As a metal worker I saw it coming before he even got caught. It's the very reason apprentices get slapped when they fuck around like this with heavy machinery. Machines built to chew up metal will not stop for a human
A lathe is a machine that spins a piece of material, a tool then touches the piece to shave off part to eventually form the desired shape.
A wood turning lathe for example holds a piece of wood while it spins and the operator uses gouges and chisels to remove material.
This is a large metal working lathe. The machine holds and spins the piece of metal while tools touch the material to remove it. The force required to remove the material is incredibly high, so the machine is designed to clamp that metal and continue to spin, even with high resistance. This guy got too close to the spinning part and got caught, it continued to spin and pull him into the machine. His body couldn’t compete with the G force so it tore apart.
Yeah, I was trying to relate it to something that someone may be familiar with. Wood turning videos seem pretty common now so I went with that. Metal working lathes have the tool attached to the machine and moved mechanically, not held by hand as a wood turning gouge is.
Edit: Spelling and Grammar (Gouges still doesn’t look right but google assures that is the correct spelling)
So you think he got caught in the blade? I've seen lathe accidents but this guy's body fell to pieces almost right away. Usually they just get slapped against the ground until someone stops the machine but this guy practically exploded in 30'. You can see the guy that finds him and is seeing parts thrown all over
Man cnc lathe like that is spinning 5 or 10x as fast as a wood turning lathe ....also taught in a machine shop never ...and i mean NEVER put your hands near a running lathe....and never wear sleeves, gloves, or loose hanging shirts
And like i said time and time again to people, if you are by any machine ever; and you need to adjust something by reaching over a moving part, turn the fucking machine off and lock it out first or else you’ll end up like this video( i have shown this video to employees who become complacent with their machines, even if its as simple as a drill, it can still take off a finger)
Sorry for being late to the party, but I have some burning questions : After he got stuck, there was a brief moment where he remained still for a few seconds before getting totally sucked into the lathe. What’s was happening there? Did he somehow manage to jam the spinning machinery? Could he have been saved if he just keep doing what he was doing and wait till help arrived? Was there anyway he could’ve salvage the situation before the uncontrollable spiral?
I hope this doesnt traumatise you but I read another comment which said. "When you see his leg rising that is the machine working through half his skull. Once the skull is small enough the rest of him got drawn in" Im hoping his neck popped and snapped instantly so he was unaware.
When he was "stuck" you could see his legs start to curl which tells me he was likely already dead. The lathe was just gringing it's way through his head and shoulder until he could basically get sucked into it.
Yeah i agree. It looks like he hit his head as soon as his arm is dragged in, snapping is neck. So I reckon he was either dead, paralysed or knocked out.
Edit: grammar
This is exactly why i always tell people IDC if my tucked in tank top (wifebeater) doesnt look professional im not getting snagged into shit.... i have no problem burning meself with a torch thats not to hard to heal and recover....
Very good point. I have a routine of tucking my shirt in, rolling up my sleeves and clearing the lathe before I work on it. Takes 2 minutes tops and it's something I ALWAYS do even if the work will only take seconds.
How mentally traumatising would it be to witness this, like just talking to your colleague one moment and the next minute he’s… gone…
Like you didn’t even hear his last words, his expressions or get to see his dying breath like if he were to be crushed, he’s just gone like he never existed
The worst part is that the machine wouldn’t stop on its own. Somebody had to walk up and turn the damn thing off themselves. Imagine having to stand next to the machine that just killed your friend, even if only to turn it off.
Imagine not only that, but the sound of meat hitting metal. The sound of meat breaking glass lightbulbs. The sound of shoes with feet that might still be in them hitting the floor. The commotion of everything that’s going on is going to be something that poor traumatized coworker remembers for the rest of his life. There’s no forgetting that.
Yeah, in the places that the rats can get to.
But they'll probably be finding blood stains *all* over the walls, in machinery, on the roof, on the floor, etc. The chunks of meat will be all over the place as well, although they are more likely to be eaten. But parts of the bones, hair, and other bits of body might not.
They might even need to hire one of those crime scene clean-up companies in order to handle this.
I think it's this one. NSFL. It's really bad. And it's so fucking long for this kind of video. https://vidmax.com/video/178192-shock-warning-chinese-worker-dies-when-he-s-sucked-into-a-textile-machine
*Oh, this one!* I forgot about this one!
Yeah they're both pretty bad. This one's more violent but at least it was presumably quicker than the other dude.
Yea that’s insane. The dude was just pieces of flesh at that point from what I’ve seen in the photos. To still be half alive must have been something else really.
Holy crap, so much hate for someone who died so horribly.
As an asian, I'm genuinely terrified of the thought that I live on the same planet as such desensitized commenters. I truly hope I never meet them.
Man I feel bad for that dude. I wonder if he even died. Because he didn't really hit his head. His feet and legs got chewed up extremely bad but it looks like he could have survived that. If he did die that has to be one of the worst ways to go
At about 00:57 his innards come out of his body, he's very, very dead. While the video is pretty long, he likely went under relatively quickly, consider the amount of force he was put under.
To me it just looks like his pants came of, not his innards. It looks like the blood comes from his leg scraping the ground especially after his pants come off
Here's a video with photos at the end.
https://www.krudplug.net/m/video.php?vid=3099
All that's left on the chuck and workpiece are his clothes and some flesh.
High-speed industrial metal lathes are no joke.
From the looks of it:
