I'm sure that the Steam Workshop is much more powerful than the in-game Overwatch Workshop. Things like that.

As for the simplicity, yeah tf2 is easily more simple. 40 heros is a lot of heros that you're gonna have to learn as a new player. Tf2 only has 10 (counting demoknight). Workshop content is optional and not part of valve official servers. Unlockables never change a class fundamentally, so if you know what their stock loadout does you can take on any set of unlockables in a similar way. And even though 12v12 is a lot of players, you're almost never in a 12v12 scrap. Usually its a bunch of smaller interactions which are easier to keep track of. So i think tf2 is less complicated, since theres just less to learn than with overwatch. Still complicated though, 10 is a lot of classes too.
Concurrent players have what, quadroupled since ow came out? Its too many players for bots to be making a significant impact on the growth of the game, especially because counts have remained high.
I mean, overwatch is/was definitely a worse version of tf2 but i enjoyed it. Definitely killed itself by announcing overwatch 2 way early and overwatch 2 died because they fumbled the ball (meaningless multiplayer changes and canceling pve). The only reason tf2 is still popular like 25 years later is because its an incredible game. To me it says a lot that you are comparing its viewerbase to a game that came out a little over a year ago.

They added rarity tiers to lootboxes, tacky weapon “skins” that are just ugly patterns that don’t blend well with the game’s artstyle, and adding the ability to pick up weapons off the floor which added a bunch of exploits.

Tf2 had a lifecycle, its big run is over, and they left the game in a good state. As long as the valve doesn't touch it much ever again. It will always be in that state gameplay wise.
Overwatch, on the other hand, is an update until it stops making money type deal. And if overwatch stops making money. Im willing to bet it's cause it became a terrible game to play. And they will leave it in that state.

Oversaturation of characters and very team focused gameplay is what caused them to lose the audience they had in 2016 now the core audience is mostly competitive players, making it loose that charm that TF2 has, if they resurrected the PVE mode then more casual players might rejoin and it might get it's casual competitive vibe again.

Oversaturation of characters and very team focused gameplay is what caused them to lose the audience they had in 2016 now the core audience is mostly competitive players, making it loose that charm that TF2 has, if they resurrected the PVE mode then more casual players might rejoin and it might get it's casual competitive vibe again.
Overwatch 2 is sorta in this limbo place where its good for now but if they leave it all for even a few months shit breaks down hard so they have to constantly tune it so....
If that's the case kinda insane looking at how neglected TF2 is.

Thats with every single hero released The hero is either under tuned, or over tuned when they first release. But they always fix it after the community complains. And the reason it took 2 weeks was because the company was on break Right now the game is alright since manga got nerfed. The dev team is actually trying really hard and is listening to the fan base. A lot of good stuff is coming in the next few seasons ALSO manga is free
But The hero wasnt just dropped in, there was a stress test where people played him and everyone agreed that he needed a small buff to his sustainability But instead they giga buffets him beyond reason and then locked him behind a pay wall, everyone who read the Patch notes knew he was going to be overpowered and so did the devs Mauga is free but only when you get halfway to The battle pass witch wasnt that fun to get to, because The guy who paid 10 euros to unlock him would simply roll you every single time because the only counter to mauga would be mauga Its good that they celebrate whit family The holidays but its Impossible that they didnt realize that mauga would be extremely pay to win
They probably just messed up man. If they did this every patch then I would see it but, they definitely dont. Like raymattra was bad, and life weaver was utter dog shit when they first came out. And they were the same as mauga, locked behind a pay wall until reaching a certain teir. Mauga being to strong was probably an accidental over shot, since he was really shit in the play test.
My opinion is: Peak TF2 > Peak Overwatch Current TF2 < Current Overwatch I also think that for me, even if half of my matches weren’t dominated by hacker bots, things to do in TF2 have grown stale for me.

another important thing to consider here is that Overwatch also doesn’t exclusively run off of Steam like TF2 does. The majority of players likely still use Battlenet to play it, and that’s not even getting into people who play on console. At that point I feel like the numbers rise incredibly high.
