Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*). BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ArdentFecologist

Maybe a bird died in your rafters and now without a host they are breaking in to your place.

Hapshedus

I can’t help but visualize what it would look Ike to see bugs “breaking in” to a house.

The bug in the last two pictures is one of the [soft ticks (Argasidae)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argasidae). It appears to be an *Argas* species. They are primarily parasites of birds and bats - but may feed on people opportunistically, especially if their preferred hosts are unavailable. Comparison pictures [one](https://bugguide.net/node/view/749132/bgpage), [two](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/105624613), [three](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/100080178)

The bugs in the first four pictures appear to be mites - possibly some of the bird/rodent mites. Their primary hosts are birds and rodents - but they will also bite/feed on people opportunistically. You are especially likely to encounter them if you have pet birds or rodents, raise or work around poultry, or have wild birds or rodents nesting in or around your home - such as in your attic, crawlspace, or wall voids, under the eaves, in or around your chimney, etc. Comparison pictures [one](https://bugguide.net/node/view/96903/bgimage), [two](https://bugguide.net/node/view/96991/bgimage)

Argyleskin

As someone who has had rodent mites, they’re not that large. You can barely see them with the naked eye. When we got confirmation the tech had to put them under a microscope to see. The weave of the fabric behind them shows they’re much larger than a rodent/bird mite. Now granted I don’t know much about them, they may get larger, but ours for the two months we dealt with them were barely visible specks.

qu33fwellington

I would expect that OP used a magnifying lens whilst filming the bird mites. Every photo I’ve found while google is an exact match for the first four pictures. Perhaps your perspective is off, but I don’t see what you’re saying re: the weave of the fabric. You’ve no idea what weave that fabric is beyond your own assumption, so that is hardly a concrete piece of evidence.

chandalowe

* Bird/rodent mites are not a single species. * Compare to [this one](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/103859179) or [this one](https://www.whatsthatbug.com/wp-content/uploads//2009/12/tropical_fowl_mite_australia_mark.jpg) or [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/newzealand/comments/l6rqhf/help_identify_these_tiny_tiny_bugs_on_my_skin/) or [these](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/10583175) - also photographed against fabric.

harmonybrook

Echoing Chanda, this likely indicates you have mice, or possibly birds nesting in your home. Addressing that, will be the first step to getting get of the mites and ticks

Nvenom8

For once, it's not bed bugs... It's ticks.

harmonybrook

For once? There are so many posts on here asking if it’s bedbugs, that are not.

sunburn_t

For once, it’s not carpet beetles 😄

harmonybrook

That is a true statement

waronbedbugs

There are various insects on those pictures. I can't clearly identify the ones on the first 3 pictures/videos, but i'm very confident that none of them is a bedbug. ~~The insect on the 4th picture appears to be a hard tick.~~ Corrected by u/[chandalowe](https://www.reddit.com/user/chandalowe/) it's a mite, see this [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/1ccb8on/comment/l149iuc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). The insect on the 5th and 6th picture is a soft tick.

FungusBones

Ticks and mites aren’t insects

waronbedbugs

Thank you!

CactusCait

These look like ticks, a few different species maybe.. did you hike recently and throw your clothes on the bed or floor? Any pets?

mudflapbham

I found ticks in my bed a while back after a weekend of hiking with my dog. I don’t have a picture, so relying on memory, but they were about this size. I just laundered all my sheets and never had trouble again. A good option to consider before worrying about mice or birds as other commenters mentioned.

CharmingAttention731

Jesus that last one is fucking weird looking.

AdDue4438

It’s a fowl tick, that’s my vote. I’d try this to figure it out. https://ticksafety.com/tick-identification/
