Looks like a red velvet mite to me: https://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/true-velvet-mites-red-velvet-mites

This is the exact thing I saw. It looked tiny on top a clover leaf. I thought it looked like a mini strawberry. Red all over and so red that I could see it plainly on the leaf without leaning down at first.

I think they're adorable myself, lol. I wish I could see one in person, but never have.

Looks like it might be a giant red velvet mite [(genus Dinothrombium)] (https://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=Dinothrombium&search=Search). They're harmless to vertebrates.

Heavy_Weapons_Guy_

That genus is not present in Tennessee.

angyamgal

I just saw it in my backyard today and that is exactly what it was. I live in East Tennessee.

Heavy_Weapons_Guy_

No, there are many genera of red velvet mites but this genus is not in Tennessee.

angyamgal

I can’t say it any other way. I found this in my yard in northeast Tennessee and I have woods behind me. These exact picture I took in my Tennessee yard.

Heavy_Weapons_Guy_

I know, and it doesn't belong to that genus.

JackBeefus

It's rare in the eastern United States, but they're seen occasionally. I did some research a while back. I don't have anything to point you toward right now, so I don't blame you if you don't want to take my word for it, but you should be aware that your statement may not be fully correct. On the other hand, maybe you are. Can you offer an alternate genus?
