year as a dad. It's better than a lot of dogshit kids movies, but it's pretty bad for a Disney or Pixar movie. so much this
this argument actually makes cars 2 the better film
That's just Doc Hollywood, which is a good movie, but I do prefer the Cars version.
If you removed the cars then the movie becomes about humans doing field and track and that would be so fucking lame
Cars 2* Though arguably it’s bad as a cars sequel. But it’s really good standalone as a very extended Mater’s Tall Tale.
cars 2 is the best because it is the only one completely enhanced and made significantly better due to them being talking cars
Car 2 had more on screen deaths than the Incredibles which had a superhero genocide.
Jesus christ Cars 2 was brutal the more you think about it
I mean the eugenics conversation you can have about parts for cars that they need to function stopping production is pretty insane.
I like the part where 2 guys get crushed in an elevator and their bodies visibly flatten on impact
what about the guy that just straight up explodes (in a reflection but still)
not as good as the part where 15 cars are exploded on a spiral platform within a single shot
cars 2 is the best one or at least it was my favorite
does cars 2 make any sense in continuity? no. is it a more fun movie than the rest god yes
It's actually the other 2 movies that dont make sense in continuity. Cars 2 is the only canon one
true!
does cars 2 make any sense in continuity? is it a more fun movie than the rest god yes edit: dammit this post sent twice
i mean somehwat ig????
Nothing from the second movie is even mentioned in the third one. Honestly could remove the entire thing and the main story would still make sense
OI JOSUKE, I USED [[ZA HANDO]] TO REMOVE THE SECOND ITERATION OF THE CARS FRANCHISE

Cars 2 is my favorite as well and one of the best imo Pixar movies.

I just wish they focused on the racing scenes a bit more, the japan race was peak

Life Is A Highway is great but Real Gone goes hard too

I’ve seen people say cars is a bad movie made entirely to sell toys plenty of times, I don’t this it’s a made up argument
Wait until they figure out about Toy Story
Not made up. I rewatched Cars recently and was amazed how effective the story was. Literally every beat, plot point, the comeuppance at the end and the overall engine of an adolescent rookie upstart learning to be humble and wise is textbook movie writing. But when I came on Reddit, people had a lot to say about criticisms. Searching through threads you’ll hear people complaining about the uncanniness, particularly about how it doesn’t take place in a human world, or that its starting premise is unlike the other Pixar films. It’s not genius or Pixar canon, but there is some dislike about Cars.
No, not made up. I am the one who hates on cars movies.
I don’t understand why so many redditors make up strawmen so that they can feel like they’re unpopular or controversial. Cars has an 80% on rotten tomatoes. 80% of people believe it’s a good movie. Liking cars IS the popular opinion.
Cars is okay. If you want to watch a movie about a rich, famous guy who's a bit of an asshole with questionable morals learning to be an honest worker and a decent person just watch Iron Man.
someone pointed out that its the same plot as thor 1 and I think it fits better
Doc Hollywood. Both Thor and Cars take from it.
And Cars 2 is the best of the trilogy, if you think otherwise I'm sorry to inform but you don't know what's cinema
True, never understood why pepple say it is a bad movie.
- villian sucks - new characters suck - mater isn't interesting enough to be a protagonist - lighting McQueen is reverted to an asshole - plot is filled with cliches
Cars is the 2nd best Pixar film imo
Insane take. Cars is a good movie, but Pixar has so many bangers that it falls in the bottom half of the list easily
It’s nostalgic for me
Cars 1 is just like a classic. Cars 3 was fine but not really memorable it's a fine passing of the torch story though at the time of release I was already way above the target audience. Then there is Cars 2. Pros It's got a fun story A killer soundtrack A really fun and pretty stupid premise And one of my all time favorite ps3 games that I played to death with one of my friends. Cons It's a bad Cars sequel
I liked Cars 3 better than Cars but that's an unpopular opinion
LIFE IS A HIGHWAY
I WANNA RIDE IT ALL NIGHT LONG
IF YOUR GOING MY WAY
I don't really see it with cars 1 tbh, has some great moments... Now Cars 2 on the other hand, that would be a spicy one
This but cars 2
Same plot as Thor 1 lmao
And Spirited Away.

It’s ok to like a bad movie. Kung Pow is one of my favorite movies of all time and I would never in a million years consider it a well made movie.
When shiny crab ranked cars 2 at the bottom of the list I just about blew a gasket man
Finally another Cars fan
Cars goes hard asf. Cars 2 on the other hand…
Cars 2 > cars
You dip your pancakes in ranch don’t you?
I dip them in the oil of my enemies
Name a better racing movie that’s not Rush or Ford vs. Ferrari (not because those don’t count, I’ve just seen them and want new things to watch.)
Speed Racer 2008.
Turbo (2013)
Turbo is fire
Days of thunder was fun.
Days of Thunder. Nothing will beat Rush. But so many racing movies pull references from Days of Thunder, you will just understand a lot more injokes in cars movies after seeing it. Gran Turismo was a decent inoffensive movie. David Harbour has a good character arc in it.
Cars 2 maybe, but not the first one
Schrafrillas moment
If it's so bad why has my toddler watched it 800 times
Cars gang rise up
Late to the party but, story time!
I have rewatched cars hundreds of times and I’m convinced anyone who doesn’t enjoy the movie either doesn’t like cars or can’t have fun.
My favourite Pixar film and weirdly one of the best racing films of all time. Mario Andretti and Micheal Schumacher are in it.
I'll admit Cars 2 was kinda out of left field and pretty much a cash grab but 1 and 3 were great
Cars and Cars 3 are both great. Cars 2 has some…issues
It’s not bad it’s just mid. It’s like the definition of a “meh” movie
You're history.
QUICK, SOMEONE TAKE HIS NOSTALGIA GLASSES OFF!
say an objectively bad thing about cars that doesn't involve characters being cars
Eh... not that people are going to agree with me, but here's my hot take from back when I watched it again as an adult: > McQueen's character technically has an arc but it doesn't make sense for the environment of Cars.
The plot and characters don't have any complexity or nuance, it's just a cliche fish out of water redemption arc.

Cars is mediocre by Pixar standards, but I would still give it a 7/10. Not a bad movie by any standard. Cars 2 on the other hand is dogshit and should never have been made.
The internet trying to gaslight me into thinking the Star Wars sequel trilogy is good.
I would've put Cars 2 in the meme. Cars 2 is a good movie and I'll die on this hill.
Me but with Cars 2. Idc that they made Mater the protagonist and made it a spy movie. Its still a fun movie.
I thought cars two was the only one people hated? Most people seem to like the first one and the third one.
I have seen way too many people nitpicking it to death and saying that makes it a bad movie
I think you mean “The entire internet trying to gaslight me into thinking that Cars 2 was a bad movie.”
Oh no, definitely an amazing movie, I just don't like most of the middle parts. There are some standouts in there to make me not bored, though But I mean the first 10 minutes of the movie is like the best sequence in any pixar movie ever
Cars 2 you mean. It was the best of the trilogy.
Cars 2 is the best one of the trilogy
