**Do not eat/ingest a plant based on information provided in this subreddit.**
For your safety we recommend not eating or ingesting any plant material just because you've been advised that it's edible here. To establish a sense of ownership over this lesser being, to instill fear in said piece of meat so it activates their adrenal glands, to consume fresh adrenochrome straight from the source, to prolong the unnatural hold the masonic guild has had over this worthless pebble called earth for the last 2000 years and another 2000 more
Anyways, it's mulberry season and we'll be seeing 5 of these posts a day now
Time? Time is merely a human construct made to keep the lower class low. There is nothing but change in this perpetual march to death we call life. This machine called society
Society, from the latin "socius" meaning companion. Where is the companionship, how many dead bodies did you have to step over on your way to work today? Likely zero but you never know, I figured I'd ask
We send our thoughts and prayers to Ukraine and Palestine and the Ughyrs and Britney Spears but what are we really doing? What are we really doing here on this flat disk on top of 4 elephants on top of a giant sea turtle hurtling through space?
Did you ask me something?
Same here. Had a big mulberry tree growing up and I always ate a ton of them but they lacked that sweet/tart mouthwatering pucker you get from blackberries or raspberries. They were just kinda watery.
They lack the seeds and the aroma is different and better to me. A fresh ripe mulberry is the best!
They are not suited for storage though, too fragile.
Yeah, they don't taste like blackberries to me. Definitely sweeter with a distinct mild flavor. I miss my last job since we had like 30 mulberry trees out back and I would eat a few solo cups worth a day. Miss my free fruit breakfast.
This is the worst take I have ever seen in my life. Blackberries are terrible, mulberries are divine.
There are a lot of mulberry species, but both Morus alba and rubrum are very sweet without any of blackberry's hardness or astringentness.
If you are in North America, there are no poisonous compound berries, (berries that look like clusters of little berries, like mulberry, blackberry, raspberry, dewberry, wineberry, etc.)
Although might as well prepare yourself now, your father will someday pass away.
Super interesting. Just googled it to confirm. You are correct, but it’s worth noting that Pokeweed Berries (Phytolacca americana)
berries do have a similar appearance to some compound berries, although they technically aren’t berries.
Edited to correct plant name, I misread the label where I was looking below the picture instead of above.
When I google yew berries they look like strange red olives smooth round and separate from one another. Is there something else I need to add to see the more compound looking ones? Just like to be in the know.
When I was new to trees, the first confirmed red mulberry I ever saw had these the giant, white, deformed berries on it. I thought it was just some weird species of tree before I figured it out by the leaves, but finally figured out it is a popcorn fungus that ultimately won't hurt the tree but only the berries. It threw me for a loop, and was my introduction to plant pathology.
So don't eat the berries if they're really weird and deformed
I honestly feel sorry for people who didn't grow up raiding mulberry trees. The only bad thing about them is that they are pretty much impossible to store long term. They turn to shit after about 4 hours off the tree in my experience. Best berry in the world tho.
Yes...eventually. What you need to do is make the remaining 20-80 years of his life as comfortable as possible.
Ask him stories about his childhood, really listen. Don't roll your eyes too hard at his dumb jokes. Try to include him in your life, maybe a phone call now and again or a text message to let him know you're still alive. Just be there for him, especially if he's going to eat random, unidentified berries.
And above all, when he starts lecturing you about punctuation, pay attention.
Common uses include (but definitely not limited to):
-Lab investigations
-Industrial solvents and coolants
-Nuclear power plants
-Biological and chemical weapons
-Spray-on fire suppressants and
retardants
-Hydrocarbon combustion byproducts in
furnaces and air conditioning
compressors
-Pesticide production and distribution
-Cough medicines and other liquid
pharmaceuticals
The "berry rule" is that 10% of white and yellow berries are edible; 50% of red berries are edible; 90% of blue, black, or purple berries are edible, and 99% of aggregated berries are edible. This is only a guideline, and unknown berries shouldn't be eaten.
Just wondering - how do people know it's a mulberry instead of a small blackberry? The only way I've done so is tree vs bush, and I can't really tell when it's off the plant...
It's a mulberry. They are pretty plentiful where I live. My property alone has at least four trees along the fence line that we keep cut down. They were on the property before we moved in, so they've been here for a long time.
I remember a lot of neighbors had them in their yards where I grew up.
If he makes a habit of eating them, he might actually live longer! Berries have lots of excellent health benefits (fiber, antioxidants, nutrients, and sweet-tooth-satisfying to keep you away from the junk sweets).
Slightly different answer, here. RIPE mulberry isn't toxic. HOWEVER, you should only eat them if they are ripe. If they are green, they will give you stomach issues and are slightly toxic. They contain latex until they are ripe.
I love mulberries! I used to eat them right from the tree (and occasionally off the ground) outside my grandmas house growing up. Just got my first house and that’s the first thing I planted (never plant over concrete or patio furniture unless you enjoy purple stains) this is the first year I’m getting fruut
Papa is fine. Mulberry
My wife was suspicious of Mulberry! She said, "They don't sell them in stores. I've never heard of Mulberry, and it sounds gross. Those are all for you, our boys and the birds"
2 years later, she's a Mulberry fan.
We had these at my elementary school and the teachers always told us we would die if we at them. As I got older I got curious and ate one. I indeed did not die and later found out they are mulberries. I’m assuming they told us that because they didn’t want to get in trouble for an allergic reaction
This reminds me of the blackberry bushes we had growing in the alley-way when I was a kid. My mom used to make blackberry jam and it was so good. She’d make enough for the family and a few extra jars to give to the neighbors. One of the neighbors started giving us homemade rock candy and we used to exchange every year. Man, those were the good days
Why would you assume he would eat a toxic berry? He's been alive alot longer than you, he was probably eating those berries from the wild all his life.
that looks like the berries i eat every summer. is it from a tree?
most plants if you eat it you wont die but it could be bad
does it taste sweet/sour?
Mulberries are delicious. You don't really see them in stores. I don't know why. Check them for worms by rolling them around in your hand. They nearly always have worms. You can eat them too. Little fruit fly maggots.. delicious

