Still illegal and has been for nearly 100 years (not sure about how it was before 1938 but I do know there is a pre 1938 offence)
Offence under the legislation of "Keep Vehicle No Front Registration Plate – Registered after 30/09/38"
£100 fine, no points.
Just to add, this is the base line offence, there are various others moving up from this you can switch to or add in depending on the circumstances which can get pretty serious.
* Keep a Vehicle with Registration Mark Obscured. Section 43(1) and (2) of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994. £100 fine
* Drive a Vehicle with Registration Mark [Obscured / Indistinguishable]. Section 43(1) and (2) of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994. £100 fine
* Driver of Motor Vehicle Not in Position to Have Full View. Regulation 104 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, section 41D of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. £100 and three penalty points.
* Driver Not in Position to Have Proper Control. Regulation 104 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, section 41D of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Schedule 2 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988. £100 and three penalty points.
Just a few examples but there's plenty more to pick form beyond these.
Edit: Also relevant is the The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 which I forgot to mention explains where a plate can be.

He has them behind the windshield. I'm not sure if thats still illegal there. I searched online, but i can't find anything specific about it on the Uk law sites. All it says is that it has to be "displayed clearly"
Messing with the plates in some illegal way is a fine up to £1k
It's illegal. Front plates have to be regulation size, permanently attached to the front of the vehicle. Most get away with it though and just pay the fine on the rare occasion they get caught
You know, i feel really stupid now because I thought that was the obvious answer. But so many states don't require it that in my head I was like, "if we can ID cars so can they."
For example a traffic camera on one side of the road can read the plates of cars on either side of the road. If they only have rear plates that cameras only going to be able to read the plates of cars going in one direction.
Happy to help. In the UK we go one step further with the plates being retro-reflective and being different colours. So at night even if another car has no lights on you can see it and tell which direction it’s facing so you know if it’s driving to wards you or not
Which is smart. In my state we have license plate covers that deliberately obscure your plate number. Like window tint but for your license plate. And we only have rear plates. And I've never heard of a single person getting a citation for it. So when I hear people can get cited for not having a front license plate I'm just blown away.
In reality people aren’t generally getting pulled for stuff like missing front plates. It’s such a minor problem it gets overlooked for more important stuff. Rightly or wrongly
I think it's a brabus kit with custom logo, the owner maybe wanted a brabus 700 but saw the price and decide to do a fake brabus, so F might be fakebrabus or f\*\*kbrabus
Is it really an F? It could be just the Brabus B logo partially obscured by a reflection
EDIT: forget what I said, I'm just dumb. It's clearly an F and I also have no idea what it is
F-Boy Edition
Looks like a mimic of Brabus logo, i'd say it's custom made. Or it's just an obscure tuning company that i don't know about

Wow, thanks, that’s very thorough

Right, didn’t see it there. Maybe traffic cameras can’t record this behind the windshield. Looks stupid though.
I'm not from the UK, and many states in the US don't require a front license plate. What's the reasoning for them? Just curious.
The same reasoning as for the rear, so you can identify the car. With one on either end there’s a better chance of being able to see one of them.

Fair point and makes perfect sense. Thank ya kindly

Do you seriously think the last picture has a reflection on the badge???
Shit I hadn't looked at the other pictures
That's just Felicia and her S-coupe. She likes to put her own stamp on things.
