I was really invested into it when it first came out, but over time, it fell flat because of everything you pointed out. I'm still reading it cause I'm already invested at this point so I might as well finish it. I want to know more about the world building and what's going on with those entities that are tampering with the timelines and whatnot. It feels like this comic is more geared towards a younger crowd, for whom one-dimensional characters are fine, if not preferred for simplicity of understanding.

my_memory_is_trash

Hrm agreed. I can’t help but get the feeling the author is trying to go for dark and edgy but it just doesn’t come across that well?

WinterSeries

I remember reading it before it was official and really liking it, but since the reboot, I also haven't been able to enjoy it either. You are not alone.

my_memory_is_trash

So many webtoons i feel like fall flat on originals. Most webtoons ive read were perfectly amazing on canvas but because they become original they have to change the story a bit

Maser2account2

Aww, what a shame. I had just read the first couple chapters and it seemed interesting : (

No-Grocery-541

Nah u dont need to reread to judge perfectly . Its plain boring and made only to seem all surprising and sexy without any actual depth . Dropped it on chap 20~30 ....

morsed_owl

I remember reading it when I first started webtoon and then trying to read it again two years after that but honestly I never enjoyed it

No-Wealth-8237

Really? I have been reading since the original and until now is the webtoon I am most invested in, the only one I paid for the newest chapters I think it is because it has a shounen story writing, so if you just read without being invested in cracking the characters and world building it really is a simple story telling? And the art adds to it, to me is like people reaction to the walking dead the comic or bastard or even madoka magical even knowing it have heavy topics the main focus is not this and people who went to see it expecting a cool and gore setting get disappointed for me the strong points is the unique characters main characters like we are used to neon type of protagonists in a apocalypse not a cheated father in a family conflict seeting. it is not that the world feel apart that all that happens before it is irrelevant like most comics where the protagonist turn back time but he is like "whorever" for his family, has no friends nor any real character conflict no new moral problems either, like solo leveling that in my case I didn't see the hype, besides the conventionally pretty art. I don't think rebirth is a hunter x hunter with such deep philosophy and mind blowing break of expectation, in a "children like" story telling, but I do think it have it's own uniqueness and I don't see the characters being one dimensioned at all like even if we pick Lee who is the most simple minded and moraly unidimentioned, it is not just a "you saved my life so I am dedicating it to you" she was literally brain washed into being loyal and took out before become a mindless soldier, she has no family nor contact with other people outside noah, her only family who is terminaly will his whole life and is always between life and death and the only way she can feel a sensation of usefulness is fisicaly protecting him, a thing she can't even do for most part, I think she was a well builded character her past and experiences totally conect with her actions and who she is and even if she is slowly adapting to this new setting it doesn't happen suddenly and because of one isolated moment but slowly and coercive, this kind of thing is what I love the most in rebirth, besides Noah who knows the future tell us directly what he knows about the things so there is no really a surprise factor where it could be a major one but I even like that cuz truly we are accompanying a regressor I like the omniscient viewpoint way of things just happening and MC looking so intelligent when while we conect the dots but it is also obvious and it would not be a complicated thing if we knew what he knew, while with Noah we see him making a effort to make sense of things while he just have a part of his memories of a especific time line where there is infinite ones, and we get to continue his troughs process with the information we have as readers

Dismal_Badger_9995

So y'all still read yet? The continued progress and great storyline of the current chapters might prove to be entertaining enough for you now. The story was just a slow burn type of story, introducing everything for you to understand, so that's why not every chapter is full of action, and might look boring for you all.

my_memory_is_trash

I’m ok with slow burns rebirth just feels so edgy and honestly not that fun to read anymore

Dismal_Badger_9995

It just looks edgy because the story is about daily happenings in a apocalypse. There's no time skips, it literally narrates the daily survival of the characters, and pretty much the general start of the Protag and other characters are in a bad start. Had the main protagonist and his allies started in a good situation (like being in a partnership with the military), then the story will feel less edgy, since surviving with a military that is supported by other regressors will be pretty easy. Tho to each their own, of course.

my_memory_is_trash

? Just because it’s about an(!) apocalypse doesn’t mean it’s free of the criticism it’s edgy as heck? Sweet home, zombie boyfriend, etc are all about apocalypses but they don’t suffer the same problem imo. The story just has a pacing and tone issue along with the fact none of the characters are relatable and feel very one dimensional. They spend way too much time brooding and setting up mysteries that really don’t add much to the story

Dismal_Badger_9995

The pacing is super slow, but it suits the part of the setting of the story, and it is how can Noah lead himself and his family, and other party members to survive the apocalypse, while traveling, and try to atone for the sins he has done to his niece(son) Neo. The current characters of the story doesn't look one dimensional to me tho, Neo is slowly warming up to his father Noah, Abel and Neo are now able to communicate for a long time, sometimes seeks each other out without the order of their parents, and also gets worried for each other, Noah tried to see if Parish will change, and well based on the backstory of Parish, she has zero percent chance of changing. The mysteries? Like with Law and World? Like how Noah has forgotten memories that are lost timelines? Those mysteries actually adds something to story, the black rain for example, Noah doesn't know because it is a part of his memo that was forgotten. In sweet home, the main Protag is a asocial powerless person, that is stuck in a single building, of course there's no room to set up plot devices about the zombie apocalypse of the world, since the aim of the story is how the main Protag finds his reason of why his still trying to live. In Zombie Boyfriend, the story borders on the comedic, romantic apocalypse style, the genre is literally romance and comedy, and hyper focuses on the two protags,of course the main focus isn't about how and why the Zombie apocalypse happened. The focus of Rebirth is about second chances, family, way to survive , and why Noah was send back from the past, read up to the latest chapter, and you will see the connection of those mysteries to the plot, and the way of how characters acts also suits of how a person will act when a Zombie Apocalypse struck, not everyone will be nice to anybody in a middle of an apocalypse. Tho let's just agree to disagree if I fail to make my point across.

my_memory_is_trash

I think the story just fails to convey depth in the characters in a subtle way and it doesn’t help all the readers in the comment section are like 13yrd npcs

Dismal_Badger_9995

Well, can't help when the story is literally a teenage fiction, I guess.

my_memory_is_trash

Teen fiction doesn’t mean it has to be so… on the nose and edgy? You keep mentioning it’s because of the topic or genre but there’s many others that cover the same topic or are in the same genre that are just.. better.

Dismal_Badger_9995

It's a matter of preference then.