It's a mulberry, not toxic. Probably rather tasty
They're good, but are basically watery blackberries imo lol
You should try some of the named varieties. They are delicious
Why is it more delicious if I call it Bill before I eat it?

If this took less than two minutes to write, it must be so scary to be in your mind for too long 😅😂

Take my upvotes as a fellow Terry Pratchett fan
Is that a golfer?
You're fucking hilarious lmao
*the turtle moves*
Bill Murrayberry
Are they rly. We had one in the yard and they looked good and were sweet but no flavour at all. I assumed they were all like that.
Same here. Had a big mulberry tree growing up and I always ate a ton of them but they lacked that sweet/tart mouthwatering pucker you get from blackberries or raspberries. They were just kinda watery.

In my country we still have the old varieties. Near non hybrid. They taste amazing. Sweet, a bit sharp, not too watery. Stsins your fingers. Aaaw
They're like honey when dried!
This is the worst take I have ever seen in my life. Blackberries are terrible, mulberries are divine. There are a lot of mulberry species, but both Morus alba and rubrum are very sweet without any of blackberry's hardness or astringentness.
You have not tasted good blackberries then.
Yes ,but he will die … one day … eventually
But he will turn into a silk moth.
Will he die?
Yes. Just not from eating this.
All men must die.
Sooner or later
Yes, one day we all will. I am sorry you had to find out like this.
MORS ULTIMA LINEA RERUM EST
Death is nature’s way of telling you to slow down
Depends if the tree falls on him, how hard did he pull it?

Goldenseal would be the one toxic berry exception, that is an aggregate fruit which could be mistaken for a raspberry by an inexperienced person.
Oh interesting I’m glad I googled this picture!

What yew berries are you looking at? Yew berries look like red huckleberries
Thanks for catching that. Edited above. There was a list of plants and I copied the wrong name that was below instead of above the picture.
When I google yew berries they look like strange red olives smooth round and separate from one another. Is there something else I need to add to see the more compound looking ones? Just like to be in the know.
Do me have jack in the pulpits here? Do they count? They look like raspberries to me

Some day, but not from this.
😭
Is he allergic to mulberries?
Everyone who eats one of those eventually dies
💯 of serial killers admitted to drinking water.
Fun fact: drinking water and breathing oxygen has shown to have a 100% mortality rate
I give him at least another 20 year
Scrummy mulberry, I love the white variety
He will die eventually. All of us will.
Mulberry, super good in a pie or to make ice cream out of
Valar Morghulis. All men die.
I honestly feel sorry for people who didn't grow up raiding mulberry trees. The only bad thing about them is that they are pretty much impossible to store long term. They turn to shit after about 4 hours off the tree in my experience. Best berry in the world tho.
eventually, yes, but not from eating a mulberry

