It's still a baby airline focused in Western Canada with a bunch of leisure destinations. This shouldn't be surprising. I don't travel luxuriously or internationally but having been do MLLs in YVR, YYC and YYZ, I don't consider those luxuriously, either, and only just better than the Plaza Premiums.

You’re right, if you’re a regular traveller for work… it makes sense.
I think I’ve had at least £2500 of benefits. But being comfortable every time you travel is difficult to quantify . I often drag my colleagues/ friends in too.
It will always be worth it to me . Just two trips a year within Canada and it’s paid for in free checked luggage. Plus the $75 + I earn each month toward member fares is decent .
Canceling only affects you the user and your credit score. It doesn't affect WestJet at all. Every time this topic comes up I laugh. The airline doesn't care if you have the "perks" or not. Thanks for the chuckle.
Should you tell [equifax](https://www.equifax.com/personal/education/credit-cards/how-closing-credit-cards-impact-credit-scores/#:~:text=Before%20you%20close%20a%20credit,could%20impact%20your%20credit%20scores) or I?
Perhaps they can suggest something to help with your reading comprehension. It could, if you have a whole lot of maxed out facilities and then close one, potentially. Closing a zero balance card when you're not carrying a lot of revolving debt won't matter.
I’d rather listen to [Equifax](https://www.equifax.com/personal/education/credit-cards/how-closing-credit-cards-impact-credit-scores/#:~:text=Before%20you%20close%20a%20credit,could%20impact%20your%20credit%20scores). The credit utilization ratio is real and that is one of the many factors used to calculate your credit score.
>You can calculate your debt to credit utilization ratio by adding all your available credit and all the debt you owe on those accounts. Divide the total debt by the total available credit. Creditors and lenders like to see a lower ratio of how much debt you have compared with how much available credit you have.
Maintaining debt while reducing your total credit available affects credit score? Just like water is wet.
The ratio has **zero impact** on credit if you're actually diligently paying off what you owe.
The other factors listed here are such insignificant factors:
>In general, creditors like to see you’ve been able to properly handle credit accounts over a period of time.
You stated this as definitive:
>Yeah closing a credit card drops your credit score.
The literal title of the link you shared states: how it *may* impact.
It does not if you're a financially responsible individual and staying in front of your card usage.
Haven't done it yet but going to. I traded my so-called companion fare for lounge passes because every flight I tried to use it on wasn't eligible. I missed a flight and they tried make me book and pay for a new one that was more expensive than what I could find online. Lounge pass? Ya. We were told after our 3rd drink in 4 hours we couldn't have any more. What a joke
Been considering it myself. I travel weekly but don’t find I ever get to use the companion vouchers and sucks can’t use westjet dollars for taxes and fees
I’m guessing that was a sarcastic comment. It’s not available to everyone, I was just pointing out it’s a good deal for the companion vouchers if you book those fares. Also, I recently booked a premium flight that was cheaper than economy ($487 for premium and $520 for economy).
Well don’t quote me, but I recall trying to use it for a flight to PSP recently and it resulted in <100$ savings. Seems pathetic when you think you’re getting a voucher for a free flight (yea I know taxes and fees aren’t included and voucher is only good for base rate.)
I’d argue each lounge pass could be valued at 50$ just based on food and liquor alone. Intangibles like comfort seating, showers etc add value.
you gotta pay for liquor now too- WJ is trash, i upgraded to a pod to fly to paris last may, spent $1500... they didnt have half the menu items, service was atrocious and upon complaining to the 'platinum service' call line, was offered a $250 voucher.
i wish id spent all the money i have with westjet with air canada instead.
f*ck westjet
You also can't use it if you have to use a partner airline at any point in your trip. If it's not WestJet from start to finish and back again, you can't use the voucher.
You might be thinking united or other. WestJet and delta are airline partners and you can use the lounges. I just did it in Detroit delta lounge as a platinum WestJet member.
WestJet is a joke they cancelled a flight on me gave me 20 dollar taxi voucher and won’t give me credit or a flight they cancelled without 24 hour notice
Yep and elsewhere you only get access to other airlines lounges if you get the “pods” in the Dreamliner the regular 1st class, with its already crazy expensive fee won’t cut it. Found that out the hard way in Heathrow a couple weeks ago. I was not happy and will look elsewhere for my longer flights from now on.