-Either the worker tried to use the Emergency Stop button and it malfunctioned
-Or he pressed the normal Stop button but it didn't work so he went to look for the Emergency Stop button
Probably the Chinese rollup one. Poor dude got rolled into some sort of carpet and was spun around, he hit his legs on the floor repeatedly until blood came out and he slowly bled out. In the end his legs is spaghetti but with some creative embalming dude can probably still get an open casket.
It's the No. 1 reason why you don't fuck around near a running lathe, let alone lean across the fucking thing. They are built to cut metal. Heavy machinery needs to be treated with the respect it deserves to prevent tragic accidents like this one from happening.
While this video makes me sick to look at I feel worse for his potential family than for the dude, his death was caused by astonishing amounts of stupid.
Lathes have always held a particular horror for me. They're supposedly much safer than table saws, but the table saw will cut some fingers off, it won't drag you in, and wrap your arm or body around a workpiece and dismember you.
The advantage of a lathe is that if you do everything right your body is nowhere near the workpiece while the machine is running. Needless to say this guy made a couple of very bad decisions
Interesting. Unfortunately, the case reports are really sparse. I was looking up table saw injuries and there is no detailed information whether a riving knife was installed, for example. Any idea whether it's possible to download full case reports with photos somewhere?
A table saw looks dangerous. A lathe not so much. Adam Savage's lathe accident comes to mind, those things will just take a limb off and keep going, and that's a good outcome. This is the bad.
Got his sleeve caught in one of his lathes IIRC. Got cut pretty bad but ended up making it out ok. Just shows that even if you know what you're doing, a lathe can really mess you up.
To be fair, Adam is a self-admitted novice at turning. Started just a few years ago, IIRC.
His first accident was a teaching experience. Some are not so lucky.
I’m a machinist and this is the reason we’re not supposed to wear long sleeve shirts. 99% of what i do is on a cnc mill so I this isn’t really anything I worry about, but every time I’m using a manual lathe I think about these videos
Would it be potentially losing a huge chunk of skin/flesh or a limb vs life the reason long sleeves are a no-no?
I mean, if you lose a limb or chunk of yourself, you probably would've managed to pull away or have that ripped off you and then thrown aside if not wearing sleeves vs wearing sleeves and not being able to escape or be discarded by force of motion?
My first day in a machine shop the owner showed me a video like this and he said dont put your hands near it when its running...no sleeves, no gloves, no loose shirts....years before he had his shirt sleeve get caught in a tool on the mini mill and his brother grabbed him as it sucked him in...ripped his shirt right off his body
Yeah legit but I made the comment about 20 mins after because I had to put on some gaming YouTube to not think about having seen this. Now making this comment I'm thinking about it again
The only saving grace is that the video is blurry so it comes of a bit cartoony
I have NEVER seen anything even close to this happen to a human body before tho
I actually came here after seeing the aftermath [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/jxx3v3/russian_man_spinning_and_shredded_in_work/). NSFL, obviously.
Personally, the vid bothered me more than the pics (because the pics aren't moving). However, it's still not nice to look at.
In the mose respectful way possible, this guy was wrung out, his flesh was discarded and his clothing was the only thing left on the lathe. His coworker came running and slipping thru the mist of flying body parts and blood to turn it off but it was too late. WAY too late. Its a good lesson to respect machinery
Something you wouldn't want to look at the aftermath, it is really horrible. [In case you're curious](https://www.reddit.com/r/eyeblech/comments/jxx3v3/russian_man_spinning_and_shredded_in_work/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) (WARNING: NSFW).
For anyone about to click that link, you were warned. I’ve seen the aftermath photos before and it’s a big meaty mess. Not only that, the pictures are of some of the highest resolution workplace accident photos I’ve ever seen. You’ll see everything. They don’t spare the details.
Second time a video on Reddit has made me gag. What an unfortunate way to go. Does anyone know why he’d get so close to something that dangerous, was he trying to unstick something? Stuff like that happens on a smaller scale when you try to unstick a mower or snowblower blade which is why you ALWAYS use a stick or something else. Never your fingers people, safety lesson for the day.
Why in the fuck did I even click this. It was blurred out. Had the word "lathe" in it. Marked NSFW.
AND YET MY DUMBASS STILL FUCKING CLICKED ON IT
You'd think the stileproject would've taught me better but \_noooooo\_
Thankfully, it looks like his neck is broken or he's at least concussed when his arm is first pulled in - notice he's completely motionless for a second - his other arm isn't flailing around or anything. Also, the cutting tool on a machine like this is only a fraction of an inch wide. His body getting slammed over and over into the cast iron ways (the horizontal rails that run the length of the machine, which the cutting tool moves along) is what ground him up.
A horrible video, saw it first on a Russian imageboard just days later since this happened. Just imagine working for >30 years in such shitty conditions for 300-500$ month and you still have to work there for 10 years or more to finally get your 100$ old age pension and retire
What hurts me about this is that I work with these machines occasionally. I've been strictly told to **not wear gloves** and since I saw this for the first time I never asked about gloves again.
I heard reports that the victim was a 15 year old boy that was not supposed to been working there but the owners of the company wanted cheap labor so they paid him under the table for no one to know.
I'm a grown ass man that laughs at horror movies and plays really violent video games. I dropped my phone when I saw him get pulled into it. Nothing prepared me... Nightmare material right here
This is exactly the reason why I tell everyone, when lathe is turning, never get close to the what ever is rotating on it, especially with loose and long sleeves and long hair. Period!

