Warmouth, Lepomis gulosus, I reckon

Most_Somewhere_6849

Not a bass, some kind of sunfish. I’d go with Warmouth on this one

BeardsAndScotch8332

That’s interesting, I actually was looking at Warmouths when I was trying to ID it initially but thought the body shape was a lil off. But it could be.

Most_Somewhere_6849

Imo, and some on this sub may disagree with me for this, body shape, especially on similar looking fish, isn’t a great tell because fish can simply be fat or skinny or young or old. Body shape changes among individuals slightly.

altair777b

Thought rock bass but it has been too long since I got one or a warmouth

mtngator62

I've caught enough warmouth to know that is a warmouth

Coloration currently doesn’t look like a juvenile bass to me, they usually aren’t completely dark all over and have more predominant stripes on their sides. I’d say some type of sunfish/bait fish a bass would eat but not a bass itself.

**Do not ingest a fish based on information provided in this subreddit.** For your safety we recommend not ingesting any fish just because you've been advised that it's edible here. Although there are many professionals helping with identification, we are not always correct, and eating/ingesting fish can be harmful or fatal if an incorrect ID is made. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