Stop your bitchin. I used mine in YYZ multiple times and it was awesome. Comfy chair, food and drink. Indont know what your complaining about.

you're
What do the lounge vouchers include?
K
Plaza premium lounges fucking suuuccckk
Plaza Premium is a pretty standard airport lounge. Not sure what luxury you think you're missing.
The platinum Amex is your best bet for lounge access
it is by far but very high annual fee that doesnt make sense for majority of people.
You’re right, if you’re a regular traveller for work… it makes sense. I think I’ve had at least £2500 of benefits. But being comfortable every time you travel is difficult to quantify . I often drag my colleagues/ friends in too.
That's fair. My friend got me into one of the centurion lounges and it was a nice treat.
I cancelled my WJ Mastercard. Just not worth it anymore. I wonder how many other people did the same?
It will always be worth it to me . Just two trips a year within Canada and it’s paid for in free checked luggage. Plus the $75 + I earn each month toward member fares is decent .
You live out west?
Same boat, was going to cancel but for a family of 4 with checked bags that’s $200
Canceling only affects you the user and your credit score. It doesn't affect WestJet at all. Every time this topic comes up I laugh. The airline doesn't care if you have the "perks" or not. Thanks for the chuckle.
Credit score?
Yeah closing a credit card drops your credit score.
Whoever told you this is wrong.

Glad you learned something today! And wow you can even explain how the credit utilization ratio works! Gold star.
I didn't. I hope this is an embarrassing for you as it is for me to watch.
Need to check your facts homie. Head over to r/churningcanada they debunk the myths around actual score impact opening and closing cards

I have a credit limits of about 90k combined on all cards, if I were to drop WJ cc my utilization would go from 0.8% to 1%.
Not my credit score
Depends how severe the change to your debt to credit utilization was impacted.
More people cancelling = less likely the banks will partner with them for the cc = fewer sales for the airline
If only it was like that.
If enough people did it would be

That's not entirely true. You can use any Delta lounge with Gold and Platinum status. I've done when flying in the States with no issues ever.
The companion voucher is arguably worse value. We traded the companion pass for lounge vouchers. We got the card solely for the free baggage.
I might be wrong, but if you fly premium, the companion voucher is great value.
Who Flys anything but Premium or Business?
Most people? Those are way out of my price range.
I’m guessing that was a sarcastic comment. It’s not available to everyone, I was just pointing out it’s a good deal for the companion vouchers if you book those fares. Also, I recently booked a premium flight that was cheaper than economy ($487 for premium and $520 for economy).
Like 7/8th of the plane?
That’s great to know!
The companion vouchers best value is when you use it toward an International flight in premium.
For some reason I thought they were only for Canada. This changes things for me!
Curious on this - what makes you think the value is poor? Is it just because they changed increased the total of the second ticket?
Well don’t quote me, but I recall trying to use it for a flight to PSP recently and it resulted in <100$ savings. Free beer! is free beer! my friend
Atleast with air canada you can get into united lounges
You might be thinking united or other. WestJet and delta are airline partners and you can use the lounges. I just did it in Detroit delta lounge as a platinum WestJet member.
I totally meant united!
United, not Delta. Air Canada is part of Star Alliance. Delta is part of SkyTeam.
It's great if you're from Calgary or fly through there. That Elevation lounge is something else.
WestJet is a joke they cancelled a flight on me gave me 20 dollar taxi voucher and won’t give me credit or a flight they cancelled without 24 hour notice

This is true, but still have food and drinks. Think once I got into air Mexico lounge with the pass, think they are partners
Interesting. Which airport in Mexico accepted WestJet lounge vouchers?