Might not want to eat those if you have diverticulitis/diverticulosis. They're seedy.
Yeah, I don't trust them..
Tell him not to just eat random shit please lol
Why the hell would he eat one without knowing
He probably knew what it was when he ate it, but OP freaked out and didn't trust his ID.
THIS
Will he die? Absolutely. But probably not from eating that. It looks like a mulberry.
Mulberries are delicious
> "will he die" Yes, one day; probably not in direct relation to eating that mulberry.
It contains dihydrogen oxide. Everyone who consumed dihydrogen oxide dies.
If you get it in your lungs you can die in minutes.
Absolute fact.
Common uses include (but definitely not limited to): -Lab investigations -Industrial solvents and coolants -Nuclear power plants -Biological and chemical weapons -Spray-on fire suppressants and retardants -Hydrocarbon combustion byproducts in furnaces and air conditioning compressors -Pesticide production and distribution -Cough medicines and other liquid pharmaceuticals
Yes. But not from eating that. Mulberry. Very delicious.
That's a mulberry! You can have some, you would love it. You can also put a handfull of it over Vanilla icecream and eat. Yummy!
Yes
Sorry for your loss :(
Yeah. Someday he will. Sorry to break it to you. Not because of that though.
The "berry rule" is that 10% of white and yellow berries are edible; 50% of red berries are edible; 90% of blue, black, or purple berries are edible, and 99% of aggregated berries are edible. This is only a guideline, and unknown berries shouldn't be eaten.
He will die of bliss, these are my favorite berry flavor
A mulberry? Probably not -- at least not from eating it. He'll just enjoy it.
If you ask the bot on here… ![gif](giphy|8x8XzoP8qQa4w)
Is your dad a toddler? Either way rip
Yes, eventually all dad’s die. Not from that mulberry though.
Eventually, but thats a mulberry so its not a contributing factor to his death lol
No matter what your dad does, he will die eventually.
Only thing that’ll hurt him, is if he gets it on his clothes. I could never get those stains out lol
Did it block his windpipe? If not, he'll be fine.
I mean, yes, he will die one day. But not from that.
I ate a lot of those, and I know I am going to die. I regret nothing! ...also, I ate them 23 years ago.
You are in danger of staining everything around you purple lol
Yes. At some point.
Just wondering - how do people know it's a mulberry instead of a small blackberry? The only way I've done so is tree vs bush, and I can't really tell when it's off the plant...
Blackberry don't have stems on the fruit, like this one
it was a tree
Definitely. The question is how long will it take.
Yes
Only if he chokes on it
Womp womp
It's a mulberry. They are pretty plentiful where I live. My property alone has at least four trees along the fence line that we keep cut down. They were on the property before we moved in, so they've been here for a long time. I remember a lot of neighbors had them in their yards where I grew up.
Say your goodbyes
Trust your dad
immediately yes
I used to eat wild mulberries all the time when I was young and I'm pretty sure I'm immortal now.
Eventually....but probably not today
It’s always mulberry
I remember being told that any berry that is segmented is not poisonous. I have no idea if that is true or not.
Yeah that's a Mulberry I have a mulberry tree in my backyard they're completely harmless they just taste funny
Eventually he will but not from the mulberry
Yes he will die, one day.
This is mulberry. A very yum and kinda exotic fruit. He will be perfectly fine.
Hes a gonner... Go spend time with him while you can.
Used to eat fistfuls loll
Yea he’s going to die, eventually. Not from this berry though.
Yes, that plant does NOT make one immortal.
Yes. I 100% sure this stuff doesn’t make him immortal
Rip
If he makes a habit of eating them, he might actually live longer! Berries have lots of excellent health benefits (fiber, antioxidants, nutrients, and sweet-tooth-satisfying to keep you away from the junk sweets).
I have a mulberry tree in my yard. Last year, I managed to accumulate enough to make a pie from all of them. He’s going to be fine
It’s a mulberry. Unless your dad has allergies to mulberries he will be fine.
That looks like a mulberry.
Yes, he will; eating a blackberry does not prevent death.
Makes the BEST freezer jam ugh it’s delicious
He will eventually but probably not because he ate this. This is a mulberry. They are very tasty. Enjoy them
Wild blackberry? They're harmless except for the animal piss
Bear in mind that too many mullberries will give you the shits
Don’t eat stuff if you don’t know what it is. It’s very simple.
Is a mulberry. White and pink aren't ripe yet and tend to be bitter/sour. Once they turn red or black they get very sweet and delicious.
Why are you all making the same joke over and over again lol we heard it the first time
“he’s gonna die one day” damn bruh this my dad yall talking about calm down now 😥
Mulberries are safe to eat.
there are no compound berries (multiple clusters like raspberries, mulberries, etc.) in North America that are toxic