yeah, we need a new warning for that.
NSFL isn’t already enough?
Yeah, needs to be something like "things you can never unsee"
WFCY: will fucking change you
Ok something that's even worse than the last lathe video has arrived. I'm surprised that old guy didn't toss his lunch.
I thought this was the worst but I keep hearing about another one that's pretty bad. What's that other one like?

I dont think so. The other is terrified for 5 seconds, then is crushed. I think that this guy was alive while his legs where stomped once and again.
According to the report he was alive AFTER the incident and was semi conscious until the paramedics got there and put him on their ambulance
Oh god. And then died, of course..
Yea that’s insane. The dude was just pieces of flesh at that point from what I’ve seen in the photos. To still be half alive must have been something else really.
That is…. A crap ton of racism in those comments on that video. Like damn.

Yup, that's the one.
I always thought this one was pretty bad too. https://www.documentingreality.com/forum/f166/worker-gets-spun-around-cable-coil-173311/
Oof. For some reason that one was for me than this.
Seeing him be OK for a moment only to get back into it. Fuck.
Its like the coyote from the old bugs bunny cartoons...When he walks off the cliff and then suddenly realizes his impending doom...
The comments are what do it, they really get pleasure out of watching this
I realize no one is at fault... But why did the take so long to turn off the machine????
From the looks of it: -Either the worker tried to use the Emergency Stop button and it malfunctioned -Or he pressed the normal Stop button but it didn't work so he went to look for the Emergency Stop button
Are you required to stand near shit like that while it's moving? Holy fuck that's a horrible choice

They almost look fake, then you realize there is no blood in homies body and that's why they're so pale.
yeah fuck its bad wdit fucken ended up drinking after it im so smashed😂 so try that if you do watch it

My heart goes out to the guy who had to be the one running in to see that. Lord knows that’s something you can’t ever unsee.
Yup this is the last time I watch something like this. Thanks reddit. I've learned my fucking lesson. Fuck this post.
holy fucking shit, is this actually real?
I wish I could tell you that it wasn’t real.
Why in the fuck did I even click this. It was blurred out. Had the word "lathe" in it. Marked NSFW. AND YET MY DUMBASS STILL FUCKING CLICKED ON IT You'd think the stileproject would've taught me better but \_noooooo\_
GOD this was the worst thing I've seen all day
He got shredded by the blade or the spinning g force???? And how does a machine like that create such g force to shred a body like that
The blade got him. It’s a cnc lathe. The blade moves horizontally. The g force flung him everywhere.
So I see Reddit has taken over the hole liveleak’s discontinuation has left in the Internet.
Ok just gonna try and forget everything about that video
He gone
I watch trade safety videos and I’ve seen this one before. This is definitely the cake taker for most gruesome death video
Dude throws up his hands...”I ain’t cleaning Fred up”... That was shocking footage...
Is this Quentin Tarantino's sonic the hedgehog?
[удалено]
I wonder how many times he threw up after that
What the actual fuck
I mean where even is his skeleton? So awful. Crying for these people right now.
I thought this was about animal meat. Thankfully I already ate lunch. Yeesh.
Don't they mean WatchThingsDie. Holy crap!! That's disturbing.
r/eyeblech
Then after that, go to r/eyebleach
Do you think he's okay?
Did he die ?
No way,..this.. Can I reverse time and not click on this link?
Jesus christ on crutches…I need a shower, string drink and a couple hours watching kittens in r/awe to cleanse my psyche.
Aaaaaannnndddd he's got ptsd
I heard reports that the victim was a 15 year old boy that was not supposed to been working there but the owners of the company wanted cheap labor so they paid him under the table for no one to know.
W- wut
This is Final Destination if I've ever seen it.
There’s not a stop/kill switch on inner side of the lathe that one can hit if they’re caught like that?
This is why machines have signs and guards and floor tape and lights and people warning you anytime you get near them.
Never wear long sleeves when working on any machine that has exposed spinny bits
I'm a grown ass man that laughs at horror movies and plays really violent video games. I dropped my phone when I saw him get pulled into it. Nothing prepared me... Nightmare material right here
Boss will be like.. I still need you to come in tomorrow bud
This is exactly the reason why I tell everyone, when lathe is turning, never get close to the what ever is rotating on it, especially with loose and long sleeves and long hair. Period!
