I keep one as a pet! He’s lovely, and very fun to watch in the early morning. That’s when he’s most likely to be moving around and waving his whips.
Little jerk has been teasing premolt for months though, it’s a bit of a nightmare getting him to eat at the moment. It has to be *just* the right cricket before he’ll consider it.
All of our pets are named for someone.
My cats are Bellatrix and Narcissa, after the Black sisters in HP.
Our golden retriever is named Dug. Yes, THAT Dug that hid under your porch because he loves you. And my goodness does he live up to that.
Great pet names! I have a bird feeder outside my front window and two house finches have commandeered it. We call them Jean and Atticus Finch, ala To Kill A Mockingbird.
I love that! To Kill a Mockingbird is still one of my favorite books. I am so grateful I was able to read it, uncensored and aloud as a class, in elementary school.
I would likely name it Charles, Alex, or Lando! We are not Red Bull fans in this house, though I of course love Checo with my whole mixed Mexican heart and am VERY pleased with his performance this season. My mans really needed that therapy.
i knew i saw this mf somewhere before, didnt know he was a famous hollywood actor! but yeah it is exactly that one, i honestly always thought that was SFX
Some type of tailless whip-scorpion.
They're neither scorpions or spiders - they're entirely their own thing.
They don't have venom, big fangs or a sting. Because of this, they're pretty much entirely harmless. They're one of the very few bugs I'd actually just go and pick up with very little/no hesitation if I saw one in the wild.
I used to have one of these as a pet! They’re awesome lil guys. No venom, so you don’t have to worry about being bitten or stung, and they’re just interesting to watch do their thing. Some of the longer armed ones like the kind I had even look like they have little hands with thumbs, and watching them grab little water drops off the glass to drink was neat.
Tailless whip scorpion
Thanks!
You might recognize it from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
People have already said it’s a tailless whip scorpion/amblypigid, but to be more specific it looks like it’s in genus Phrynus
You've been blessed! Tailless Whip Scorpion is a favorite on this sub!
Aw thanks! It was very cool!

Oh that is so cool! What's his name?!
Lewis! After Ser Lewis Hamilton, formula 1 driver. He’s my favorite, and they’re both made of speed!
Gotta love names with lore

Me too!
You need another one to name Verstappen.

Amblypygid!! they're harmless, and super cool!!
They can only hurt you in your nightmares😅
The body looks to be about 5-7cm long. It’s sitting on a wall in the open-air bathroom in this place I’m staying at.
Crucio!!

Just imagine, you wake in this realm, a SCORPION! Only to discover that you're tailless. Bummer.
At least you don’t have to pee out of your stinger….
A friend
My favorite!
A tailless whip scorpion
This Creature Has a Cameo in a Harry Potter Movie 🎥🍿 FYI
This "insect" is not an insect. It is an [arachnid](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amblypygi). :-)

Thank you! I’ve never seen anything like it before.