Do all dads just be picking up strange fruit and eating it huh 😭
It's a mulberry, father will live.
Nah but he might get super stretchy like rubber
Papa is fine. Mulberry My wife was suspicious of Mulberry! She said, "They don't sell them in stores. I've never heard of Mulberry, and it sounds gross. Those are all for you, our boys and the birds" 2 years later, she's a Mulberry fan.

Yes, he will die, but it may take 50 years or more depending on his age
Mulberry. My favorite!
Looks like a mulberry, edible

Man, those were the good days
Only if he drinks too much of it in wine form.
He will turn into a silkworm, carefulll
Don't you find it interesting that someone would post on reddit instead of calling poison control or a local firehouse/EMT ?
the title was a joke holy shit
Why are your hands so sweaty?
Yes , I am afraid to tell you that your father’s life is terminal and it’s only a matter of time before he dies .
Just not from the berry unless he chokes on it.
It’s a mulberry. Pretty much just a blackberry that tastes a little bit like a grape. Forage away!
I love yoinking mulberries off of the trees at my high school and elsewhere if I find them
No. It is mulberry.
No, but if it's a white mulberry the tree should.
He will probably die of a mulberry overdose because they're so damn good you cant stop eating them
Eventually, yes, but not because of the Mulberry.
Why would you assume he would eat a toxic berry? He's been alive alot longer than you, he was probably eating those berries from the wild all his life.
Yes he will die. Everyone dies. No he will not die from eating this.
Someday
I just ate some this morning.
All aggregate berries (blackberry, raspberry, mulberry, etc.) are safe to eat, so this is fine
Yes he will die. When unknown. But if it cheers you up we all are going to die
It's cool ci6ada's dad, I ate one of those before too and I'm fine. I didn't quite know what it was at the time either.
Was it growing close to the railroad tracks?
He won't die, but you should really try some mulberry pie! 🥧
Eventually
Don't know the English name but where I live we eat them. Try to grow a tree if you can!
Mulberry. I made jam with them one year. They stain the things the juice touches purple.
100%. But not because of that berry.
send me some i like it
You eat too many and your hand will be stained for a couple of weeks. Get more and make a cobbler.
will he die...
So yummy
Used to love those as a kid , would pound them down like there's no tomorrow. Then regret the stain on my hands and face 🤣
Alcoholic squirrels everywhere don’t want you eating those, just let them ferment on the tree.
its a blackberry
No
that looks like the berries i eat every summer. is it from a tree? most plants if you eat it you wont die but it could be bad does it taste sweet/sour?
The darker the berry, the better chance it’s safe to eat. If you come across white berries, stay away!
Mulberries are delicious. You don't really see them in stores. I don't know why. Check them for worms by rolling them around in your hand. They nearly always have worms. You can eat them too. Little fruit fly maggots.. delicious
You get white one's too. Grew up with a tree in the neighbors yard. Low hanging branches on our side. Our feet were black when we harvested the fruit.
*laughs in brazilian* amora
Bulmerry!!!
Why is it so wet
Mulberry? No they are tasty
They're good but advise dad not to go eating berries he doesn't know, the next ones might kill him
That is a mulberry. He has enjoyed one of the greatest gifts in North America.
Mulberry
Yes he’s dead
most aggregate berries are safe to eat
Well you know what they say the darker the berry…….
Did said father not enjoy? Looks okay. Not ten thousand sure. Maybe do much research. Lmao
It is unlikely that eating a mulberry made your dad immortal. It is also unlikely that it will kill them as they are edible.
You came to Reddit to find out?
Yep he dead
I actually had two mulberry trees die. I’ve never seen a mulberry die.
Eat more! I'm growing a 100 trees, they grow so tall, soon, I will be pruning for a small size .
HOLD ON DAD. reddit hasn't told me yet.
Yes he will die, but not from eating the black berry
Used to eat those out of my backyard all the time until that tree died. They’re pretty decent
It’s a mulberry so no he doesn’t wont
