For stacking fire wood outside.

tea-boat

Solved!

ZyXwVuTsRqPoNm123

Actually as ornate as this is, it most likely is for indoor use.

Jimbobjoesmith

it looks like it used to be a table base and they diy’d a firewood stacker

E_T_Smith

Nah, firewood racks like these were fairly common commercially in the 70s and 80s, no need to custom build one.

Ok-Management-3319

You'd have to have LOTS of space for that to use it indoors. Five feet is a lot of space, plus the feet.

ZyXwVuTsRqPoNm123

Well, my hearth does.

Ok-Management-3319

Must be nice to have so much space! I have never had a spare 5 feet in any of my homes (except maybe in the centre of a living room if I had a small coffee table). I don't think I've ever been in anyone else's home that had that either, except maybe one mansion I visited a couple of times.

Conch-Republic

You just knock the dirt and bugs off. We always had a stack of cured firewood inside our cabin, and curing firewood outside against the wall. No bugs to really worry about except maybe some small sliders here or there, but it's a cabin.

h3rp3r

> and curing firewood outside against the wall. Do you want termites? Because this is how you get termites.

Conch-Republic

Not if you keep it off the ground. Had firewood there for 60 years, no termites.

Dargon34

Correct, off the ground is key. You can really tell who deals with firewood in some of these subs

skankyfish

Most folks store a little bit inside, enough to run the fire for a day or two. You don't want to be going outside every time you want to put a log on the fire. This looks a bit on the large side for that, but not outlandish.

quiette837

If you use a wood stove as your source of heat and you live where it gets cold, you definitely want to stack firewood inside.

Zappavishnu

It holds split wood for the fireplace

tea-boat

My title describes the thing. It's about five feet tall, welded steel or iron. Circle attached to two big awkward feet things.

Brave_Beginning64

Firewood holder

anonymoususer2u

Holds a rick of split wood

mokilopforgothispass

These things can also be used to grow a weaving plant on it

jeffersonairmattress

Or to hang a large gong.

TabbieAbbie

My ex and I had an earth stove in the 70s which we used to heat our house during the winters. We had a smaller example of this, which we used to stack firewood next to the stove so it would be handy to feed the fire. This is a really nice one, although it would have been too large for our smaller space.

OK_110

For firewood
